When I saw all the negativity following Last Of Us II I thought something actually went wrong but apparently the reality of the situation was people hated the reality of the situation. Realistically this was never going to have a happy outcome. It didn’t even have a happy beginning and you could only be so lucky to have the story cut off before you could get taken on the rest of the journey. When Last Of Us Part II was announced in my heart I already knew what the deal was and a lot of people wanted to think they also knew what the deal was as well. Actions, no matter how insignificant they may seem to you, will have consequences. This is a world where our heroes can very easily be another person’s villain and vice versa. However, not everyone is going to get to go out like a hero no matter how much in your heart you feel as if they should. It’s why a lot of people talk down on the movie Glass. People couldn’t handle the reality of that situation either so they’ll try and say that the “story was bad” or how “characters were ruined”. Finding something to blame so they could justify their feelings. Don’t come to the Last Of Us for a typical good time. You can, however, come for the good genuine moments amidst a very bad time. That’s The Last Of Us, that’s always been The Last Of Us and it isn’t the time to start getting all shocked and feeling betrayed now when you realize your dad isn’t Superman. It’s great that people love and feel so strongly for these characters but they shouldn’t let that blind them to what this world is. These characters aren’t going to act the way you expect them to or hope that they would. To barrow the tagline to Days Gone, this world comes for you and this world is bigger than Joel and Ellie. The Last Of Us is bigger than Joel and Ellie. Now I said all that to say this.. This is a beautifully done game that is getting lost in all of the negativity. It hurt my heart and attacked every part of my soul but even so I absolutely appreciate the journey they took me on. It was an honest one. One I’ll never forget even though part of me wishes I could. That’s a pain that’s never going away. They did an amazing job with this game from top the bottom and in closing……Ow.” Game Paul was fun the horror aspect were truly terrifying it did drag towards the middle but then immediately picked up again.     Genuinely one of the best games I have ever played. Riveting and intense. Graphics are amazing, violence is brutal, and the story grips you. My girlfriend is a bit of a gamer, and begs me to play it so she can watch.

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I want to give the game an 8.5 and since the game is getting review bombed, I'll give it a 9 to represent that I truly believe this is a (relatively) great game.

    This game follows the SPIRIT of the original and I think that runs through every aspect of it. Having played the original a multitude of times on all difficulties and to pursue 100% completion on both ps3 and ps4, I can say I am familiar with the original and what I am comparing to in 2.

    Pros:
    I'm gonna say this now: the story is better in its own ways, in my opinion (will share some gripes/observations later). I believe if you were to read this as a standalone novel or watch as a standalone movie, especially with different characters, the story is compelling, often well-paced, and a bold step to take for the series.

    The combat is improved in many ways. You have more options to deal with many encounters, albeit encounters seem to be bigger, so you still have to play smart and manage resources, at least on the harder difficulties.

    New struggles to deal with within encounters. New enemy types primarily, yet also some (subtle) changes to how known enemies react, particularly in recognizing fallen companions. On this note (which I think is the best part) many enemies, when they see a companion fall will call out a unique name. Subtle improvement, but very powerful. It also ties into the main story's themes.

    Cons:
    The story spends maybe more time than is necessary on a particular character. While I enjoy the overall gameplay mechanic and MOST of the time I appreciated what the intent was and felt the impact, I got to a point where I just wanted to move on, that the point was made.

    Additionally on the story, I had hoped the game would end two chapters earlier. It didn't and the final two chapters were frustrating to have to go through... at first. I think there was a solid (albeit bleak) payoff that ALMOST made the epilogue, so to speak, worth it.

    Other thoughts:
    Per pacing, it moves MUCH slower than the original. The opening is bombastic to set the stage and remind players of the stakes and then it SLOWS considerably. I did not mind this slower more methodical story-telling, and I really think it lends to the overall atmosphere and beauty of the game. But take from that what you will.

    LIGHT SPOILERS (although apparently everyone but me read the "leaks" and decided the game is bad before they played it): This game is not about two people trying to survive in a post-apocalyptic world. This game is ABOUT that post-apocalyptic world and what it does to people. The first game's brilliance is in how it used it's setting and journey to redeem an old man who lost a daughter and show her growing into an adult despite willing to sacrifice herself. The side characters were special (for their time) albeit a tad under-developed. They helped the team and lent to poignant moments, but they were not really important.

    In TLoUP2, the message is about how everyone is dealing with the same issues, that everyone has people who they care about and that ANYONE can do terrible things if brought to it. Joel's redemption arc in the original was not about making him a good guy, it was about him finding something to fight for again. And audiences (me included) loved it. Yet in the end he slaughtered hundreds of people trying to find a cure for millions just to save Ellie. TLoUP2 is about the consequences and the never-ending cycle of revenge, and the costs.

    I'm just gonna include it here, both because I know many hate the topic, and also because I am a cis, white, hetero man and can only comment as such, but representation, of all kinds, is pretty spot on here, I believe. In my playthrough of the original leading up to release, I noticed that NONE of the AI characters were female presenting except infected. Just weird. The NPC enemy generator in TLoUP2 has EVERY combination of male/female and skin tone and that's a pretty cool detail. Also in regards to representation: I mean Ellie has definitely been gay since the first game (all but confirmed in the DLC). Additionally, the trans "story-line" isn't even a main plotline... it's just the reason why an important character is where they are when they're there. And if it were a main plotline... I guess this wouldn't be the game for you if it bothers you so much.

    All-in-all, a powerful and solid game to follow-up the original. Is it as good? I'm still processing that myself. But I highly recommend you find out for yourself, because, at the very least, I believe you could have a wonderful time, just like I did.    … Expand

This game goes beyond anything I've ever played to deliver a beautiful, BRUTAL, immensely emotional experience that grips you tightly and doesn't let you go until the credits start rolling. Being a HUGE TLOU fan, I knew that ND would deliver, and they did that...and so much more. Ashley's acting as Ellie is top-notch, and really grabs at your heartstrings, or makes you shiver in fear( whatever her mood at that moment)The story is truly amazing, and complex, and it makes you think...A person can be a Hero to someone- but be a Villain to someone else. I love that the game touched on that- especially with the addition of the trading cards to push that notion. I'm saddened to find out that a lot of TLOU fans aren't able to really look at the bigger meaning of the plot, or understand the immaculate storytelling this game has to offer. I thought they'd be more complex than that. Another 10/10 and GOTY in my book. Well done, ND, well done.… Expand

    The Last of Us Part II was an incredibly sad journey. We must remember that we arent here to choose the story for Ellie and Joel but experience their story with them. Lots of people didnt like the choices made by the characters but it's not your story to tell. Just to experience. Phenomenal game with great story telling I highly recommend it.

    People are not able to get over little things rather than experiencing the Entire game And have a look at the bigger picture here what it all sums up to . A solid 10 for me!

    The game is really a masterpiece once you finished it, you will only realize it once you FINISH it and FEEL the very end of the game. It made me realize that "Damn, every negative comments about this game is not true" when I finished it myself.

    SPOILERS CONTENT

    Abby got what she deserves, there is no need for further bloodshed if you really are a good person.
    The fact that Ellie sees Joel in a flashback while she's killing Abby means that she CANNOT BRING JOEL BACK and that Ellie's had enough of deaths already, these bad user reviewers did not understand that part. I mean PETER PARKER in SPIDER-MAN 3 let Sandman go didn't he?
    What the **** all these people that they want to always kill almost everyone that's messed with them.
    Naughtydog simply tells you to be a real person in this game. Yes it is ****ed up for what happened to Joel but if Abby is the main protagonist on the first one, for sure you will be hunting Joel too, wouldn't you? All I can say is these negative user reviewers are just weak in the heart, they always want the protagonist to be invulnerable to deaths, well Ellie is the real protagonist since the first one.    … Expand

I wish I could have a little bit more time playing with Abby and start liking her before she kills Joel. That would make a much bigger impact on me as a player and I wouldn't hate Abby as much as I did. I still love the time I had playing her caracter. Thr gameplay is perfect, not too far from the first onr with a couple of amelioration too make it spectacular. The graphics are amazing, especially the caracters designs. The journey was still great for me and I truly hope that one day I could revisit the world and the caracters of The Last of Us. The last thing that I found disturbing is the development of joel's personality. When you think about what he did during the forst game, all the traps and enemies he killed or escaped from,he sould have see Abby and her froup coming and not fall into her trap, like in the first game when the bandits wants to take is card by faking an injury. So long Joel and Ellie, I'll keep a good memories of those game and just hope to be abble to see more of that world someday in the future.… Expand

    The last of us part 2 is about hate, just as Neil Druckman said, and for you to understand what this hate is all about you have to complete the game, put yourself in Ellie's shoes, how far would you go? There is no hero in this story. Congratulations to Naughty Dog for being able to express how mankind would survive the apocalypse in the most realistic way.

    The gameplay remains rock solid while story draws you in like any other. Best looking game of this generation period. Can't say when cut scene ends and where gameplay begins. A lengthy game too to boot so value for your money.

    This game is simply amazing! He is able to approach topics about right and wrong in a unique way. This game is not just about killing infected, but about how far you go to get revenge on something, and how you can understand your opponent's side. Without a doubt the best game I have ever played.

The gameplay is solid, the graphics are solid, the score is amazing. We as gamers (mostly) dont give a **** about about the gay stuff, thats fine. WE absolutely HATE Abby, HATE. THAT is why people don't like your game.     I know a lot of people don't really enjoy the game, personally I had a blast with it. I don't think it's amazing story wise but the gameplay was really fun imo! I'd say check it out for yourself if you're up for it.

    I waited for this game since it was first announced in the works and tho the story may not of went completely they way I would've liked im not disappointed even in the least its an absolute tear jerking masterpiece and I'm so utterly in love with this work of art thank you to those who put the time in to make this you are so amazing

    At first I thought I would give up on this game....

    After finishing the game I feel absolutely worth the time. Beautiful world, amazing gameplay, complex characters and great stories, almost better in every aspect from part I.

    No matter how angry you feel after first few hours, plz don't rage quit and finish the game. It's totally worth it.

    O jogo é incrível, jogabilidade, gráficos, trilha sonora e enredo/história. Tomaram decisões corajosas, o que apenas aumenta o valor da sequência de The Last of Us. Parabéns a todos os envolvidos, uma sequência digna. Maravilhoso!

You get designs that are out of this world. This game looks amazing. Then, the story takes a lot of things from the first game and just disregards it. Joel's character development from the first game gets taken and thrown into the garbage. He make decisions he would have NEVER made in the first game. Its a revenge story that ends in not allowing you to get revenge? The characters feel poorly written compared to the first. If this wasn't a "The Last Of Us" game, maybe it wouldn't have been taken so negatively. The fact is that it IS a 'The Last Of Us" game where a foundation has already been built and the writers smacked their whole audience in the face with this new installment. Take this games graphics and re-write this story because this is something that shouldn't be cannon to the original. Actually, just delete this game and never make a new "The Last Of Us". La verdad me parece un juego bastante bueno, no una obra maestra pero es muy bueno, y eso se ve en la muerte de Joel (aunque se merecía una mejor muerte), porque si moría Dina simplemente íbamos a apoyar a Ellie en su viaje, pero con la muerte de Joel es distinto ya que el juego nos transmite esa rabia y tristeza que siente Ellie al verlo morir, y es por eso que es tan bueno, porque nos transmite las emociones que siente la protagonista, lo cual muy pocos juegos logran. Otro punto fuerte del juego es su jugabilidad, la cuál es muy similar al primer juego pero con algunos detalles como el botón para esquivar que lo hace todo más dinámico y rápido, también tiene personajes bastante buenos como Dina y jessie los cuales aunque son un poco esteriotipados , tienen sus puntos fuertes… Expand

Y eso es lo que dicen todos, en mi opinión no es un mal juego debido a qué tiene momentos impactantes y conmovedores que te hacen reflexionar sobre si las acciones que hiciste anteriormente eran justas o no, y el final del juego te deja entender un mensaje que es el siguiente: "Ellie busco venganza y lo perdió todo" Es un final triste la verdad, pero eso no quiere decir que el juego sea malo, de lo contrario es una obra maestra. No entiendo el hecho de que hayan personas criticando el juego solo por la muerte de un personaje, aunque sí, es verdad que Joel fue el protagonista del primer juego y que hombre, creas que no que te maten a un personaje con el cuál has jugado la anterior entrega y que muera en las primeras horas de la segunda entrega a manos de una mujer musculosa y teniendo una muerte ridícula es un poco bruh, y creo que este es el motivo del hate que esta recibiendo el þitulo ya que muchas personas lo están juzgando sin apenas haberlo jugado ellos mismos y solo por esta parte de la historia me parece un poco estúpido.     El juego es impresionante en cuanto a narración y ambiente. El mapa es enorme y las mecánicas mejoran al 100% las del primer juego. Los personajes son manejados de forma magistral y tienen una química natural, el escenario y éstos personajes se sienten vivos y son creíbles al 100%.

For the story, it was definitely not what I expected (for the record I tried to know the least about the game before going in). I didn’t expect Joel to die like that, but I felt it. I felt it deeply hurt. I understood why Ellie wanted revenge at the beginning. It didn’t feel right that she brutally murdered Joel and got away with it. Progressively, I saw the point of view of Abby. Then, I wasn’t so sure if I wanted revenge. When I arrived at the part where Abby saves the Seraphites children and goes back to the aquarium to see her dead friends that Ellie had killed. I asked myself if Ellie was even the ‘’good’’ one, The violence at one point was just meaningless. I kept asking myself why is this still going? Why is the WLF burning down civilian villages? For what? I didn’t know which would ‘’win’’ the fight in the theater. I didn’t know which one I wanted to win to be frank. All I knew is I wanted it to stop. I want Ellie to have her lesbian ranch paradise. I want Abby to find her people and to be happy with Lev. I didn’t care that Ellie had travelled a long way for that. I didn’t care they would’ve lost a lot for nothing. Just stop it. Right there, I had understood the moral of the story. 10/10 Best storyline in a while.

    This game is art ... I absolutely love it. The story is captivating, the fact that I have to play the villain is shocking and new. This game is dirty, frustrating and great. I like it a lot. In my opinion this is a masterpiece and gives the player a new and never seen gameplay. Of course it is a challenge to cope with all the violence, but as said before - it is art and I love it.

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. People rate bombing this beautiful game haven't even played it, are going off spoilers from the internet, or are butt-hurt because a character they cared about isn't around anymore so they didn't bother to play past the first hour.

    Before the spoilers hit (which were relatively easy to avoid I might add) it was obvious from the get go based solely off of the small bits Naughty Dog gave us, that there would be a major character death early on. We knew it was a revenge story, we knew it would be bloody and brutal. What did you expect? Regardless of how predictable the main plot if the game would be (which is was, why are you surprised?) It is still a wonderful game, and the perfect way to bring the Joel/Ellie story from the first game to a close.

    The game is meant to humanize your enemies and villainize your heroes. Its shows how complicated revenge can be. How it effects everyone involved, and how it rarely turns out to be what is actually best.

    Don't listen to the negative reviews. Play the game, and build your own opinion around it. If you loved the first game, you'll love the second. Simple as that.    … Expand

    Just finished TLOU Part 2. I tried to explore as much as I could and it took about 25-30 hours. To get the most out this experience, I recommend taking your time exploring and engaging in all the optional conversations. Also, listen to some of the NPCs, they often mention cool stories.     My rating:
    Gameplay: 10/10. The improvements made in the second part might seem minimal but they make the gameplay much more fun and smoother. Some examples of these improvements: being able to jump, the character being more agile, more interactive environments, combat system is more "reactive". Also, the stealth mechanics (and to some extent the gameplay) resemble that of MGS5.
    Story:(This is the divisive part, I'm keeping this spoiler-free) I personally found the story to be intriguing, and very emotional. I felt like I understood the motivations of the characters to do what they were planning to do. I'd say that you can think of the story in 3 parts: the lore (involving the fungus cordyceps and the factions in this world), the main characters from the first game, and the new developments created in TLOU2. The lore was expanded and I really like the direction they took with it. Regarding the characters from the first game, the direction taken was something I did not expect but it made sense to me. The new "developments/characters" were also surprisingly interesting. I was able to follow the story quite easily even though I've heard some people had problems following the timeline. If you're used to movies from director Quentin Tarantino, then it should be easy to follow the story. I really enjoyed the story despite some of its sad moments. 10/10
    Graphics: 10/10.
    Survival Horror: 10/10. If you're a fan of survival horror, then this game is a must. It has some of the scariest experience(s).

    SPOILERS! Yo fui uno de los desafortunados en toparse con los leaks en Twitter, al verlos me sentí asqueado y muy decepcionado. Empero, a pesar de eso, decidí invertir mi dinero para conocer el por qué de cada decisión creativa y narrativa para poder compartir mi opinión, ya que considero que la moda actual de tirarle mierda al presente juego sin haberlo experimentado es ridícula.

    No vengo a hablarles del apartado técnico, gráfico, del gameplay, del sonido, de la banda sonora o de las interpretaciones del elenco, dichos aspectos son excelentes, de lejos lo mejor de esta generación.

    The Last of Us Part II me ofreció una de las experiencias más crudas e intensas que he experimentado dentro de un videojuego. El juego es duro, cruel, muy violento y oscuro, no teme presentar momentos y giros de guion que pueden ser considerados completamente descabellados o de mal gusto.

    Esta segunda parte juega con el tema de la venganza de una forma agridulce y muy compleja, tomando dos perspectivas distintas que nos deja en claro los estigmas, el costo, cuantas personas inocentes pueden salir afectadas y la ceguera durante tu travesía en busca de hacer justicia por mano propia.

    Por un lado, Ellie busca venganza por la brutal muerte de su figura paterna, pero a la vez se le adjunta su sentimiento de culpa por no haber tenido un momento de paz y reconciliación con Joel, cada muerte y asesinato que ejecuta la afecta psicológicamente pero su sed de venganza es más fuerte. Por el otro, tenemos a Abby, quien asesina a Joel por la muerte de su padre.

    Al tener ambos puntos de vista, nos damos cuenta de la realidad: ambas mujeres buscan la supervivencia, tienen amistades, pareja, buscan estabilidad y lo mejor para su gente. Esta venganza no es como de las famosas cintas de Hollywood, aquí no existe un villano, son personas comunes y corrientes que se encuentran en constante peligro por otros grupos sanguinarios y peligrosos.

    El final -muy polémico- me pareció brillante porque representa el cierre del círculo de la venganza. Ellie se da cuenta de que puede llegar a perdonar a Joel por una decisión tan brutal que afectó la esperanza de toda la humanidad, entonces, ¿Por qué no perdonar a esta mujer que buscaba lo mismo que ella? Ambas compartían el sentimiento de venganza y su ceguera provocó la muerte de varios amigos inocentes, si esto continuaba, ¿quiénes y cuántos serían los siguientes afectados por ese deseo?

    La última escena confirma el perdón de Ellie a Joel, dejando sus cosas, sus recuerdos y su guitarra atrás, para dar paso a lo siguiente y al fin comenzar a buscar una nueva esperanza.

    The Last of Us Part II is the high point of the PlayStation 4. The plot is controversial, but the game is the incredibly addictive adventure of Ellie, from which it is impossible to pull away from the opening and to the very end.

    Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.

    If you loved the original for its great characters and well-paced story – stay away from this game. However, if you’re aching to sink into the depths of depression, or just want to cut some throats and burn some zombies – Part II will deliver. [Issue#247, p.72]
