If you are looking for a more than competent twinstick-shooter for your VR headset, this is it. Plus you’ll get the new VR level which turns out to be a BattleZone light. Not too shabby.

Super Stardust Ultra VR does everything that had made the series work before and expands on it with a new cockpit view. This really brings the action close to you and sucks you in like never before.

The head aiming system works well at least, but overall it's the definition of unnecessary.

It is hard to shake the feeling that Stardust VR could have been an update to the current PlayStation 4 iteration of the game. The new VR mode and enhanced presentation could have very well been either free or paid DLC for the existing game, instead of a standalone release that repackages all of the content from the PS4 iteration.

Fun and addictive space shooter with adds nothing especially new for the PSVR. Highly recommendable nonetheless.

In conclusion, Super Stardust Ultra VR transforms the previous game and gives the player a cockpit view that has been built especially for virtual reality. Although this mode does work, I did find the graphics a little dated and at times, a little jarring, especially the non-cockpit game modes.

Super Stardust Ultra VR brings a luke warm side dish that was nuked in the microwave to the table.

The new mode is unnecessary and strips away the very elements of gameplay that make Super Stardust so good in the first place.

    Decent - if limited - fun. [Issue#180, p.47]

Super Stardust Ultra VR looks so good on Sony’s new headset that you can almost forgive it anything but when you realise this is last year’s game with a short Battlezone mini-game tagged on, it all starts to feel like a cheap cash-in. If you don’t already own Super Stardust Ultra, then this represents good value for PSVR owners but for fans of the series, it kind of stings.

The root game of Super Stardust Ultra VR is everything you remember, with a new (albeit small) twist. The new Invasion mode, on the other hand, is a shallow nausea-inducing horde mode that does little to elevate the game. If you are looking for the VR game to showcase your new headset, save yourself the literal headache and skip this one.

The classic game mode are not improved by the VR headset, and the loss of definition is really hard to bear. The Invasion Mode, the sole new feature of the package, is short and uninspired.

Super Stardust will always be an outstanding arcade game, but this particular version is a tired attempt at repurposing an ageing experience for yet another PlayStation platform. The classic gameplay options function fine in virtual reality but offer nothing new, while the added PlayStation VR-exclusive Invasion Mode fails to grasp what's great about the original experience.
