Tales From the Borderlands: Episode One – Zer0 Sum is one heckuva debut. Somehow, the developers allow the action and story to leap off the screen, and they give a sufficient amount of time to each.

Short of not being a fan of the Borderlands franchise, this an incredibly impressive outing – and the fact that it’s not riddled with bugs is just the icing on the cake.

Tales from the Borderlands isn’t just a superb entry point into what appears to be a captivating story, it has the potential to be Telltale’s best work since the first season of The Walking Dead.

Telltale and Borderlands are the peanut butter and chocolate of the current gaming landscape, creating a piece that is too rock-solid in its own convictions to be labeled simply as a mashup.

With only a brief introduction to Rhys and Fiona, they have already become a pair of my favorite Telltale characters, and the fantastic final scene of the Zer0 Sum has be anxiously awaiting my return trip to Pandora.

Episode One is light on challenge but makes up for it in a big way with story and presentation. This is a great opening chapter to the series regardless of your familiarity to the Borderlands world.

Telltale has given us an excellent first chapter in what is gearing up to be one of their best series.

A high milestone for the upcoming chapters. Excellent and funky characters make this a frantic and colourful adventure.

    Well-paced, well-acted and brilliantly-written. [Jan 2015, p.94]

As expected, the Borderlands franchise translates perfectly into Telltales' series format. Fondly recommended.

The world of Pandora has a vault full of lore and stories to offer, so if this game matches the critical and commercial success of other Telltale games, then we may only have begun to scratch the surface.

Telltale's most creative adventure has promise, we're just holding out for the more alluring loot. [Feb 2015, p76]

Despite some awkward dialogue when you make the "wrong" choices, stilted movement, and laughably fickle facial expressions, we're still looking forward to the rest of the series. [Issue#252, p.64]

A fantastic proof of concept... it's just not as engaging or game-changing as the other cinematic episodes Telltale has been putting out over the last three years. [Issue#157, p.122]

They had to spend some time laying groundwork and establishing characters, but even those scenes are rife with humor and extremely enjoyable. Having played Borderlands ques you in to some of the more subtle humor, but overall this game is for anyone that loves action and a little crude humor. Fantastic experience! Full Review »
