Thickly atmospheric with an impeccable sense of place unmatched by other games, Return of the Obra Dinn is the smart, stylish and curiosity detective adventure that you've always wanted.

What a mystery it is. We won't spoil anything, but as the Obra Dinn's adventure across the sea unfolds itself, you'll slowly learn about the relationships and tribulations of all its crew members and passengers. The post-mortem storytelling is compelling, and is never quite enough for your investigation -- or your curiosity. The art style is similarly withholding, offering just enough detail but maintaining an air of unease, and it looks utterly unique to boot. Some may struggle with the visuals as it can be a little too noisy in places, but if that's our only quibble, you can deduce that this comes highly recommended.

It clicks in a way that few mystery games do, making you feel like you’re doing actual detective work. The biggest issue is that on a pad some of the menus feel a bit too clunky, but it’s a solid mystery you’ll be chewing over even when you’re not playing. [Issue#169, p.96]

The experience was as captivating and memorable as I’d hoped. I was glued to it until I was done. My only wish is that I could erase my brain and play it again.

This game is a must-peek on ps4!. This game might be short but i simply loved every minute of it. This game is so brilliant and clever. The challenge, the story, the graphics which let space for imagination. For me, it is the only game which is a movie, a book and a video game at the same time. so unique! Expand

This a hardcore detective game where there's no handholding on the game's part, the player's victories and losses depend entirely on their own abilities. It's story is simple but engaging and the gamepay mechanics are unique. It is very original in everything but it is also very different, so there will be people who will not like it for the very things that make it unique. Even if you get frustrated on some puzzles, you must push through, the feeling you get for solving them is the most fun i've had with a mystery game because i really did all the brainwork, the game just gave me the clues. This game made me feel like a real detective. Expand

Fantastic and gorgeous adventure whodunnit. If you like deduction, reasoning, sleuthing and a solid mystery, this game is for you!
It is, of course, by no means perfect - more player agency, less ambiguity around certain plot points and a more satisfying conclusion would have gone a long way. Still, there is nothing quite like it, it's got fantastic puzzles, incredible (albeit slightly repetitive) soundtrack and absolutely knockout visuals.

My only criticism is that it can get a bit hard on your eyes if you played in a dark room so you have to get a well-lit room for eyes not to hurt, if u see it on discount playit

In fact, it almost wasn't for me. Some of the puzzles are so obscure and unexplained that the game can become tedious and frustrating... But that's the point!
The point is to push through and to think outside of the box. Once you solve puzzles and figure out more and more fates (as the game calls it) everything starts coming together.
The graphics are gorgeous, but can be hard to look at for a prolonged playthrough and the ending is maybe a little meh.

However the creativity and attention to detail in the puzzles as well as the whole originality of the game means it is a wholly new experience. I highly recommend it, even with it's flaws.

Short and sweet. Mechanically simple but tells a really engaging mystery with a lot of style and substance. The gameplay of putting togetherShort and sweet. Mechanically simple but tells a really engaging mystery with a lot of style and substance. The gameplay of putting together details to figure out what happened to everybody is inspired, The game also has a unique sense of style that works really well and leaves a strong impression. Some of the puzzles are extremely difficult to solve naturally tho, and the game starts to overstay its welcome near the end Expand

Story is good but a little too generic for my taste. First part of the game is great but in the second part it gets very tedious - game could use a lot of more content for clues, because in the later part you're forced to guess a bit too much and instead of critical thinking you're trying random matches. Also I was stuck for a very long time because something that looked like being speared to me the game treats as being clawed - maybe there was a clue for this one but if there was it was way too obscure. For me it's not worth the full price and i'd recommend to get it on sale. Expand
