    I think this game has a powerful and impactful storyline. It's very hard to move on after finished the game. And of course because it's so sad and depressed. This game succeed to bring emotional feeling when you play it. The only thing i don't really like is when you've to play Abby in a long time. But this game still masterpiece!

    I am still digesting the game but one week after having finished it I can say i still feel the visceral and disturbing internal discussions I had with myself while playing it. The complex themes, characters and world presented stick with you long after you put the controller down and I couldn’t not compare what I felt and seen while playing to real world events and people. There definitely isn’t one single message in the game but the cycle of violence and how trauma affects the mind and body really stood out for me. The story feels more stretched out compared to the first game but in a good way, although some parts during the second half could have been shorter and the prologue could have been a bit longer (what in my opinion would benefit the overall pacing of the game). The gameplay develops almost in every way compared to the first game, it’s more dynamic and realistic than ever, what serves the story during times making the player feel disgusted by his or her own actions during gameplay what ultimately makes him/her feel more empathy towards your enemies when you kill their friends or loved ones (even their dogs). In the graphical standpoint, I couldn’t state enough how beautiful this post-apocalyptic world is. The sound design, music and representation aspect of the game also deserve a shout out.… Expand

    I was one of the few who went into this game without seeing any spoilers, and I must say that people’s expectations ruined it for them because this was a phenomenal game. The story had me captivated the entire time and while the gameplay is very long it was worth it.

The story is absolutely incredible, there’s twists, it’s heartbreaking, the themes are deep, the flashbacks are amazing. I could go on and on but I’ve never felt so emotionally affected by a game or even another piece of media. Joel dying so early was gut wrenching but set the game up so well. Even with that I actually grew attached to Abby who was a very complex and well written character. All the side characters were also amazing and unique. Besides the story the game looks mind blowing, the fear factor is fantastic and makes you feel vulnerable and like you’re just trying to survive. The combat is extensive and offers lots of variety, gameplay is extremely smooth and satisfying. This easily goes down as my number 1 game of all time and it will take something special to top this. I get why people hate on it because a lot of the story is very controversial and hard to stomach. But if you go in with an open mind and challenge yourself to really understand the characters it will make it a hell of a journey. I applaud Naughty Dog for making such bold decisions as it created a truly remarkable experience.… Expand

    The Last Of Us Part II is a very controversial game. The Gameplay along with fluent animations, makes this game a spectacle to play. The Story is Bering moving and sends an important message that revenge does always provide closure.

    There are a lot of people that love to hate on this game and I just don’t get it. It is one of the most brilliantly told stories I have ever seen. I wish I could play it again for the first time. The ending was absolutely haunting and amazing.

Throughout the story there are so many ups and downs, so many times the story doesn't go the way you want it to go, so many times I stopped the game put down the controller and walked around venting about what I'd seen and what I'd 'done' and what was going to happen. AND DON'T THINK THAT'S DONE UNINTENTIONALLY. You are meant to feel an inevitability. You are meant to not be happy and depressed about this game. THAT'S WHY IT'S AMAZING- IT'S RAW AND TRUE. AND IT IS OBVIOUSLY DONE WITH LOVE, SO MUCH LOVE FOR THE CHARACTERS, THE STORY AND THE WORLD. Those are humans I saw on the screen, even if I know it's actually Ashley doing Ellie's voice in a funny costume, I believe more of the existence of Ellie than of Ashley, because I know Ellie, Joel, Tommy, Abby, Dina, hell even Isaac... and not one of these character's motives are unjustified, just like true humans. For me this game is untouchable. Because the characters are so well crafted that any action of theirs, or most situations in which they appear, feel true and natural (at least to me). I was ready for any ending, I just hoped it wouldn't be underwhelming, and it wasn't, the last part closes the circle, and sets the motives right, of how the destruction of the last glimmer of hope can cause so much destruction. That's life for you folks. And that's why I can't rate the game itself.... I both love it, but I also 'hate' it, because Life is Suffering and it's hard to experience so much suffering In a virtual world and add that on top of the real world. My suggestion is to play HZD righr after you finish TLOU2, as I'm planning on doing rn. PS: (yes the whole PC messages in the story were predictable, however they are incorporated well enough to not feel like pure propaganda)

    THE FACT THAT ABBY IS THE 'GOOD GUY' IN THIS STORY, THAT HER SOUL IS THE FIRST TO LET GO OF THE HATE, AT WHAT I CALL THE 'FIRST ENDING' IS ABSOULTUELY AMAZING. I BELIEVE THAT LETTING THE STORY HAVE A SORT OF 'HAPPY ENDING' IS THE RIGHT CHOICE, BECAUSE IT GIVES HOPE TO THE PLAYERS TOO, THAT WHILE THERE'S A LOT OF UNNECESSARY SUFFERING WE'VE BROUGHT ON TO THE WORLD IT IS NEVER TOO LATE TO STOP. ELLIE'S CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT IS FULLY JUSTIFIED, AND BEUTIFUL IN BOTH ITS SIMULTANEOUS SIMPLICITY AND COMPLEXITY. AND THE REASON WHY JOEL IS DEAD IS BECAUSE HIS STORY HAS ALREADY BEEN TOLD. HE IS NOTHING BUT A GHOST OF GUILT, LOVE AND PURPOSE. THE PURPOSE THAT ELLIE HAD LOST WHEN SHE WASN'T KILLED FOR THE VACCINE. THE PURPOSE THAT WHEN MIXED WITH GUILT MADE ELLIE CHOSE TO GO AFTER ABBY AGAIN INSTEAD OF STAYING WHIT JJ AND HER LOVER. AND THE LAST BIT OF HUMANINTY LEFT IN ELLIE THAT AFTER 'WINNING' AGAINST ABBY MADE HEE REALISE THAT NOTHING IS GOING TO BRING JOEL BACK, AND THAT KILLING ABBY WOULD JUST BRING LEV AFTER HER, DINA AND JJ. OR MAYBE JUST THAT THIS ISN'T WHO SHE WAS, AND THIS ISN'T WHO SHE WANTS TO BE.     Fantastic! It is hard to believe that a game of this scale was made in 5 years. Awesome world, history and graphics. I spent 30 hours in the game, and immediately wanted to re-run. Bravo!

    Best game so far. What happened to original characters is sad but it's the justice every one has to accept because killing innocent people who are willing to do good for world was not the heroism. Best gameplay almost near to the reality

All the negative review stem from people either not understanding the game or not taking the time to play it at all. Joel’s death was a smart plot point and the story that was built from there was so well made that you really start to feel for all the characters. Abby was a character you were supposed to hate and then like, but the people who didn’t understand the game did not comprehend her story. The way Ellie and Abby parallel each other shows that they should be liked the same and it leads to a very interesting story.… Expand

You will not agree with the character’s decisions, which can be really frustrating. But that’s sort of the point of this game’s narrative. My opinion regarding killing Joel at the beginning of the game I think it was well introduced so that it could involve both Ellie's revenge and "Abby's" revenge that in the end wants to seek redemption while Ellie is still consumed by anger, fear , guilt and sadness for what happened to Joel, and it was very impactful, which may have caused many people to have many feelings or not, and regardless of that I know that there are or had many comments cursing and giving low marks because Ellie is a lesbian that it is very sad because there are still people who play the game because of the sexual option of the character and what is shown inside the game as part of LGBT people this for me has no difference is normal remembering that the game is for people over 18 so it does not come with papinho ai pq implement sexuality in the game first the director does whatever he wants with his work and second is a well told story it treats Joel's actions and what he did for all this to happen the fact is the first game was for more 16 ores so there are a lot of dizzy adults with bad and homophobic talk more returning to the subject of the game, the improved gameplay was very good I thought it makes you want to play about it, the graphics are wonderful, the characters some could have put more history in them, nothing more to worry about until they are well involved, there could be more ester eggs more and I like it I’m fissured in ester egg sorry, the expressions are wonderful, jaw dropping in Portuguese is too much I’m Brazilian and the language of America was also amazing.… Expand

    It’s a very emotional and compelling story that has a lot of complexity to it, the stories of Ellie and Abby are beautiful, but at the same time depressing. It’s kind of like a golf club to the head.

It is quite naive and immature to assume that in a deadly post-apocalyptic world that people will behave rationally, morally, or even kindly to one another, and this poignant story explores those perspectives and themes. Many of these review bombers are simply upset that a beloved, albeit, selfish character is killed off early on (despite the fact that death is an increased reality of this game world and that death is the reality of our world too) refuse to give the game any credence thereafter. The game champions a queer hero (who has always been queer since the first game) and a trans character later on who actually fits into and serves the story. These diverse characters are lifted up by an ethnically diverse cast too which feels correct in today’s world. Notions that this game is pandering to queer people, women, and people of colour as a political message (when these diverse people are already existent in our real world) are completely biased and hateful. Especially the ‘joke’ that a certain character is unclearly a man or a woman because of their physique is transphobic and sexist. Please ignore these reviews and enjoy the game for what it is and keep an open mind. In saying all this, my only criticisms of the game is that for a story about revenge and violence it really ought to have a reward system for sacrificing your enemies, and there are also a few small moments where the great illusion of immersion are broken simply because the game tries so hard to be immersive (see, swimming underwater with a backpack full of notes and journals and gunpowder). It seems also that the west especially is not used to seeing their heroes fail, lose or regress, but this is all a part of the brutal but excellent reality that is the Last of Us Part II.… Expand

When the Last of us part II release and the reviews reached one hundred thousand distribution score on Metacritic which contain a lot of negative comment mostly by people somewhat frustrated with the developer (Which I’ve read include death threats to the director and some of the actors) I immediately bought the game to see what the fuzz is all about.

    It turns out to be the best game I’ve played in any console ever and let me tell you the reasons why:

    Gameplay is better than the first one, it enhanced slightly to be more enjoyable and challenging at the same time. More fun and thrilling than the uncharted series I must say.

    Now the story was the one that make the internet fumes with anger and I understand that people would hate the story (I’m not going to judge for the ones that hate it). It deals with the theme of loss, revenge and anger, a very brutal and dark game and I think it’s very well fitted with the last of us story.

    The developer take a huge risk on this game to challenge players for not using the media subjectively. Killing of your beloved characters, make you play as the antagonist while hunting down the main character and more importantly the ending is the example of the risk that they took to challenge how the players feel. by the end of the game I don’t know how my feelings were about it until I took the time to write this review. I understand now why is very much debated and why it got tons of the reviews in the online community, that is how polarizing this game really are.

    Don’t get it wrong, this game is not perfect, it has some flawed. It’s not the game that many people want nor expected and yet it contains scenes that were unforgettable for most players in years to come. Hopefully many studios would still be bold to make something different after the back clash and death threats in recent times. I’m not saying it’s a perfect masterpiece but it deserves for me to be considered as a flawed masterpiece.    … Expand

No quesito técnico o jogo é perfeito: Gráficos impressionantes e foto realistas, melhores expressões faciais que eu já vi, gameplay flúida e sem bugs, apenas o primeiro loading que demora 1 minuto mas depois disso não tem mais, uma ambientação impecável que se você analisar bem uma casa por exemplo da pra ver que as pessoas que ficavam lá tinham uma rotina, uma ótima inteligência artificial que realmente faz os inimigos parecerem humanos pois eles gritam os nomes de um quando ele morre que faz parecer por exemplo que eles estavam juntos faz tempo e realmente se conheciam o único problema é que as vezes você vê o mesmo modelo de inimigo varias vezes, zerei o jogo em 35 horas pois explorei o máximo que eu pode e eu recomendo que você também faça o mesmo pois é muito recompensador não só com recursos mas também com cartas e bilhetes de sobreviventes que são muito legais de ler sem contar com os mais de 200 colecionáveis, cofres, bancadas de melhoria, remédios para melhorar e conseguir habilidades novas como matar mais rápido no furtivo, produzir mais flechas de uma vez e etc, algumas armas escondidas e conversas e cutscenes secundárias entre os personagens que são muito boas como quando Ellie toca take on me no violão para Dina que é muito lindo e memorável, o jogo tem uma dublagem perfeita mas eu recomendo que você ligue a legenda pois as vezes se você estiver muito longe de um companheiro você não vai ouvir bem mas com legenda você pode entender melhor a conversa e por fim o jogo é muito acessível para quem tem alguma Deficiência física pois tem muitas opções de acessibilidade e todos os botões são personalizáveis. This game didn't shove politics in our faces, it always was a part of this franchise ( like seriously, LOU was feminist as **** ). How this game treated it's characters is nothing new. Characters like Henry and Tess showed the player that no character is safe, not even the main one. This game franchise always left the player feeling uneasy ( the last game had Joel completely destroy the only chance for a cure and lied about it ). So alot of this games criticisms are nothing that the last game hasn't done already. This game has gotten a terrible rep despite having tense gameplay, incredible graphics and setting, interesting characters, and a compelling and complicated story. This game had me yelling, crying, cringing ( in the sense of how graphic it's gets at times ) and my heart melting throughout it. But by far the best thing about this game is that it made me feel empty at the end of the story. Most games, hell even most movies and stories, always leave you feeling content despite how unearned it may be most if the time. They leave the audience satisfied but not always challenged in the end. So for a triple A game to take the risk of pissing off it's player base to go for a story that leaves an impact is something very astonishing. Most players would like to believe that video games should be an art form and one that can be taken seriously. But they often times don't want games or stories that deviate outside of the norm. And with this game, they just want this story to conform to other stories that make them feel comfortable. Without room for works that can challenge, games no longer become art but rather products.

    What I'm trying to say is that this game isnt a huge deviation from what has happened before, that it pulls off what it sets to do very well, that this game does things that even most movies dare not to do and that if games are art then they should be allowed to be challenging. But above all else is tgat this game has pushed the game industry forward in having this form of entertainment be considered art with it's incredible story and gameplay.

    If anything else, at least this game has left many with an intense emotion rather than most other games that leave most feeling nothing.



    P.s. I'm sorry if this doesn't make a whole lot of sense, there's just so much I can say about this game and it's hard to form it all in a nice understandable way ( I can talk for hours about this game ).This was just a way of me putting my rambly feelings out there.

    P.s. again. Also yeah I know that me saying that this game did alot of the same **** that the last game did might seem like it clashes with my statement that this games pushes the boundaries of the gaming industry. But the series has always pushed boundaries and it clearly has carried onto this title :)

    P.s again ( last time, I promise ) There are some genuine criticisms of how it was falsly marketed and how the trans character Lev was handled. Firstly, yeah it was ****ty to promise one thing and deliver another and ND shouldn't have lied about what in the game ( like at least be honest about the dog part ). Lastly, I loved Levs character and although the rep is not as bad as other trans characters in the past, it's still not great. They probably shouldn't have deadnamed and talked about his trans trauma, and they probably should've hired trans writers for his character. However, it is nice how Levs character is not just his trauma and that he's a fully fleshed out character, and that they did actually hire a trans man to voice act and mocap his character. Also, the fact that there is any trans guy rep in a major videogame at all is incredible. The line about Lev having to do the nasty with the elders and showing Lev fight with his mom about his tranness was a step too far. I still love the character anyways.    … Expand

    This game doesn't deserve a 10, but it definitely doesn't deserve all these 0.
    It's a weird flex, you don't get to a narrative climax in any moment, reminds me of RDR2 where there were lots of potential moments but never got to a climax.

I don't know if that was the real intention of Naughty Dog, maybe they just wanted to make the player suffer throughout the entire game. It leaves you somehow broken, just like Ellie.

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. A true masterpiece. I'll focus on the narrative aspect for this review, because I think few would dispute a 10/10 rating on the graphics/sound side of things. I also think the gameplay is greatly improved over the first game and largely deserving of a 10/10 rating. Anyway, onto the real point of contention, the narrative:

    I truly think this game will have a lasting impact on the videogame industry and we'll still be talking about it a decade from now. I think similarly to the first it transcends the medium and changes the expectation for video game narrative.

    Essentially it can be boiled down to this question: does a video game need to provide a sense of accomplishment and validation of your actions, or can it force you to do things you don't want to do?

    I see it a lot like Spec Ops: The Line, which flipped the narrative by framing your gameplay as horrific, but mostly tormenting you for actions to which you couldn't see the consequences beforehand. Basically the game was asking you to think about your actions, but only after you recklessly performed them. There's a little of Shadow of The Colossus too, which slowly made you realize you were the antagonist, you were the one tormenting the colosses

    In both these games the gameplay is still "fun" and you are a willing participant in these actions, they are just painted as cruel narratively, often *after* you've performed them.

    TLOU2 takes it a step further by forcing you to perform actions you do not want to perform. It creates your antagonist then forces you to play as her. It forces you to try to kill Ellie, the person you love, the person you are rooting for. It forces you to play as both the hero and villain to *both* stories. It's heartbreaking and difficult, and often it's not... fun. And that's why I think it transcends the medium and takes it to new grounds, in a continuation to what TLOU1 did for AAA storytelling.

    It's a breakthrough and a masterpiece, and I can't wait to see how it impacts the industry and what Naughty Dog comes up with next    … Expand

    Wonderful game. It is incredible how the story is told and how it makes you feel from the start throughout the end.

    Great sequel of my favourite game of all time. I really enjoyed it and im sad that it ended.

    Best generation game ever. sound design, visual design, compacts mechanics, environmental design, and accessibility was really masterpiece and outstanding from Naughty Dog. Phenomenal work of arts and engineering has been delivered in this game. Story line and music choices compared with first part its not that quality, but still very good in a way or other. Very good job

    The Last of Us Part II is the high point of the PlayStation 4. The plot is controversial, but the game is the incredibly addictive adventure of Ellie, from which it is impossible to pull away from the opening and to the very end.

    Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.
