    Loved it! An emotional rollercoaster. The story felt like the right choice to make. What happened with Joel makes the first game even more special. I can't wait for a third game. Thank you Naughty dog for a great game, accessibility, and adding diversity to the gaming industry!

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Okay.. So I finished the game first time (didn't read spoilers) and I didn't know how to feel to be honest. It was a mixed emotions. At first I didn't like that Abby don't die but in the same time I know why Ellie spared her. I was sitting in my chair for few minutes trying to collect my thoughts and after that I immediately started the game all over again to try to understand a story even better. And I can tell you it is really good. People are raging becouse Joel gets killed, and I get that. I was mad too but if people just pull their heads from their ass they would understand why it had to be that way. You got mad becouse character that you loved dies and you are not trying to think even for a second why he died ? Hating a game just becouse someone that you like gets killed is seriously dumb. Joel is anti-hero. He is not good guy, but we played as him in the first game and we got his emotions connected with us. If im Joel I would do exact same thing. BUT, when you start thinking outside of the box, maybe you would understand the story. In the end while Ellie is drowing Abby, image of Joel pops up. (Later we see what was that conversation is all about). In that moment Ellie forgives Joel for what he is done but she understands what he is done and why Abby killed him. She forgives Joel and understands that she needs to forgive Abby too. When Ellie gets home, Dina already left and she is sitting with guitar trying to play but she is unable to play the only song that was reminding her of Joel becouse she lost her fingers. In all that hate and revenge she lost everything. She got what she was afraid the most. Ending up alone.

    On the other side Abby also loses everyting. She lost it becouse of rage and revenge that she had for Joel.

    This story is about revenge and forgiving. People are mad becouse Abby don't die, becouse they don't get what they wanted. They didn't get that happy ending where Ellie kills Abby and she gets to live happy till the rest of her life. Well no. That is what marks this game. That is why it is so different from other games and movies. Not every ending is a happy ending cliche. Neil Druckmann did something different and let me tell you that it takes balls to do stuff that he did with this game.

    Now im not saying that this game is perfect, it has it's bad sides too. Especially while playing as Abby. Most of the time it's not that interesting and with some parts on the end I was so bored that I wanted to finish it just so I can get back to Ellie and see what is gonna happen. Im also sad this game got that political part, just becouse they knew that it's gonna be played in the whole world. I think that games are not a place for that.

    Story is not that shocking like the first one, for example I could play first game as much as I want and every time I will get those same emotions like I am playing the first time. That is not the case with 2nd game.

    A lot of people are posting bad reviews just becouse they read spoilers, but you really need to play the game to understand it.

    About graphics and technical part, I think I don't need to say anything becouse it is extremley good that it left me speechless.

    Overall I was thinking between 8 and 9 but I will give it a 9. Hopefully all this discussion about the game helps Neil and Naughty Dog to learn from they mistakes and (hopefully sooner than this one) deliver us The Last of Us Part 3. They set very high level with the first game that is really hard to beat but I think that this game has a lot of potential of delivering us something different.

    Played the game, absolute masterpiece in every level. The gameplay is best i have played ever, graphics are incredible, and the story is touching, and leaves you empty and broken, and to think about it for days. I do also understand the hate, but everyone should play this game once, before judging it with 0. Thank you Naughty Dog, you did it again. And lastly i wanna give special note toPlayed the game, absolute masterpiece in every level. It takes them out of there comfort zone and they aren’t happy about it. Forced to face the reality that the end of the first game had very real consequences for other innocent people and loved ones, they’d rather ignore the fact that Joel’s choice was a rather selfish one that meets its reckoning on the end of another selfish choice. What happens in this game is no less justified than the choice Joel made at the end of the first, chew on that for a bit. If your looking for a feel good story, then it’s not for you. But if your looking for a story that looks deeper into the shades of gray that make up the human psyche, you won’t be disappointed.… Expand

    Don’t listen to the hive mind. Very good game with a gripping theme. The story structure can be offputting but the story is far more solid than anyone on this page gives it credit for.

    I've never in my life played a game that made me feel anger, hate, love, anxiety and sadness like The Last of Us Part II. This game makes you hate it at points, like not even wanting to pick up the controller again, this is the point though...it makes you feel so many things like no game, movie, book or tv show has before. Think about this, if it were different characters I believe all of this hate towards Naughty Dog wouldnt be there, it would be nothing but praise. Not only that before spouting off hate and review bombing he game once you are finished sit with it for a while. It takes time to digest everything that happened, no it doesn't leave you with a good feeling at the end but it isnt supposed to. It is supposed to make you contemplate what just happened and in the end it is about the cycle of violence and how violence begets violence. In this world there are no heroes and no villains, just people trying to survive and it gives you that perspective because in the end everyone thinks they are doing right unless they are just evil but all the characters in this game are just people none of which are evil and they all believe that they are in the right. So I beg you to just play the game and once finished let it sit with you before making your final conclusion on it, because in my opinion this game is phenomenal. The gameplay is awesome, the animations, the stealth, omg the enemies. When you are playing stealth and the WLF flank you and look for the people you killed it is intense. Anyway in my opinion most of these 0 ratings are people that didn't play the game or cant get past the fact that they killed Joel. "Joel is a **** person"(quote from Tess). And got himself in a heap of trouble when he murdered an entire militia group. PLAY THE GAME IT IS WORTH IT.     The first game is so strong because it's a heartwarming father-daughter experience in a world void of any decency. That concept we all loved is intentionally stripped from the second game right from the beginning, with the exception of a few infrequent flashbacks that don't really add much to the plot after Joel is treated like a side character.

That concept we all loved is intentionally stripped from the second game right from the beginning, with the exception of a few infrequent flashbacks that don't really add much to the plot after Joel is treated like a side character.

    Instead, TLOU2 focuses on a revenge narrative. It's about hate instead of love - a bold choice to go in the opposite direction. At times, we empathize with the characters and Ellie in particular, but ultimately it feels like senseless violence (which is the point) and we are meant to take an objective stance on it. There are also a few plot holes, instances of characters acting inconsistently compared to their behavior in the first game, character development occurring after the deaths of important people (in flashbacks), times when the player has to suspend disbelief, not too much additional lore, and a plethora of weird pacing issues. Some of it is very hard to get through because the characters we grew to love are treated like dirt and treat each other like dirt as well.

    That being said, the story is highly controversial and simply not for everyone. Personally, it was a deal-breaker for me and left me feeling miserable. So much missed the mark for me that it would take up another review entirely for me to explain. The plot is a mess.

    Additionally, at times the weight of each character's actions doesn't seem as real as in the first game because the survival element is a lot less prominent. Ellie can infinitely knife enemies or chop them to pieces. Abby is a complete badass with more strength than any of the male characters and an army on her side, although it's a bit weird how she can't find a knife for stealth too. The first game was just Joel and a kid (Ellie) versus the world. However, during certain segments while fighting the infected, there are some tough moments. It's a lot of fun playing as Abby in particular because her segments are so intense and varied.

    The gameplay, animation, sound, music, voice acting, and graphics are all phenomenal. There are new crafting options, controls, and now there's vertical level design. Unfortunately, there's an overabundance of cutscenes and walking/horse-riding as opposed to actual combat to the extent that a lot of it feels like filler. The game doesn't even pick up until roughly 30 minutes in. I think the developers forgot they were making TLOU2 at times and not Uncharted 5 - not that Uncharted is bad by any means, but it's clearly a different series. And besides certain intense areas when you play as Abby, most of the game's chapters feel like random progression, whereas in the first game every segment was engaging and unique. Not too much is particularly memorable and the game overall is far too long for its own good.

    One thing people wished was rumor (according to the leaks), but is unfortunately true, is the heavy implementation of progressive politics. I don't think most players care if a character is a lesbian, for example, but why make it central to her entire identity and the plot? On top of that, Abby is comically muscular, two other women are bisexual (one not shown in-game), there is a homosexual WLF enemy, and there's another new character who is a trans child. I found myself asking, "Is this a game about fungus zombies or sexual identity, feminism, and gender?" The LGBT community is so small, and yet in this universe, there's a massive over-representation of LGBT characters in a post-apocalyptic world, all converging in Seattle. It just doesn't make sense for a series that's known for its realism.

    Still, even despite its flaws, this is an okay game with a lot of new content to offer compared to the first. It's far better without making the comparison. These are two entirely different games.    … Expand

    This game is really good, it have a 10/10 gameplay and is beautiful to see, plus it has a great story 8,5/10, I played the first teh last of us and I was such a good game, and I love how they created not a Giant cliche, but created a new story and to compensate the fact that the game wasn't like the first one they added the flashback, this game is soo good, but you have to play with an open mind.

The game misses the most important thing that makes a TLOU game a TLOU game: STORYTELLING The game still has amazing dialogues, but that means nothing when the whole narrative is filled with plot holes. On top of that there is almost 0 innovation in TLOU2 gameplay whise, it’s basically the same game with a visual upgrade and a plot downgrade + it pushes several nonsensical agendas which don’t belong in a post apocalyptic game and for the most part not in any game period.

    The only reason I am not giving this game a 0/10 is the amazing work the art and sound teams did and I don’t want to disrespect their and ONLY their work. Overall the game is a 4/10 because of that for me.

    Edit: I‘ve changed my mind. Because they are blacklisting Metacritic to block bad reviews it’s a 0/10 for me. They even removed some negative reviews. Corruption at its finest.    … Expand

    I'm just going to say that everything instead for the story of the game is good the story is really bad and is frustrating because you can see what they tried to do with it but they developed the ideas in a horrific way and this is the last of us so you mainly play the game because of the story so I would say it's not worth buying

    Com exceção da história que, apesar de boa não chega aos pés do primeiro jogo, a gameplay, a quantidade de coisas que podemos fazer dentro do jogo e personalização de armas enriquecem bastante o jogo e trás uma experiência incrível. Fora os gráficos que são maravilhosos, claro que na MINHA opinião esse jogo é muito bom.

Сейчас все больше и больше боряться меньшинства не традиционной ориентации за свои права, и вместо того чтобы поставить на аватарку флаг ЛГБТ (как будто это чем то помогает утвердить права людей не традиционной ориентации), они выкатывают игру со всеми этими актуальными проблемами. Да, в некоторых местах выглядит нелепо , но на есть свои причины.
    Смерть одного из героев (не будем спойлерить), как по мне, специально сделали очень не благородной и совершенно тупой. И вместо того, чтобы люди, которые прониклись персонажем из прошлой части, имели цель идти мстить за него - они просто начали осуждать игру, типу тупая дискриминация прав, как же так, могли бы по-епичнее сделать смерть ***.
    А концовка игры это отдельная тема, ведь именно она раскрывает главного персонажа игры (Элли) не как машину мести, а как человека, прошедшего через многие трудности.
    Да, моя поэма не столь грамотная и четко выражена, но вы должны были уловить суть. Наконец скажу, что игра ЗАСЛУЖИВАЕТ ВНИМАНИЕ не только поклонникам серии игры, но и как новым игрокам.    … Expand

    If this game were not associated with an existing title, I would not have bought and played it.

    Story fell flat. Most people don't want to play a revenge themed game where they have to play the character who is responsible for the inciting event.

    It's highly unlikely that I'll be investing any more time or money into this franchise.

I literally counted the days until it came out, and when it came out, I immediately went to buy it. What can be distinguished from the advantages: excellent graphics, animation, plot, combat system, duration of the game. What can be distinguished from disadvantages: lies about the plot. From the trailers, it was assumed that Dina would be killed and Ellie would avenge her, and Joel would keep us company for the entire game, but it's exactly the opposite, Yes, Joel is, of course, but he's mostly in the memories. And the gameplay for the second character-Abby is given more time than necessary. Of course, I liked this character, but I expected that most of the time we will play for Ellie, and in the end 50-50. И так начнем, игра безусловно превосходная, а история сложна восприятием для тех, у кого герои четко делятся на хороших и плохих. Для всех остальных игра подарит массу эмоций. Ведь тема ненависти раскрыта как никогда хорошо.     I say some version of this in every Naughty Dog review I give, but, STILL, the "adventure" of this action-adventure is still just a tarted-up Crash Bandicoot! Bigger straight paths and more control in the animal riding segments but mostly still true! I think it may actually be a step back, there is less Ellie on a water puzzles but compared to Uncharted 4 the environments seem less story motavated.

    Speaking of story, holy **** from the macro to the micro, shiny as it may look this really is a dog turd. The laughable way it keeps shouting out random names while you kill the same 12 character models over and over again. The super simple and basic revenge story that does nothing new. The horrible pacing that added TEN HOURS instead of just ending the game!

    About halfway in I started to get bored of the gameplay loop and then a few hours later there is a huge change but it only made me go from bored to annoyed to really hating this game.

    The gameplay stays the same throughout but the ludo-narrative dissonance does not so much "take a dive" as Wile-E-Coyote falls down a canyon. The game makes the gore and guns and throat-slitting fun and sound satisfyingly juicy but also wants to try to critique violence? Everything just feels like it is working against everything else and what a mess!

    The gross way they have a trans character and lazily making their entire arc only about being trans. If the rest of the characters were not this shallow I would have been more offended, but luckily(?) everyone is lazily written.

    Ellie gets the worst of it. When you play the first one, narratively you think about how they will deal with the fallout of "Joel's Choice" and how interesting it would be to play a whole game as Ellie. WELL... what you get is another Joel in an Ellie skin and about a minute of a sequel. Instead a very basic hunt these people who wronged you that could have taken Ellie out entirely and only have to change 2 flashbacks!

They said you cant base a game on spoilers but in this case you absolutely can the actual game is even more disappointing than the spoilers could have revealed.

    Absolutely fantastic - best game I’ve ever played. The story (whilst it not being what we wanted) is still fantastic and the gameplay is astonishing.

    Although anger and depression will be there while you are playing, definitely a game worth recalling thousands of time. In the end you will find out that you will get a different or deeper understanding of the game as you think through it again and again.

    The game is visually impressive and the gameplay while not a big step up is a bit better than the previous game, but the story disappoints when it matters most and drags the entire experience down. This could’ve easily been a great game worthy of a 8 or 9, but mind boggling decisions regarding the plot left me unsatisfied when the credits rolled.

Like the first game, it is violent, gritty, intense, heavy on story, and a lot of fun to play. Also, for what it's worth, I didn't encounter a single crash, glitch, or bug.

    But, as this is about Joel and Ellie we're talking about, the story is a critical aspect of the experience.

    The extremely polarized user reviews is understandable. If somebody hasn't played the first game or been dragged into the depths of the hype they might simply and objectively enjoy the game. However, for those who have spent the last 7 years nurturing deep emotional connections to the characters and theorizing how the story should play out, this game is going to have some tough pills to swallow.

    First, the story and character development of this game is very different thematically. While both games are set in dark times with characters making morally gray choices, there are still overriding "warm fuzzy" tones in the first game. The development of a father-daughter like relationship, the building trust between two trauma-hardened characters, and the drivers for their journey are ultimately designed to evoke positive emotional responses. But in Part 2 the theme is much more dark. The story and character progression build on hate and vengeance. The game is designed to make the player uncomfortable and even sad and angry.

    Second, the lengths at which the game goes to evoke these emotional responses extends beyond the story and character progression alone and into the sequencing and game play. For example, the game forces the player out of the context of their current progression to play from the perspective of a different character--one the player is not supposed to like very much. I generally hate this tactic (I want to throw the controller every time an Assassin's Creed game sends me into the Animus). But I saw it coming during my play through and I went in with an open mind. And, as designed, I did hate it at first. But I quickly adapted to viewing the world and events through another lens. I ended up enjoying getting more depth to the otherwise peripheral characters, playing with a different style using alternative gear and upgrade paths, and seeing additional post-apocalyptic social perspectives.

    But again, the theme of hate and vengeance runs throughout the game, and this additional depth and perspective only adds to the loathe/love dichotomy of the characters and their circumstances. Or, as Ellie might say, "this is F**ked".    … Expand

Все эти ощущения можно прочувствовать только на самой последней сложности. Если снизить её хотя бы до предпоследней, атмосфера выживания сразу пропадает.

    4) Графика в игре заставляет игрока восхищаться каждой мелочью, продуманной в игре. Начиная с покрытой снегом ветки, которую главная героиня задевает плечом, заканчивая красивейшими общими планами останков человеческой цивилизации, над которыми природа взяла верх. Отсюда можно сделать вывод, что атмосфера The last os Us 2 ни оставляет игроку ни единого шанса, кроме как проникнуться и наслаждаться красотами этого опасного, но всё таки по своему прекрасного мира.

    5) Многие оставляют негативные отзывы основывая их на том, что в игре якобы очень активно продвигается тема сексуальных меньшинств.
    Меньше одного процента ИЗ ВСЕЙ ИГРЫ отводится ЛГБТ повестке. Мне кажется, люди, которые основывают на этом негативные отзывы, вообще не играли в The last of Us 2.

    6) Музыкальная составляющая просто великолепна. Каждый эмбиент, каждая песня, исполненная главными героями, не оставляет игрока равнодушным и заставляет испытывать весь спектр положительных эмоций. Музыка в титрах заслуживает отдельного внимания

    7) Добавленные механики, открывают новые возможности. Казалось бы, обычная способность ложиться, но то как она реализована в купе с высокой травой, даёт в результате великолепный стелс. Механика игры на гитаре показала, что сенсорную панель геймпада можно использовать в абсолютно неожиданных случаях.

    Obra impressionante e inovadora. Me trouxe montes e montes de sentimentos, não importando meu contentamento ou descontentamento. Trouxe uma história vibrante, significativa e ousada. É compreensível todo o Hate que a obra está sofrendo. Mas não há problemas, isso sempre acontece com tudo que está a frente do seu tempo. Excelente!

I would love to see where they take part 3 when and if they day comes. I am and always will be a huge fan.     In all honesty, the strength of the plot lies within the player's ability to empathize with the game's characters, and if you as a player decides to go into this without an open mind, then the experience will be nothing but shallow and it will be extremely unrewarding. It's okay not to like the game, but to try not to understand it first and bash it upon completion is not what the game intends for you as a player, and is certainly not the right way to approach it.

    My only problem with the game is it's uneven pacing during some parts, but that's mostly due to my play style, and how I took my time exploring every little corner.

    Overall, The Last of Us Part II is a worthy sequel to its predecessor in my eyes, and is extremely ambitious in its narrative department, albeit a few pacing issues.    … Expand

    Brilliant yet harrowing, it stands above the original in it's much deeper gameplay. It broke my heart with it's story but I couldn't stop playing. I've played through it twice and have enjoyed every second. I just have to wonder if there will be a part 3...

I was hesitant to purchase this game after reading the leaked spoilers, however “The Last of Us” is my favorite game of all time therefore I owe it to Naughty Dog to purchase Part 2. I will not go in depth since A lot of the things I want to talk about, a lot of reviews have already addressed them. I think I’m in the minority when I say that playing as Abby is really fun. I love her character model because it’s intimidating and she’s honestly a bad@$$! I don’t like the role she plays (NOT AT ALL) but I think it’s Naughty Dogs fault for making a majority of the player community dislike her. What I’m trying to say is that It sucked playing as the person that killed your favorite video game character of all time BUT I didn’t really care much for the story after that event so I tried to close that out and just have fun with the gameplay. The Last of Us Part 2 was a terrible story compared to the first game which is why I’m giving it such a low score. These games are pretty much defined by how good the story is and if the story is horrible then the game will pretty much be horrible as well. To finish it off I was extremely disappointed how this game turned out and really let down knowing that this is the sequel to my favorite game ever. It looks amazing but is empty on the inside and is torture to play. I hope it was worth it... will not be touching anything from Naughty Dawg or Neil Druckmann ever again.     Please don’t believe all the negative reviews from (I have no idea why) “disappointed” players. This game is the best thing I have EVER played since Part One. This game alone is reason enough to own a Playstation! Pure perfection.

    So the game went like this:
    - hmm you thought joel was a great character huh, well imma have him die a slow and painful death to start things off.
    - oh and you thought the relationship between joel and ellie that the entirety of the first game was building is amazing and special, well guess what not anymore. its riddled with conflicts now.
    - will they resolve them conflicts? wait till the end to see.
    - oh so now you hate abby huh, well lemme try to change your mind with a 15 hour gameplay with abby.
    - oh so you haven't changed your mind and still want her dead, well boo hoo hoo she ain't gonna die b**ch
    - well at least did ellie and joel resolve their conflicts, before he died? well yeah, but actually no.
    - oh, btw remember ellie's worst fear was ending up alone, well you know how it goes by now.    … Expand

    The Last of Us Part II is the high point of the PlayStation 4. The plot is controversial, but the game is the incredibly addictive adventure of Ellie, from which it is impossible to pull away from the opening and to the very end.

    Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.
