Good game. Simple and relaxing. But very bad optimisation for Ps4. Its lag like sh*t all the time like 15 fps when you have many slimes on screen

I have a PS4 Pro and the game causes my system to overheat and shut down every time I try to use the lab. This can be repeated consistently. A broken game deserves a 0 rating.

The game completely froze every couple of hours, causing me a lot of setbacks and lost time. I gave up and stopped playing.

This game was a pleasant surprise. Picked it up on sale, wasn’t expecting to like it this much. Simple and fun gameplay, and lets you be creative. Like the others are saying, it’s a relaxing game. You can play it at whatever speed you want, fast or slow. I’d say if you find it for a decent price go for it. Wish it had a character creator. Overall there’s lots to like here. This isThis game was a pleasant surprise. Picked it up on sale, wasn’t expecting to like it this much. Simple and fun gameplay, and lets you be creative. Expand

If you need a game to wined down and destress, this is the one. The controls are easy, and getting around is very fun. Just don't do what I did and free range all the hen hens, I had some many when I came back from exploring the game became laggy, poor hen hens it was a massacre.

Very relaxing game. Great if you enjoy a casual adventure. If you come to this game looking for an intense battleground, you've come to the wrong place. If you've come to see cute slimes and adorable art styles, you've come to the correct place.

    Very overrated.
It's a literal grindfest (if you want to platinum it) and it's just repeating the same steps over and over and over. Boring as all get out. If you play about an hour and a half you have seen the entire game.

Seems like a good game but the performance is incredibly terrible, when standing still looking at nothing it seems to barely hold 30 fps, but if a lot of particles start appearing, or there are a lot of slimes on the screen (in a game about creating a farm of slimes) the performance will dip to about 20 fps.

Even worse is that when exploring (one of the parts of the core gameplay loop)

Even worse is that when exploring (one of the parts of the core gameplay loop) you will come across some places, which judging by what I have seen in videos of the game being played in a pc, look good, have some nice detail and personality to them, and just make you want to play the game more, however, you see, these locations have a lot of stuff in them, and when walking around them (principally in the jungle) the game's assets will drop to PS2 era levels, and the framerate WILL drop to 10 to 15 frames per second.

So basically, when engaging with the core gameplay loop of the game, doing what you are supposed to do to derive enjoyment from the experience, you are rewarded with an unplayable mess where you are punished for exploration, one of the main parts of the game, and are punished for ranching slimes in SLIME RANCHER.

I only recently picked it up because of the (kind of) new PS+ Extra, and was horrified with the garbage performance, for what seems like a game that I would really like, and now seeing that it came out for PS4 more than 4 YEARS ago, I don't really see any excuse for it, I know it isn't the PS4's fault, it isn't that pathetic of a console, and I know it isn't my specific system's fault, since it can run games thousands of times more graphically intensive (such as RDR2, and GOW 2018) without even a hitch.

The fact that it runs Slime Rancher this badly is entirely the game's fault, and inexcusable.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This game is aesthetically pleasing with the most beautiful stories and world building I’ve seen in a tycoon game. It’s interesting and kept me on edge for a long while. However getting to the last world was a bit too easy and I feel like a lot of the doors you unlock with the gordo slimes were useless. They only lead to places I already unlocked. On top of that the ending credits happened almost as soon as I unlocked the last world and found this ruin place. I almost thought the game was over but it actually wasn’t. However despite those few flaws this game is a great stress reliever! The song that came with the ending credits is worth playing it all over again just to hear. It was beautifully done and the sentiment behind it almost made me cry. I also love how the main character is LGBTQ+ (Or so most can assume), it’s some not much seen representation. The letters from her “friend” or “significant other”, which ever you prefer, were so adorable to read! I could spend hours just reading those. Ahhh! As for the slimes directly I love love love how you can mix and match them for your favorite combination!!! Not to mention the update with the new skins! Adorbs!!! This game over all is now my go to when I’m stressed and I need some good vibes! Not something I’d play just to play if I already beat it though. Expand

While gameplay isn’t super-deep, you’ll still find yourself returning to the slime ranch again and again. [Issue#155, p.90]

Slime Rancher is an enjoyable foray into virtual ranching, yet fails to provide enough meaningful depth beyond its adorable visual identity.
