Road to Olympics is a sincere, passionate and compelling love letter to the Olympic spirt. It’s not a proper game about Pyeongchang Winter Games but rather a Steep-style take on them, with a fresh and intense game campaign, an amazing new mountain to explore and a lot of challenges to take. If you loved Steep, you’ll love this expansion even more.

Steep - Road to the Olympics is a great add on thanks to its serious nature. It offers a great excuse to play Steep again, which has really gotten better over the past year.

Road to the Olympics is a solid addition to Steep. Even if the story mode is lacking, the Olympic events and new Japan-based massif are more than enough to make this worth your time, especially with the PyeongChang games on the horizon. It might look like one of those weary licensed games of the PS1 and PS2 days, but fret not, because Road to the Olympics is the real deal.

Road to the Olympics adds a stand alone story that follows an olympic snowboarders’ journey from a hopeful participant, to the first person to ever claim gold in three distinctly different snowboarding events: Half-Pipe, Big Air, and Slopestyle. It (mercifully) doesn’t beat you over the head with an in-depth storyline and instead opts for a documentary approach of sorts.

A good Olympic expansion that makes the base game a bit more serious than in the past. Steep is now a one of the richest extreme sports games of the last decade, but be careful: the amount of content can overwhelm you!

While not an actual representation of the Olympic Winter games, Road to the Olympics new races are an interesting addition that fits very well with the core mechanics of the game. The contents of Steep have proven to be expanded positively over the course of a year, resulting in the best time to give it a try.

Overall, this expansion is enjoyable enough to recommend. You get more mountains to play on in the game and the events themselves are fun additions to the game. I wish more effort was put into making the whole experience more Olympic, though. The Road to the Olympics feels a little too much road and not enough Olympics in that regard.

But the expansion makes it all better: finally good rail physics, a lot of rails and crazy snow parks in the beautiful new open world area (Japan), finally a good "career" mode (road to the Olympics) and surprisingly good classic alpine skiing events (super-G, downhill, slalom, etc.). This makes it by far the best winter sports game since ages. Full Review »

Overall I found this game to be inaccessible, dull and frustrating.

I'm not sure if they went too far in the simulation aspect, but I prefer the older SSX games that emphasised fun, something this game sorely lacking.

Learning to play it was confusing, and the layout of the events and maps are even more confusing. There are also tons of microtransactions in there too, so I'll be trading this game back in again in the hope that a better snowboarding game comes along in future.

I really liked this DLC. There was a ton of new events to do and the competition of the olympic events is truly a blast.
Also, the story mode is a 10/10, most sports games struggle to create any type of immersive dialogue in a career/story mode and the "road to the olympics" really made me feel like i NEEDED to finish in 1st place for my countries pride (or whatever, lol).
The only reason this isn't a 10/10 for me is because the Olympic side of the mountain isn't available for free travel and that blows, but other then that, I love it! good job ubisoft. Maybe consider a CO/UT package!!
