Amazing game! I didn't play it when it got released first time, so I was thrilled to finally try it out. You probably know about quirky story, precise controls and hard but fair difficulty, so I'm gonna tell you how much I love this game.

I was jumping of joy every time I beat some level, and although I died a lot it was very fun to play it. I beaten only light world, so I can't really say I finished the game, and I probably never will beat some levels, but I still love this game.
And my love and appreciation for this game only got bigger after I watched Indie Game: The Movie, it was 10/10 now it's 11/10.

Just as it was when it came out, Super Meat Boy is a great, fast paced platformer that makes you tear your eyes out with its challenging design. It has a distinct style and a lot of levels to play through. Just keep in mind that this game is old by now, and you will not find a lot of new in this at all.

Super Meat Boy has you play as the protagonist - a cube of meat, as he has to save his girlfriend who happens to be made of bandages from the evil Dr. Fetus. Most of the levels in Super Meat Boy are extremely difficult, adding to it a degree of difficulty, and making you play and play those levels again until you get it just right.
The game also has you collect bandages, in-game currency found in most levels which can be used to unlock additional characters. Speaking of which, the game has a wide selection of characters, all with varied stats and different special abilities. Some characters can also be unlocked via warp zones found in certain levels, and by clearing these levels, you will unlock the character in question. There's nothing quite like flying over gaping holes as Bit.Trip!
Overall the game is a great play that you'll find difficult to turn off right from the onset. A brilliant combination of level design, character design and frustrating boss runs, this game is definitely one of my favourites!

I know it's been several years since this game's release, but had to review it based on it only getting 7 out of 10. Anyone who doesn't like this game can't handle it, simple as that. It's brutally difficult and because of that, extremely rewarding. If you have the twitch skills, pick it up. Amazing game.

I haven't felt this ecstatic upon starting a game in a long time. The game plays so amazingly well, truly one of the best 2D platformers of the 7th generation of consoles that sadly missed the Ps3 but we get it now on the Ps4.

Honestly, this game is not for everyone. Super Meat Boy is an extremely challenging game which needs perfect timing, countless tries and patience. If you are a casual gamer, you may find this game annoying but you can be sure about that the game DO NOT CHEAT within itself to be punishing or difficult. I think this is the main motive behind the success of Super Meat Boy; Being fairly challenging.

I've already put in many hours on the Steam version and even though it is super difficult, I don't mind starting over on PS4, that's how good it is. If you haven't given this game a try, you should definitely download it now. (The soundtrack is different, and admittedly not as good as the original, but that doesn't take away much from the experience.)

For me, SMB isn't just about making it through each level, it isn't about scoring an A+ on each stage, it isn't even about nabbing every last one of those devilishly positioned bandages. Well, in truth, I guess it is about these things, but what really gets my blood pumping is the race against the clock. Meticulously replaying each stage over and over and over until I've shaved every last tenth of a second and reached the very limits of my platforming skills. It has become an obsession.

Undoubtedly, this will sound incredibly tedious to many gamers, but for me – and those who instinctively gel with SMB's nuances – it represents the very epitome of hardcore, twitch platforming. And that is why I love Super Meat Boy so very, very much.

The fact that I can play it on my PS4 and then carry on right from where I left off on my Vita when I'm on the move is the icing on one hell of a sumptuous cake. Thus ensuring that Super Meat Boy on Playstation is the definitive version of the definitive indie platformer.

Perhaps if I was 10 again, I'd find the ease of play and fluent platforming action enjoyable, but now I'm in my 30s and time dedicated to gaming is 'My time", wasting it on such an unrewarding experience isn't going to happen. Sure, it plays nicely, if it was on my Android phone I'd waste a few train journeys completing it, but it's on my PS4 and it's just another 2-bit empty platformer.

Meetboy can jump, walk, run and wall jump to get past obstacles in order to reach his gf. Since there is no thinking involved in any level, the game comes down to simply being able to guide Meatboy where he needs to go. This is sometimes difficult but you will eventually get it if you try enough times. If you are not bored after the first level, I will be shocked.

Cons: Repetitive game play, lacking in almost every way.
Pros: Lots of blood if you're into that, the controls are solid.

You simply die over and over (and over) again on one screen until you get it right, make it, and then move onto the next board and repeat the process until the game is complete. While you would still die a lot in the games mentioned above, at least it's not every few seconds and at least some of the enemy and item placements may change due to RNG and timing making for a more engaging/stimulating experience. With Meat Boy, there is no RNG and everything is reset to its original position upon death. If you really want to experience the video game equivalent of eating concrete, just go download I Want To Be The Guy for free. It's pretty much the same exact thing as this, but it won't cost you a dime. Expand

A 2d platformer in the purest sense players control a living slab of meat, known as Meat Boy, as he attempts to rescue his girlfriend Bandage Girl from the evil Dr. Fetus (The story doesn’t make a lot of sense…). The opening levels introduce the control scheme, which essentially amounts to running and jumping, before the game quickly ramps up the difficulty. With instant deaths and no checkpoints this is a game that could easily have become frustrating but the fantastically precise controls, along with the clever level design that is able to constantly surprise and delight, make for an incredibly enjoyable challenge.

Very few will be able to complete all of the games 300+ levels but don’t let that allow you to miss out on one of the best platformers available today.

Why would you buy it? In a nutshell - you want a quick pick up and play scrolling game that is based on timing and twitch movements. It's frustrating and challenging, but fun and addictive. It's responsive and the gameplay is so simple anyone get pick it up in 5 minutes. Super Meat Boy has delightful level design.

It deserves praise because in the midst of all the indie games these days this stands as a shining pebble in a sea of mediocrity, I love it and I'm sure anyone who is a fan of scrolling games will do too.

Now I have this on Steam already, so my advice is don't bother getting it again unless you get it now (October 2015) whilst it's on PS Plus OR if you really want it for the PS4/Vita for another reason, from what I've played so far there isn't anything to make you buy it and it doesn't have the community made maps (Super Meat Boy World) either so you're getting a downgrade. This is entirely why I didn't give it a perfect score, they could have spent effort to make a level creator.

This game can be beaten in about 6 hours despite each level beign designed to be beaten in less than 20 seconds..
The hook of this game is its frustratingly addictive difficulty
The mechanics of Super Meat Boy is simple, which makes it so easy to pick up and in turn so easy to forgive as youre dying over and over..
You jump, run jump, or wall jump…
    Nothing else…
Its up to you to use these mechanics to maneuver through the games many obstacle courses of blades, lava, and salt.. and you only have one life to do this…
The difficulty of levels is really up and down..
And this is thanks to the game constantly adding new obstacles and enemies to deal with as the game goes on…
When a new mechanic is introduced it will slow down a bit..
This in turn creates a great pacing.. the levels aren’t constantly smacking you over the head with difficulty..
Youll at times get a nice breather…
But when levels are hard theyre hard…
and despite them making you want to pull your hair out, its just as hard to put down the controller and walk away.. at least for a little while…
For me the Charm of super meat boy started to wear off by chapter 3..
I was over the hook of dying and retrying, but that’s mostly because of the kind of gamer I am…
Im not into punishment for more than a little while..
But if you are one of those sick freaks that likes getting to the point of wanting to break your controller, Super Meat Boy is a great platformer full of collectables to unlock new characters, hidden levels, charm, great characters, and surprisingly engaging boss battles that only feel cheap the first 100 times you die…

Boi was i wrong to do so, the first time I started I was hooked and ended up beating it the next day but I wanted more. So I decided to 106% it along with getting the platinum trophy. So lets actually start the review.

The story is nothing special you ( Meat Boy ) are trying to save your girlfriend ( Bandage Girl ) from the evil Dr Fetus and thats it but its funny because the cutscenes that are between chapters have some really messed up humour.

The gameplay is absolutely incredible. The way Meat Boy controls is solid and the level layout is what makes this game fun. At first its simple but they slowly put in new objects, you are not told how to go about avoiding these so its all up to you and the level design. For example in salt factory missiles are added, at first these are a huge pain as you blindly jump about hoping they don't hit you but you suddenly realize theres a wall or that you can juggle them to hit a wall while you make your way to bandage girl making you feel like you accomplished something. Theres also different characters to be unlocked by collecting bandages or beating warp zones ( Which are awesome little throwbacks to the gameboy or consoles ) these characters have different abilitys like double jump or stick to walls.

The difficulty curve is nice and if you beat the previous world you can beat the next. Not once did I think this isn't fair or why did I die as it was always my fault. Theres a dark world which is light world levels but revamped to be harder to give you even more of difficult time if you felt like the light world was to easy or try tackling the Iron Man Trophies/Achievements.

All in all this game is great fun and if you are a fan of platformers then you need to play this now.

At last! The long-awaited PlayStation release proves that great game design never dies, and now it's even better with Cross-Buy. Fresh hell, hot from the infernal BBQ. [Dec 2015, p.79]

Super Meat Boy is an exercise in patience. You may in fact deplore it in the first one or two hours due to its unforgiving gameplay and level design, but if you take the time to consume much of what it has to offer, you may just acquire a taste for it.
