It might be worth a play if only just to try something a little different in a world that is getting pretty watered down with rogue-like games.

Subaeria's premise is brilliant and has loads of potential but its poorly executed roguelike structure, lack of tutorial, and severe glitches make it a tough game to recommend in its current state. Hopefully, we'll see a more fully realised version down the road.

Somewhere, deep in the heart of Subaeria, there is an exciting and action packed puzzle game. Unfortunately, just like the dystopian underwater world the game presents, it is so deeply submerged that you’d never see it from the surface. Rather than the deep blue ocean though, it is a roguelite structure that hides what works about Subaeria, rendering its achievements impotent with toxic pacing and progression issues. It’s a shame, as Subaeria showed promise.

Subaeria is a novel take on the rogue-lite genre. Trying to make enemies kill each other by outsmarting them can be fun and there is plenty to unlock. However at the moment the technical problems take all the fun out of playing it, sometimes making it literally unplayable. Hopefully these issues can be fixed with a patch as the concept deserves better.

With difficulty leveling, or at least the ability to save SOME of my progress, Subaeria could have been an enjoyable romp. As it stands, I’m glad to break the cycle of die, restart, rinse, repeat.
