This is the first SE game I've really regretted buying. Rebellion should be embarrassed about asking AAA money for what is not an AAA title. Cutscenes feature the latest in graphics technology from 2012, the story is unimaginative and boring, character development is not found anywhere, and the AI is laughable at best. When I got to the U-Boat pens, I realized that Rebellion was so lazy that they basically modded the Allegra Fortress mission from SE4. The invasion mechanic is really cool, but also sucks because you get punished for playing like an actual sniper, losing a match for "camping". Overall, I give SE5 a single star out of five. Save your money, and your time. Expand

Having played all previous SE games many times I was really looking forward to this one. It was probably the first game I preordered in years. Needless to say, it was a bit of a letdown for me. SE4 had been a masterpiece right off the bat: very few glitches, awesome AI/combat/sniping, great writing and graphics. SE5 was pretty much the opposite: Lots of bugs, terrible enemy AI even on harder settings, poor graphics, weak writing and the game even got touched by some of that left wing political correctness that seems to be seeping into the industry more and more (I'm referring to the black woman with a Scottish accent that gives Karl orders now). I kind of feel like there was a new team behind a lot of this game (possibly Gen z) which could explain it's shortcomings. Problem is, I don't think a lot of the problems can be fixed by patches or updates. Oh well, at least I can still replay the old games. Expand

This game is not finished, and could be called unplayable. First of all let me say no one is more surprised than me, who was charmed by SE4's solid package. And in theory this is a winner: SE4's foundation enhanced by more features and options, including a Souls-like invasion mode

But the reality is this buggy mess crumbles under its ambition. The number of glitches is too long, so let

But the reality is this buggy mess crumbles under its ambition. The number of glitches is too long, so let me narrow it down: certain conditions will cause the exfiltration trigger to disappear. So you might complete the mission and fight your way back to safety, only to find you can't complete the level without rebooting the game entirely. Avoid until SEVERAL patches take place

It’s by no means a bad game, but it did not innovate enough from SE4 to justify the price. It’s a shame because it was one of my favourite franchises.
