-A mode where you can pick ALL your items, in a shop. RNG is a B.

-Less defense rating on enemies, how the hell do some people even get to double digit stages on Normal as it stands today? And Monsoon? Am I missing something?

-Some of the characters that are fine on Easy suck on Normal and are unplayable on Monsoon.

-All characters need more health on modes after Easy. I know this is a rogue-like, but you guys have made an unfair AWESOME game that could be better if it wasn't so scary, if you know what I mean. Even Dark Souls & Sekiro isn't this stingy on health, and they don't expect us to fight MORE enemies, with RANGED attacks, that move FASTER than the player characters.

    Thanks!

+ Range of characters to choose from, customisation of said characters
+ Range of items, nearly all useful
    + Expansive maps
+ RNG only goes so far, mainly skill-based
    + No absolute metas

    - Certain multiplayer mechanics need fixing

So, the game looks really bad graphically, but I'm the kind of person who will play anything as long as it's fun. NES, Intellivision, whatever, as long as it's fun. I don't like the fundamental design, which is based on a timer. I hate games based on timers, as it's just artificial difficulty that ruins your ability to play as you want to. Every second that goes by in this game, it's designed to get harder. You're frantically looking around the level for items and more importantly the teleporter, which is how you summon the boss and move on to the next stage. You have no idea where it is, so you just pick a direction and start running. If you're lucky, you'll find it within the first 3 minutes. If you're not...

After 5 minutes, there are 20+ enemies fighting you at once, and the only strategy that seems to keep you alive is to jump around, spending 95% of your time in the air while strafing. Nothing else works, no matter what character you are or what items you've picked up. I'm not enjoying playing like this. The player shouldn't be pigeon-holed into playing the game only like a spastic kangaroo.

The control of the character is pretty decent, so I'll give it a couple of points for that. Otherwise, this is a big failure to me. No fun to be found, only frustration.

ROR 2 is a fun game with one massive flaw, cheap death that waste hugh anounts of progress. Many time my screen just went completely red and my health droped from 100% to 0 and I had no Idea what killed me. But its highly different game, that could be a train wreck if it wasnt for maticulas ballancing, a perfect loot gain loop and just good old passion from the developers.. Risk of Rain can have one game play session last hours as you begin from the start every time you die. But a cleaver unlockable system means your character is more powerful every run and you even unlock new chacters. Having new characters was a must have to make this game great. I was tired of my first guy just when the next character unlocked and so on..The problem is sometimes you dont want to play for hours making this a game you only pick up ocasionally. Luckily the price tag is perfect for a game like this. But a triple A game like this would piss me off , it fit the experimental indie market great.
Lastly the game looks great and runs at s smooth 60fps most of the time. Everytime you discover a new world its a thrill. Once you have got your chatacter loafed with power up the fire fights can be insane. Its a firework show of destruction.. Finishing a good run generates a sense of satisfaction few games can emulate.

I was hoping for a fun game given how everyone gushes over it. All I got was boring shooter with find the door sim added into it. I normally don't get bored easily, but I found myself that way. Everything going crazy and can't see item details when I pick something up. Even when I'm paused. Wasted my 8 dollars, thank god only that. Will play for a couple more hours, not expecting any better.

    Cons:
    - Aim assist seems broken, so you need to be precise with your thumbs while aiming
    - Each run can be veryyyyy long and you can't save during a game (my last attempt lasted for almost 3 hours straight!!)
    - You can't choose what HUD elements you want to keep on screen, it's ON (with everything) or OFF (with absolutely nothing, not even the cross reticule)
    - Chests and upgrades are not separate in on-line coop, so you have to "fight" for them

After a few button presses, you're launched straight into the action and when you've come to terms with the game's mechanics and learning curve, you're on your way to having a blast as you fend off waves of increasingly difficult enemies. Speaking of enemies, the enemy variety in Risk of Rain 2 isn't only fantastic on a gameplay level, but is also absurdly creative in terms of visual and artistic design, ensuring that the things that you're shooting never look dull or copy-and-pasted.

The only criticism I can direct towards Risk of Rain 2 stems mostly from it's nature as a rogue-like. These are games designed for short term gameplay where your progress is reset upon defeat and I simply don't see much point in 'wasting' my time on something where my progress isn't cumulative.
Another issue I have is the method in which most of the other Survivors are unlocked. To achieve this you must do obscure things that require a guide and dozens of hours of trial-and-error run throughs.

All in all I quite like Risk of Rain 2 and I heartily recommend that you give it a go and see how far you get.

I have not played the first Risk of Rain or any Hopoo Games games other than Risk of Rain 2. It took me roughly 40 hours to platinum the game (100%).

Risk of Rain 2 is a third-person shooter roguelike survival game that has up to 4 players fighting against a wave of enemies, exploring the region and collecting randomly generated items that strengthen the player alongside the enemies who equally scale in strength. Risk of Rain 2 offers a diverse cast of characters for a wide range of playstyles, where each character has an additional small amount of exchangeable abilities. Huntress the archer was my go-to character because I cannot aim for **** Before embarking on a journey, the player has the option to choose the difficulty and any additional modifiers to spice up their run. As of this review, you have to unlock the modifiers and the game can be quite difficult at times and thus, I spent majority of my 40 hours on this game on the Easy difficulty with no modifiers. And I must say, I still thoroughly enjoyed it.

Highlighting this game's flaws first, since there aren't many, this game is not visually impressive but like Borderlands, the aesthetic ties beautifully with the in-game soundtrack to deliver an experience that makes the player look past the graphics. The bigger red flag, when playing this game late 2021 on the Playstation 5, are the terrible servers. I cannot count the amount of times my friend and I could not join each others lobbies and if we did, one of us would be randomly booted out of the game midrun. For a game that I feel is heavily co-op oriented, this is a huge setback.

When Risk of Rain 2 does work, it is able to capture true roguelike growth that keeps you glued to the game. You start off weak and powerless but as you progress in your run, picking up tens of items, some of which can stack, the sensation of being overpowered is like none other. There are around ten regions in the game, each featuring a plethora of infinite spawning enemies.

The purpose of each level in Risk of Rain 2 is to get to the teleporter and escape the current region. As time goes on, more and more enemies will come after you. If you want to get to the teleporter, you'll have to fight some sort of boss or bosses. Once you successfully teleport past 5 regions, you have the choice to fight the end game boss and conclude your run or you can continue your run, facing more enemies, gaining more items, seeking for Artifacts or unlocking new characters. Risk of Rain 2's lore is hidden amongst the in-game regions via hidden side-quests, most of which I ended up Googling tutorials for rather than discovering them naturally. For example, by activating an Altar of Gold on the Gilded Coast region, you can teleport via a Gold Portal and face the hidden boss Aurelionite.

In the end, Risk of Rain 2 is an addicting, action-packed experience that anyone interested in the roguelike/ roguelite genre should pick up. There are a lot of characters to unlock, items leading to unique builds to try out, bosses to defeat and lore to explore. If it weren't for the servers, I might consider giving this game a 9.5 or even a 10.

I have never liked this genre but I love this game. Co-op 2-4 players makes it one of the most fun times I've had on PS4. It is one of those games that might seem hard at first but if you're like me, you'll keep on keeping on with it and a dozen or less hours later you start to really feel in control of the game and have tons of fun with little stress because you're starting to get "gud."

Cons: - The graphics are basic (to say is nicely), you couldn't round some corner on your objects so it doesn't look like kindergarten block set? - Generally unpolished, even after multiple updates. Slow downs happen often on a PS4 Pro. - Tele-porters are stuck in weird locations, monster spawns sometimes means you can't continue without just restarting. -

    - Unless something changes after 5+ hours with the enemies, the design is extremely similar across enemies and the way they deal damage.
    - Having played a run for 1+ hour with just dying on the last boss having 15% health left, doesn' fill me with excitement to continue if you don't give anything in return.
    - Attacks are difficult to follow and understand . Both for how much damage they may do (a big blue orb can half your health, while an exploding enemy of the same size does almost nothing).
    - This is more personal but the last level is way too long, in general its a 6+ stepped boss with recycling the same boss and enemies again and again.

    Pros:
    + Gun play is great
+ The upgrades are well designed.

It's extremely repetitive without many returning gains. If you would be able to keep one an upgrade after a run (or multiple runs with the same upgrade) at least you're playing for something.

Risk of Rain 2 might just be one of the PlayStation 4’s most addictive co-op experiences. Crash-landing on a hostile planet littered with sparsely detailed but highly stylised landmarks and architecture, you and your team must survive using weapons and abilities that are in constant flux as you slot in more and more perks. It sounds simple, and at first it feels that way -- akin to playing laser tag against overwhelming odds, such is the deceptively basic (yet responsive) way that starting out each run feels.

Risk of Rain 2 is fast, fluid and a lot of fun. This is amplified vastly in multiplayer, which works flawlessly and is very enjoyable. If you enjoy roguelikes you will enjoy Risk of Rain 2, even if you don't, you may want to try something that is quite different from what is currently on the market.
