    I had really high hopes for this game, the mechanics and the way tricks feel is pretty cool with a majority of it feeling pretty realistic. But, there is like no content. The thing that annoyed me the most was the fact that irl I skate goofy, so i change my stance in the free world and try a challenge. One thing I keep coming back to compare it to is Ubisoft's Steep. Just riding down a mountain by yourself is very similar to skating in Skater XL feels, but Steep had challenges, different sports, whole mountains to explore and ride, multiplayer, competitions, user created content, ... Skater XL has a few good maps, but that's it. It's rare that I fully agree with a major gaming site review, but the IGN review pretty much nails my experience of Skater XL. It feels like an Alpha, a tech demo, but not a "game". Now, purists might take offense at that, and I'm not saying there's no joy in nailing a great line, in mastering tricks and the controls. But the utter lack of everything else - combined with the last-gen graphics and bugs - only gets you so far. The in game "challenges" just show you tutorial videos, and I'm not even sure if they're more than that. Without the PC's modding tools and community and the lack of a content creator akin to Trials or Steep, Skater XL is more proof of concept - a very good concept that I will play for quite some time. But it's not enough to be considered a game - especially at that price point (35 GBP). It's unpolished, lacking content, and in just a few hours of playing I know almost all the songs by heart - there's like eight songs or something?

    I don't know if Skater XL will expand, new maps, new features, updated graphics, but I don't see how this can be considered a 1.0 version with a AA price point. There's great potential and a great basis with the wonderful mechanics, but there's just a lack of content and polish that is hard to ignore.    … Expand

    The rest looks like an early Alpha version of what could become a nice videogame in a more or less close future.     Had very high hopes for this game as Skate 3 is one of my favourite games of all time and I was really keen for a fresh new skate game.

    Mechanics are really quite good, skating feels fun and overall decent, substantially better then Session which tries similar mechanics but falls short in its execution. Graphics are pretty abysmal however, which wouldn't be a big deal but the    Had very high hopes for this game as Skate 3 is one of my favourite games of all time and I was really keen for a fresh new skate game.

    Mechanics are really quite good, skating feels fun and overall decent, substantially better then Session which tries similar mechanics but falls short in its execution.

    Graphics are pretty abysmal however, which wouldn't be a big deal but the framerate on a PS4Pro is incredibly unstable and navigating menus the entire game freezes up for a few seconds with each new selection. I understand its a small studio but this type of performance is really upsetting.

    Very little actual content, its fun to skate around but with no career or pedestrians/moving cars the entire game feels incredibly empty. A shame because the core mechanics are great, it just needs more polish.

    Returned the game because at full price this is most certainly not worth it. Pick it up at a sale price of under $20 and you'll have a fun few hours with it, or wait and see if patches fix the lack of content and terrible framerate, in the meantime i'm back to playing Skate 3 on the One X in backwards compatible mode which not only looks better but has a lot more content.    … Expand

    I'm not really sure what score to give this game..
    On one hand, I really enjoy the controls even though there are some bugs (popping the board even when you don't intend to etc) and limitations (no ability to flatland making certain grabs or back/front-spinning)
    And I really enjoy making videos. On the other hand, optimisation is really, and I mean REALLY bad, framerate issues, long load    I'm not really sure what score to give this game..

    It lacks content for sure, but that will probably be patched in with updates later on.

    I'll give this a 6/10 at the moment and would like to let the devs know that they can't go slacking off, there's work to be done :)    … Expand

    Skater XL is mediocre at best, the game has a good control scheme and looks good, but it lacks personality. There not much to do here than just skate around and do tricks, no story, no challenges besides the tricks. The game would really shine if there were other skaters in the maps with you, either A.I or real players, instead it's just bland empty maps by yourself.     This game focuses on super controllable skate physics and once you get it down it's incredibly satisfying.You can time any trick as fast or slow as you want and also modify how it moves depending on the angle you move the joysticks at. Difficulty comes from learning how to do specific tricks on command; however, the tricks that are most difficult in real life come off easily in game. The challenge list for each map is great and gives specific focus on tricks, I think this is where the game shines.
    Outside of that free skate is fun but aimless, unless you have specific tricks/lines you come up with it isn't very engaging. Since there are no NPCs or traffic you feel alone as you skate through downtown LA, a weird sensation IMO.
    Some customization is available for your skater but options are quite limited.
    Could definitely use multiplayer, more customization, some sort of story/challenge structure, and NPCs to make it feel more alive. These additions would take the game to an 8.5 for me. A 9 would be if all lag and small bugs were also completely removed as they occur sometimes.
    If you are interested in skateboarding or enjoyed any past skateboarding games, this is worth playing.    … Expand

    Good looking start of skate games, but there a lot fo things to change in future updates:

    - create your own skatepark - add maps (now its too poor) - there is no aim in this game or career (from the very begining till the professional skateboarder) - add music player to change tracks during gameplay - add life to maps (people,cars,animals etc) So, according that this game is    Good looking start of skate games, but there a lot fo things to change in future updates:

    I’m a skater. Have been skating since I was about 6 years old. This game, in its current format, is absolute trash. As others have said, it’s essentially a demo. No online play (it’s 2020 - this is unforgiveable). Would be great to link uo with other players and trade lines, etc. but nooooo. The camera angle is absolutely awful. The controls are nice but buggy - pops an ollie often evenI’m a skater. Have been skating since I was about 6 years old. This game, in its current format, is absolute trash.     Floaty unrealistic physics, camera clips trough geometry, model and texture quality is outdated and inconsistent. Almost every challange can be done while standing, you don't have to follow the ghost as long you do the sequence. For static lighting the visual fidelity is rather underwhelming. The lack of npcs and other ambient elements makes this game feel very dead. All in all very disappointing.

It's unrealistic. no body flips and many flip tricks are missing. No career, no multiplayer, no moving vehicle or people. Very buggy and you often get stuck    Terrible game if you're played the skate series.

    El mejor juego de skate, las físicas y lo real que esta el juego es brutal, el único problema es que tiene muy pocos mapas, pero si meten los mods de pc en consola va a ser una bestialidad este juego y sin duda se llevaría un 10

    To all the people saying I should play this game more to get better, no worries the game is not that hard, especialy when you played EA skate. In 10 min I could do the same tricks as in EA Skate. Im someone that likes to limit test a game and boy this game does not hold up good. I think there is potential to iron out some of the bugs and polish up the glitches and bad framerate and phisics, animation. but it would stil be a tech demo wiith almost no content.

    Was excited for this game but it has no concept. Only 4 characters. No progression system. It simple drops you into space and go do what you want. I was pretty bored after 20 minutes. Will likely return it. Graphics are very basic. Sound track seems good

    If you want a skateboard simulator, this is the game for you. Positives: If you’ve ever been on a skateboard, you’ll find that the duel stick controls mimic the foot movements required to do a trick in real life. It’s really clever. Left stick left foot, right stick right foot, and the scooping and flicking is very reminiscent of how you use your feet on a real skateboard. Additionally,If you want a skateboard simulator, this is the game for you. Positives: If you’ve ever been on a skateboard, you’ll find that the duel stick controls mimic the foot movements required to do a trick in real life. It’s really clever. The fun is in doing what you do in real life when you skate: trying to master a trick or a line over and over until you finally do it. The physics and controls allow for this challenge to never get stale. If the tricks were canned animations, the game would get old fast. But since they are different each time depending on how you press the buttons, the game has a lasting entertainment value to people who want the joy of skateboarding in a video game. If that’s you, buy this game. If you’re a fan of RPGs that center on skate culture, then you should probably stick to Skate 3 instead.… Expand

That's Skater XL for Skate games. Few maps and absolutely empty, lifeless, without goals. The most that this game, with this structure, could reach is to become a lobbyImagine playing a Battlefield without multiplayer, with maps that look like post apocalyptic because they do not have any sign of human life and whose campaign is nothing more than the challenge of hitting shots at targets. That's Skater XL for Skate games. Few maps and absolutely empty, lifeless, without goals. The most that this game, with this structure, could reach is to become a lobby for you to walk while participating in a party with friends, but not even that because the game does not have multiplayer. The Conrols are actually difficult so u dont get in your first hour a Tre Flip Lip Slide but thats a huge pro point because you have to learn the controls. There are also a hand full of maps wich are really nice detailed and you can skate every corner but like I said there are only a hand full. Over all itsYes there are some bugs and Glitches but except that its a very good Skating game. When you clear a gap of pull of a complex move you've been working on it's pretty rewarding. The game could be incredibly enhanced by some objections/challenges, more maps and some online functionality so I can sort of sympathize with people who feel like there's not much of aProbably the best control scheme for a Skating game that I've played.     the controls are very difficult to learn I played 60% of the game and I was unable to adapt many combinations to decorate and the worst thing is having to use the r2 and l2 to turn, they should have copied the controls of Skate3 then it would be a great game

    If you are a skater or interested in skating in real life, then this is a definite must—have. It’s incredibly detailed in its physics mechanics and perfecting it takes time, but that’sIf you are a skater or interested in skating in real life, then this is a definite must—have. Skater XL gives you full freedom of control and decisions you make; speed of the flick translates to the speed of the trick. Doing a trick will not look the same if you do it again, as it is in real life. It’s incredibly detailed in its physics mechanics and perfecting it takes time, but that’s just part of the fun. Skater XL provides a variety of outfit customization which allows you to express yourself not only through the gameplay, but through fashion as well. The maps provided offer many spots to try out a trick you want to do yourself and explore the many ways you can style on let’s say a staircase or a ramp, a ledge, a rail, maybe a combination of that. There may be some hiccups through gameplay at this moment, but seeing as this was made by a small team from an indie studio Easy Day, they’ve done something revolutionary in the Skate genre of video games and it’s an absolutely incredible being able to see it first hand.… Expand

    THIS GAME SUCKS! Waste of $55 don’t spend your money on this trash, wait till THPS1+2 comes out in September. The camera angle is whack, the controls are whack and the maps are so boring and small that I would rather play with my techdeck from 10 years ago!!! This is the worst skate game to exist and PlayStation won’t refund you after you’ve downloaded it anyway! THIS GAME IS NOT GOOD!!!!

    Pros: * Somewhat of an interesting take of the already established EA Skate controls but-
    Cons: -done terribly.
    * Empty game with only 5 tiny maps
    * No true goals or purpose
    * Possibly one of the most annoying soundtracks ever
    * Early PS3 graphics Seriously, the developers should be ashamed of selling this atrocity for US$40

    20 Bucks would be a fair price for consoles.

    On PC it can be awesome due to passionate modders who fix the flaws the game has, but just on PC and not everyone is into modding and mods should not add to a value of the game to make profit with it.
    So much filmed gameplay with mods that don´t show the reality and developers supporting to **** on other skateboarding games is not good.
    Would not wonder if they abbandon the game like the skater mobile game.
    But who knows, maybe it gets better with upcoming updates and it becomes the game that it tries to be.
    Some people will enjoy it, i can´t.

    Another thing i noticed is how toxic the community can be, they bunch up to downvote youtube videos that give critic to the game or raiding session streams to trash talk.

    All in all super silly and childish behavior from some people.    … Expand

    These developers need to focus on the bigger fan base, rather than trying to appeal to the hardcore, real life skaters. On top of that, how about putting some effort and content into the game?     Games generally work when the player is either presented with goals to reach or a world to explore, but Skater XL doesn't provide enough of either to be a fulfilling experience.

    Easy Days Studios strove to achieve a great and realistic control system for Skater XL, and they nailed it. On the way to geting it, though, they forgot to build a proper and fun game around it.

    We’re in love with the unique control system, but the longterm appeal of the launch version is questionable. If/when more features arrive to fill in the gaps, it’ll be an essential purchase. [Issue#179, p.74]
