The mechanics and the graphics are awesome and made my full play through generally enjoyable but sadly the forced story narratives that treats their pre-existing characters like their dumb morons with no previous survival experience and don't get me started on the fact that you spend half the campaign as Abby... I'm mad that I had to wait 4 years just to end up disappointed with the sequel and I feel really bad for the people that had to wait 7 years. This sequel made my year even worse than it already is.

The Last of Us 2 is the best survival-horror game. The graphics and the atmosphere strike the imagination, different narrative moves and plot twists keep a player in suspense. It's not just a game, it's an experience, and I'm happy that I had a luck to play TLoU :)

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Great graphics, some nice new touches, some nerve gripping moments but ultimately all drowned out by a game that has put politics and a politic view of the director on gender equality and feminism centre stage at the sake of a video game. The game could of gone a thousand ways but ambushed its fans with a misleading trailer and the death of a major character two hours in for the political message. The heart breaking. Politics should take a back foot back seat role in video games. Let games be engaging emotionally but don't make them unbearable. Expand

I also cried and I really don’t cry but the stuff they put Ellie through made me so emotional and afflicted that I couldn’t hold it in especially in the end. There are some small things that I would love to change about the game but who doesn’t? All in all the game wasn’t what I waited for Sense middle school (I’m in high school) but I’m still gonna play it and try to love the good things about the experience like the graphics and small chapters with Joel Making it feel like I’m playing the first game again… Expand

This is not a worthy successor of the great "The Last of us". Graphics and Gameplay are almost the same, but the story is disappointing. There is no motivation to continue playing with Abbi.

its a good game in many ways.from gameplay to graphic, from level design to performance,it's story is rough,if you are the fan of the first game,it really required you to relate to the new casts.but if you do relate to them, this is a game you won't forget.

I don't understand the negative reviews. The story was intriguing and nuanced, mixing morality up to the point of not really knowing how to feel, but forcing you to feel regardless. The game-play and visuals are solid. Maybe I'm missing something, but I enjoyed the game thoroughly.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I held off buying this after all the review bombing, making the assumption their pure volume meant the game had significant issues. But I relented and went in, eyes open to all the potential issues. Some of the story/dialog was certainly choppy ... but if you're gonna run a marathon, you're gonna have a few dud strides. I dont think the story is the mess some claim it to be. Abby's story and arc is quite good, if anything Ellie comes off as the more murderous. As others have said, the story runs too long and is overwritten but that's nothing an editor couldnt have fixed. It's not an SJW story and Lev is a thoughtful character. We also see the love and care Naughty Dog put into the game in every single pixel. The execution is superb. For that ND should be immensely proud. With a few cuts, the story could have been very strong BUT here's the main issue for me. This is the Last of Us 3, not 2. If we had another instalment with Joel and Ellie adventuring together as 2 then revenge to tie up the trilogy, it would have given players more time to come to the grips with Joel's demise. In any case, it's a good game and takes the player on a decent journey and is worth the price of entry. Expand

Now that I've finally been able to play the game entirely, I will say I really enjoyed it. The game is not only creepy but also beautiful
and at times has some resident evil vibes going on.. the story line held up like the first game.

I do think people would enjoy it more or would want to play it, if they were more open minded to things that are different.

Overall the game is okay. It's probably the best looking console game on the market right now. Real-time game graphics and cinematic graphics are top-notch. Combat is very well polished and enemy AI is some of the best I've seen for stealth-type games. The last good thing I will say is that the acting is well done with the material they had to work with.

That's where all my good things end. I think Naughty Dog was successful in that I felt hate, and I felt what Ellie was feeling: to be emotionally exhausted. The problem? The whole experience was not worth it in the end. They risked a lot in this game, and in my optinion it did not pay off. i enjoyed Ellie at first, but they wrote her into a tragic trope. Always getting beat down, always making the wrong decisions, and generally just kind of acting dumb. Her story arc was narrow and felt lacking in the end. Despite all other achievements, story mattered most and it was not good or satisfying.

Our other new character Abby, is also not very interesting. She shows no remorse for her actions early in the story and generally seems to not care all that much about her friends. They try to make you like her, but it's all surface level. There's no real depth to her and I didn't feel like she was relatable. Near the end of the game, they have essentially morphed Abby into Joel 2.0 and it didn't feel earned.

I wanted to love this game, and I struggled for literally weeks after beating to try and find some redeeming quality to make myself like it. I couldn't. In the end i just questioned the point, and wish with all my heart that it would have been different.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. So, this game, this is a hard thing to critique, unlike another persons, I wont insult anyone in here. I will critique 3 important things I consider important for this game, soudntrack, gameplay and story-telling. So, soundtrack, this soundtrack was not as good as the first game's. We could not really feel Santaolalla a lot in this one, not even in the main menu, only in the ending credits, so the music was not that of a thing, 6/10 in soundtrack. Now gameplay, the same thing as in the first game (which I really liked), it was a really good mix : how you manage the weapons, the things you could do, really nice, and as I already explained this gameplay in the first game critique, I wont do it here, 8.5/10 on gameplay. And now, story-telling, so, first thing, Joel's death. It doesn't bother me the fact that they've killed him, what really bothers me is HOW they killed him. In the first game we saw that he didn't trust anyone, he almost didn't trust in Bill, his friend. But now he says his name, he says where he lives blah blah blah. Now, lets think, Abby's father gets shot, just ONE shot and Joel didn't even knew he was Abby's father or anything, and how does he have to pay for that? Nothing, only a lot of hits in the skull with a golf club, great. Then, the thing about Yara, that mission when we have to look for medicines for her, that was one hour totally lost since she ends up dying, so....you know, that part was just so the game could cost 60 dollars. Then the ending, you can say that the lesson of "Revenge is not good" was ok, but, this was not the game to include that, this game was about to make a cure to the Cordyceps, and now, nobody cares about the cure. If somehow the Lord gave me a second chance a that moment, I would prevent this game from being real. Thats all I can say, 61/100 Expand

THANK YOU for having the courage to make this story. This game has automatically become my favorite. I have laughed, cried, got angry, laughed, scared. It's been magical. Thank you, I will always carry these characters, and this story in my heart.

Worst: Close-minded people who are not able to enjoy this fantastic game.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Considering events of the first part I didn't like the idea of the plot - to make the main character dead at the beginning and make vengeance as plot of the whole game. Sometimes nonsense happens, especially at the final part of the game. There are also good ideas, for example, watching the story not only with the main character's eyes, with the antagonist's too. However, too much time was spent playing the second character - a half of the game. The dramatic constituent's strong, I cried several times and felt really bad for main characters. The gameplay is identical with first part's one, sadly almost no innovations. Moreover, it's extended with larger locations and dull looting. AI's stupid if medium difficulty's chosen. The whole graphics's incrediable, especially animations. A lot of time was spent on little things. Despite all these problems, I liked the game on the whole. Expand

The Last of Us Part II is the high point of the PlayStation 4. The plot is controversial, but the game is the incredibly addictive adventure of Ellie, from which it is impossible to pull away from the opening and to the very end.

Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.
