Jul 30, 2020Very basic. Limited levels, limited customization, limited soundtrack & a game that gets boring very fast. There's no story to it just skate around a few levels doing the same tricks.

Jul 30, 2020Floaty unrealistic physics, camera clips trough geometry, model and texture quality is outdated and inconsistent. Almost every challange can be done while standing, you don't have to follow the ghost as long you do the sequence. For static lighting the visual fidelity is rather underwhelming. The lack of npcs and other ambient elements makes this game feel very dead. All in all very disappointing.

Jul 30, 2020Was excited for this game but it has no concept. Only 4 characters. No progression system. It simple drops you into space and go do what you want. I was pretty bored after 20 minutes. Will likely return it. Graphics are very basic. Sound track seems good

Jul 31, 2020the controls are very difficult to learn I played 60% of the game and I was unable to adapt many combinations to decorate and the worst thing is having to use the r2 and l2 to turn, they should have copied the controls of Skate3 then it would be a great game

Jul 29, 2020THIS GAME SUCKS! Waste of $55 don’t spend your money on this trash, wait till THPS1+2 comes out in September. The camera angle is whack, the controls are whack and the maps are so boring and small that I would rather play with my techdeck from 10 years ago!!! This is the worst skate game to exist and PlayStation won’t refund you after you’ve downloaded it anyway! THIS GAME IS NOT GOOD!!!!

Jul 30, 2020Pros: * Somewhat of an interesting take of the already established EA Skate controls but-
Cons: -done terribly.
* Empty game with only 5 tiny maps
* No true goals or purpose
* Possibly one of the most annoying soundtracks ever
* Early PS3 graphics Seriously, the developers should be ashamed of selling this atrocity for US$40 -

Jul 31, 2020Pluses: Innovation in control
Minuses:
Graphics, my eyes are tired after 1 hour A bunch of bugs
No content Very Low FPS in competitions Verdict:
I would ask for refund if I could
The price should be 15-20$ or less -

Aug 4, 2020It feels like this was thrown together to fill the gap between the next skate game being made. Wish I'd bought it on hard copy as would of taken it back by now. Playing it feels like stubbing my toe repetitively on the corner of my coffee table. Would feel more like skating if I actually took my coffee table down to my local skatepark and sent it down the deep end of the concrete bowl.

Aug 7, 2020Not good but not bad. It should be closer to a $10, maybe a $20 game. Lots of glitches, getting stuck on invisible barriers. I guess it’s an ok game to hold you over until THPS or Skate comes out. The controls are good, which is the highlight of the game. There’s really not much else to say good about this game. I regret buying it.

Aug 5, 2020I bought it and was very disappointed. I like how the controls are real time but they still made it more difficult then it had to be. Also I found myself falling through things. One aspect I would have changed was the fact that every time you wipe you have to respawn in your original spot. That annoying

Nov 20, 2020my only hope is that someone from EA reads these reviews and realizes how badly we need Skate 4. that people should be forced to play this game on next gen consoles after playing Skate 2-3 is like drinking Schlitz after you've finished all the Glenlivet.

Aug 15, 2020Crap game. 2007 EA Skate has better gameplay and graphics. Full of bugs. Don't Buy.
-
Aug 13, 2020The controls are actually pretty good.
But the textures take like 5 seconds to load.
The customization is bad.
There are no other skaters, no humans, no moving vehicles, nothing.
"It feels like the part of the game you play while you wait for the rest to install" fits the game perfectly. -
-
Aug 1, 2020A glitchy mess, with lifeless maps and horrible graphics. The very few maps that they offer get tiring very quickly, The character models look absolutely horrendous and there just is not anywhere near anough content to be worth paying full price right now.

Aug 18, 2022Absolute garbage, I wrote a longer review but metacritic is trash as well and it didn’t post, don’t buy this pathetic excuse for a “skateboarding simulation” EA’s game from 2007 is somehow still better than this disappointing travesty.

Sep 14, 2020Games generally work when the player is either presented with goals to reach or a world to explore, but Skater XL doesn't provide enough of either to be a fulfilling experience.
-
Sep 1, 2020Easy Days Studios strove to achieve a great and realistic control system for Skater XL, and they nailed it. On the way to geting it, though, they forgot to build a proper and fun game around it.

Playstation Official Magazine UKAug 22, 2020We’re in love with the unique control system, but the longterm appeal of the launch version is questionable. If/when more features arrive to fill in the gaps, it’ll be an essential purchase. [Issue#179, p.74]
