When there is violence, it's very gory
The QTE prompts are more forgiving

    Cons:
    The story (specifically the ending)
    Not scary
    The decision system/ impacts

    spoliers below

Little hope fails to bring an interesting plot. It works for the first half of the game, where you will spend a long time walking and walking and walking. They do this to attempt making tension, but in actuality it's just boring. Characters, who although are slightly better than the series' predeccesor, still suffer from being plain. Taylor, for example, will repeatedly make player choices redundant. After a bus crashes in the game, the team is left stranded in a town called Little Hope. There, Taylor will suggest waiting by the bus. It doesn't matter whether or not you make her "change" her mind, because she will always announce that her idea is better than anyone elses. Another character that they should have developed further is Andrew. Andrew is... nice. There is not much to say about Andrew, since he doesn't actually impact the story, until at the very end, when it's revealed that everything that has happened in the story has actually been a hallucination INCLUDING THE CHARACTERS AND THE PLOT!!! Why make such a intriguing story, only to dump it out the window with a lame and childish ending. This is especially concerning, as the game is part of an anthology, and the previous game also had the same ending (hallucination). This makes me not want to get the next game, because I can already guess the "plot-twist".

This is my biggest complaint with the game. None of the decisions actually matter. It doesn't matter if John dies, because guess what? He never existed in the first place. For a game about desicions, there is not a lot of consequences and different branches of playthroughs.

My second biggest complain is the multiplayer mode. I don't know about online coop as I've never tried it (and won't), but shared story, in which you assign each person as one character, is a total design failure. Angela, is an elderly lady that you can control in the game. She's a great doesn't actually exist character, but sadly is gone from the game for about 70%. And when she does come back, she can die really quickly. This is extremely unfair to those who have chosen Angela to play as, since they will only play as her for a tiny bit of the game. Worse, during high action scenes, it becomes pointless to even select a character. Some scenes have two characters running from danger and the game just switches characters. I played this with my brother (I was Taylor, he was Daniel). He was running from a demon, hitting the generous QTEs, when the game just switched to Taylor. Although she survived, it made me wonder as to why suddenly Taylor's fate relied on my brother... if I picked her?

However, I don't want to leave this review on a sour note, and thankfully I DO have some good things to say about it. This game's graphics are beautiful. They're really realistic, which I think is idealystic for a horror game. Also, the soundtrack is awesome, though I'm not sure if I like their "O death" song, as it was made for their other game Until Dawn (not part of the anthology), and I don't really see a point for it to be in the game, other than nostalgia. This game's QTE's are more meaningful (before the horrid end).

    Overall: 4/10

Little hope brings you a decent story, lots of glitches and sub par scare scenes. I give credit to the studio but this one of their lineup is probably at the bottom. Game had alot of holes and left me scratching my head at the end, Entertaining game but lack of anything else. Wait for it to come out on sale.

graphics looked pretty good i guess, the jumpscares got old quick. The story is so damn convoluted and the ending felt pointless. No choice really matters in the end. Maybe if you play it and get a different ending you might leave satisfied, but I have no desire to replay it

The first game was boring and uninspired. But I had high hopes for this new chapter, with the whole witch and little US town thing. The game actually starts with a bang, I was excited. And then, pitch black. Ever wondered what's like to play a game and just hear the audio? Well, that's Little Hope for you. 90% I was pretty much just checking my own reflection on the tv, even with the brightness settings on 100%, drapes closed, nothing works.

Also, the narrative itself is so messy. it's like:

11:59 - oh, sh*t we are lost and need to get the hell out of this place!
12:00 - we need to investigate these witch trials and understand what happened!

It just makes zero sense to me. It feels rushed, filled with plot holes. It was hard for me to get into it, to care about the characters and their dialogues. But it's like a cheesy scary movie and I'm fine with that. The major problem, in my honest opinion, is the brightness settings. Jesus Christ the game is almost unplayable sometimes. Oh, and from time to time, the characters don'r even have their light sources anymore (phones, flashlights) which makes exploration so much better. I have no idea how this was approved. I'm all for a dark, scary atmosphere, but this is plain stupid.

Hope the developers keep working on these games, though. Like I said, I really believe they have great ideas. But please, just make it actually scary and playable. I want to be able to watch what I am playing.

I really enjoyed unraveling the story, I was shocked by the ending originally but I've come to realize that there is no reason for me to ever play this game again. i very much enjoyed playing man of medan over and over getting different endings finding different clues but no matter what you do in little hope the ending is essentially the same which is disappointing. i was also expecting the story to go back to some supernatural elements like until dawn instead of having it all in your head like in man of medan and considering that was their last game you think you would have slipped a few supernatural oriented games in between. The individual story lines seem completely disconnected and I never felt like my decisions mattered. Characters died kind of randomly and their personalities were all over the place, even within the scope of 3 sentences, it all felt like a bad dream that makes no sense. I guess that's what happens when the game is driven by jumpscares instead of the story, and you'll really trying to make the jumpscares frequent and shocking instead of trying to make the story add up. I honestly hope they focus on something else, ANYTHING else rather than producing a jumpscare in every scene. Because the storylines did have potential and the twist ending could've been emotionally powerful. Maybe next time. Expand

One thing that really gets me with these Dark Anthology games are the Faces>> Especially the female faces.. They are literally the only truly terrifying thing in these games. All the face look plastic and badly animated, but the girls get some special treatment, they are truly ugly and hard to watch. For a game that relies so much on character interaction its a hugh fail.

Had so much fun in the first 7/8ths of the game. Was a little confused but I figured a lot would be explained at the end. And then I reached the end and realized the whole game was a waste of time and nothing I did the entire game even mattered. The twist was stupid and confusing. They tried making it deep but really they just left half of the questions unanswered and ruined the whole game.

I am a huge fan of Supermassive Games, this ruined the trust I had in this company completely. Like wow, way to skip out on any good plot whatsoever. Used the same jump scare, and I'm not exaggerating about 12 times. I was so excited for this game to come out after playing all their other games, It totally let me down :( like absolute garbage. I’ve very much enjoyed the game. The dark and foggy setting has given it a Silent Hill feel. There are definitely a few scares along the way and as far as the story goes I thought it was very good. The thought the characters were much better compared to the last. Well done to everyone involved, I look forward to the next.

Absolutely awful game. Seems like it was made in a hurry, not enough budget, not enough creativity, and NOT ENOUGH PEOPLE LOOKING FOR BUGS BEFORE LETTING PEOPLE SPEND MONEY ON THIS GARBAGE GAME! I think an orphaned monkey living with elephants could make a better game. Don’t buy.

This second installment of the Dark Anthology was realesed 14 months after Man of Medan and the third installment House of Ashes, they're saying it will be out next year, means that the franchise will go downhill way more down than Disney Star Wars because the principal issue i believe it's about the time and routine they put. I was planning to buy the 8 games of the franchise but if this is routine then i reject it, i will buy them if every game is out at least every 2 years each one, no less.
And if House of Ashes, despite being a out only a year after turns out to be up in match with Man of Medan, then i will feel even more outraged 'cause means that Little Hope was a secondary work and yet it's worth 30$ like Man of Medan when should have a lower price for a lower profession of which they showed in Medan and Ashes.

Having played it through it twice (in single player & movie night mode) Little Hope is a big improvement over Man of Medan. Everyone had fun in movie night mode and the intriguing story kept everyone guessing. Loads of fun, like-able characters and well paced. The ending was a bit divisive - but besides that its supermassives best story yet.

What distinguishes Little hope from horror movies is that you don’t get to be annoyed about clichés or numerous bad decisions by its characters. No it is not a good idea to wander off alone when a killer is on the loose, nor should you explore that creepy basement by yourself. Yet, in this game, only one person is responsible for his bad judgement: you.

Little Hope is a return to form for Supermassive Games. After the somewhat slow and dry Man of Medan, Little Hope arrives with a narrative audacity and assured performances that place The Dark Pictures Anthology squarely on the top of the interactive filmic adventure game heap. With a rich, complex, and wickedly surprising narrative, Little Hope is well worth playing, despite some awkward moments and transitions.

Little Hope is a fantastic horror experience that really shows what Supermassive can do with the Dark Pictures series. Though it's a short experience and it exhibited a crash during review, it's a fantastically crafted thrilling drama with amazing characters who are genuinely fun to interact with. If this kind of game is something that seems interesting, don't pass up on this experience!
