The best couchplay game since TowerFall. [June 2016, p.94]

There's nothing overly serious about Stikbold, and that is where most of the charm comes from. For a game that is nominally about Dodgeball I was overly impressed with how the developers were able to keep the experience fresh and comedic throughout.

There's enough depth to keep players coming back for more, but not enough content to recommend long play sessions. A completely ridiculous, albeit short, campaign also helps round out an enjoyable package. 'Stikbold' offers up all the fun of dodgeball with the added bonus of not getting smacked in the face with a large rubber ball.

Overall, Stikbold! A Dodgeball Adventure has a lot to offer. It’s incredibly fun thanks to its addictive gameplay and wholesome humour, and shouldn’t be missed.

While the story is fun and quirky to play through on your own, the real meat of the game itself is the multiplayer. The matches in Stikbold! are well oiled and over fast enough to just grab another. And another. And...

Stikbold may not be your typical sports game, but it’s got a solid backbone of fun and wackiness.

A frequently funny and riotous take on Dodgeball, the lack of online multiplayer and occasionally soft-headed AI isn’t enough to meaningfully detract from the lustre of Stikbold’s blissfully enjoyable local multiplayer shenanigans. This is the dodgeball video game you never knew you wanted.

Stikbold finally gives the sport of dodgeball a credible representation in a video game. It nails the simplicity and mastery of the sport while remaining fun and humorous, but it lacks online capabilities and is just a bit too short.

Stikbold! is a beautifully unique party game at its core. Though a short campaign allows you to familiarize yourself to the gameplay, it’s lacking refinement to be considered worth much of your time. Multiplayer is where the game blossoms, it becomes an outstanding display of cartoon chaos. With so many different possibilities and room for further content, it’s best played with a gaggle of mates alongside you.

Fresh and frantic, Stikbold! A Dodgeball Adventure is a pleasant surprise, with moreish multiplayer and a beguiling, unique style that sets it apart in a crowded genre.

It won’t take long for you to be balled over by the sheer joy of hitting someone in the face with a ball. Sure it’s technically or graphically not going to win anything but Stikbold! A Dodgeball Adventure is definitely one to add to the party collection.

The appeal might not last forever due to a lack of content and depth, especially in the game’s story mode, which doesn’t fully explore all the great wacky ideas it seems to have. Even so, this is a standout indie that will bring a lot of people back to the couch — both the literal one and the figurative one of their past.

At its heart, Stikbold’s a fairly simple game of hitting people with balls, but it has a bunch of fun and silly ideas alongside that which turn it into a manic little party game to while away a few hours.

Stikbold! A Dodgeball Adventure takes a sport that few get the opportunity to play anymore and infuses it with a more action oriented approach that surprisingly works quite well.

Yes, it gets quickly boring and repetitive, but you will spend many hours in local multiplayer and mini games. Full Review »
