A wonderful Metroidvania inspired adventure. It could use a HD sprite overhaul, but I found the pixelated graphics charming. I played this originally on a DS, but the new additions made it worth a second play-through.

Game play is ok and the game i thought would be looking good, however on a big screen it's just awful and i should have taken this on a vita or 3ds. Definitively not nice enough on a ps4 too oldy in the visual aspect to get my consideration.

I played the original Shantae and Risky's Revenge on PC, and so far this is the best Shantae game. While it still retains the same old-school sprite graphics (which may look a little iffy to some on a big TV screen) it still doesn't mean the game holds up gameplay-wise, and I for one still enjoy it's sprite-based charm. This sequel is a major upgrade in terms of gameplay, lenght and humor. Risky's revenge confusing map system has been overhauled, and so does the airborne combat, it feels more organic and responsive. Make no mistake, it's a great game, a very charming one.

Shantae is a classic game in the right senses. It’s got a decent challenge, it’s fun, and seeing as it’s on almost every console now, there is no excuse not to try it.

In an era deprived of 2D mascots and platformers, it’s refreshing to see something like Shantae continue to persist and impress, and strengthens the anticipation for the kickstarter-funded sequel.

Platforming is tight and varied, and the plot matches the lighthearted tone of the rest of the game. Shantae and the Pirate's Curse is a spirited little game, and by far the best 2D platformer on the PlayStation 4 to date.
