Technically speaking nothing to say, it's highly polished, tho I don't understand why they had to make the main characters control like mannequins, it is as if their upper body were stiff. I feel the game rushes it to conclude a chapter after merely 2 hours, where that shocking event takes place, and it pretty much leaves the player to accept the fact that this is now a total different game, at times even disconnected, with a twist of stories typical of movie productions but that translate poorly in the video game. It's basically structured in an annoying way that each session of the main quest is divided by a recollection of past events, where the gameplay gets very boring due to their interactive-fiction-esque nature. When it comes to the main quest, it's not always exciting either, for some of the looting-centric explorations and combat encounters are separated entirely...

Overall, the game has very interesting gameplay mechanics, but this strongest suit of it is wasted due to the pacing issues caused by the poor story itself, and its decision to introduce Abby as another playable character is so wrong, not only because story-wise, players cannot relate to her, but also because by the time of Abby's main quest kicks in, the game will have dragged far too long and hence there comes a strong sense of repetition.

    Level & quest design/pacing: 4/10

First off I know this game has been review bombed since the moment of release and this review is not a bomb in that sense. I'll start off by saying that I absolutely love the first game and how I could relate to the characters and really put myself in their shoes. This game is not that. The story feels almost forced, like they only made this game because they have to. Second in an absolutely beautiful world with outstanding visuals the world feels shallow. Let's take npc characters for starters, in most modern games if I'm in an area littered with npcs then they tend to interact with me or acknowledge that I exist in the world, but not this game. You never feel like you are part of the world unless it is a triggered event that is designed to push the story further. Also in the first game you really could relate to the characters and the decisions they make because it was always calculated and thought out and this time around those same people are just careless idiots. Also everything just happens to be too convenient like a cheap movie. Then we also take the lack of a multi player mode and how this game just lacks all the heart and soul that you found in the original Last of Us and I feel that this game does deserve all the hate that it is receiving. I honestly can not with a good conscience recommend that anyone who loved the first game play this game, which seems to just piss on all the hard work that the original team put into the game. Expand

If this was not a story driven game, it would be 10/10. The graphics, fluid animation, gameplay, music was incredible and what you come to expect from a Naughty Dog game. Howwever, given that this game is emphasized on story, it is an absolute disgrace. They should have ended it on Last of Us 1 and just done a new one with totally new and unrelated characters.

It is too linear and overly scripted. Save yourself the trouble and money and watch it off YouTube if you want the story. But the story, my goodness the story is cringy at every moment...

You spend tons of time killing dogs and fighting them because they are dangerous enemies in the game. Then there is a QTE that forces you to kill a specific dog. Then they hop to the other character and flashback to show you the dog you killed was so special. It really feels like the director is trying to scream at you "FEEL BAD NOW PUPPET!" There is no natural interactions to make you feel much of anything in this game it is all contrived and poorly presented fluff emotions. It feels like watching a garbage sitcom without the laugh track, without some external force trying to MAKE you feel a certain way it is boring and dull.

The whole Joel thing is pointless and just for the reaction because they wanted to try and force the player to more engage with the game emotionally. It not only does not work it undoes all the growth as a character that Joel did in the first game, while simultaneously having him go against his whole character and being WAY to trusting for no reason at all other than PLOT SAYS TO TRUST!

I will give them 1 point for mostly keeping the combat of the 7 year old game they put the skin of on this hot mess of a game.

If you want feel bad after playing a game, which points all time out how evil the world is AND especially you are. Play it.

I felt very cheated after playing.
    Elli kills dogs, Elli bad
    Abby saves animals, abby good!
    and so on.

After a while i came to the point that it isn't as good as all 10/10 are saying.
Just because production value is high doesn't make it great.
The story is the key here and its not good, in best case mediocre, long and just shocking for the sake of it.

Graphics are cool and gameplay is okay (nothing major new), sound is amazing.
But story makes it all glue together. Sadly for me it was not believable and meh....

Good game gameplay wise. If you like the game play of the first its much the same with a few new abilities. It's a step up graphically and has a lot more combat animations. The story wasn't as good as the original imo but it's still a pretty decent game. Nothing ground breaking just modest upgrades from the original. Game of year contender? I'll reserve judgement until cyberpunk 2977.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This is a strange review for me since part of me want to give this game a 10 and part of me want to give it a 0. It could have easely been a no brainer 10 for me and I even like many parts of it more than the first one.

First I want to just list some stuff that I absolutely love about this game (I played the game on the hardest Survival difficulty):

The character models and their facial expressions and how alive they look is the best I have ever seen in any game.

The AI behaviour of enemies is the best I have seen in any game (apart from it being a bit too unrealistic how they can't see you crawling around in grass, at least of the hardest difficulty I would have liked if that part was more realistic as how well they can see that.

The gore and how blood flows and even streams of the characters is the best and most realistic I have seen in any game.

The environments and sense of details is some of the best I have seen in any game and up on par with the sense of details in games like Red Dead Redemption 2.

The HUD options where you can tweak almost everything to be visible or not for the most immersive experience possible is amazing

Now as I said in the beginning this game would normally be a no brainer 10 out of 10 for me and I would even like it more than the first one. Apart from one thing.

What is that thing? Some might think the story and how the main character is changed and how she kills Joe etc. And no that is not it, I actually love that kind of thing as my favorite novels are those of Mccarthy where cruel and often completely "meaningless" things happens, as that is life and reality (which I am sure is also a big influence on the game)

I actually ended up liking Abby as a character and sympathised with her in wanting to kill Ellie and thought it was pure genius how they managed to show the other side and actually made me side with the "bad guy" and want to kill the main character heroine. I was so dissapointed and sad when it felt like they just built up for that moment and then reversed on it at the last moment in a very anticlimactic and completely out of character way. It did not make any sense at all.

However, even though I was sad and dissapointed in this and thought it was a huge waste of potential for all the build up to that point that would still not hurt the game enough for me to not want to give it a 10.

The main reason now why I can't put a 10 score on this is that I see how they put social agenda before the art of making this game as belivable and realistic as possible. There is games and movies with women that are beliviable and with intergrity, one example that feels quite close to the Last of Us is the movie Sicario. While the woman in that movie feels right for the movie, everything here in this regard just feels forced and unrealistic. They did not make every enemy squad in the game be ordered around by a womans commanding voice because that makes the most sense in the world they are building, but just because of reason: "strong womanz" and that is it. It is extemely transparent when someone makes a piece of art, like a novel or a movie, or a game and tries to make that world be as beliviable as possible (especially when it is as gritty and realistic as this one). It feels very insulting though and transparent when it is obvious that someone puts things like this in their work, not because of the best of the work and the integrity of the work, but just because of their personal agenda, like they just want to preach something at you and that is more important than the art. I can take strong women or gay and trans issues in a work of fiction, if that feels like it belong there and was put there because it should be there in its own right no matter the creators personal agendas, but in this case it is so constantly forced on you that it almost ends up as a comedy where you start to have a hard time to take anything else in the game seriously.

As I said, I even liked Abby as a character, even with her roid physique (she has back roid acne also so I assume she is on roids as that would actually make sense in the world where you would take drugs like that if you could to enhance your survival chance so I give this the benefit of the doubt here in that it does makes sense in the world and that she was not just built like this to further push uneralstic "strong womanz" agenda, which is sadly probably the only case if I am completely honest)

It actually speaks to how good the rest of the game is that I still don't want to give this 0. Normally I would never give something any more then 0 that I feel insult me in this way in thinking they can push things on me in this blatant and stupid way. But the game is so good outside all that stuff. It is just sad that we have to see so many great works of art get so tainted by all these agendas these days that does nothing but hurt the believability and integrity of the art that I can't just ignore it either.

I just feel that a zombie apocalypse is a really poor setting for these political messages. In an apocalypse people should be concerned with food, shelter and zombies... not "bigot sandwiches." In many ways it feels like a strange continuation. Also how buff Abby was very strange. That body type is very hard to attain and probably impossible to attain in an food scarce apocalypse.
