This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I finished the game today (06/26) and cried a lot, not because of the story but because I waited six years for it and remembered how happy I was when I saw the trailer at E3. Well the first thing that frustrated me was the level designs. In the world of The Last of Us Naughty Dog showed us that unforeseen events happen, after all the world is in pieces, buildings fall, few resources but as a player, I felt that they happened a lot to increase the gameplay time in TLOU 2, for me this was very clear and they didn't need to extend the game like that. I would prefer to see how Joel got so different from what was shown in TLOU 1. To summarize a little, I felt that I did not know the new Joel and did not know what made him let his guard down for strangers who were close to Jackson. I agree with his death and I believe that it really gave meaning to part two, after all, he killed and destroyed several groups on his journey with Ellie, but he was not even cautious with those people he met (Abby's group) and it broke my experience. Moving forward, I felt very tired with the gameplay of the game, in many ways the gameplay from the first to the second is improved, the crawling part is very interesting and matches well with the style of the game, the player sees each object being placed in Ellie or Abby's backpack and despite being a small detail, they make the game look real. However, I spent hours going through infected, scars, and WLF without feeling the reasons to do that mainly in Abbie's gameplay, the island part of the scars was a deplorable example of that, and the part that Ellie went after Abby. Honestly, I didn't want either of them to die, despite having to make a big effort to like Abby's plot since he was depicted without emotion by the scenes and art direction. I really loved the fact that Ellie and Abby had mirrored sufferings, that would be much more interesting if the deaths of the loved ones were portrayed with impact by the writers. The Last of Us Part II has an identity crisis, tiresome gameplay for the game itself to make the player go from side to side to have more hours of gameplay. However, the plot itself is extremely dense and interesting, but for me, the way the situations were put together was confusing, with no impact when they should have and badly developed characters emotionally. Greetings and Salutations everyone! It's everyone's favorite doctor who can write prescriptions and plays what the kids call video games and today i'm going to review one of the best games I ever had a chance to get my grubby mitts on-The Last of Us 2!

First off, I would not rate this game a 10, id probably give it a 9.6-9.7 so very close but not quite there. Anywho, I want to say this
Greetings and Salutations everyone!

Anywho, I want to say this game starts off hot with a straight emotional gut punch that I definitely didn't expect. It gave me a dejected feeling like some of my all-time favorite TV shows and movies do. Was it something that I wanted to happen? Absolutely not, but by doing so I knew I was in for a hot-blooded, distinguished experience that has never struck such an emotional response during my 30 years of playing video games.

The other thing that made TLOU2 such a transcendent experience was its set pieces and whoa nelly where these amazing! While Telltale's season 1 of Walking Dead may rival TLOU2 in pulling on your heart strings, the set pieces in this game has no such rival....and its not even close. There were times while playing where my kisser fell to my gullet and I just pondered to myself, "Gollie, I will never forget that, that was awesome as PETE!" If there is perfection in a game, these set pieces were it, especially for us survival horror fans. Now I played my whole first playthrough on survivor so my experience may have been a bit different than other humans but there were moments where I would be running for my life, barely surviving and getting through by the skin of my taint with a pinch of luck thrown in there. What's is even more impressive is there are 6-7 of these experience. Most games can't produce one experience half as heart pounding in a trilogy of games so the fact that TLOU2 was able to do it and keep doing it throughout the game is mind-bogging and sensational.

Finally the last thing that made this game stand out above all other games was the fact that it could keep all the combat encounters unique. So many games eventually start to feel the same, after 5- 10-15 hours, even the really great ones, but TLOU2 always changed up elements to make the fights feel uncommon, I do wish they would have had more human vs human vs monster experiences. The few they had in the game were incredible because you never felt like you were safe plus you could turn monster(yes I know "monsters" have a real name that starts with a C but i'm to lazy to look it up) on your human enemies which was wildly satisfying!

TLOU2 also is a beautiful game, it's well written and acted and extremely detailed. Its also a very polished game on day 1 in 2020 considering the size of the game, I think I only had 1 glitch where I got stuck under a deck of a building. Also its load times are a 10/10, very little wait times between deaths on PsPro-take notes Star Wars Fallen Order. The story isn't quite as good as the first game and the ending wasn't very satisfying but overall this is one of the greatest games I ever played in my life! I love it!

Also I'd like to point out, this game seemed to receive over 150k zeros within the first 24 hours of the game being released and IMO those people rushed through the game and did not take in the gameplay or story and reflect on it so they could give it a subjective score. That is what had to happen because the only other thing that could have happened is all these people never even played the game and just gave it a 0 out of spite, fanboyism or bigotry and homophobia but i'm sure that is not the case because that would just be petty and insecure so I probably should not have even brought that up I apologize for even suggesting it. Bad Dr Lee!

Anywho, i'd suggest buying this game in a hot second, its not perfect but its like no game I ever played, fun as the dickens and way ahead of its time, or simply put...an all time classic!

We see Ellie going after Abby with a clear intention to kill her and avenge Joel.
Ellie is full of pain, guilt, anger, and a sense of terrible loss.

She goes for a killing spree without any second thoughts.
When she finally gets to face off with Abby she clearly is defeated but spared because of Lev’s intervention.

Ellie then tries to forget the whole story and let it go by moving in with Dina and JJ, hoping they will fill the void inside.
But she still suffers from panic attacks and keeps seeing Joel’s crushed face.

When Ellie goes after Abby for the second time and finally gets to her she witnesses how tortured and exhausted Abby and Lev are.
She tries to simply let them go, but sees Joel’s disfigured face again and decides to finish Abby off.

While strangling Abby she sees a flashback of alive Joel with a guitar and it stops her.
(She actually remembers that whole flashback we see at the end, where she says she will try to forgive Joel)

Ellie then says, “Just take him”, referring to Lev.
She realizes that Abby and Lev are like Joel and Ellie before and that the actual murder will not bring her peace, it will just leave another kid without a ‘parent figure’ and perpetuate the cycle of hate.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Doubtlessly the best game I wish never had been made.

The first installment in this series is one of my favourite games of all time and I've long lost count of how many times I've replayed it. Thus I was enraged when I suddenly had Joel beaten to death on my screen. Hell, he was like a father to me. An on screen father, but still. Anyhow, at that point I couldn't keep playing. My hands were shaking and I couldn't think straight. All I knew was that I hated the game and Naughty Dog. That I probably should brake the game disk in two and send fungal spores to Naughty Dog. But in the end I realized that I hated someone else even more. Abby. The b*tch who broke my heart.

So I decided that I might very well brake the game disk eventually and write a bad review. But not until I had my revenge on Abby and all of her loved ones.

For a few hours my hatred burned too hot for me to enjoy much of the game. Dina felt like a nuisance and all dialogue and interactions not directly related to my search for revenge felt pointless.

Then there came flashback. A memory of Ellie, Joel and some dinosaurs trying on hats. And that's when the grief truly hit me. A flood of tears dampened the fires of hatred and suddenly I could feel again. Not much, but enough to take in the world again.

A few hours later Dina turned out to be pregnant, and suddenly I felt a tiny bit of something for her too. Not that I liked her, really. But that I wanted to keep her safe. Protected. Just as Joel had kept "me" safe for the previous game.

Anyhow, from there on I really enjoyed the game. It made me realize how pointless hatred and revenge really is. Because in the end, you only give someone else reason to hate you as much as you hated that someone. And on it goes.

To sum things up this game was an emotional roller coaster. Terrible, dark and painful in ways I've never experienced in a game before. Or in any other media, in fact. So, yes, this is a great game. Even though I would have been happier if it never had been made.

I will not spoil anything here as the less you know the more you will enjoy it. What I will say is that the story is not afraid to take risks and is far better off for it.

But of course this isn't just about the story, it is about the gameplay and everything else in between, it is all top notch. It runs very smoothly, combat encounters are tense and memorable. The kills are brutal and you will often hear screams of agony and enemies calling out names, which adds to the realism and immersion.

It is also very violent, you can almost feel Ellies hatred when she kills people involved in a horrific incident early in the game, I love panning the camera around to Ellie when she is taking down an enemy from behind, you can clearly see the hatred etched on her face.

Some people may disagree with the direction the story takes and some of the actions taken by the lead characters, but I personally feel very pleased with how the story panned out.

Every single environment feels incredibly detailed, I was desperate to explore everything I possibly could, there are plenty of secrets to be found as well as quite a few Easter eggs. This game demands exploration and I genuinely felt saddened when I realise there was something that I missed.

I cannot recommend this game enough, you may have heard people complaining a lot about the story and yes it is divisive, but I think it is much better because of it.

I finished it 2 weeks ago and have not been able to stop thinking about it since.

    A must buy!!

It's likely due to the halo effect that most don't connect with the characters or their motives. The writers try a little too hard to force an agenda, yet there is an ugly side to humanity as well that we try to avoid and instinctively abhor. If we accept that what's shown in the game is possible of any of us, then the plot is easier to stomach.

The storytelling itself is acceptable. The writers do manage to help you bond with the characters. At the end I found myself sympathizing with both the protagonist Ellie and antagonist Abby, as well as their companions. If the game had a little more light, most would give it an 8. But the plot is dark. Really dark. The characters do redeem themselves at the end, but that is too little, too late.

Gameplay: Same as always. Not much difference compared to the first game. Combat is a little more fluid and exploration a little quicker, but basically the same. And by that I mean entertaining. It becomes repetitive, but the game isn't long enough to get you sick of it.

Graphics: Much improved over the first game. Textures, detail, design, are all a step above the originals. But that is to be expected. The previous game was a made for the PS3. Wouldn't say that it's amazing though. But there are some portions deserving of praise, such as the character facial expressions and how natural the character's movements are.

Voiceacting: Perfect, 10 out of 10. The plot might not be perfect, but the characters told the plot as best they could.

Overall, an acceptable plot, Good storytelling and fine everywhere else. 8 out of 10. If it were a little brighter, it'd have been a 10.

This is not a game for our snowflake generation, who likes to live in a fantasy of everything being happy and nice; expecting our heroes to do the right thing all the time.
Last of us 2 is a piece of art, and the goal of creating art is not to impress, but to express. Kuddos to Naughty dog for making the tough choices and showing us how flawed human beings really are.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. So, I finished The Last of Us Part II this morning and was left with emotions. I felt really sad for Ellie, ended up all alone, like Joel once was... I kinda agree with the ending, Ellie sparing Abby's life because Naughty Dog was going for an ending which didn't feature a useless nature of cyclic revenge and also if you think about it, Abby got what she deserved. Death wouldn't have been worth it for her. She learnt her lesson the hard way. Well I know we all would've loved it if she had killed Abby ofc lol but having this ending doesn't feel bad either. Ellie has always been a kind and strong character and they showed it. Like they say, "The best revenge is forgiveness" since that is a much harder thing to do. This sequel shows the reality of life, how the world has changed into this chaotic crap.. so a gesture of kindness can change certain things.
I always loved the message Naughty Dog portray with their games, like with Uncharted series and now this. Both Nathan and Ellie WANTED something but at the end, they got what they NEEDED. Inner Peace.
I was so happy to see the last scene of Joel and Ellie on the balcony, I kept thinking, Joel never got to talk to Ellie and she was being a **** to him but it all went away with that.
Moving on, the gameplay was so top notch, I never had this much fun playing a videogame. Naughty Dog has really hit it off with this game. Even the graphics. I recently got my platinum for Uncharted 4 and noticed so many little details that I missed on my first playthrough, it was such an amazing game and now with The Last of Us II--they have set up the bar even higher!

The presentation of the story is very pretentious and the gameplay isn't much better. People review bombing no way beat the game real people like us are just now beating the game now and it took a solid 2-3 day and nights straight to do so, I feel like my heart's strings have never been pulled harder and people jumping at spoilers to make judgements have no clue. This game gave me heavy resident evil vibes in the best way that the first never truly pulled off. The boss fight with Abby was straight out of RE:Nemesis and maybe Im the outlier here in that by my time was over with Abby I DID empathize with her SO strongly and honestly at the final fight let her kill Ellie just to see if there was a cannon ending for that. I really was not expecting to like Abby and from the first day in Seattle with her it felt like a slog but something about her, maybe the voice acting, maybe the ultra hard shielding around her heart that she had so strongly that made her so Hateable for many, but Relatable to me. We all love Ellie because we saw her grow up, and I know it was intentional writing, but Ellie pissed me off more than once and it's because I was really close to a few girls who acted just like that. Abby showed multiple times a certain restraint and maturity that Ellie couldn't understand untill she literally lost the ability to play her favorite tune. It was tragic. I truly was surprised myself that by the end I wanted them both to win, though I knew they had already both losses, so, so long ago. It was a masterpiece. And many people may never know it, they will judge this game off many other things, and the gameplay itself is superb in stealth and A.I.

Once again I wonder or possibly doubt it's even possible for them to continue this story again, especially with Ellie. But I have absolute faith and excitement for anything that may come. At the deepest expense of my emotional reserves. The HBO show that supposedly is happening could potentially turn this into something even greater. But as it stands, this is another turning point in video game narrative, and the the risks may have been obvious, (especially living in a post Game of Thrones world) I think we can all agree that the execution was nearly flawless and The Last of Us 2 has stuck it's landing.

The game tries too hard (unsuccessfully) to make us sympathize with a character that we absolutely cannot forgive. I think Naughty dog can fix the problem with the story very easily. First, get rid of the 10 hours of TORTURE with Abby and give the players a choice to kill or not kill Abby. That's it. OR at least show Abby being conflicted about killing Joel (cuz he saved that **** and get rid of the torture if you want the player to sympathize with her.
    Detailed Review :
I would firstly say that the graphics on this game are the best in any game ever made period 10/10. The game-play is 90% the same as the first game so its great 9.5/10. The cinematography was amazing as well as the background score 9/10. When you play the game you will be amazed by the how detailed, realistic and phenomenal the world looks. The attention to detail is amazing! the grass moves realistically when you move on it, as does the water, each NPC has a name which their friends call them when you kill them and soooo much more. Naughty Dog has always delivered in these areas.
The biggest flaw in the game is the story. The game present you with a despicable character (Abby) who tortures and kills Joel main protagonist while another spits on his corps. This does what its supposed to do, this builds up extreme anger in you towards Abby. So for you the only purpose of the game is to take revenge. You travel a long and fun journey to get to Abby. But when you do get to her, the game Forces you to play as this uninteresting character for more than TEN HOURS! during these 10 hours your only thought is to get it over with so you can finally kill Abby. But THEN the game MAKES YOU fight the only likable character left (Ellie). After you've beaten your favorite character and her pregnant girlfriend half to death and killing another friend of hers. You Finally get to play as Ellie for a short while and see that she has a good life and then the game makes you play as Abby AGAIN! Abby gets caught by some psychos, you leave to kill her for good this time, you catch her, you almost kill her and then...U don't. Because, you only wanted to kill tens of innocents for Joel's death but not the one that killed him. U get back home to find out that Ellie's girlfriend is gone as well. End of story.
