The Last Of Us Part 2 poderia ser bem mais interessante se o enredo tivesse sido melhor trabalhado. Expand

Some of the events were just in the wrong order and would have made sense if it was organized differently. The ending of the game was disappointing as it was inconsistent with previous 20 hours and would have made sense if the player had the choice to make by the end of the game. Some of the combat felt repetitive and outdated, The world and graphics are gold standard. No bugs encountered on my playthrough. Expand

Killing Joel was a huge mistake, and the writing was just bad. And honestly I know this game won GOTY 2020 at the Game Awards, but for pretty much everyone, the real winner should've been either Ghost of Tsushima, or Hades. But I'll admit that you guys deserved the Audio Design award at least for this game. But everything else I say no. Sorry Naughty Dog, but I have to pass this game. But don't worry because I still love you all and I don't hate none of you. I just basically think that killing Joel was a huge mistake for the franchise. Expand

A bad narration with some accidentally made good scenes and a dishonorable death of a character. Certain scenes feel very shoehorned and one revelation even suffers from trying to be super politically correct so the prancing around it with the dialogue by the oh so tolerant characters makes it very hard to watch the scene and properly deduce what they want to say because they expect you in the first place to have the same view towards it so it becomes very confusing with its presentation. Normally I am against the "this game is too long" argument but I have to agree. It is not terribly long but it does not fit the game to be as long as it is. Expand

Unfortunately the game has become heavily review-bombed (on both ends), diminishing the value of user scores significantly. In my opinion this is a shame as user scores used to be something I always payed attention to when buying games.

The story of the game is very good. The creative direction it took is absolutely justified considering the ending of "Last of Us I", where the protagonist effectively becomes the antagonist of the story pretty much wiping out an entire faction/hospital dedicated to helping humanity fight the virus. Creating a sequel around the consequences of Joel's actions there is a really good starting point. Playing characters from both sides adds depth to the story and you'll start questioning the actions of your previously favourite characters soon enough - without either side acting out of character.

The gameplay does not differ much from "Last of Us Part I". Stealth is still massively rewarded on high difficulties as you can get heavily punished for little mistakes in open combat. Lower difficulties do not punish you for brute forcing your way through the encounters as much. Open areas are almost always accompanied by dialog making them less monotonous while exploring or searching for collectibles.
The upgrade system has not changed much

My biggest problem with the game is the actual length of the game and replay value. You can finish the game within 15 hours and since it is heavily carried by the story and character development a second playtrough (needed for platinum) felt really boring. It probably gets replay value after putting it away for a year tho'.

    História da Abby nota 9
    História do jogo nota 5
    Gráficos nota 10
    Jogabilidade nota 8
    NOTA FINAL DO JOGO 6,6

The discourse around The Last of Us Part 2 went really well didn’t it. On one side we have the mainstream critics with their heads so far up their own arse they are unable to properly critically engage with a game like this and ended up just giving it 10s. Then on the other side we have a large chunk of the gaming community being a bunch of immature children unable to deal with a piece of media/art. The truth is The Last of Us Part 2 is a well made and ambitious game. But unfortunately the developers may have bit off more than they could chew and the game is a bit of a mess that didn’t land right.

The most important thing to say about The Last of Us Part 2 is I am so glad they tried and that they were allowed to try. Most games in the AAA space are so safe. The fact that nobody stepped in at any point to say just give us a safe, predictable sequel and that Naughty Dog was permitted to do their thing is excellent. Naughty Dog could have just given us a basic journey across the country with Joel and Ellie on some simple revenge quest but instead they aimed higher and tried to deliver a grand, ambitious game about hate. I really hope the backlash to this game doesn’t cause future AAA games to be even more risk averse because that would be sad to see as AAA games are already, typically too frightened of interesting characters/stories, challenging and/or new gameplay, real puzzles, bold style, old genres, etc.

The most obvious thing is this game looks phenomenal. This is as good as it gets on PS4. The attention to detail is staggering. The number of unique objects and animations in this game is ridiculous. I cannot stress enough how impressive it is. I don’t think anyone else is even close to being on the same level as Naughty Dog. All aspects of the presentation including visuals, attention to detail, atmosphere, sound, acting performances, how well it runs, etc, is all top notch and if this was the only thing games were rated on then maybe a 10/10 wouldn’t be so silly.

The gameplay is exactly what you expect if you have played the first game. It is solid and enjoyable but not exceptional. They make a number of sensible improvements over the first game, like going prone to hide under things and to crawl through grass. I really enjoyed that the areas are larger and more vertical which allowed combat encounters to be more dynamic and free. Resources are just limited enough to keep you changing up your weapon and approach. The combat is very violent and visceral and the AI reacts pretty well to what you are doing both verbally and mechanically. I had a good time jumping out of stealth causing some horrific carnage and then diving back into stealth. The environmental puzzles felt more varied this time too. However the game regularly wasted my time and the gameplay just isn’t enough to keep me coming back for multiple playthroughs. It also feels like a missed opportunity. They could have done more with the gameplay especially with two playable characters.

Now for the games biggest issues; story, characters and pacing. First of all this game is a bloater, god damn why is it so long? An editor needed to come along a just cut so much fat off this game. The pacing is a complete mess and most of the time feels too slow. It starts off way too long and slow. Then there are two middle sections both of which are a little too long, then a long lead up to the end and then the actual end. The returning characters are great but the new ones are just nothing. I still remember Tess, Bill, David, Sam, Henry, Marlene and even Ish from the first game. But I can’t remember the names of these side characters and I don’t care enough to look them up. The story is a mix of highs and lows there are some excellent moments and I really liked the ending. But there are plenty of moments that just do not land at all and so much that I just didn’t connect with. The whole thing is too contrived as well.

The other big issues I have are no multiplayer and no replayability. The Factions multiplayer was so damn good in the first game and I know a lot of people won’t understand it but for me it was one the best multiplayer experiences ever and a big part of why I bought the remaster. It hurts that it just isn’t here and still to this day there is no new multiplayer released. I also can’t bring myself to play through this more than twice, which was enough to get the platinum trophy, even though I finished the first game 7 times. It’s too long and bloated and wastes too much time and the gameplay isn’t enough to pull me back in.

The Last of Us Part 2 is a must play for anyone that played the first game and if you haven’t then what are you doing here, go play the first one. You really should play this for yourself. Don’t listen to the mainstream critics or the angry gamers. Play it and form your own opinions. I think it is a really good but uneven game and I would still easily recommend it.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The Last of Us has so far been my favorite game I've ever played. The story was amazing and Joel and Ellie's relationship made me care so much about the characters. And then it was ruined by this game and FREAKING ABBY! The choice to kill Joel in the beginning of the game was a very odd one especially when people still cared about their story. And as time goes on they try and show us all these things about Joel and Ellie's relationship at the settlement but it doesn't do much considering he's, you know, dead! However, moving past this, I think the game is highly underrated. Despite its flaws in story, I think the overall game is pretty good. The gameplay is still pretty good, the stealth... exists. I think the overall game is pretty good. There's one part that I want to talk about though: Abby. Abby is supposed to be Ellie if she was... well, "evil". Abby and Ellie are the same in many ways except Abby moves on after killing Joel. Ellie however goes on this mass killing spree but it goes crazy once you have to play as Abby for 12 hours. This is my least favorite thing in the game. I shouldn't have to be forced to feel sympathetic for a villain. I wanted to kill Abby as soon as she swung a club at Joel but NO! We just have to feel bad for Abby because all of her friends are dead in this back and forth between her and Ellie. And don't get me started on Abby's relationship with the tiny children that I can't remember the name of. I'm supposed to feel really bad for these kids who are apart of a freaking cult. Like why! I think this is Naughtydog's way of showing that Ellie and Abby aren't so different. In the end nothing freaking happens. Abby almost dies and Ellie abandons Dina and her child so she can go fight some woman that almost murdered her. Ellie then spares Abby because she realizes that it's "not what Joel would've wanted". Like IT TOOK YOU THAT LONG! If we were going to go through this whole game then why are we only doing this now?

Okay enough complaining. I've already said what I like gameplay wise, but I've just complained about the story. I do like the story of the game there's just a lot of odd points that annoy me. Anyways, I think having Dina come with Ellie was a good idea. It gave Ellie and the player someone to care about and also built up their relationship. I think it would've been stupid to have Ellie not be with Dina and then at the end have Ellie and Dina be super close.

Okay, I've been complaining a lot and yes I get that, but in reality, I do love this game. It's not the greatest sequel but I think it showed that The Last of Us was never about Joel. It was about Ellie and her story the whole time. This was a good sequel, not a great sequel, but not a bad one.
So in conclusion I think The Last of Us Part 2 is a very underrated game that deserves a bit more love, even if all I can focus on is the negative. (That's just because I have a complaining problem after 2 years of complaining on a podcast)

The only thing I can't complain about is the graphics and visuals. Even as of 2023, this game is stunning. Also can everyone stop arguing like this is the worst thing ever? I understand if the risks the story takes don't work for you, but don't trash the developers and cast for these risks or for being too political. Overall, this game isn't great but it also isn't bad. The gameplay is very solid. Guns, melee, stealth i.e. all the combat is very satisfying and fluid for me. However that's kind of all there is. Story sections with characters walking and talking and then combat sections. It's nice that there's more combat in this one and less puzzles but it's story feels so forced.

I could see what was coming ahead and when I hoped to be surprised I was not. They force you to spend time with the opposing side to make you feel for both of them however I think it just wasn't done naturally. It feels forced like they are cramming Abbie and her very odd personality down your throat. Showing her pros and cons for a very long section of the game where all I wanted was to get back to Ellie, the character I had followed throughout the last game and expected to do so in this one. If we had smaller Abbie sections, I think it could've hit us much better but forcing 8 hours of Abbie actually makes me feel less for her.

The game itself is a technical achievement. Incredible visuals, awesome combat but the experience is let down by the forced story moments that outstay their welcome. 5/10.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Extremely controversial game. A lot of misandry and tons of feminism. Story, writing, direction and characters are garbage. On a technical level it's perfect, amazing graphics, gameplay, sound design, soundtrack and cinematography. One of the most hated, controversial, spiteful and sadistic characters ever does something horrific, unforgivable, inhuman and unacceptable in the beginning and it sets the tone for this miserable and bleak journey and destination you have to go through for many hours and grind through to get to the conclusion.

Sympathizing and empathizing with a vicious ruthless murderer is not really a concern of mine neither is playing as that person for the vast majority of the game (You play like 50% as Ellie, 49,9% as Abby and 0,1% as Joel a brief horseback riding no combat or anything). Joel is widely known by real gamers and fans as one of if not the most legendary and beloved characters to have ever existed in video game form yet he gets treated like crap here.

Ellie sides with a rude, ignorant and a jackass hostile bartender in a dance (who tells Dina that she is a lesbian in a very vulgar and an attacking way) over her father figure, protector and savior Joel. Side characters feels very much like filler, I didn't care for Jesse, Yara, Lev, Manny, Owen and Mel. Dina is helpful and probably the only character who isn't completely mentally unstable. Tommy is as reckless as ever and is a lot like Ellie in this title vengeful and hateful.

Some cameos were neat and some funny minor characters hop into the plot but don't serve a lot of purpose other than cannon fodder for the so called "hero protagonists". Ellie guilt trips and berates Joel a lot in this title for no reason other to give him past trauma and making him feel low about himself. You can tell who Naughty Dog wanted you to root for and think who's a monster even if it's completely untrue, false and a lie.

Odd romances, uncomfortable and an awkward sex scene that happens in a boat after Abby tried to attack and potentially kill Owen over an argument and a disagreement they had which turns into a heated lustful banging because Owen pulled Abby's braid. No nudity shown except for Abby's and Owen's nips.

Almost feels like forced sexual abuse (maybe rape) on Abby's part, completely takes advantage of Owen and she makes him at the same time cheat on his pregnant girlfriend secretly, discreetly and be disloyal to her without Mel ever knowing. Mel discovers nothing about it when the story is finished it's never talked about. That's something only a horrible and an unlikable, terrible and an egotistical person would do. It's weird.

Similar romance happens between Dina & Ellie early in the game except they are partially clothed private areas covered and Ellie forgets to be on watch and patrol for walkers and unwelcomed strangers (like Abby's group) because of it. The intimacy is very forgetful. The writing is very confusing and doesn't make sense a lot of the time.

Shock factor plays a big role unfortunately which is most of the time lazy writing considered especially when it's been overused to the point that media shouldn't be using it as much at this point. Almost every male gets treated badly in this and is either shot, brutally murdered or used as bait courtesy of Neil Druckmann. Combat is improved from previous game, upgrading is an unique addition to your arsenal and polishing your weapons.

Cinematography is fantastic almost to no cuts in either cinematics or gameplay itself. It's very fluent. Graphics look amazing and realistic, feels like watching a live action movie it's beautifully made. Gustavo is incredible on the banjo as usual and most of the sound design is very cool and often shocks you at how good it is.

For a sequel it's massively disappointing. They changed way too many things in the narrative and the fact that they have the audacity to take out by far the best character in the first 2 hours of playing is insulting and disgusting to the fans and the players who have anticipated this sequel for years. Naughty Dog shot themselves in the foot in the worst possible fashion and kind of ruined this franchise for a lot of folks. If there's a Part III coming up I'm not terribly interested mainly because of how they treated a beloved heroic character from its predecessor.

Neil Druckmann is a beta cuck who needs to look himself into the mirror and think "What have I done?" or this series is buried deep in the ground regardless of how great Abby and Ellie are doing. It feels nonsensical, disturbing and cruel to do this to a loyal fanbase and supporters of the company.

So many questionable things about this game and a mixed bag overall. Many positives and many negatives which leaves it in a mediocre dramatic completely over the top package. If they don't remake this game properly I'm not interested in continuing in a third part. They can't just pretend nothing happened here and ignore everything.

Nowhere near as good as the first, but still good. The gameplay is fantastic. Even on normal difficulty it can get really challenging. There isn't always a lot of ammo and shooting both people and infected has never felt so fun. The stealth was also so fun and so filled with tension. The story is where this game kinda falls apart. There are a lot of plot holes and contrivances. I also thought that the game was kinda in the wrong order. You first play as Ellie and then you play as another character and you play through the same days as you did Ellie. If you rearrange the scenes, it becomes a lot less messy. At first, the direction the story took seemed baffling, but over time, I grew to understand why they took the route they took. Another problem is that many of the character deaths don't have that huge of an effect on the story. Other than that though... Idk, I didn't really hate this at all. This was great. To me personally, plot holes don't really ruin a story for me, unless there is nothing holding the story together and I wouldn't really say that counts for this game. I liked this a lot and if you don't, that's fine, but don't get mad at me just because I liked a game you didn't. I liked this a lot and even with the huge story problems, I still couldn't not like this a lot. Hot take, I know. Expand

The reason why TLOU2 was a shot on the foot from a studio that is masterclass on storytelling:

    - The Last of Us Part 1: We don't even know Joel, but we know that he is a worker on a normal world. World that goes kaboom and the first random persons appearing on the game (a couple with a kid) Joel said "don't stop" to Tommy. From here you started to build a character that don't trust no one and this isn't even in the apocalyptic world we will see.
In another scene Joel sees a man asking for help and he immediately knew it was an ambush.
Joel kills numerous people in Part 1, so he knows that is ass is asking for revenge of someone.
    Joel uses fake names.

    - So Part 2: In middle of the game Abby said she got a lead, suggesting that they don't know where they are, and in any part of the game is showed they know how Joel or Tommy looked like.
But Abby and the group found the town, Joel saves Abby. In the middle of a runaway Tommy had time to make introductions and said their real names. This don't make any sense, Tommy learned from the years in this world to don't do that, he was a firefly, and killed people too, and knew that Joel killed many people.
They go to Abby's hideout and things start to be very bad in terms of contradict character build:
1 - Everyone or many of the Abby's group are with guns in hand, Joel and Tommy leaved theirs on horses.
2 - Joel stands in the middle of all group, a guy that don't trusted a couple with a kid, killed hundreds of people and know how ambushes work.
3 - Tommy again slipped is name, but don't says Joel's name.
4 - If this, for you, is not a shot in the foot of ND, or is a spit on one of the best characters in industry of gaming this is:
5 - Joel standing without a gun, surround by a group he don't know, helpless if something happened said his real name "Joel".

ND, or should I say, Neil Druckman don't give a **** about Joel's character, if this don't prove to you that, this should:

He makes you play half of the game, or even more with the person who killed Joel. But if this is even not enough for you, put it in this perspective: Imagining play half of the game with any daughter, mother, wife, of some random npc or character Joel killed.

Believe when I say that TLOU Part 3, if it comes out, will be a failure. Because now ND and Neil Druckman can't put Abby's character on the trash can, so or you will have to play with her again or they don't bring her in the third game and that will be another shot on the foot because you literally made a game around her and now you toss her out so people will question "why do you did that in Part 2 and know Abby isn't even here?"

I'm not saying that Joel didn't deserved to die or that I wouldn't accept that he dies. But you do it without breaking is character core and definitely don't force fans to have to play half of the game with his killer.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The game is somewhat opposite of the first in terms of momentum. While the first builds up tension, emotional moments and ends in a huge climatic sequence, the part 2 builds up momentum up to the middle of the game, when you play Abby. From then on, it feels an unnecessary addition, as if the producers needed to justify the death of Joel. Joel had lots of reasons to die, and no less in a horrible way, so the idea to emphasize Abby's story feels kinda bloated.
On top of that, the final sequence is so utterly absurd - somewhat Die Hard vs Rocky - that it becomes a parody.

The game could have been great, even with Joel's death at the beginning, but the producers wanted to create a convoluted story with the idea that "nobody is truly bad/good", which is fundamentally wrong and childish.

Gameplay is good, graphics are good, sound is really good.

But the story, lost me halfway through and I could not get back to the tension building of the first half.

I tried very hard to find some way to like this game, and I was successful, but just barely.

The Last of Us Part 2, though graphically beautiful, is not a logical continuation of part 1. It feels more like a fiction within a fiction, a deliberately structured by-the-book revenge allegory that ultimately delivers a relevant social message but at the cost of mangling the plot themes and character development events of the original game. In fact the hardcover placard contained within the limited edition written by Druckmann himself alludes to such a plot contrivance.
The question I suppose, is why? Why did they choose this path for part 2? Why castrate the characters and story of one of the greatest games of all time just to deliver an admittedly artful social commentary? Based on the new characters, events and story as it all plays out this game should have been a standalone entry in an original universe. I think it would have done great on its own. It makes no sense whatsoever that ND cannibalized the The Last of Us characters and universe to create this game. It’s not like they needed the pre-sales dollars (apropos the notoriously deceptive pre-release advertising) to fund it. Their reputation alone would have guaranteed their budget.

I have to conclude that the answer is simple: Colossal miscalculation. I don’t think the ND dev team deliberately set out to eviscerate The Last of Us storyline potential and anger the game’s fans. Somewhere along the development trail the plot analysis -vs- target demographic ball got dropped in a significant way. While trying to create an impactful work of art they lost sight of their number one mandate: serve your audience. Of course they had to know or at least suspect that the final plot line would earn the ire of a portion of their loyal fan base. But I don’t think they realized the extent of their error until after the massive numbers of negative user reviews started rolling in. By then it was too late.

It is true that there are lots of gushing 9/10 star reviews out there. Many are reactionary to the negative ones and thus act as balancers; the informed reviews are coming from multimedia critics more attuned to the allegorical architecture than to the fictional world in which it takes place. And yes to the game’s credit it IS beautifully presented with great acting, visuals and gameplay. There are also some moving and interesting flashbacks. Ultimately however, the good elements of the game are overshadowed by the infuriating overarching main plot.

More disheartening - in spite of the game’s gut-twisting opening scenes which set up the revenge plot - the writing team could actually have saved the story to some degree by providing us with a satisfying, contextually consistent ending. However, instead of remaining true to the violent nature of the game universe and giving us the closure that Ellie’s character most certainly would have demanded, they opted for a formulaic ‘high road’ finale that leaves the player staring at his monitor in stunned disbelief. Given the amazingly high body count over the extended play through, the absurd ending sequence was the loudest WTF moment I’ve ever seen in a game, and I’ve played a LOT of games in the last 30 years.

After finishing, I mulled it over for a few days before writing this review and settling on a medium score. In this at least, Druckmann’s team succeeded in their stated goal of engaging the player to examine the revenge conundrum. I did, and while I agree with the real-world synopsis that revenge-seeking needlessly perpetuates a cycle of violence that ultimately harms everyone it touches—The Last Of Us is not the real world. It is a game and it depicts a world in which humanity is on its last brutal march to annihilation. ND created this world and the gameplay delivered it: no quarter, no compromise, ‘endure and survive.’

So…everything else remaining the same, maddening initial plot premise and all, here is how The Last of Us Part 2 SHOULD have ended:

‘ We don’t see the fiery explosion of the awkwardly thrown Molotov as it engulf’s Ellie’s battered enemies. There’s no need. Instead we see the fire reflected in Ellie’s eyes as she watches briefly, perhaps feeling a quick stab of sadness for all the death - mixed incongruously with a weary satisfaction.

As the image of her face fades with the waning flames, we hear Ellie say in a half whisper, “that’s that.” ‘

Had they at least thrown their core fans this small bone, or something similar, I think their user reviews would have been much higher. As they left it, well….If they’ve got any savvy new hires up at ND, I sure hope they’re putting in a sh*t ton of overtime thinking up ways to retcon this albatross out of the canon and win back some of their fans. Indeed, with their shiny new HBO contract, they have a golden opportunity.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. TLOU1 got maximum points from me. Why didn’t TLOU2 get it? There are three main reasons for this:
    1. The way Joel died was just horrible.
    2. Playing as Abby was a forced activity that I would not have wanted to do.
    3. Story.

This game feels different compared to the first game. It does have some new game mechanics compared to the first game (for example crawling and dodge possibilities), but nothing very different. Infected behavior is a little bit different and the sound they make is also refined. It takes time to get used to, especially if you've just played through TLOU1.

I remember in TLOU1 trying to get past the doctor without harming him, but the game wouldn't allow it. It was just frustrating. And now Joel paid a high price for it. Joels death was too cruel for me as I loved his character and played with him over 10 hours in the first TLOU game. I felt like I was ready to stop playing the game after that scene. But I forced myself to play to find out what would happen to Ellie.
On Ellie`s gameplay, you don’t get powerful weapons (for example shotgun and plantable bomb) if you don’t search every corner and every house. I can only imagine how hard the game is without these.

Playing as Abby went on and on, felt like never ending. I noticed that playing as Abby on normal difficulty was significantly harder than playing as Ellie. It was fun that Abby had a dog and I got to use it a few times at first, but that was about it. Most of the time the dog was not with Abby. WLF always keeps dogs with them, but somehow Abby only had it in the beginning. I don’t get it. Fighting Tommy, aka Joel's brother, was especially uncomfortable as Abby. Tommy was very good with his sniper rifle and could easily take Abby down as he took already the whole WLF team down. I absolutely did not want to play that part, and it felt so wrong. Elli and Abby's fight in the theater was particularly strange. Elli was so much stronger (shotgun, etc.) that she could have easily killed Abby. But the game didn't allow it!

There are a lot of flash backs, and I repeatedly lost track of where I was and what I was doing. I've never seen so many flash backs in any game than this one.

So, Ellie is gay and is dating a woman, Abby is like a man, and there is a dedicated chapter to transgender girl/boy. What did I just play? It does not make any sense at all. Abby had sex with Owen but for some reason didn't get pregnant. Owen had sex with another woman (Mel) and quickly got her pregnant. You can't fail to notice these kinds of strange things.

If you have played TLOU1 and are thinking about playing TLOU2, I recommend not playing it. Joel did what he had to do with all those who wanted to hurt Elli. This game is not worth ruining the beautiful memories of Joel.

This game is overly bleak. Also, switching characters half way through kills the pacing. The same story and goal (of hate destroying people and leading to ruin) could have been done better by arranging things differently.

If you could define divisive, it would be this game you’ll see many reviews both positive and negative but I think that there are a lot of aspects of this game that are worthwhile while others are merely disgraceful to what the last games president set. Most of the Eli stuff was good as well as the relationships she had with every character that was with her butt cutting it in the middle of the game to go to. Abbi did my interest in the game so severely that I barely even finished it. You see many people whining about any LGBTQ representation, but honestly even if you care it’s not over bearing at all it’s not treated any special way. It’s just treated normal. The ending was also very lackluster. Expand

It's a good game, the story maintains the level of the previous story, but I don't like the character design, it's much longer than it should. And it doesn't help as they have introduced a new character, it could be better.

I avoided all spoilers for the sequel and went in trusting the team at naughty dog to deliver an outstanding experience once more with this new entry. I could not believe how badly the team approached this project, given the amount of time it was in production. Here are the main issues I have with this game. 1. Joel’s death early in the game was a huge shock and the set up was completely out of character for both him and Tommy. 2. The writing and dialogue between characters is of a much lower standard compared to the first game. 3. The new character Abby who you’re forced to play as, after killing Joel is a real low point. They try and build up a relationship with the player to show her side of the story and reasons for killing Joel. This feels forced and goes on way to long. 4. This redemption arc goes out the window when she starts killing all the wolves members who she knew and was a part of for years. 5. Tommy gets shot in the head and some how pops up at the end of the game. 6. The pacing of the game at the end feels like it will never end, it’s dragged out way too long, 7. The way that Tommy spoke to Ellie at the end of the game was so out of character it was laughable. I’m giving this game a 5 out of 10 because of the graphics, which are outstanding. The reason the majority of people loved the first game was because of the story and relationships between characters. I really wanted to like this game. I have never written a review before and just thought I would try and give an honest opinion on why I think naughty dog missed the mark with this game. Expand

I thought the game was over, not a bad story, good gameplay and no the game was not over. Yeah, we see also Abbys story, we understand her motivation. It is ok. But should we play the same game again with Abby? And after the story of Abby over, then we play the same game again with Ellie. Playing guitar and babysitting scenes are extra boring. After a while I thought maybe I should stop playing and watch the story from YouTube. Good graphics, perfect controls, good gameplay. Not good and not bad story. 7 points.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Hearing fans say this game is a complete 'Masterpiece' makes me think the TLOU community is completely blind or delusional. Let's start with the Pros, the gameplay is fun and straightforward, similar to the old game, and it's nice to play as Ellie more and see her fighting as she's grown up now. The game is beautiful, from the scenery to the world, the character's faces, the weapons, and everything. The game is a masterpiece... graphics-wise. Abby is a proper protagonist that truly makes you feel anger while experiencing the game as Ellie. Let's continue with the Cons. The game's new characters are awful. We are forced to talk with characters who are boring and soulless on both sides of each character (Abby and Ellie). Only once in the story did I find any side character that seemed interesting, and that was Lev. All the other characters felt like just empty puppets. I had a deeper connection with a Clicker than I did with Dina. She was only there to give Ellie a love interest and to help her move on... and she didn't even do that as Ellie goes back to get Abby at the end. Jesse was an odd character as they lied in the trailer about his location (It was Joel in the trailer and Jesse in the game). His only existence in the game was just so Ellie had a kid to take care of to help her get past the trauma from Abby. Only 1 new side character remained interesting and that was Lev. He had an interesting story and a good connection with Abby that helped us feel for both of them and we were able to understand both of these characters and relate to them. The others we have no clue about, they just appeared from thin air with no weight to them to help us relate. They were purely there to just stop Ellie from continuing the cycle of hate. Narrative. What a sloppy way of continuing a story. Now, the game is about Ellie, yes, but, because it is about her doesn't mean you have to replace everything from the old game. Joel's death was known by everybody that it was going to happen as he needed to pay for his actions and death with the consequence, but to do it the way they did by him sloppy giving out his name and accepting these new random people into a house on a snowy mountain. That isn't Joel. Joel isn't the type of person to suddenly warm up and trust everybody as you can see throughout the first game. Just as the apocalypse is starting (With Sara) Joel is already only looking for himself and his family, abandoning the random family with a child. From Surviving 25 years in the apocalypse you're telling me that he warms up to people in only 5 years? 5 YEARS? Even after 20 years, in the first game, When Ellie and Joel leave Bill's and encounter the scavengers. The scavenger cries out in pain to help and Joel, with no hesitation, revs the engine and drives straight into him. The equivalent of what Joel did in TLOU2, in this situation, is as if he got out of the car and said to the scavenger 'Everything Okay?'. It doesn't make sense in a million years. There was not even a funeral for Joel, we saw him die brutally just to see a black screen, and then to a grave, which felt like disrespect to both the player and the character. Even ignoring this, they could've vastly improved the game's structure by putting each Flashback first for Ellie and Joel to help us reconnect with this world after 7 years of delays and waiting. Abby's story was important but, was unbearable, forcing us to play a character who killed a beloved character is just cruel. They could've even made us play as Abby first then Ellie shows that Abby kills Joel. That would've made the game much more bearable to play. With how everything was structured in this game, it felt pointless, from the start to the end, everything that we did in the game felt like nothing apart from everybody in the game and the real world being depressed.

The game was unbearable for a lot of time. Wish I could understand this is a masterpiece from a beloved franchise.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Honestly, the game is really good. The graphics are impressive even 5 years after it's release, especially when it comes to face expression and details. My only problem with it is the story, and NO, I'm not talking about Joel being killed in the first 2 hours. My biggest problems with it's ending.

Basically after going a rampage for about 15 hours looking for Joel's murderer, Ellie decides to have a family with her girlfriend, Dina, and her son. If you ask me, that would've been the perfect ending for Ellie, where she realizes that revenge wouldn't make her feel any better, and how all that **** is behind her now, but she decides to go after Abby again, making the game 3-4 hours longer than it needed to be.
All of that culminates in Ellie fighting Abby, letting her go, going back home and realising her family moved away.
All of that makes you feel that all of the time you spent on the game was completely thrown away. I even thought the game would still carry on after that part because it just doesn't feel like an ending at all if you ask me. But it's still a good game at the end of the day.

Initially, the game was a 4/10 from me. I went into the game to give it a genuine chance and played with an open mind. Sure the choice to kill Joel in the opening hours of the game was jarring. I thought it was a perfect catalyst to offset the story and gave the right motivation for Ellie and company.

The juxtaposition to Abby's story was stark contrast and perfect parallel to Ellie's descent into madness. I just wasn't too impressed with some of the decisions made in the story, and some of the character moments and dialogue were weak in comparison to the original.

Standing on its own, segments and dialogue between characters weren't as exciting and wasn't as engaging, I didn't have too much attachment to Jesse or Dina throughout the story. The new side characters introduced in Abby's section of the game were interesting and a breath of fresh air, but didn't have enough screen time to develop before certain story events happen.

And I get the praise for graphics, but inevitably graphics are only going to improve and look better in the next few years, so I don't tend to get overly excited over graphics. But it is a pretty game.

The gameplay is fun, but nothing crazy innovative. The map layout for each encounter keeps combat engaging and exciting at times, and the hide-and-seek type of combat is fun. As well, I do like the section of the game where it straight-up turns into resident evil.

Overall, I respect the themes and concepts that Neil and the team at Naughty Dog worked to achieve, but I do have to knock it down a bit for its execution. The gameplay and graphics are what makes this game worth playing, but delving into a story-driven drama where the story is the weakest part of the affair does dampen the experience.

The game has good gameplay, and it's worth trying out, especially if you buy the game on sale, the game's story is not the best and could be better.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. ok. After replaying last of us 1, i get it now. I understand last of us 2.
the story is good. yes it is good. is it enjoyable ? not all of it
the story is nowhere near as good as TLOU1
combat is better but the plot is so weird man
the whole time playing as abby i actually didnt mind but when she got back to hunt Ellie down i really hated it and i dont get why we have to fight Ellie. speaking of Ellie i loved seeing her descend into madness trying to take revenge for Joel but i loved that she ends up forgiving Abby and lettiing her inner demons go. THAT IS A GOOD STORY FOR WHAT WE ARE GIVEN. the level design is overwhelming and really weird sometimes which is why i do not want to replay it cos i just dont want to play with a headache most of the time again. CAN i just say that is is so boring to force myself to play through meeting Abbys friends and all already knowing they are dead..... pointless Abby narrative, and i almost forgot abt the Seraphites cos they DONT MATTER AT ALL! with that said i can understand what the story is going for and i can somewhat appreciate it just not all that much..... abit sad

It has serious flaws in the story and the narrative, but the mechanics, graphics and overall quality of the title are well above average.

Solid overall game but the story is below average in my opinion. Naughty dog cucks would have you believe it’s a masterpiece

Since this game is story heavy and carried by its story. I give its story a 0 but its gameplay with all the other stuff 5.

The Last of Us Part II is the high point of the PlayStation 4. The plot is controversial, but the game is the incredibly addictive adventure of Ellie, from which it is impossible to pull away from the opening and to the very end.

Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.

If you loved the original for its great characters and well-paced story – stay away from this game. However, if you’re aching to sink into the depths of depression, or just want to cut some throats and burn some zombies – Part II will deliver. [Issue#247, p.72]
