    Maybe the most intensive video game experience I ever had!
    My feelings were like on a rollercoaster ... sympathy and antipathy changed during the game and I was so invested in the story.
    In my opinion one of the best videogames ever made.

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Played both. Didn't read spoilers. Wasn't sure I was gonna love 2 as much as 1. Thought a basic revenge story would be boring. People on the internet are skimming through this game as if it were a reading assignment due the next day (it shows). The game tells a complex tale of coping with grief, challenging you to objectively humanize the enemy, and themes of evolving identity analogous to the first game. Along with a ton more that I know I missed on my first playthrough. If you are on the fence about playing this game stop reading reviews, stop watching content, just find a way to play the game yourself. The experience is powerful if you just allow yourself to experience it organically. Or... Continue to spread negativity and gain nothing but contempt from others I.e. post comments about a game you truly never attempted to care about in a futile attempt to get revenge for a plotline that you disagree with. The game won't change and you being mad about it does nothing about it sales figures 4 million copies in 3 days. Learn to move on.… Expand

Joel's death is really hurt, and a game shouldn't take such a complex story, we need time to fighting and garbage collecting etc., damn it is not as good as 10, I do this because there are too many low scores just for anger and hatred, I just hope there will be a part 3. tears...… Expand

    Intel's hate this game. All these negative reviews from people who haven't played the game just show how sad the gaming community is. No one takes this community seriously and for good reason. Get a life, get out the basement, you are what all the stereotypes stem from. It's sad and cringe. On top of that, I'm on my second play though and can say this game is amazing.

    What an amazing achievement this game is. Besides the amazing visuals and improved gameplay, I really appreciated what ND did with the story. I applaud them for trying something different. Yes, it didn't work for everyone. But if it worked for you, it worked big time. The emotional rollercoaster that the game provides is unprecedented.

    It is an absolute masterpiece. I can't stress this enough. A MASTERPIECE of gaming.
    It has its flaws like any other game before and like any game that is yet to come. But no matter if it's graphic, storyline, characters or gameplay, it's incredible. I cannot understand all the hate. Play it yourself.

    Potentially my favourite game of all time. Loved the first when it came out, finished it 4 times. However I loved this game even more. People can't handle it's method of story telling, the controversy justifies it's uniqueness and brilliance. I have no tolerance for the stupidity displayed by haters. Philistines. 11/10

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The story of this game is a hard hitting one. It takes dark and horrific turns. Characters are humanised and dehumanised, even your enemies have names.

    The Last of Us 2 is a story of how Abby went from a toxic, vengeful individual to somebody with purpose and a heart, who felt empathy for others and truly realised that every side is capable of being evil, or good.

    On the flip side, it's a story of how Ellie goes from an already fairly broken person to a vengeful, toxic mess. It's almost like she and Abby swap places.

    But I do think that Joel definitely had to die - he was going to. Ellie may have never viewed it that way (You can tell how selfish she is when she's telling him "you took that from me" rather than "you brought me to these people, then murdered them all"), but he was far from perfect, far from a good person, and it was inevitable that his past would catch up to him. By the end Ellie was worse than he was, by a significant margin. If you're attached to Ellie and Joel especially, you'll struggle with this game. If you struggle with empathy chances are you'll hate it.

    Dina is a gem of a character and a bastion of patience, Lev was amazing and really lent to the development of Abby, who definitely had the better arc as a human being. Those environments though, absolutely stunning - that situational environmental design and attention to detail is unrivalled. I'd love to see a sequel from the perspective of Lev and Abby, I think that'd be pretty awesome.    … Expand

    Best graphics, animations and sound. it wasn't the story we all expected.

But then the irreparable happened, a lot of videos from the game were leaked, whole cutscenes, fights, etc. I think that this is the reason for all the misfortune that this game faced. For many people, torn scenes from the context gave them an erroneous opinion about the whole product. All this, of course, fueled the integration of LGBT people into the game (which, in fact, does not matter much in the game), and this topic has been very problematic in recent years. I am sure that the studio and Neil knew that this would happen and consciously took a risk. However, Ellie and her story have been crushingly criticized. I hope that in the future, people will learn to criticize a product only after they are fully acquainted with it.

    I have been waiting for the game for 5 years and for me it is not just a hobby, it is a personal story into which I was drawn. And I waited, waited patiently, but then leaks that were impossible to get away from (social networks, YouTube and everything else is an integral part of life now). And it really ruined my impressions, I was very upset. But despite this, I enjoyed this incredible story for 30 hours. About which I will say only a little. The plot is not something unique, we have already seen this in world cinema, but the presentation itself and how we learn the history from all sides makes this game beautiful. And it is heartbreaking, however, all as promised to us, only pain, revenge and a circle of violence.
    Everyone will always find cons for themselves, but really something that spoils the game is not here. If Naughty Dog were asked what I didn’t like in the game, I would only remember about the NPC that sometimes interferes with passing and about enemies who do not always act logically.
    Summing up, I want to say that I am grateful to the studio, to every person who worked on this incredible game. I do not stop watching a video about development, listening to podcasts, and watching early Art in Istagram. Thank you very much for everything.
    Despite the huge damage from the spoilers, I can still say that the game broke my heart and in the end I cried. I think that was exactly what was intended so that the story of Ellie would destroy not only her, but also us, the last of us.    … Expand

I went in blind, never watched the spoilers, didn't stayed on the internet much before it's release, and as soon as I finished it I wanted to talk about it so badly, so naturally, I went to Reddit and oh my god I couldn't believe what the heck happened because personally I really loved the game and everyone seemed to hate it.

    Now one week later, as more people actually played (or watched walkthroughs on youtube) the game, I noticed more and more positive feedback as each day passed, predominately on the PS4 sub and the main TLOU one, also the Metacritic score raised up to 5.0, from a 3.2, leading me to believe that the initial reaction was mostly composed of online troll with nothing better to do. That's not to say that there aren't persons who genuinely don't like the game, but usually, they came in as more civil and respectful to other's opinions.

    From a technical point of view for me this game is a marvel, from graphics and sound design to incredible attention to details it's just perfect. I didn't enjoy so much the gameplay of a game in a long time, HZD was the last game I think to leave me in a state of "wow this **** is so fun". Regarding performance, I don't understand how they did it but the game runs even smoother than Uncharted 4 for me, as with that game I witnessed a few nasty fps drops a couple of times, here I didn't encounter any sequences with noticeable frame rates drops. I play on a ps4 slim from 2017.

    With that said I really loved the story as well, the (big spoilers ahead) midway switch to Abby clicked with me, eventually, I ended up liking her, by the final chapters I was seriously hoping Ellie won't kill her, not only because I liked Abby and Lev as characters, but because it would mean the definitive downfall of our protagonist in my opinion. The sudden pop of Joel's memory as she was suffocating Abby to death was a representation of how Ellie acknowledged that she was using revenge as a coping mechanism to escape guilt because she didn't make amends with Joel before he died, killing Abby wouldn't fix her issues on the long run. And I think at that moment came some great character development for Ellie, as it takes great willpower to control your rage and spare the murderer of your beloved in an attempt to move forward and heal. So for me, the ending was actually bittersweet, touched by a note of hope, showing us that the main theme was actually forgiveness. Maybe it hit me differently because I'm trying to leave aside my toxic "solutions" and attitude towards some personal issues I have

    All in all, this is a 10/10 for me, the pacing at times could have been better, but other than that it's a really good game. Definitely a must have at least when it's on sale.    … Expand

It's laughable so you can happily ignore those reviews. They're from trolls who haven't even played the game because let's face it, why would someone spend 30 hours of their life playing a game they thought was one of the worst ever made.
    This game's story, among its many themes, is about choices and their consequences. Naughty Dog has made a game that forces you to play through the consequences of those choices which carry over from the first game and they're confronting. It just takes a little emotional intelligence, emotional maturity and empathy to appreciate the wrenching experience they've achieved in this game. Unfortunately trolls don't have those traits and are doomed to spiral down a path of hate that will only damage themselves.     This has got to be one of the best games I've ever played, no joke, Such a shame about the review bombing, especially from people who never played the game. The gameplay was absolutely fantastic, and so was the first half of the story. While the second half did drag on a bit and could've ended 3 hours earlier, I was ultimately satisfied with it.

    I honestly can't see another game this year even coming close to the experience I had while playing the Last of Us Part II. As a fan of the original game, this is a beautiful and brutal continuation of all the groundwork the first game created.     Combat feels fluid, tactical and exhilarating. It has the same brutal impact of the original’s, mixed with an increased variety of ways to approach scenarios with some thrilling results. The environments are some of the most detailed in any game I’ve experienced and the graphics are some of the best on either console or PC. The music and sound design are also stand out along with the brilliant acting and mo-cap from the likes of Ashley Johnson, Laura Bailey and Troy Baker who breath such life into their characters. The story has proven to be incredibly divisive but I really feel its one of the strongest parts of the game. It drew me in completely and I just had to keep playing as I was desperate to know how it would all come to an end.    … Expand

Gameplay and graphics had serious upgrades from the first game, encounters felt more fluid with more options to interact and ways to navigate situations, and the infected were less of a set-piece and actually felt like a part of the game's world. Graphics wise, as demonstrated by trailers, this game looks beautiful.

    *Spoiler Alert*

    Story wise, part 1, featuring Ellie, is enjoyable and her flashbacks with Joel and other people are sad and interesting to watch. Do pacing issues exist? Yeah, 100%, but for me, I don't think it took away from the game itself. Part 2, featuring Abby, was interesting. I didn't feel motivated to play the game for a few hours, but eventually, I started to dig into her story and enjoy it. I would say the second half of the Abby portion is more intriguing than the first half.

    I've never felt this range of emotions when playing a game or watching a movie before, and it's telling on how well made this game is. Do not believe 99% of the Negative reviews, as they're purely    Neil Druckman and Naughty Dog delivered a fantastic narrative in this 25-30 hours campaign, in a way that has never ever been done before in a video game.. or even in a movie before.

    I've never felt this range of emotions when playing a game or watching a movie before, and it's telling on how well made this game is.

    Do not believe 99% of the Negative reviews, as they're purely review-bombers who have not played the game. If you were expecting a fairy tale with butterflies and birds chirping, I understand why you didn't like this game.

    The first game, for me, was the best game I've ever played, by MILES. Until the sequel. I'm not sure yet where the sequel stands in comparison to the first one, but I can say without hesitation that they are at the very least the 2 best games I've ever played.    … Expand

Addressing the elephant in the room first: While there is not as much Joel as everyone would have liked, this is still primarily a Joel and Ellie story. The whole game/plot and everything that happens is because of Joel and his relationship with Ellie. Yes, Joel died early on in the game, however we got plenty of Joel and Ellie through flashbacks and the two of them had a fantastic story arch with a beginning, middle and end. I think anything more than what we got would have been redundant and overbearing. We did not need another ‘Joel and Ellie go on another adventure’ game. We got that with the first game. The story in this game in my opinion is a fluent, cohesive continuation of the first and if there was ever going to be a second game, I’m so glad this is the one we got.

    Everyone seems so hung up on the fact that their favourite character dies early on, that they don’t appreciate that Joel’s absence is just as important to the story, if not more than when he was there. And he and Ellie had their own fully fledged story and character arcs.

    Beautiful game. My only gripe is the pacing. So many times I thought the chapters could have been condensed as they felt really stretched out and I think the game could have benefitted from being shorter.

    Soundtrack was beautiful and in my opinion better than the first. Loved Abby’s character and towards the end of the game , I liked her more than Ellie.

    This is one of the rare times that a sequel has succeeded my expectations and improved on the first in every aspect: gameplay, graphics, animation, sound design, acting, characters, story and soundtrack. It’s a game that will stick with me for years and years to come. It’s been close to a week since I completed the game and it’s still the only thing on my mind.

    Perfección! Juego recomendadisimo! Del amor al odio y del odio al amor en cuestión de segundos, completa empatía con los personajes y tremendo guíon, hubo fallas, hubo uno que otro agujero pero todo se cumple, las expectativas están cubiertas. Definitivamente juegos del año

    What naughty dog have achieved with this game transcends the medium. This is a bold narrative that will challenge you in your beliefs and dive into the complexity of human emotion. This is triumph from the beginning to the end.

    The story worked on every level for me, and I understand this is highly subjective. It is very possible that the story does not work for you, but i implore anyone that is interested in this game to not buy into the hate vitriol and experience it for yourself if you can.

    From a gameplay perspective, this is an evolution rather than a revolution. What worked in game 1 has been refined, and what was janky been polished. The stealth aspects have been tweaked and it is a blast to play through encounters, despite the bleakness and violence of this world.

    I have a few gripes, with the length of the game being a small issue. I do believe that the last few combat encounters were one too many, and the game could have had a more laser focused narrative at the end. On easier difficulties, enemy AI can be a bit simple, but I think playing on hard and above gives you a real challenge.

    Despite these small issues, i have still given this game a perfect score as a i believe full marks in this case is not perfection, but rather it recognises what is to my mind a masterpiece, and a story that will stick with me for years to come, and one that I will discuss and dissect extensively into the foreseeable future.    … Expand

    Honestly the most gripping game I've played. I assume the negative reviews come from people who spent too long getting what they want all the time and the game doesn't just give it to you. The story, gameplay, visuals and sounds are all 10/10.

    Butt hurt baby who never got the cookie cutter black and white Joel and Ellie story they wanted and didn’t even decide to give it a chance. This game took risks and I love it and the team at naughty dog for that. They decided to tell a realistic grey morals tale in a world that fits. Everyone has done bad things and their are consequences for that. As much as I love Joel he has done some objectively awful things in his past and it only makes sense that one day the his actions would come back to haunt him.     The Story for me was 10/10 and perhaps the most ambitious and heart-wrenching narrative in any video game that I have played. I understand that for some people some of the narrative choices made are irredeemable, but to get the most out of this game you have to be willing to empathise and forgive, just as readily as you hate the characters.

    If you go into the game expecting a safe sequel for the first game this is not what you are going to get. The world naughty dog created is brutal and the story and gameplay reflect this. At the beginning of the game, the realistic violence can leave one with a sense of glee ( who doesn't find it funny blowing up a guy and watching him disappear in a cloud of mist), but after a while, after killing dogs, listening as the friends of the enemies you kill scream out their fallen comrades names you start to feel disillusioned with the character's righteousness. By the end of the game I was begging Ellie to end this revenge; no game has ever made me feel like this, not since the first the last of us.

    Abby's section of the game is genuinely one of the best, once you start to accept her. There was an initial slog at the beginning of her first day, but once you get captured by the seraphites she really comes into her own, and has some of the best set pieces and gameplay moments in the whole game. The stalker fight in the forest, all of day 2 and the scouring of the seraph island were perfection.

    Overall a 10/10 game, well worth the seven year wait.    … Expand

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Is this game Controversial?  Yes.  Is this game going to make you feel very Uncomfortable at times?  Also, yes.  Is this game Good?  In my opinion, Heck Yes!  And here is why...

    This highly-anticipated game carried with it tremendous pressure to deliver something that fans would love and which honored its predecessor - an almost unanimously loved game with equally loved anti-heroes in Joel and Ellie.  I'm truly sad to hear if you feel let down by this game because I can imagine how disappointing that would feel for me.  However, I loved this game, and I honestly cannot fathom anyone giving this game lower than a 7/10 - even if they hated the plot (a sentiment that many have been vocal about).  Let's talk about why I feel this way:

    Graphics - 10/10 The game is visually stunning.  There are many times I paused my gameplay just to be still and admire the detail in the scenery.  In classic Naughty Dog fashion, attention to details such as 1. Footprints in snow/dust/blood.  2. Dripping of water from clothing.  3. Facial expressions of the playable character changing based on environment/action.  4. Unique interactions with the environment such as looking over your shoulder when walking up stairs backward.  

    Gameplay - 9/10 I found the gameplay significantly more enjoyable even than TLOU Part 1.  The addition of squeezing through cracks in the wall made evading or sneaking up on enemies more fluid.  Dogs who can smell your scent trail made attempted stealth turn into sudden shootouts and chases.  And the Stalkers!  OMG these things really tighten up the ol' sphincter when they jump out at you!  I can't give this a 10 because I found some of the "looting" a bit annoying after a while because it distracts from the story.  There is a setting to automatically pick up loot, and turning this on has made things much more enjoyable.

    Story - 9/10 Writing - 10/10 Okay - Story vs Writing.  If I explained to you the plot of Star Wars: A New Hope, that is the story.  Now I ask you to write the script for this plot - that is the writing.  I totally understand why people would have an issue with the Story.  I love Joel and Ellie, and it was painful to see Joel die that way... and WAY more painful to see Ellie make the choices she does as well.  And the game took a big risk by having us play as Abby and relive Seattle from her perspective.  This isn't the story I wanted or asked for - but I genuinely appreciated traveling down this road and will not soon forget the experience.  The characters are complex and their story arcs are satisfying and real.  The writing is being bombed in reviews and I don't understand that.  Think about all the conversations and dialogue these characters have.  Each interaction develops character relationships and gives insight into the character dynamics - all while feeling like natural conversations.  Compare this to other games where dialogue is repeated in an unnatural way by NPCs.  TLOU truly feels more grounded.  Joel and Ellie's trip to the Dinosaur/Space museum is the new "giraffe moment" from part 1 - and it makes us feel ALL the feels.  It is a testament to the writing that spending time with Manny and Abby actually changed my mind about how strongly I disliked them both in the beginning.  And I love that the game handled the consequences of Joel's actions head-on in this game.  Joel lied to Ellie, and Ellie sensed this.  As sad as I am to see Joel die, it made his truthful moments with Ellie as he came clean even more powerful.

    Voice Acting - 10/10 This game has a star-studded cast.  Heavyweights like Troy Baker, Ashley Johnson, and Laura Baily deliver flawless performances - in addition to smaller roles like Isaac (voiced by Jeffrey Wright) leaving such an impression when he is only in 2 scenes!  Compare this to other AAA video games and nothing holds a candle to the performances here.  Each of the actors did an amazing job.

    In conclusion - I would recommend that you play this game in its entirety.  I loved it.  It tells a unique story of love, loss, and consequences.  Love or hate the story, the team at Naughty Dog deserves respect for another groundbreaking game.     … Expand

NOTHING is a forced agenda it all felt very natural. I think you have to play this game to give it a review. Everything's explained and you actually become sympathetic towards abby even when she killed Joel which is something i was adamant i wasnt going to do as i loved Joel. The ups and downs of how you feel towards, ellie and abby is very challenging and i havent played a game like it since Heavy rain. Overall one of my favourite game and im sad to see its been given such bad reviews by people who have never played it just because they are butt hurt about a leak.
    9/10 because i felt going back around the same map was pretty annoying as abby. Especially the aquarium.    … Expand

If you pay attention to what's going on and don't reject it because you dislike what happens at the start with Joel's death, you'll see that the game actually does a great job of telling an unconventional and uniquely structured story that IS good. People who only took away 'revenge bad' from the ending have missed the point. It becomes clear through flashbacks from the end that Ellie hates how she treated Joel and hates that she wasted the years that she had left with him since she was never able to forgive what he did, so acted out over the course of the game to take revenge. The game is not about revenge, it's about Ellie forgiving people - Abby and Joel - and moving forward, realising that it just is not worth it.… Expand

    Eu nunca falarei pra alguém algo do tipo:você está preparado para essa experiencia incrível?Pois o jogo não é uma experiência incrível,e sim uma jornada dolorosa,que te faz sentir emoções intensas como nada já havia feito eu sentir,mas felicidade não está entre essas emoções na maioria das vezes,mas por incrível que pareça isso é bom...Esse jogo é uma experiência horrível e pesada que ninguém que jogou o primeiro está preparado,mas esse jogo é uma dor que vale a pena,porém não recomendo ele se você estiver em uma semana corrida que precise de concentração,pois depois de zerar eu não conseguia pensar em mais nada além dele,e estou assim até agora.
    Em questão de gameplay o jogo melhorou o que já tinha sendo mostrado,colocando novas mecânicas que serão muito usadas durante o jogo,e que foram colocadas de modo que você vê ainda mais diferença entre jogar com Joel e Ellie,porém nada completamente espetacular,pois o que realmente afeta a gameplay,assim como foi no primeiro,é o clima tenso intensificado por Gustavo Santaolalla,dando um clima diferente do que sentíamos no primeiro,um clima de ódio,tristeza e tragédia,que deixa a gameplay dolorosa e fantástica    … Expand

    The brilliance of this game is the way it explores it's themes, not only on it's characters but on the player too. To make you feel something and then question why you feel that way. It's not the game many people wanted, and honestly it's not the game I wanted either, but what Naughty Dog delivered is an experience more meaningful, thought provoking and emotionally shattering than what IThe brilliance of this game is the way it explores it's themes, not only on it's characters but on the player too.     This game was amazing. The story was very mature and requires empathy to view the story from the perspective of everyone involved. The Gameplay is great but the controls will take a while to adjust too but once a few encounters are completed then you will be right at home.

    The only downside to the game is that some levels and chapters are very drawn out and I feel some of the second    This game was amazing.     The only downside to the game is that some levels and chapters are very drawn out and I feel some of the second half could have been a bit shorter. I tend to feel this way with most when I find myself ready for the ending.

    I can not stress enough this game is amazing and should be enjoyed from end to end and it requires empathy and reflection.. the final scenes will be with me forever and the ultimate message... this will be a hallmark of what we have to look forward to in future of gaming.    … Expand

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The game from beginning to end is simply beyond anything I’ve ever played. The story was not what I expected and I’m glad for that. From wanting to take my revenge for what a character has done to me to then switching and yet again take my revenge against the character I had played 10 hours ago. It takes risk and massive guts to try and switch my perspective and opinions and they succeeded wildly. The game really has to be played to be able to understand and appreciate what it’s doing.… Expand

    The Last of Us Part II is the high point of the PlayStation 4. The plot is controversial, but the game is the incredibly addictive adventure of Ellie, from which it is impossible to pull away from the opening and to the very end.

    Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.
