A fun adventure with likable characters in the ever-chaotic wastelands of pandorra. Ultimately a good amount of fun but starts to feel a bit like borderlands jumping the shark. Also not much gameplay to speak of.

Have you ever wished while playing Borderlands that there was more story and explanation for what was going on on Pandora, Elpis, and Helios? Then Tales from the Borderlands is the game for you! A pure stroke of Telltale genius. They bring in both new and old characters in these five episodes that will leave you wishing that they had gotten to make a sequel.

A pure stroke of Telltale genius. They bring in both new and old characters in these five episodes that will leave you wishing that they had gotten to make a sequel.

If you still don't know what a Telltale game, it's not a true game in that you're not off adventuring/shooting/leveling up, etc. It's more of an interactive story. You get to walk around and explore areas at specific moments otherwise you're basically watching a movie and hitting buttons at the right times so you don't die and the story can progress. You also get to choose the dialogue your characters will say to others and thus decide what kind of friendships or animosity you'll create between them. Your choices really do matter.

This time you switch between two main characters that also sees them interacting together too. I love all the characters in this game. They are so well crafted and I am immediately drawn back into the world of Borderlands but at a far deeper level. I actually care what happens to these characters, whereas in Gearbox’s Borderlands series there wasn’t too much of bonding you with the characters and the story.

The only real downside is that I feel there should have been another episode between Episodes 4 & 5, before the crap really hits the fan in the last episode. It would have helped flesh out the big choices you made in the previous episodes but especially the choice at the end of Episode 4. It would have brought even more meaning to what happens to your characters.

I absolutely recommend this game if you've played at least Borderlands 2. It's the only one that's imperative to know before playing Tales as it basically takes up shortly thereafter. Playing Borderlands 1 and Borderlands the Pre-Sequel will give you a bit more info into a couple of characters that pop up but they’re not really necessary. If you can find a fair priced physical copy or the digital version that is available again, then you should do it. You won't regret it.

Gortys sums it up perfectly: A true rollercoaster of emotions! I was incredibly surprised by how much I liked this game. Voice acting is stellar, comedy is gold, characters very well fleshed out, incredibly well directed with lots of surprising moments, twists and turns… Not to mention player agency, you really feel like there’s weight and consequence to the choices you make.

A pleasant surprise, I believed I’d enjoy it but I didn’t expect to enjoy it this much!

Up to try any genre of games and sometimes I find something new that I didn't think I'd like. I own a PC (built by me), Xbox One X, Xbox Series X, PS3, PS4, PS5, and a Switch. I prefer Playstation due to their focus on narrative games. For scoring, I’ll be using the Gameinformer review scale and of coursed influenced by my personal opinions.

    (10) Outstanding. A truly elite title that is nearly perfect in every way. This score is given out rarely and indicates a game that cannot be missed.

Hands down the best interactive game in the genre so if you want to try this genre this is the game you start with. This genre is not for everyone since there is very little gameplay and very focused on narrative. I could never get into the regular Borderlands games but this game did such a good job with world building/explaining the world, I may try the other Borderlands games again. These episodes are fun, funny, and have moving moments that will get you to binge through all five episodes. Telltale usually have bad looking games but this game is beautiful.

Not the same experience as the Borderlands. I had a feeling that the game is only based on the franchise but takes place in different universe. It doesn't really reflect it's climate and humor. Probably the least qualitative of Telltale's games. The plot was kind of interesting, but for me it wasn't engaging. I expected more action than just a few twists.

Funny characters, great writing, wouldn't be out of place as a top film. Think Guardian of the galaxy mixed with Deadpool. I haven't actually played a Borderlands game before, I played through this as I enjoy a Telltale game from time to time, and had this one for free from being a playstation plus member. This game now makes me want to check out the latest Borderlans game and play through it! You don't have to have any previous knowledge of the game lore to enjoy this story, I rank it up there as the best Telltale game I've played so far. Top 3 being this, Batman Enemy within that's the second season, the walking dead season 1. If you enjoy a Telltale game you must play this one! Expand

The (long) beginning of the game is quite slow and boring. As it is the case with every Telltale game, laggy moments are frequent and don’t help with immersion either. I believe that it’s as from episode 4 that I really started to like this game. It has lots of qualities and patience is necessary to fully enjoy them.

The writing is done in a way that we encounter lots of funny moments and several nice plot twists. Animations of characters are good (better than in Telltale’s Batman for example) and a thing I love is that the Borderlands spirit is 100% well reproduced. Lots of details that are unique to Borderlands are shown in the game, which illustrates us that Telltale really took time to understand what Borderlands is. Most of the characters have a unique personality and they all have funny and/or cute traits. My personal favorites are the robots, I loved Loader Bot! Another very important aspect that is a success in this game is the choices system. Unlike some other Telltale games, in TFTB, choices can have a huge impact that can totally change significant parts of the game. Unfortunately, I didn’t love the game enough to be tempted to replay it. Nevertheless, the story is good (but indeed as I said slow in the beginning), but the two last episodes are by far the most enjoyable.

I wouldn’t say this game is worth much (that’s my opinion for any Telltale game because they are very short and very limited gameplay gives replay low value), but unlike some other Telltale games, it’s worth buying for a low price. Especially Borderlands fans will really want to play this game to have a very significant narrative addition to the stories they already know. It might even motivate some people new to the universe to try Borderlands games. Generally speaking, I liked it. The characters and some epic moments will allow you to remember it as a very unique game with a unique story.

A hilarious and well told story that captures the pinnacle of Telltale games. 9/10

Pros: - One of the few games I've ever laughed out loud at some of the writing - Uses the Borderlands licence well without feeling like a crutch, letting their own characters stand out as well as normal fan favourites - I've played quite a few Telltale games and this is the best one I've experienced -

    Cons:
    - Telltale games can feel a bit samey and this is no different, but the story helps it stand out
    - Occasional glitches
    - Sometimes the 'free-roam' sections slow you down a bit and you want to get back to the great dialogue

I can't decide whether this is my Favorite Telltale game, or the wolf among us, but this game hits all the right spots, and is a blast from start to finish, sad to see Telltale go bankrupt but at least they left a legacy of games that people will enjoy for generations.
