Playstation + freebie in September 2015:

It does look like dogturd. Had the developers gone that extra mile and put a glossy finish and some slightly better sounds on the game, it would have merited the £13.99 asking price, considering MGS ground zero was in the same price range. I think PS4 owners deserve great indie games, but again this could have been released as an Android App and work just as well.

That said, I've given this a mediocre score as it is playable and fun for free, a good afternoons gaming to be had.

I am a sucker for indie titles, and I probably would have gotten this on Steam eventually... But due to PS Plus, I got this game for free on PS4. First of all, the time-rewind mechanic kind of slows down the action. Yes, I get that the whole premise of this title is the time travelling gimmick... But, I just think they could have executed this better, without slowing down the gun n' run gameplay. Aside from that though, the game does offer plenty of levels and a pretty sizable roster of characters, which you unlock along the way. This is actually a great game for speedrunners, and does provide a fair bit of challenge at some points. 7/10 Expand

It isn't amazing but it isn't terrible. The whole "timeout" mechanic is by far the best thing about this game. I definitely found it challenging (and rewarding) to use the timeout mechanic to complete certain levels. The retro-themed levels themselves look great. I died way too many times in this game which was quite frustrating. I wish there was a health bar which would have to be depleted for you to die. Furthermore there were situations where too much was happening on the screen (explosion, deaths, gun shots, etc.), making it difficult to track where my character was. All in all, it's an alright game. Expand

There is a divide about this game in my house. I see the game as a cool idea and “meh” execution. My son loves it. He doesn’t get many of the references that makes up most of the jokes and yet he still finds the game hilarious. Unlike me, he also finds the game to be really fun.

The concept is novel but not unique. You control a poorly pixelated time agent with the ability to make a duplicate of yourself or another time agent. The duplicate acts as you did before you created it. In this manner, you can creat up to 30 duplicates to fight a single boss character and “melt” them, as they say. Like most games, you are guaranteed to win if you spend enough time restarting and re-trying.

The game has a hint of strategy. One time agent makes a shield, and you can rewind time and use his shield to protect another time agent who shoots guns. Seems like a nice 1-2 punch set up until a mass of pixels flies at you. The chaotic nature of the short missions (60 seconds minimum) and clusters of pixels makes any real strategy difficult to implement. Mostly you jump and rewind time to create more time duplicates. I would love for the duplicates to appear without trouble at the touch of a button, but the mechanic is a bit finicky.

All in all this is more of a fun concept than an entire game, though the embedded humor is appreciated. Like I said, my son loves it and would probably give it an 8 out of 10. Full disclosure: this was a PS+ “free” game, and I do not feel beholden to my wallet to “get my money’s worth”.

Really enjoyed this game, except one of the last levels which were a total nightmare. The game is a fast moving game which you have several characters and you are able to manipulate time. It's an hilarious game, and is really enjoyable to play through

A unique, clever, satisfying and endearing game. There's very little negative to say about this brilliant time-travelling shooter - we enjoyed every second of our time with it. [Issue#262, p.74]

Only minor control issues hamper this deceptively clever and immensely entertaining game. [Nov 2015, p.100]

Super Time Force Ultra is a decent porting for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita. The game experience is either fast and tactical thanks to time travelling and there are many different characters to control, each one with his own skills.
