little hope is really average with meh scenes and EXTREMELY slow walking. Controls are clunky and laughably funny to use, doesnt feel like you are controlling a modern game when playing it. Played this with a friend in co op mode and the game's reliance on quick time events and cutscenes really started to piss us off. The jumpscares felt like they were just ways to keep us awake while we were playing the game because most of the time it was really just watching cutscenes, walking around, and pressing circle or triangle at the right second. THAT IS NOT GAMEPLAY. The story was also massively convoluted and after playing for quite awhile i still do not understand who the main character is and what is their objective. It was funny at times when my friend was really excited to kill an enemy and we were both hyped to see him take that shot, but he ended up exploding one of the main characters' heads as a plot twist. Play when drunk with friends over at your house because you wont remember anything from the game anyways. Expand

Secondly, I would like to note the attention to detail, as the characters of the XVII century say. It's a small detail, but how it adds atmosphere. Yes, Little Hope is a passing project that has never been the Until Dawn level. But Supermassive Games is moving in the right direction. I personally liked Little Hope, especially the ending. It is partly expected for this genre, but again remembering the ending of Man of Medan, you realize that everything could have been worse. Expand

Nice atmosphere. Nice graphics. Mediocre sound when vlume goes up 100% during jumpscares.
    Casual controls.
A series of games where jumpscare lose its meaning. The biggest flaw of the series. Repeatable, boring, useless jumpscares.

I love Supermassive's games, but this one, for me, is very forgettable due to the fact that the story was made to feel very unimportant based on the ending, and the actions of the characters during the game seemed very strange at times to the point that it ruined the immersion for myself.

I like the theme of the game. The mystery of the town, the fog, the unease on every step of the way. Definitely the game for the Silent Hill fans. The town looks beautiful. Story is good and the length of the game is perfect. Just as it should be. I recommend you to play it with a good headset, so you can enjoy the game 100%.

Your mileage may vary in that regard.

The main issue with these games typically, for me, is the characters. The pack in this game is equally meh to Man of Medan. I like how they handled characters in Until Dawn, there was a lot of variation, a lot to like, and a lot to (intentionally) dislike. They really had you do different things and go down varied paths with all the characters. The first two games in this new anthology don't do those things nearly as well as Until Dawn did. A solid experience nonetheless.

This part is a little better than the previous.

Here we have a much more elaborated optimization, very nice graphic an visual options. The developers worked good about many little details of the game like QTE and the whole engine looks more attractive. Also the characters became a way more rememberable than before. The story itself is also more interesting than the story of the ship.

Little Hope is an enjoyable interactive soft horror movie, almost as good as the first one of this series. I much appreciate the 60 fps on PS5 and the full audio translation. But for some reason the HDR implementation is completely broken, so I need to switch to SDR for the whole game and let PS5 apply the Auto HDR, which looks a way better than the native one.

The atmosphere was so creepy and cool just awesome. The performances from Will Poulter, Ellen David, Holly Smith, Alex Ivanovici, Caitlyn Sponheimer, and Kyle Bailey were superb. The visuals and motion capture were good but at times the motion capture was off. The choice-and-consequence system is just super confusing and hard to figure out what is the right choice. The worst part and the downfall of the game is the twist ending which pretty much almost ruined the entire game. So, overall the game was good but no where near great but was pretty enjoyable gameplay wise. Expand

The motion capture was also quite rough for some reason, all of the characters seem to act like dolls and not look at each other half the time, which makes all of the interactions really stilted.

Overall the only real neat thing about the game was the demons chasing the characters. Without giving anything away, the reasons that they appear how they do and the overall design was excellent. It doesn't redeem much, but it did earn the game a few points.

we were excited enough for Little Hope after Man of Medan and man. this was bad. this was a bad experience. this may have been the least interesting, most frustrating experience i've ever had in games. honestly. **** this game.

the characters, from the outset, are awful, uninteresting, horrible people. them being bad people isn't necessarily anything that could ruin something-- hell, i do love plenty of things in media where the cast is made up of genuinely bad people-- but at least make them interesting. dad's a drunk, mom's mad, little kid's angry, teens are **** whatever. the story is bland. it's all a lot of whatever.

i could look past the blandness of the world and its people if the gameplay was worth a god damn thing but my god, not even at all. when you have a game that you have given a co-op mode in which people are meant to play characters and make decisions to further a story, a necessary thing to do in that game is give every character something to do. everyone should have some point to the story. everyone playing should have some time with the controller to either advance or **** the story up for themselves or others. Man of Medan did this, and nobody felt left out even if someone else ruined their day and got them killed halfway through. Little Hope falls flat on its face. two of us were left with minimal time with the game, while one or two people in our group had the lion's share of the playtime. i, personally, did absolutely nothing. my involvement in the playthrough was some walking and maybe 10 decisions, if that. meanwhile, other people spent an hour or two with the controller in their hand, possibly at one time.

this is extremely bad planning, and extremely bad writing. what's the point of the co-op if you can't make the cast involved? and it isn't even an issue of me making decisions that shortened my playtime, it was an issue of me getting my hands on the controller and having my entire turn be walking down a road and answering an inconsequential decision, and then passing off to the main protagonist who essentially takes up the entire runtime leaving everyone else scrounging for moments of playtime.

when that playtime comes, as well, there really isn't much at all to do. the game suffers from the exact same thing every game like this suffers from: by making an interactive movie, these studios are simplifying anything resembling "playing a video game" down to simply just quick-time events, mashing a button once in a while, sliding a stick left or right to answer something, and basic, basic, BASIC character movement in a linear, straight line. oh and sometimes you look at a postcard. enthralling. this is barely a video game.

it's one hell of a fall from the last title where it was kind of fun with a group. this left a bad taste in every single one of our mouths, including the one person who essentially played the whole damn game. the trailer for the next title drops at the end of this one, and it's out this month, and i don't think there's anything i want to play less after this experience than another Dark Pictures Anthology game. i can't imagine being excited for another one of these. boy, can't wait to slog through another bad movie where i hit X sometimes!

this could've been an interactive Netflix thing like they've been doing and it would not have felt an ounce ****ing different.

    it's bad.

The backstory is interesting and aptly told, and will keep you guessing until the third act. Also, the characters are believable to the point you care for them.

My main criticisms are the lack of a manual save system, a poor QTE triggering system (which doesn't allow any reaction time), a few but very clunky camera angles, and a really disappointing and nonsensical conclusion.

As a final note, the curator is the spitting image of Robert Patrick, and all his scenes are quite fun to watch.

    Final score: 6/10

Not a real Horror Game. This game is similiar to Nighttrap. Nothing for real Horrorgame Fans. Interactive story but still just 3 endings. Even Witcher or Cyberpunk have more

    spoliers below

Little hope fails to bring an interesting plot. It works for the first half of the game, where you will spend a long time walking and walking and walking. They do this to attempt making tension, but in actuality it's just boring. Characters, who although are slightly better than the series' predeccesor, still suffer from being plain. Taylor, for example, will repeatedly make player choices redundant. After a bus crashes in the game, the team is left stranded in a town called Little Hope. There, Taylor will suggest waiting by the bus. It doesn't matter whether or not you make her "change" her mind, because she will always announce that her idea is better than anyone elses. Another character that they should have developed further is Andrew. Andrew is... nice. There is not much to say about Andrew, since he doesn't actually impact the story, until at the very end, when it's revealed that everything that has happened in the story has actually been a hallucination INCLUDING THE CHARACTERS AND THE PLOT!!! Why make such a intriguing story, only to dump it out the window with a lame and childish ending. This is especially concerning, as the game is part of an anthology, and the previous game also had the same ending (hallucination). This makes me not want to get the next game, because I can already guess the "plot-twist".

This is my biggest complaint with the game. None of the decisions actually matter. It doesn't matter if John dies, because guess what? He never existed in the first place. For a game about desicions, there is not a lot of consequences and different branches of playthroughs.

My second biggest complain is the multiplayer mode. I don't know about online coop as I've never tried it (and won't), but shared story, in which you assign each person as one character, is a total design failure. Angela, is an elderly lady that you can control in the game. She's a great doesn't actually exist character, but sadly is gone from the game for about 70%. And when she does come back, she can die really quickly. This is extremely unfair to those who have chosen Angela to play as, since they will only play as her for a tiny bit of the game. Worse, during high action scenes, it becomes pointless to even select a character. Some scenes have two characters running from danger and the game just switches characters. I played this with my brother (I was Taylor, he was Daniel). He was running from a demon, hitting the generous QTEs, when the game just switched to Taylor. Although she survived, it made me wonder as to why suddenly Taylor's fate relied on my brother... if I picked her?

However, I don't want to leave this review on a sour note, and thankfully I DO have some good things to say about it. This game's graphics are beautiful. They're really realistic, which I think is idealystic for a horror game. Also, the soundtrack is awesome, though I'm not sure if I like their "O death" song, as it was made for their other game Until Dawn (not part of the anthology), and I don't really see a point for it to be in the game, other than nostalgia. This game's QTE's are more meaningful (before the horrid end).

Little Hope is a 4 our long interactive horror game that can be played solo or with a friend, here you play as a group of people after a bus swerves and crashes, youre all stuck in this abandoned ghost town called little hope with no way to escape.. the bus driver is missing and youll all set out to find him and also a way to find help.. while youre walking around youll ocassionally run into the little demon ghost girl, shell grab you and youre thrown into the past, as half of the game takes place in the 1690s witch trials.. and this are the best parts of the game.. I would have loved to play the entire game in this setting, the visuals, the acting, the charcters.. the eriness.. I loved when a ghost would grab me and take me back… and youre basically trying to solve the mystery of this little demon girl and why everyone in the past looks like the group of people youre with. Sadly the present day is so boring to get through… It was really hard to pay attention during these moments of basically just walking forward and interacting with stuff waiting to get grabbed again… that’s literally what it feels like, even when monsters are introduced to the game.. and for the first time playing a supermassive game, I felt like nothing had consequences, I felt like none of my choices ultimately mattered, leaving little to no replay value to be had here… obviously I don’t want to get into spoilers as this is a heavy story based game, but the ending here is the ending, it cant be changed, all that can be changed is the lead up to the revelation… really disappointing.
Overal though I loved this story way more than Man of Medans.. the parts of the game that take place in the oast, and trying to come up with the answer to this games story as I played made it all worth it…
Though the story is one you have little to no impact on this time and are more so just along for the ride… the story definitely saves this game from mediocrity.
    I give Little Hope

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. From somebody who unironically loved Man of Medan and also adores Until Dawn this game was a huge letdown. Not only for the twist that ruins any kind of replayability since nothing really matters and is extremely linear but all the characters suck. Daniel and Andrew are devoid of any personality, Taylor is annoying from beginning to end and is needlessly difficult for most of the game always trying to argue over anything. John and Angela are basically the only two I gave a rat's ass about since they were fun characters. Angela with her snarky comments but badass attitude by the endgame and John development from a scared old asthmatic man to a badass person who tries his best to help people (depending on your choices he can literally save every other character except Andrew). The plot was somewhat intriguing until the twist happens completely nullifying the experience since they basically do the same twist from the previous game but MUCH worse. Technically speaking this is a much better produced the game, movements are fluid and it's a bit more action packed than Medan but it just takes to much time to get started and first two hours are a bit of a bore (mostly due to Daniel and Taylors side of the story which is very boring if you don't really care about them). Overall it's fine I guess but the twist and the 3 of the 5 characters really makes me just not give this game anything higher than a 6. I also forgot all characters basically live or die by ONE decision you make in the whole game. Yeah, this game is really bad compared to Medan, Hope the next one is much better cause this one was not really worth it. Expand

A horror choice game, where choices give outcomes that don't make sense (because trait mechanics are never explained), and the horror is La Llorona movie levels of bad. The plot honestly was okay, it was convoluted and messy, but I thought at least the poorly wrapped present would have a nice bow at the top where it all meets. Nope, a twist that was such **** I don't even want to play another playthrough.

I could go on about the editing, the pacing, the voice acting, sound design, controls etc. But what's the point. Don't buy it. Don't play it. It's not worth the co-op play.

The irony is Man of Medan had a decently working system, if they just spend more time fleshing out that game, instead of investing it w.e. the **** this was. We could've had a subpar Until Dawn (instead of glitchy **** fest with MoM and lame cluster**** in Little Hope).

Voice acting is just bearable except the "past events" stuff which seems forced to sound slightly different but just comes off as bad.

The amount of glitches and bugs are the only scary things to be seen in this game, at one point on the PS4 my character literally fell off the map: link omitted per site rules.

Also never exit to menu from the game itself, it'll 90% crash on the opening screen with the curator in a never ending loop. Always completely exit out of the game, kill the app and restart.

You make decisions, move a 3d representation of the character in the clunkiest stuff this series has shown us yet and generally QTE your way to freedom. The only downside is it contains more of those "move to this position and hit the button in 2 nano seconds" towards the end, making it frustrating rather than enjoyable.

There is nothing new here, and the story isn't that good. Go get the stand by stephen king on kindle; read that instead. And if you wanna follow a bunch of college kids through murder and enjoy it, get "the secret history" either are way more enjoyable experiences than this.... thing.

I played the game in "movie night" mode, and during the whole game, me and my friends found the the story strange and confusing. We constantly burst out laughing as the characters reactions to supernatural and frightening experiences were very unnatrural and at points completely absurd. The only frightening thing in this game is cheap jumpscares btw. The quicktime-event based gameplay is not a dealbreaker for me, but in this game they put prompts that described the action the buttonpress would do before the actual button prompt appeared, which I found to be very confusing. Furthermore, in "movie night" mode, the whole point is for one player to play as their character throughout the game, but in this game they made it so that when my friend was playing, the game jumped to one action my character preformed, and then back to my friends character. Several times this almost killed of my character, as my friend made wrong choices and missed qtes with my characters. But turns out it didn't matter, because the ending (which is a "it was all a dream"-type cliche) makes none of the coices you make matter. It left me and my friends sitting there thinking "what was the point?". Expand

Had so much fun in the first 7/8ths of the game. Was a little confused but I figured a lot would be explained at the end. And then I reached the end and realized the whole game was a waste of time and nothing I did the entire game even mattered. The twist was stupid and confusing. They tried making it deep but really they just left half of the questions unanswered and ruined the whole game.

The first game was boring and uninspired. But I had high hopes for this new chapter, with the whole witch and little US town thing. The game actually starts with a bang, I was excited. And then, pitch black. Ever wondered what's like to play a game and just hear the audio? Well, that's Little Hope for you. 90% I was pretty much just checking my own reflection on the tv, even with the brightness settings on 100%, drapes closed, nothing works.

Also, the narrative itself is so messy. it's like:

11:59 - oh, sh*t we are lost and need to get the hell out of this place!
12:00 - we need to investigate these witch trials and understand what happened!

It just makes zero sense to me. It feels rushed, filled with plot holes. It was hard for me to get into it, to care about the characters and their dialogues. But it's like a cheesy scary movie and I'm fine with that. The major problem, in my honest opinion, is the brightness settings. Jesus Christ the game is almost unplayable sometimes. Oh, and from time to time, the characters don'r even have their light sources anymore (phones, flashlights) which makes exploration so much better. I have no idea how this was approved. I'm all for a dark, scary atmosphere, but this is plain stupid.

Hope the developers keep working on these games, though. Like I said, I really believe they have great ideas. But please, just make it actually scary and playable. I want to be able to watch what I am playing.

My main complaints are A) that there were some glitchy moments (not many, largely graphics issues) and B) that the big twist of the game was essentially the same as Man of Medan- I won't spoil it, but if you've played both games you'll know what I mean.

I'm not usually one to do the "Oh, ignore the bad reviews" thing, but I will say this: Much like Until Dawn and Man of Medan, Little Hope is not an action-packed game. It's a lot of walking, relationship/character development, and making choices that determine the outcome of the game.

Some people are into that, and some people are not.

Also, re: the ending: Much like Man of Medan, whether or not the ending comes as a surprise depends entirely on how many "Secrets" you've found within the game. The dots connect a lot easier if you've been keeping an eye out for the Secrets.

The game wasn't perfect, but overall I thought it did a good job.

I think the twist with Anthony imagining everything to try and cope with the loss of his family is 100% earned and made it worth playing, and made the second playthrough even better knowing how it is all connected. Way better than Man of Medan.
I have played this game 4 times now, movie night, shared story, and solo story, and have not encountered any bugs. This game is all about trying to solve the mystery and dig deep into its themes, requiring multiple playthroughs to understand everything, which makes its "short" length appropriate.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The ending is a plot twist that can either be mind blowing or a WHY AM I EVEN PLAYING THIS IF NO ONE IS REAL??? But then you realize that it is a videogame and therefore Andrew is not real either, so, are WE even real? What's the meaning of life? Are we just wandering bus drivers? What would Descartes think of this game?

But anyways it is a fun game to play with friends so buy it if you have friends

I had a better understanding and appreciation of all the nuances of the actual plot after watching youtube explanation videos but I feel the game should show all those hidden hints directly to the player at the end of the game, so we feel that aha! moment more clearly and accurately. Also, there are still some major plot points that don't make sense even with all the explanations out there that leaves me with an unfullfilled feeling. Overall, the game felt more like something to get through to the end and not an actual engaging experience to enjoy. Expand

These games just keep getting worse.. It incredibly boring. Story is predictable and its just feels like what it is a budget title.. There no game play to speak of , just walking around as jump scares happen, This can work (it did in Untill Dawn with its campy silliness and attractive interesting characters), but it dosent here, with the crap story and weird looking characters
    One thing

One thing that really gets me with these Dark Anthology games are the Faces>> Especially the female faces.. They are literally the only truly terrifying thing in these games. All the face look plastic and badly animated, but the girls get some special treatment, they are truly ugly and hard to watch. For a game that relies so much on character interaction its a hugh fail.

i really enjoyed this game. i binge played it from the second it was released till i got the platinum. a good story with an eerie atmosphere. as far as choice based games go this is top notch my only issue is the clunky walking mechanics. super massive has never seemed to figure that part out..

Very good horror game with a good plot twist. In the beginning the story takes a little to be good.

Ever since Until Dawn, these games have been going downhill, and it's a real shame, because the story wants to be good, the graphics are amazing... but nothing adds up. While in Man of Medan, the "twist" was telegraphed from the second scene, here, the twist comes out of nowhere, and therefore means nothing. The individual story lines seem completely disconnected and I never felt like my decisions mattered. Characters died kind of randomly and their personalities were all over the place, even within the scope of 3 sentences, it all felt like a bad dream that makes no sense. I guess that's what happens when the game is driven by jumpscares instead of the story, and you'll really trying to make the jumpscares frequent and shocking instead of trying to make the story add up. I honestly hope they focus on something else, ANYTHING else rather than producing a jumpscare in every scene. Because the storylines did have potential and the twist ending could've been emotionally powerful. Maybe next time. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I really enjoyed unraveling the story, I was shocked by the ending originally but I've come to realize that there is no reason for me to ever play this game again. i very much enjoyed playing man of medan over and over getting different endings finding different clues but no matter what you do in little hope the ending is essentially the same which is disappointing. i was also expecting the story to go back to some supernatural elements like until dawn instead of having it all in your head like in man of medan and considering that was their last game you think you would have slipped a few supernatural oriented games in between. Having played it through it twice (in single player & movie night mode) Little Hope is a big improvement over Man of Medan. Everyone had fun in movie night mode and the intriguing story kept everyone guessing. Loads of fun, like-able characters and well paced. The ending was a bit divisive - but besides that its supermassives best story yet.

Several evenings of playing ruined by crashes and corrupted saves. Could you guys check what you’re selling before loading it up to store? The worst game from supermassive so far. Clunky animations, long loading, missing voiceovers, unlocalized parts of dialogues. C’mon...

If this is supposed to be actual horror game then it failed miserably. Just no.

Definitely a step up from Man of Medan. Doesn't quite compare to Until Dawn. I will say this game is an absolute blast to play with your friend huddled around the tv all night.

What distinguishes Little hope from horror movies is that you don’t get to be annoyed about clichés or numerous bad decisions by its characters. No it is not a good idea to wander off alone when a killer is on the loose, nor should you explore that creepy basement by yourself. Yet, in this game, only one person is responsible for his bad judgement: you.

Little Hope is a return to form for Supermassive Games. After the somewhat slow and dry Man of Medan, Little Hope arrives with a narrative audacity and assured performances that place The Dark Pictures Anthology squarely on the top of the interactive filmic adventure game heap. With a rich, complex, and wickedly surprising narrative, Little Hope is well worth playing, despite some awkward moments and transitions.

Little Hope is a fantastic horror experience that really shows what Supermassive can do with the Dark Pictures series. Though it's a short experience and it exhibited a crash during review, it's a fantastically crafted thrilling drama with amazing characters who are genuinely fun to interact with. If this kind of game is something that seems interesting, don't pass up on this experience!
