    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Just finished the game now and I just have to say that I loved it.

    Technical:
    This game is beautiful in every sense. The models, textures, sound and animations are all masterfully done. The character animation in particular, how you character interacts with the world and the fluid blending of animations together the art team here deserves so much praise. It is the little things when it comes to this all of the attention to detail in the small secondary animations, Ellie's bag gently swaying as she runs along, putting her hand on a wall when she is next to it, using her left hand to loot when the right is busy interacting with something else. It's these small touches that just ground the character in the environment and just make things look so much more natural. The top notch character modeling, texturing and primary animation definitely helps too. The mo-capped cutscenes are out of this world as well so natural and life like especially the facial animation which is so easy to get wrong, I think I'd need far more than 5000 characters to truly convey how amazingly this game is textured, modeled and animated.

    Now lets just talk about enemies for a bit. Your enemies aren't just enemies they have some humanity about them which is done through masterful use of sound and animation. From them calling out their friends name in horror after you've shot them, to your enemy begging you not to kill them when you grab them from behind to the struggling and as the hope and life fades from their beautifully animated faces. I played this game killing as few humans as possible because I just felt awful every time I had to do it and no other game has ever made me feel like that about rank and file enemies.

    This game feels visceral, gritty and uncomfortable to play (in the best way possible) and everything feeds into that from the sound design, the animations and the gameplay.

    There were some definite sections that felt a little drawn out and there were some points I wanted another way to deal with problems other than violence. One section jumps to mind where I encountered some WLF deserters in a hotel and one of them tried to attack me thinking I was sent to kill them so I took one of them hostage and stood there almost waiting for Ellie to say something but after a while just realized that there was no way to end this encounter without just murdering them all. Which I get it, it's not that kind of game but still it just kind of felt like the game was limiting me in the way I wanted to solve the situation. But for the most part your actions in game make sense with the way the narrative is being told.

    No game is perfect (hence the 9) and there are going to be poor moments and better ones but I assure you that the good moments and the moments where everything just makes sense far outweigh the bad ones.

    Story:
    There are a lot of complaints here about story and I just have to say I don't get them. At the start you're presented with a villain and a classic revenge story. As the story goes on you see the lengths that Ellie goes through in a series of sequences that left me feeling genuinely uncomfortable at some points. Then it all gets flipped on it's head and as you play as Abby you grow attached to the characters you just spent the first 10+ hours doing anything in your power to kill. You see the WLF as a community trying to survive rather than the brutal revolutionary group that you were facing as Ellie. Then when you see the two of them facing off I actually didn't want to see harm come to either of them.

    The game almost tells two stories back to back, the revenge story in the present day and Ellie and Joels relationship as Ellie grows up after the last game through flashbacks. These two stories seem to mimic each other as the game goes on with the confrontation about the events of the first game coming at the height of the revenge story, both stories are at the point of "There can be no forgiveness" both for Abby and for Joel. We see the toll that revenge takes on Ellie as the game goes on, both physically and mentally, she is beaten, cut, bruised and bitten but keeps going, she loses people dear to her and keeps going and when she finally gets out and gets the farm life that her and Dina dreamed of she is still consumed with the need for revenge and just goes back. Then in the final scenes we see her save Abby from the Rattlers and then try one more time to get her revenge but gets a flashback to the night where she told Joel she will try to forgive him and similarly she lets Abby go and seems to try and forgive her too.

    This is a story about revenge the lengths someone will go to for it, the damage it will do and how revenge begets more revenge begets more revenge. But most importantly it's a story about forgiveness and how it can be the hardest thing of all to do. Everyone has their own side of the story there is no good here, no evil, just different perspectives    … Expand

    Its a Must-Buy for every PS4 owner!

    It was WAAAAAY BETTER than the first one.
    It defies the concept of revange we are used to (glorified by HOLLYWOOD movies) and challenges the the player by gameplay.

    Greatest game I have ever played. Truly takes your breath away how beautiful the characters, worlds and story is. The story I felt was a great continuation of the first and I hope they continue with a 3rd game. Don't be deterred by the juvenile review bombers on here anyone who has played the game loved it.

I'll admit the gameplay was cool and with that i mean the looting, fighting and climbing. but story was not to good in my opinion. the biggest reason being cause they killed Joel like i grew up playing the last of us 1(i'm talking 12 to 17 years old) which made me create a relationship with Joel and Ellie especially Joel. And to then see him die the way he did just broke my heart and then they expected me to like the character who killed him? hell no like i really don't care about Abby or her dad and i fully understand why Joel did what he did to save his 2nd daughter figure since he had already lost his actual daughter. If you are gonna kill a main character do it the right way and a few examples of games who did that are Red Dead Redemption 2(Arthur) and Telltale The Walking Dead(Lee). I also feel like if we are gonna kill hundreds of people and then just let Joel's actual killer go it's just stupid… Expand

I felt the new character did not do much good for the plot and poked out like a sore thumb. The new direction this game took was, to put it mildly, not my cup of tea, and after all I went through, the ending killed my love for the franchise. Блин, тут понятие «игра» носит другой характер: в игры играют дети, а в эту... взрослые люди с уже состоявшимся мнением, личным опытом и своими взглядами на жизнь в целом. Некоторые сцены, хотя нет, целые главы, настолько круто срежиссированы, что в какой-то момент мне пришла в голову мысль: «Хочу оказаться там, на её месте, и плевать, что вокруг разрушенный мир, а за каждым углом поджидает смертельная опасность»!
    Я полностью согласен со всеми поступками главных героев (игровых персонажей) и их спутников. Будь я на их месте, то поступил бы точно так же, не колеблясь ни секунды!

    Отдельно хочу сказать про звук: несколько раз брал приставку в студию и устраивал там ночные игровые сессии. Так вот, мои акустические системы позволяют выставить так называемую «референсную громкость». При её выставлении я ориентировался на человеческую речь: в настройках игры есть параметр «динамический диапазон» – естественно, в положении «максимальный». И вот когда я первый раз наткнулся на группу враждебных солдат, тут-то и открылись все прелести перестрелок в игре (которые и без этого шикарны)!

    – Выстрел из дробовика в заброшенном железном гараже отозвался жалящим звоном в ушах, чуть геймпад не выронил из рук, но времени на растерянность нет: теперь все противники знали моё местоположение.
    Поставив взрывную ловушку, я ринулся в ближайшие заросли и замер: противник уже в паре метров от меня, ещё один шаг и происходит взрыв!!!
    Опять звон в ушах, уже не только у меня, но и у моей героини!
    Ааа, адреналин зашкаливает: и страшно, и жутко, но при этом не покидает чувство восхищения от происходящего. Люди, чьих друзей я только что убил, орут, надрывая голос от скорби и злости, выкрикивая имена павших товарищей, и с ещё большей яростью преследуют меня!
    Геймпад мокрый, руки дрожат, секундная паника, смерть...

    Следом экран с советами и кнопка продолжить.

    П.С. В дальнейшем я семь раз думал прежде чем выстрелить и обнаружить себя!

    П.П.С. Играл на обычной версии PS4. Обязательно пройду игру вновь на консоли следующего поколения!    … Expand

If you want some Tarantino revenge tale, you'll be disappointed. Even though I didn't love it as much as the first one, I can't stop thinking about this one, and I really hope the artists behind this are not discouraged by the bad reviews - we need more of bold, brave stories like this that don't play safe and pander to audiences just to make money.    … Expand

Visually stunning, fluid gameplay, visceral, and surreal. I was 100% engrossed through the first half. The second half.... How does that meme go? " you had us in the first half" lol. Honestly though, this hurts writing this. I loved the first game. All through the 1st half of this game, I was completely engrossed. Such disappointments in ,story decisions and executions. Abby is a terrible character. We're we supposed to,feel,something for,her? All,I felt was let down. I get what they were going for...and it didn't work. For you it might. I would recommend it. If you are new to the series. Try it out. If you are, or were invested in the first one. Be warned. Disappointing man. Damn… Expand

    I finally finished playing last of us 2. The story is pretty good although it was poorly written and didn't have an interesting narrative compared to previous naughty dog games. Like I said this game has a good story which touches upon some good and complex themes, but only poorly written with less interesting narrative. I respect them for trying something completly different instead of making and following the huge of success of the first game. People are hating on this game for only a single plot element and should ACTUALLY PLAY THE GAME. Overall, this isn't near to the perfection of the first last of us, but its still a good game. I mean not everyone can give out a perfect game each time and naughty dog is no exception and there will be times where they can disapoint which is ok. I still felt slightly disappointed, since I have been hyped for this game back in psx 2016 but I'm sure they won't disapoint with their next game. My rating for last of us 2 is an 8/10. This rating mght seem good, but for me naughty dog's range is atleast a 9 to truly deliver. Moving to the technical aspects, the ghraphics are stunning and beautiful and its easily the best and realistic looking game I have ever played. The acting and facial animations are exellent and the sound designing is so realistic and great. The gameplay is far more improved in this game, there are many new mechanics that were added which adds another layer to the gameplay. I really enjoyed the gameplay, it was fluid, realistic and really fun. This time the AI is much more improved making the encounters more challenging and you have to be more stategic to approach them. There are so many small details that are just crazy to see. In brief, its a technical masterpiece and they put **** ton of effort in making this game and few reports say this game costed them at least 100 million to make. They pushed the boundaries of gaming and I can't imagine how their games will look on PS5.… Expand

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. A heartbreaking, soul-crushing disappointment. That is the most appropriate way for me to sum up my experience playing The Last of Us Part II. Unlike probably many of the day one 0/10 scores here I actually waited to finish the entire game before commenting. Now having finished the final moments, I can honestly say I can't recall a more disappointing sequel to such a beloved game as this. The original Last of Us is one of my favorite games of the 25+ years I've been gaming. It's a masterpiece of storytelling, realistic character development, (for the time) stellar graphics and tense, engaging gameplay. I don't know how many times I've played it through on PS3 and the PS4 remaster. This is all to say these opinions are coming from someone who absolutely loved the world and characters ND created.

    I cannot therefore reconcile how the writers and director of TLOU2 could have possibly thought that the direction they took with this appalling, grotesque sequel would appeal to anyone who had grown to love the characters they spent so much time with in the original. In the opening hours they have a completely new and honestly mostly unlikable character brutally murder the main character of the original while the other main character watches in horror screaming for his life. Then another new character spits on his dead body. It's symbolic in a way as that's exactly what ND has done to the fans here, spit in their faces.

    All of that I can actually abide. The cherry on top of this slap in the face is forcing players to play as the character who just murdered the character ND manipulated fans to believe they would be playing as (or along side) via misleading advertising for over 10 hours! And in that time you are forced to actually fight against the other beloved main character as some sort of absurd boss fight. I lost count how many times I rolled my eyes at the heavy handed on the nose absurdity of this 2nd act. We get it, all humans are monsters in this new world and evil vs good are just matters of perspective. These are not brilliant or original concepts and the way ND approached them in the game was so amateurish it seemed like they either just didn't give a damn and it was pure laziness or they were actually intentionally trying to upset and disappoint fans. I know that seems insane but I kept thinking that while playing the game, does ND actually just hate their fans and want to anger them? It seemed like the only explanation outside of just the world greatest miscalculation on how the story would be perceived. Coming from ND who set the bar so insanely high with the quality narrative of the original, it's just inexplicable how bad the writing, characters and narrative were in this.

    Graphics: 9/10 - Game is gorgeous, up there with some of the best PS4 titles. Perhaps not the systems best but certainly in contention with the likes of RDR2 and Death Stranding.

    Gameplay 7/10 - Solid but largely familiar with very little innovation over the past 7 years

    Story 2/10 - An utter failure

    Overall - 4/10 As a Last of Us game story must be weighted significantly higher since this is the main reason many fans played the original and this sequel. ND missed the mark so completely and thoroughly with this horrible sequel. It's hard to overstate my disappointment as a huge fan of the superb and infinitely superior original. Would not under any circumstances recommend that a fan of the first game buy this, but if you're new to the series, don't care to play the better original and don't care about the terrible story then go for it because the graphics are gorgeous and the gameplay is fun. It is not the same vibe as the first one, but I think that's what Naughty Dog wanted to do & they delivered. Obviously, killing off one of the main character is a major risk, but he's still in the game and you see a lot of him anyway. I wasn't disappointed and don't understand the hate. It's a video game, not real life, you shouldn't be butthurt about fiction. The only issue for me was the flashbacks. I think the game would've been even more solid if the order was different (like getting to play Abby 1st so we don't feel bummed out about playing her for like 12h straight after playing Ellie). But for the rest? This game is a masterpiece. 10/10 cause it's my favorite 2 games! (TLOU & TLOU part2)… Expand

In my case, when I finished the game I didn't even know if I liked it or not. It was so confusing and it led to lots of mixed opinions in my head that I had no "only thought" about it.

    Technically it is a masterpiece. The graphics are mindblowing and the gameplay is on point. The combat is probably the most fun I had ever had and it all blends together nicely. The acting is award-winning, as well as the soundtrack by Santaolalla and all the sound-making in general. The environments, as all of Naughty Dog's games, are just breathtaking. The bad thing that I and lots of people found about this game is the story. I personally loved TLOU and its narrative, as it became one of the games that most impacted me and has definitively changed my way of seeing things. I have completed it 3 times, the last one in the most difficult setting. That is why I wanted TLOU 2 to be a continuation of Ellie's and Joel's story because I wanted to be back at that world again. The problem for me is that it doesn't really happen, and half or more of the game is filled with new characters with different stories in different places. Some people may like this and its why I said that this game is an expert in leaving different opinions that are all equally valid. For me, I wanted a story based on Joel and Ellie again, but maybe others wanted a different narrative with different characters, which I respect the same way I respect my likings.

    In general, I don't think at all the game deserves the hate it got at its release, because it is a really good game. And I respect the fact that they risked a lot to make something different and not just go to the safe option and make a game that everyone will like so they can get guaranteed success. They really tried to make something different and not just give the player what he wants and that's something all of us should consider before leaving a negative review.

    In conclusion, I think it is a good game and it is not something you will regret buying, although you will have to keep in mind the fact that there may be aspects or parts of the game which you might not like.    … Expand

    Don't expect to be satisfied by this experience, it's not about that. To really feel this game you'll need to treat it as a playthrough movie, which will not be flattering AT ALL, but will be an amazing experience in the end.

Finishing the game was so hard because of how pointless it got. Characters that were not interesting had their own 6 hours of gameplay and once the game was over, I couldn’t make myself to replay it again for the trophies. On the other hand, motion capture was on point, voice acting on point, graphics were stunning, but unfortunately they didn’t save the story. I’ve never had to question my actions in a video game before until I’ve played this game, and that on its own, is a remarkable accomplishment. Like Troy Baker said: “fans need to come into this game with an open mind.” He was right because this game will not sit right with some fans because of some narrative choices, but just because you don’t like where the story goes, it doesn’t mean that the story doesn’t work.     They could have been easily finish this game last year by ending it on Seattle Day 3 with Ellie killing Abby...a normal revenge story. Joel death is cruel, it fill us with the same feelings Ellie had, it is not a Disney story, Joel was a bad person but we get to loved him on the first game but eventually his past caught up with him.

    Abby killed Joel and Ellie wants to revenge his death...HOWEVER....Naughty Dog did the extraordinary...they made you played with Joel's killer, we all hate it....but as the days pass and we get to know this character, her back story and her reasons, we understand how valid her reasons were, maybe more than Ellie's and how determine she was in focusing on Joel only and nobody else.

    The creators want us to doubt who was right or wrong, make us discover the terrible consequences of vengeance in more than one occasion, Abby lost all of her friends, Ellie lost her family, her sanity, Jesse, Tommy's health and even the one thing that could connect her to Joel (her ability to play the guitar).

    People who said Joel was not honored, obviously did not understand the importance of the Flashbacks, the Birthday was amazing, the guitar scene as well, and the ending when Ellie "forgives" Joel the night before his death just an extraordinary touch in letting us know that having anger or being upset with love's ones is not worth it since you never know what could happens next.

    Finally the end is just perfect, Ellie honored Joel's life by forgiving Abby and allowing her to become the protector for Lev the way Joel was for Ellie. The scene with Joel smiling as Ellie was killing Abby was key in understanding that it was enough. I will only add a simple question...."Why Abby? - and let Abby explain Ellie that Joel killed her dad who was the doctor" That will be the perfect closure.    … Expand

It starts out solid, and remains so throughout it's first chapter, but following that it wanes in quality and becomes unsatisfying and at times, very pretentious.

    Last of Us II is sequel to an amazing game, that was always going to be hard to follow. In gameplay it certainly does not disappoint; it's faster, more versatile, more dynamic. The story however, is a massive step down in quality - and I sincerely mean whether you liked the direction they chose or not. I didn't; but I can respect their choice. What I don't like is simply the broken structure. Really bad.

    My last note on this: I am definitely going to play Last of Us again. I do not know if I'll ever play LoU II again. The story gives me nothing but grief (in a bad way) and while the gameplay is really good, it's not good enough to carry it for so many hours as the game takes to complete.    … Expand

    Naughty Dog brings out a beautiful world with a disheveled storyline that feels ultimately rushed and put there because the only thing they wanted to do was "SUBVERT EXPECTATIONS" not make a good game.

    You find yourself not giving a damn at all about characters or plots revolving around anyone because the pacing of the game is god awful.

    The game heavily favors Abby with weapons and combat while Ellie just gets pushed to the wayside.

    The game feels like a fever dream because of how half baked the writing is in parts and how repetitive the game feels. The game clearly is trying to force you to like Abby because "SHE PETS DOGS, SHE GETS GOOD GUNS, SHE HAS FRIENDS"

    Where Ellie gets **** weapons, has to kill dogs, and she loses literally everyone along the way in terribly told ways.

    Not to mention for whatever reason Abby and Ellie get so much plot armor that not even god could kill them.

    The flow of this would have been great for a art house movie and a entry at Sundance.But it's incredibly damaging for a video game.This game is ultimately what happens when a game is written for both the head writer's ego and the blue check marks on Twitter. To see a developer become so anticonsumer within the development of one game is truly heart breaking.R.I.P. Naughty Dog.

I finished the last of us part 2 in more than 20 hours of gameplay, and it was simply the best experience I've ever had in a game, the game brings a lot of emotions, surprises you from beginning to end, with a tense and impeccable gameplay, the last of us 2 is one of the greatest masterpieces in the gaming world, and whoever has a ps4, has to play

After playing through about 15 hrs, I didn't hate it, but it didn't think it was amazing. After finishing everything but the prologue, I thought it was a decent game, but disliked it. After finally finishing the game fully, I absolutely love it.
    It is not perfect, it has lots of flaws in pacing, in the non linearity, in some plot issues, but the ending landed amazingly. After getting control with Ellie again in the prologue, I could not stop playing it. It hit the emotional buttons that TLOU1 hit for me, which were nearly overwhelming, and it all made sense to me once I finished it. I
    It's been two days since I finished it, and I haven't stopped thinking about it. It's sticking with me in a way that only really moving material does. I went out of my way to make an account to write this review thats how much of an impression it left.
    It's not perfect, and is a slog at times, the the ending is SO WORTH the effort. Amazing game. Don't let the internet trolls ruin it for you like it almost did for me. Play it, finish it, and let it leave its mark on you.

    Edit. The way this has stuck with me, and with nights of thinking on it, Im changing my score from 9 to 10. I gave it a 9 because I hated a lot of it. But now I think I appreciate those moments and believe thats what ND was going for. If i could give it 9.5 i would, but between 9 and 10, Im giving it a 10.    … Expand

    Dissappointed after 7 years of waiting, I hardly get to play the characters I loved in the first. The storyline is all over the place, must have been a result of people leaving the development team. Yes it looks great, there's so much attention to detail but that attention seems to have detracted from how they should have told the storey.     Incredibly good sequel, improves on the original in every single way. I understand some not enjoying the story, but I thought it was very compelling despite a few awkward scenes, and dialogue. The gameplay is indisputably a massive improvement over the first, along with it's graphics.

    Incredible story with ridiculous detail both in the environment and combat, a technical achievement in all respects. This has to be the best interactive media experience I've ever had. An absolute must play. Brilliant sequel to the original, which I would definitely suggest playing before this one in order to feel the full impact of the narrative.

    Allerdings sind manche Rätsel zu simpel und einige Passagen einfach zu ruhig(Keine Dialoge, keine musikalische Untermalung). Wodurch mein Blick wiederum auf das stimmige und detailverliebte Setting gerichtet wurde(Absicht?).
    Mit der gleichen Hingabe für Details, wurden auch die Dialoge geschrieben, die Cutscenes inszeniert sowie der Score komponiert.
    Abgerundet durch fesselnde Charaktere und einer, von Gewalt und Chaos geprägten Geschichte. In der die Abgründe des menschlichen Handelns ihres gleichen sucht.

    Wer NIX erwartet, auf dem wartet ein emotional mitreißendes Erlebnis, welches unweigerlich Selbstzweifel und Emphatie hervorruft(Selbstreflexion).    … Expand

    Well, old fan of naughtydog games.
    And thats game just sucked, honestly.
    Visuals - good, intro - good, but sory and how that all mixed together - just not good.
    Gameplay didnt change at all, they just added some features from Uncharted4.
    So in conclusion, please dont do such things again, its just not a good game.
    Bad story with old gameplay.

    The Last of Us Part II is the high point of the PlayStation 4. The plot is controversial, but the game is the incredibly addictive adventure of Ellie, from which it is impossible to pull away from the opening and to the very end.

    Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.
