That's You!

PlayStation’s new PlayLink format is off to a good start and That’s You really showcases their new software well, including the ease of connecting smart devices to their console. All in all, That’s You is an entertaining game and if you’re looking for a party game, it definitely meets the mark and more importantly, everyone has a smartphone these days so getting your friends and family around to play a game on your PlayStation 4 has never been easier.

That's You is an interesting game to play when you're with multiple friends at home, with funny interactions thanks to the PlayLink system that uses smartphones as controllers. It's still quite limited as you really need to be along some people you know well before you start playing this.

That's You is a casual game which offers a guarantee for fun. That is if you play offline and with more than two players. Playing online or with less players will not be as much fun. Still a great demonstration of the new PlayLink app.

It’s a great proof of concept as to why mobile and console gaming can complement each other, and don’t always need to be separated.

If you've got friends to play That's You with, it might just be the ideal party game for Sony's PlayLink system.

What’s great about That’s You right now is that it’s free for PlayStation Plus members. It’ll jump to $19.99 starting on October 24, a steep price compared to the Jackbox Party Pack, which costs $24.99 and comes with a plethora of games, but it’s worth it for those who get in right now. The graphics are great, as they should be since there’s not a lot going on visually, the narration is funny and the mini-games allow for a ton of natural comedy. It’s also the first of the PlayLink games, so if this is just the beginning, then it’s a good sign. That’s You is easy for everyone to get in on at parties or just when hanging out with friends and shows the future of PlayLink is promising indeed.

Other games in the PlayLink series look to do far more interesting things with your mobile phone, but as far as a proof of concept goes, That’s You! certainly makes the case for the system, even if it’s not as convenient as it could be. If you have PlayStation Plus, it’s worth downloading both the game and the app to see for yourself how it all works, and while I personally felt this one doesn’t have the legs to hold interest beyond a couple of games, the technology behind it shows promise.

A fun party game that is mostly enjoyable with friends and our couch. Otherwise, it isn't as fun, especially when played by 2 players.

That’s You! definitely can be fun, but it just doesn’t have the longer-term appeal that the simpler, but more outrageous games from Jackbox have. Still, as an early look at what’s in store for future PlayLink games, That’s You! Is an able demonstration of party potential.

All the parts are there for a great party game, but they don't quite fit together thanks to oddly long rounds and an unfortunate amount of scenario repetition. [Sept 2017, p.93]

Whilst it may not be the best party game on the market, it's still fun for the time you'll spend playing it.

C’mon Sony, you could do better. This is a far cry from games like Buzz or You Don’t Know Jack. This is a rather lame quiz with an unnecessary focus on drawing. It shows though, that the mobile phone is a decent controller replacement.
