Two points deducted for Abby’s Story Arc and pacing. Besides that the story is solid despite too many flash back sequences. Good game just not at the level of the original.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I think this game is really good. The gameplay, the story (except the Joel part), the voice acting, graphics, mechanics, the pacing, enemies, and characters are outstandingly good. Many people that wrote reviews are just pissed about the Joel part and I agree that it sucked but they act like that one scene ruined this 25-hour long game. Just because the game shows that the game addresses serious topics like death, doesn't mean it's bad. Stuff like this happens in real life you know. They wanted to make a sad story and knew the response they were going to get. They didn't make this game for people that think that everything is perfect and that every game should have a Disney like "everything is perfect" ending. The game isn't rated FSK 18 for nothing and just because you didn't like that one scene doesn't mean everything else is bad. Personally, I really enjoyed this game, and it's just getting review bombed because little kids think the world is perfect. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view.

    Grande jogo, vou zerar novamente.

A piece of art, don't understand why there's so much hate about the game, they took a risk killing of Joel so early but I'd say it paid off I was hooked to kill Abby but then I by the end I felt the pain of both characters.. only downfall is the character models glitching in cutscenes and taking away some of the experience Expand

Playing as both Ellie and Abby was very surprising and after being stunned 2 and a half hours into it, I couldn’t get enough. The ending was different, but I certainly didn’t hate it. I just completed Part II after completing the first game, and I thought that The Last of Us: Part II takes most of the aspects of the first game and drastically improves on them. The "hide-and-seek" style of gameplay is way more interesting in my opinion compared to a normal stealth game, the map design is far better with more branching paths and areas to explore, to the point where it sometimes feels open world, and the crafting and weapon systems from the first game have been improved upon greatly. If there's one word to describe this game, I would say it would be "brutal" because every punch, shot, and explosion feels so real and guttural. The enemies call out eachothers names whenever one is killed, the dogs whimper and shake when dying. The game is just so nihilistic and real and I love it so much. For the story, I really enjoyed it. The whole concept of 2 parallel stories going on at once was really interesting. I think that this is one of the only games where I felt like, along with the characters, I was having my own character development, trying to figure out which characters I liked, which characters I didn't, and what was right and wrong. The game is really enjoyable, and once I finished it's roughly 22 hour campaign, I felt satisfied by the game's story and the direction it took it. The only reason that the game is not getting a 10/10 for me is because I felt like some parts felt rushed, and some parts dragged along for a bit more than they needed to. Overall, if you have a PS4, do buy this game. It looks phenomenal and is well worth the $59.99. Expand

Quite simply the most impressive video game I’ve ever played. Narratively challenging, visually stunning, the most dynamic combat I’ve ever experienced in a video game. Really something else. Play the game, forget the knuckleheads who can’t get past Joel’s death to appreciate a layered and complicated story. This was a remarkable, moody and stunning journey.

Go in with an open mind and be willing to see through the story, and try to put your biases aside as much as possible. With tight gameplay, excellent visuals, and a solid combat system The Last Of Us Part II is a blast to play. It's a game changing and monumental work of art, and is executed masterfully. The story is beautiful and heartbreaking. There are no "political opinions pushed" onto the player, and the game does not strictly tell you how to feel. There are also no good or bad guys, yet many of the critics feel the need to use that as an argument, which is proven to not be the case at various times throughout the game. The characters are dynamic and rich, and the voice acting is top notch. While this game is sure to be decisive, keep an open mind and form your own opinions based on the story that the game developers wanted to tell. The few cons that I had would deal with the game overstaying it's welcome, and certain parts dragged on, and risked being repetitive to the point of being boring. I encountered a few minor bugs, but I would not say they impacted the experience, and none of them were game-breaking. Give this game a chance. I would realistically give it an 8/10 due to the gameplay being too long, about 3 hours could have been cut and instead that time could have been utilized to build more story moments and to give us more information and moments with key characters. All in all, this game is worth it, and does not deserve all the mindless hate that it gets. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. So, it’s been a few days since I finished the last of us part II. I honestly had to take the time to digest what I’ve witnessed during my 21hr play through. The game is what it is. It’s not perfect the story is debatable on what you take from it. Whether you believe they should have kept Joel alive or killed him. The story throwing you into a character that took the life of a character we’ve only been waiting seven years to get back in the control of, which I won’t lie it boiled me up from the moment it happened. The game is beautiful, the gameplay is even better. I love every moment of feeling that if I make one wrong move I’m gonna end up getting killed. The non infected characters (Scars, WLF) etc. are intelligent in their attempts to see you die. Crawling around and staying out of sight trying to lead dogs away from your scent and picking each enemy off one by one. But when things go pear shaped the enemies attack you relentlessly and reacted to each other being killed by shouting their names. I honestly think the gameplay made up for a lot of the story. The cutscenes are very long and sometimes drag a bit. I felt like i was itching all the time to jump back into gameplay. We got to witness Ellie face a lot of adversities during her 3 days in Seattle but she ultimately came out of this on the worse end and loses absolutely everything. When the credits role I felt like is that it? I spent twenty one hours playing to just end up with one of the worst endings in a game ever. Yes, I get it Ellie couldn’t live with herself not revenging or gaining closure for someone she held so dear as her father figure. I think this game is something everyone should experience as a playstation gamer it’s the tip of the mountain of how far this current gen can push the console to its limits. This isn’t for everyone and it’s not the first game in anyway. But look everyone has the right to their own opinions so go enjoy the game.

Thank you! Neil Druckman, Troy Baker, Ashley Johnson, Jeffrey Pierce.

This game is a genuine masterpiece of Gameplay and Story, i love almost everything about this game, ill start with my cons as i only really have 1, Pacing, i think this game can drag on sometimes, especially in Abbys sections but other then that, id say this game has so many pros it doesnt matter, Joel is dead and that means war to Ellie, Joels past actions regarding the fireflys and his actions at the finale of last of us 1, Abby, the daughter of the doctor at the hospital that Joel murder'd for Ellie, Now this is important, im ok with Joel dying, this is because it makes sense, Joel did something AWFUL, he doomed the Earth for his own gain, Your actions have consequences, as is shown by Ellie chasing down Abby as a result, this game made me feel more then any game ive ever played, before i discuss the ending i feel i should discuss the Gameplay, it feels great to play and looks absoulutely phenomenal and it maintans the last of us 1s tone and gameplay, its a broken world. Now the ending, i think the Ending is amazing, the game would have been so basic if "Ellie kills Abby you win", this is TLOU you rarely win, Ellie earned her revenge, but she broke they cycle, because if she killed him, she would be just as bad as her, i think people dont want to like Abby because they refuse to understand that Joel did Horrible things, People hate Abby because they are actively TRYING to hate Abby, i understand hating her at the start but if you still WANT to hate her, your obviously going to hate her by the end, if you let your guard down, you would actually start to like her and her friends, the ending leaves it open for both of them. I love the last of us 2 and i think the story was done well, G'night. Expand

Last of Us Part II Review

If you’re looking for super happy times, don’t play this game.

Many people do not appreciate the brutality, bleakness and grittiness of this story, and instead want to look away and curse at it rather than see what it is really about: finding the light in the dark.

It is an often-overwhelmingly dark story that shocks you to your core, and if you don’t like that then you won’t like the characters or their actions, which seem perfectly natural in a world as bleak and unforgiving as post-apocalyptic Seattle.

As well done as those elements are, the story is overlong by about 5 hours, there is an anticlimax that could have been more emotional (that ends up turning itself around and making up for it in the end) and the gameplay gets a bit repetitive sometimes.

But there’s truly no need for the slew of negative reviews that have come out from users panning it for having a “bad” story and being “disrespectful“ of characters we love when in reality they just can’t handle the truth.

Oh, and people panning it for pushing a LGBTQ agenda can shove it— the story is about so much more than merely pushing a political agenda.

    8.5/10. Great game.

I spent a while considering if TLOU2 was better than #1 - or if the sequel was justified. But fans wouldn't have been happy without a sequel (and dare I say there will be flaming if #3 isn't produced). But on reflection I think you have to think about this as "Part 2", and how it really does complement the first game and fills in the story. I partly agree with some who thought there should have been some player decisions allowed to drive the ending - but like a good (if tragic) novel - this is the story that has been told. And it's emotive power is apparent - which is primarily what makes it the triumph I think it will be regarded as. Cutting edge graphics, gameplay and flow are all there but secondary to this. To all the haters, get over it - life isn't all black and white and the good guys don't always live happily ever after. Expand

I do NOT judge games based on a meticulous set of principles or mechanics, such as how the gunplay felt or how the sound quality was. Instead, I judge games on the entire experience and how I felt after the credits rolled. I understand that this type of review may not be for everyone, but if you were like me in any way, I think you’ll enjoy this.

CONTEXT: The first last of us was my favorite game of all time. I say WAS because the last of us part 2 has filled its role. I understand that neither the first nor second last of us has the most inanely deep story like the Witcher 3 or something, but its execution is beyond anything I’ve ever played before.

Preface: There is, unfortunately, a LOT of troll hating going on, do not listen to it. I actually really appreciate the people who genuinely don’t like it and provide legit criticisms. As the director, Neil drunk man said, this game is going to divide people, and it certainly did. That being said, let me say why I think the last of us 2 is a 10/10.

This is NOT a comprehensive review that describes each individual component of the game (gunplay, sound, controls, etc) but rather I speak from the heart and I want to convey why I think this game is amazing. I was very nervous after the initial backlash before the game was released since the first game was my favorite of all time and I didn’t want its image to be tarnished in my mind. That being said here’s why I love this game.

IN MY OPINION, this game accomplishes everything we were told it was going to be. It shows how the cycle of violence can make anyone act unpredictably, it makes you question the motives of characters you’ve loved for years, and it facilitates every aspect of its core gameplay around the story. This game has brought up emotions in me that I have never felt from any piece of media before. It gut punches you approximately 10 times throughout the story and I believe this is why so many gamers are upset. This game does not make you “feel good“ in fact, by the very end, it’ll make you feel very sad. I may be wrong, but I feel like most gamers wanted a cool, exciting story with a happy ending (like every other story ever), but naughty dog did what most others don’t, they didn’t create THAT kind of story.

The gameplay and shooting mechanics are not the most picture-perfect refined controls ever, the scavenging does not facilitate a perfect crafting system, but every decision about every mechanic in the last of us 2 feels like it was specifically made to make the player feel grounded in reality and to facilitate the story unfolding. If you loved the last of us 1, and you have an open mind as to what fate may lie ahead for certain characters, I think you’ll very much enjoy the last of us 2. If not, that’s ok, but as someone who was extremely invested in the first game, I loved this one even more, and although I came out of this one crying (I actually did), the fact that it could elicit such strong emotions is why I think this game deserves a 10/10.

It is not perfect, the last of us 1 wasn’t perfect, no game is perfect, but the storytelling, gameplay, and characters proved to be an astonishing and powerful experience.

I will never forget this experience, and that’s a great thing.

P.S. As far as the controversial “diversity” choices made in this game, I did not feel like it took anything away from the story. It is not shoved down your throats by any means. And I say that as someone who thinks that “forced diversity” just for the sake of diversity is nonsense.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. First things first: Joel deserved to die. It hurts to see such a developed and complex protagonist get killed off in the way he did, but after the events of the first game, after he doomed humanity in a bloody massacre, he had only one fate left for him. That being said, the important part isn't even that he died, it was the effect it had on Ellie, supplemented on the flashbacks given throughout the game. Immediately after opening herself up to forgiveness after what he did, she lost him in the most brutal was possible, starting a seemingly endless chain of revenge and regret. All that only to realize how emotionally draining the path of vengeance can be.

As far as the supposed agenda goes, Ellie was shown to be lesbian even in the DLC to the first game. This was no new development, and was a simple continuation to established story. Lev's revelation of being a trans male was a subtle, yet profound commentary on the issues people today face. Just because something is included in a game doesn't mean it is part of a hidden political agenda. If that was the case, then every gaming company would be actively encouraging violence or even murder. The inclusion was a subtle, refined, and well deserved nod to the LGBT community.

It was more than interesting to play a modern RPG with no freedom of choice. From Witcher, to Red Dead, to Life is Strange and beyond, every modern RPG has had some form of choice via action or dialogue to imbed the player into the protagonist, and I don't think many people took too kindly to the very real train of thought that Ellie took throughout the game. I for one, am thankful for this change of pace. I cant imagine an impressionable and bloodstained teen reacting very differently to her surrogate father's death, justified or not. I completely understand why she did what she did after looking back on all she ever knew in this hellscape of a world. Abby, on the other hand, lived in our pre-apocalyptic world, and because of that had a similar view to us, the players. I found myself understanding and agreeing with every choice she made, even if I hated it. It was a brilliant way of developing a complex villain. Every choice made by every character was tailor made for that character, and letting the viewer change that with choice would tarnish the purity of the development. This was storytelling at its finest.

The gameplay was simply fantastic. There were parts that I found myself frustrated, yet mesmerized due to the difficulty. The action was real. It was dangerous. It was to be avoided if possible at the threat of guaranteed death. It fed perfectly into the hopeless setting painted by the brilliant graphics and storytelling. Different factions of enemies had vastly different ways of hunting you down, all requiring their own unique approach on medium to high difficulties. The subtle notes left throughout the map further expanded on the hopeless mood of the setting. Finding random elements in the world to trigger full on story scenes gave it a near open world feeling. I wish more games would venture out to create unique experiences like this.

While it may have been among the most depressing games I've ever played, it was undeniably incredible and compelling. 10/10 would recommend.

The discussion that it brings to the table it immaculate. It’s a beautiful game and has so many complex layers. There is a ton of hate out there right now due to how this game was made but I just want to commend Naughty Dog on one the most complex stories I have been able to experience. It is definitely not an easy story and it is not for everyone. However, in a world where we are fighting for social justice this is just the kind of story we need. This game takes you on a necessary emotional roller coaster, where you see that everything is gray. You will not find clear-cut lines that tell you who are the good guys and who are the bad guys. You will not see what is right and what is wrong in this game. This game shows you why both sides (and there are many sides between Ellie vs Abby, Scars vs Wolves, and so forth) believe more than anything that what they are doing is right and justified. This game shows you that the world is grayer than you think and sometimes to see what is actually right and wrong in a situation you have to consider the other side as well as your own. We are a world divided just like in this game. We are republican’s vs democrats. We are Christians vs non-Christians. We are mask wearers vs non mask wears. We are Trump supporters vs non-Trump supporters. We are just always fighting and divided. We never take the time to understand the other side and see where they are coming from. To see that in this world there is no clear-cut lines pointing to what is right and what is wrong. Every situation is different just like every person is different. This is the type of message we need to be having in this divided world. We need to take the time to walk in each other’s shoes and see the situation from another perspective. Only then can we truly respect each other and make a difference in this world. So again, Naughty Dog thank you so much for taking the risk that you did on this game to give us a story that we truly needed. Am I sad and emotional? Most definitely! But the journey was amazing, thoughtful, engaging, and so damn realistic even for a zombie-type game. Showing us that there are no good guys and bad guys but just people. And people are messy, complicated, and very imperfect. Expand

    Absolutely a masterpiece.
A game that, as media, has shown that gaming in fact reached its maturity in storytelling.
The story belongs to the artist, to its creators. People want to take ownership and control over the story. Childish way to face the world. The traditional gamer community wants only the conventional power fantasies with heroes with happy endings. Once more: childish.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I don’t typically believe in 10 star ratings, as it means that the experience was literally perfect. However, I’m giving this one full marks to offset some of the idiotic reviews/takes that other posters have made. In actuality, I would give this one a 9.5/10. I have seen some valid criticism of the game, but far more **** from people who either missed the point, did not play it, or only watched a few cutscenes. Pros: Stellar graphics and environments - Ellie and Abby traverse Jackson, Seattle, and California throughout the game. Each area is unique, and offers the player ample opportunity to explore their surroundings. Jackson is snowy and mountainous, Seattle is dark and dreary, and Cali is bright and warm. This diversity in environment allows the player to see how various parts of the United States fared during, and in the aftermath of the pandemic. Excellent mixed gameplay - slow paced exploration allows Naughty Dog to flesh out their characters through conversations. That’s right. If you only watched the leaked cutscenes, you have missed out on hours of dialogue that give better context to the characters actions. Heart pounding encounters with infected and human adversaries offer many different scenarios to mess around with. AI will often treat the same scenario differently if another attempt at a section is made, allowing for a degree of replayability. Combat is absolutely **** brutal, and can often be unsettling. Enemies will be blown apart by explosives, human victims will gurgle their last breaths after being stabbed in the throat, and every once in a while a wounded adversary will beg for their life. While this isn’t the goriest game I have played, the violence is realistic to the extent that it adds to the horrifying nature, and atmosphere of the game. New infected!:

Shamblers are disgusting and dangerous, and a new “hunter” type of enemy can often be found in waitin for Ellie or Abby, leading to some decent jump scares. I won’t say too much about the boss encountered in the basement of the hospital, but I will say that it is horrifying, difficult, and ultimately rewarding to kill. ... The Story: I’m not going to go into too much detail, but The Last of us II offers a complex, thoughtful, and devastating story. You will see fan favourite characters, both old and new killed in gruesome
fashion. One of said deaths (I’m sure most of you already know who) leads Ellie on a quest for vengeance, which ultimately leads her down a dark, and arguably indefensible path. Many people claim that the game boils down to “revenge is bad”, but I feel this is an oversimplification. If you read between the lines, you will find themes of empathy, understanding, and ultimately forgiveness. This is partly the result of a bold decision made by naughty dog, in which the player takes control, and learns the story of the games initial main antagonist. After the final scene, it is abundantly clear that there are no “hero’s and villains” in The Last of us’ universe, which is a nice change of pace from other story driven games, which tend to be more black and white. If you go into this game open minded, and allow yourself to understand the mindsets of certain characters, you will be treated to an excellent story. Cons

A couple inconsistencies in the writing: While I overall adored the writing, parts of the middle section were slightly sloppy, and dragged a little bit. For example, when you are on the island when the wolves attack, you are needlessly thrown into the middle of the fighting. At this point in the story, it would make far more sense for the player to avoid this area at all costs. Abby is trying to save Lev And Yara, yet she ran into the thick of battle?? You initially arrived on the island on a boat, which was stashed in a remote part of the island. This boat would have been perfect for a getaway, but the protagonists insist on pushing into the city to steal another boat. Levs excuse was “there is fighting back that way”. Isn’t there way more fighting around the boats you are trying to steal in the city?? I understand that Naughty Dog wanted to show this set-piece, as it served as a larger scale example of the horrors that often accompany an insatiable lust for vengeance. However, the way they led the player to this scenario seemed a little sloppy, and poorly thought out. Overall: This game is undoubtably one of my all time favourites. If you are willing to set aside your own biases as to what you think the story should be, you will likely get far more out of it.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view.

    H I S T O R I A

    J U G A B I L I D A D:
    Calificación: 9.9

Manejaremos a 2 personajes principales; Ellie y Abby. Jugar The Last of Us ll es toda una experiencia.

    A P A R T A D O G R Á F I C O:
C O N C L U S I O N E S: Lo que hace grandioso a The Last Of Us ll son sus personajes tan humanos. It is getting a lot of hate, some for justifiable reasons and much for unjustified ones, but the emotional experience coupled with the sensory brilliance demonstrated by Naughty Dog makes this game one of the best in a very very long time. No game has called on such devotion and such emotional investment from the player. In the words of Troy Baker : You long to love this game selfishly and for your own reasons but the game refuses to do so. It forces you to love it selflessly, and no game has ever demanded so much from a player. While the user review divebomb has cast an ugly shadow on this beautiful game, I believe time will show how The Last of Us Part II is a game for the decades. Expand

This game is a masterpiece. Look where you look at it.
The gameplay, the graphics, the map designs, the **** advanced artificial intelligence that this game has, everything makes it a masterpiece. That they kill so many characters and that in the end it reaches nothing gives us an incredible message, revenge is a dark road. Whatever they say, TLOU IS A MASTERPIECE

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. SPOILER!! (Note: I am a massive fan of the first game)

I honestly came to love and appreciate the game. Neil Druckmann and his team did an absolutely stunning job with this game.

Yeah I also hated the fact that I had to play Abby but, throughout her play she reminded me of Joel. No, I don't agree with what she did to Joel and I hated her at the beginning too BUT I came to understand that she blamed Joel not just for her father's death but that there was no cure and that she was left without the Fireflies too. Like how Joel softened up for Ellie, she softened up for Lev and Yara. Joel tortured people in the first game to find Ellie and she tortured Joel. We saw parts of Ellie's, Joel's, and Abby's lives. We didn't see if Joel went after the military to avenge Sarah, Tommy said that he and Joel did horrible things and he wish he didn't survive those early years.

Personally, I believe you should not hate the game just because of Abby. The entire plot is about revenge and never knowing or understanding the other side of the situation. The game showed the true harshness of surviving in a post-apocalyptic world, that you do all that you can to survive and protect those you care about. Revenge is a game where you never win it all but, you can lose it all.

P.S. that last scene where Abby is carrying Lev and Ellie is looking at them from behind reminded me of Joel carrying Sarah.

This game made me cry harder than I ever had in a long long time. I just finished the game (unlike every review here **** the game, I played it ) It was rough, emotionally, but justified. My only real criticism is towards the end you get tired of searching every little corner of every room for supplies ( I played on the harder difficulties, If you play on an easier mode it's not as bad ) People like to come to review sites to have other peoples words form their opinions, All I can really say is if you can afford the game, and want something fantastic and gripping. Abby is just another Joel. Ellie recognized it when she forced Abby to fight for Lev. That's why she didn't kill Abby. She just fulfilling her promise with Joel.
4th finger = ring finger, Dina.
5th finger = the promise between her and Tommy. Ellie has lost both of them.

This game was hard to play. It often was not fun, was incredibly stressful, and felt unfocused in its plot.

BUT Act II really redeemed this game. It brought back the well-rounded characters, intimate moments, and relationship based narrative that TLOU captured so well. Also, this game was SO BEAUTIFUL. the graphics for this game were off the chart, and the sound design was spectacular.

I left this game questioning what i was supposed to take from it; was it a reflection on violence, love, vengeance, or the interconnectedness of human life, or possibly a critique on spirituality? Maybe all of the above.

Either way you may not enjoy playing this game, but it will likely make you feel something, which is why we all loved the original TLOU.

I connected with new characers, characters I swore could never be redeemed in my eyes. Some of those new characters even became some of my favorites in the series. People so hate a particular character in the game, as if he was the personification of true evil, and not just a woman with an appearance that does not satisfy 80% of cis male. "Make Abby More Feminine." Why should she be so good for you? When you look at such a reaction not so much on the game as on the characters in this game, it seems ironic that the “last of us” are people who are ready to see interesting things in script decisions and perceive the characters as developers conceived. This is a game, the best thing that has happened to the gaming industry of all time. The whole resonance from the game is caused by a feeling of fear that human hatred and prejudice to the game character says a lot about the society itself and the people with whom we communicate every day, without even knowing how cruel they may be in their opinion. The Last of Us Part II is the high point of the PlayStation 4. The plot is controversial, but the game is the incredibly addictive adventure of Ellie, from which it is impossible to pull away from the opening and to the very end.

Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.
