    This is a good game that defined action horror. A lot of the controls are clunky but by design and this game turns its weaknesses into its strengths. A solid action adventure that is still really scary.

    Kurz gesagt: Ich hatte mega Spaß. Und ich war beeindruckt vom Umfang. Zwar war jetzt die andere Kampagne nicht so toll, trotzdem war es überraschend und hat trotzdem Spaß gemacht.
    Das Gameplay ist wirklich gut gealtert (abgesehen vom Stehen beim Zielen). Kritik habe ich an der Story.     Resident Evil 4 is one of the best and most influential action games of all time.

    This is the game that ended the classic survival horror era of the first Resident Evil entries. From RE4 onwards, no RE main entry would return to its survival horror roots until RE7, meanwhile Capcom released a bunch of spin-offs such as Revelations but still they never embraced survival horror. RE4    Resident Evil 4 is one of the best and most influential action games of all time.

    This is the game that ended the classic survival horror era of the first Resident Evil entries. From RE4 onwards, no RE main entry would return to its survival horror roots until RE7, meanwhile Capcom released a bunch of spin-offs such as Revelations but still they never embraced survival horror.

    RE4 isn't really a Resident Evil game. Horror gets tossed outta the window and it's more of an action shooter game with a focus on survival. Tank controls still exist in how you move and aim, it's a 3rd person perspective instead of fixed camera angles. There is even a merchant from whom you can buy upgrades and ammo. The enemies are not zombies but mutated humans, they are slow but also carry weapons and often transform into monstrosities. Even the (nonsensical) story has nothing to do with Resident Evil lore, RE4 could easily have been named something else and no one would complain.

    But RE4 is still a great game from 2005, even though its admittedly clunky controls and outdated gameplay haven't aged well compared to 2019 standards, it requires some getting to grips with. Enemies can be shot in different points and react differently. You escort Ashley and have to shield her. You survive countless challenging encounters (the introductory fight "welcomes" the players before they even get to grips with the game). The innovative over the shoulder camera later became a staple of games such as Gears of War and many other 3rd person action/shooter games. And the various boss fights are mostly good. Surely RE4 has plenty of "meat", it took me roughly 20 hours to beat it. Some of it was great, some of it was meh, but overall it was good.

    On PS4, RE4 runs at 60 fps, but there is some noticeable aliasing around ground textures. Thankfully it's no big problem, but I wish Capcom had worked a bit more on this port.

    RE4 is still one of the best games of its generation, but if you haven't played games from that era before you'll be instantly annoyed by the clunky controls and the lack of auto save. It's fine to play on PS4 and even other consoles and PC, but I wish someday Capcom release a true remake of RE4 instead of just another lazy port to the next generation PS5 console. Hopefully now that Capcom are on a good roll and released the RE2 remake, they will keep remaking the old games.    … Expand

Leon Kennedy once again finds himself up against biological terror as a group of cultists kidnap the presidents daughter and he most travel to rural Europe in order to rescue her.     One of my favorite game of all time is now on PS4 with the full HD and 60 fps gameplay.
    Despite from two generations behind, this game is still awesome. (FYI I bought this game 3 times from PS2 to PS4)

    Es lo mismo que se vio en ps3 solo que a 1080p y con un nuevo mapeado en los controles recomendado para quien no lo jugo en su tiempo gamecube ,ps2 si lo tienes en ps3 seria una perdida de dinero

    Resident Evil 4 for the PS4 is a great game, it manages to maintain the charm the original GameCube version has. It's got a decent story and set of characters, the gameplay at the time was ground breaking but today it feels just like any other third person action game. But it's still a really good game especially with the updated graphics.

    Graphics have taken a slight hit, cleaner but the jaggies have been highlighted due to the HD job so if you are picky on ps2 era graphics been highlighted this may be an issue, another problem is a glitch that despite all this time ALL versions of the HD remaster (even the recent switch version) is an aiming glitch which can be detrimental if not disabled right away (shoot an explosive and your hands go crazy making fine aiming difficult, only way to shut it off is to do the same action again and if nothing to pop is about it will affect fine aim).

    If you can get it cheap its worth it if you never played re4 and like your action games, but if you have the older versions (specifically, wii and ps2 which have all content) its a hard sell    … Expand

    It is not the best RE game, but It is definitely iconic qnd worth playing. In my opinion, the large Focus on action does not combine with the RE franchise, the horror elements are much more exciting.
    It was in this game that the franchise started making the mistake of turning RE into an action game, once they enhaced the action in the fifth and (especially) in the sixth game, the stories    It is not the best RE game, but It is definitely iconic qnd worth playing.     Resident Evil 4 is an outstanding game with a solid game loop, tense inventory management, and a derelict atmosphere that drew me in. The world is captivating to explore, with five giant landmarks to discover. However, the game dragged near the end due to the sheer amount of content.

    One of the downsides of the game is the QTE segments, which can be frustrating. Additionally, the cutscene dialogue and voice acting can be corny and it does detract from the immersion of the game. Another issue is Leon's plot armour. For example, when Sadler kills Luis but Leon is spared for no apparent reason, or when we are in the barn house with Luis and surrounded by zombies but they simply leave us alone. It can break immersion and appear forced.

    Separate Ways - 9/10
    Some plot points go unresolved in the main game but are explained in the "Separate Ways" mode, which adds depth to the story. It recontextualized the main game's events, addressed plot points, and teased the next instalment in the series, Resident Evil 5. It was short and sweet.

    Pro Mode - 8.5/10
    I skipped all cutscenes and concentrated solely on the gameplay, I ended up pushing both myself and the game mechanics to their breaking point. This is when RE4 felt like a true arcade game and I had a blast!

    Overall - 8/10
    Resident Evil 4 is a great game with its fun gameplay loops, tense atmosphere, and captivating world. While it has some flaws such as QTEs, corny dialogue, and plot armour, the overall experience is highly enjoyable and left me wanting more!    … Expand

    Is the best resident evil ever but could have a remake and not a remastered because the controls actually are terrible, but the rest is very very well. I recommend doing a remake but only improve the cam, the history doesn´t change anything ANYTHING

    This version is the same old great RE4. They could've improved it in some ways but RE4 is perfect and it always will be. The graphics are a bit dated though and the gameplay is still clunky.

    Played this game to 100% on PS2, then on Xbox 360, and now on PS4. Always feels nice to go back to this gem, still well playable to this date. This HD port feels great, a very smooth 60fps experience. I didn't like that some textures, animations, and even entire cutscenes from the extra modes, didn't get any upgrade.     I'm a Resident Evil fan, I played and loved the remakes of Resident Evil that Capcom recently released. I'm especially a big fan of Resident Evil 2 Remake. When Resident Evil 4's remake was announced, I was very happy. I had played a little bit of Resident Evil 4 and thought it being remade would be great, but when the remake actually came out, it was too expensive for me to buy so II'm a Resident Evil fan, I played and loved the remakes of Resident Evil that Capcom recently released. I'm especially a big fan of Resident Evil 2 Remake. When Resident Evil 4's remake was announced, I was very happy. I had played a little bit of Resident Evil 4 and thought it being remade would be great, but when the remake actually came out, it was too expensive for me to buy so I decided to play the original which I already owned. I played it on my PS4 and really enjoyed it!

    First of all, Resident Evil 4 differs from the previous entries in that it goes into a more action focused direction. This is a very risky thing to do for long-running game franchises but Resident Evil 4 still manages to be creepy. The horror of Resident Evil 4 comes from it's action oriented gameplay. Enemies take a pretty long time to kill with early weapons and ammo for better weapons are rare. Being in moments when you have to think outside the box to survive a tough encounter is thrilling and scary. The weapons of the game are very fun to use. Throughout the game, you upgrade and get better versions of weapons which provides that satisfying feeling of progress. The enemies are also very well designed. When you start the game, the first enemies you encounter are pretty tough but aren't too hard to deal with, but they can easily overwhelm you with their numbers if you aren't careful. Enemies get harder and harder as the game progresses, with some enemies having special phases you have to deal with. This adds both variety and challenge to the game which makes playing through it a satisfying experience.

    The story feels like it exists to drive the gameplay along and I'm totally fine with that for this game. I think it works well as a thing you keep in the back of your mind while you play through the game. The settings you move through in the story are very pleasing to look at. I always felt like exploring around to find any valuables or supplies. There are documents you can read to get an idea of what's going on but they're not as engaging as the previous games which featured interesting little stories and expanded upon the lore. The characters are very humorous in my opinion. I love them to bits. I love how silly they are. I enjoyed every character interaction, which isn't common.

    Overall, Resident Evil 4 is a great game and definitely deserved the remake but the original still holds up to this day, even after the remake's release.    … Expand

    As someone who has just played this game for the first time I'd like to offer an alternative viewpoint as someone who isn't wearing nostalgia tinted glasses.     However, despite all of that RE4 has also aged badly in some ways. The tank like controls and inability to move while shooting just aren't fun in 2017. Also ther's far too many annoying quick time events and ill conceived difficulty spikes.
    Ultimately RE4 is a game that's as frustrating as it is fun but seems to get a free pass for it's faults from fan boys and critics. Anyone giving this a 10 or 9 in 2017 should be ashamed of themselves. It's good but far from the best action game ever.    … Expand

    This game may be (very) good storywise but the controls lack by todays standard in a way that it hurts the gameplay. I don't want to fight the camera nor the movement abilities to enjoy a game. Because this is an updated version I not only have expected prettier graphics but original flaws to be adressed aswell.

    Back in 2007, I did not appreciate the game and considered it a bad continuation of the franchise. However, after a squalid RE 7, this reinterpretation doesn't seem bad. Everything is fine in the game. Great atmosphere, environment, enemies, weapons, etc. Special thanks for fixing bugs of the original game.

    The only thing annoying is the inconvenient for 2018 game controls

    Es un buen port, el problema es que no va a 60 fps al hacer ciertas acciones como recargar el arma y la ausencia de un modo multijugador la verdad es que es una vergüenza.

At times the camera feels more frustrating than re remake or zero even. But I can't deny this was a memorable experience and one I hope to revisit in the future.     I hadn`t played this game in a long time and I was a bit disappointed, it is definitely not as good as I remembered it, most of the game did not age well and the PROs of this game are related to nostalgia. I think this port to PS4 deserves an 8, but the fact that it doesn't have a platinum trophy doesn't make me really want to play it again, that's why I give it a 7.

    Resident Evil 4 is an enjoyable game. At first I struggled with the controls, but once I got a handle on it, it was fine. The graphics weren't amazing, being an older game, even though they were enhanced. Despite all that, it was still a fun experience.

    I think this may be the most ported game ever... Dont get me wrong a fantastic game but definitely not worth buying again if you have already brought this game on a previous consoles. The graphics overhaul is nice but that's about all is added to this.

    Don't get me wrong this USED to be my go to game on PS2, Wii and PC, but sadly the dated clunky controls and limited combat mechanics have not aged well on the PS4. Just not fun to play any more and gaming has moved on from this outmoded style a play a long time ago. Visuals don't hold up to well either sad to say.

Not being able to move and shoot simultaneously is not a horror gimmick - it's just bad game design. The Castle stage is also quite monotonous,I loved this game to death on the PS2. And the Gamecube.     Gameplay.: This is the part were I truly was disappointed. I really like the boss fights. Most of them are still fun to play but those endless enemy waves. This is just another level. It sometimes is mixed up with puzzles but all in all there are way to many parts of the game were you just have to shoot one enemy wave after another. I was really anoyed after some time, especially during the last bits of the game and I just wanted to get it over with (the checkpoint system and clunky controls didn't help either). Don't get me wrong. As a whole it was still enjoyable but I just expected more out of it.

    Conclusion.: I really needed to push myself through this game after a while. The gameplay is fine as a whole but those million enemy waves were frustrating. The cutscenes were fun to watch and the atmosphere is still OK. I don't think you will miss out much though if you don't pick up the remaster. I would rather wait for a remake if capcom should release one.

    The game definitely doesn't meet expectations, the controls are confusing and the levels require gameplay techniques and a lot of attention that turn the game into something exhausting. Moreover, the character Ashley gets in the way of the story, since she always gets caught by zombies. The plot could be much more developed. Anyway, the game is very frustrating.

    While people complain of the remake being "woke?" none of it is woke, at all, even Solidrev on Youtube thinks you don't know what you're talking about. They removed maybe some cringe lines yes, like the famous ballistics but Leon still has some solid 1 liners in this game too. I guess they didn't want to make Luis look like a perv, Ashley is 16 after all.
    While I'm not bashing the original game for what it brought in terms of evolution to the series where RE5 really took full advantage of the twin stick method of shooting, while basing on what RE4 brought in terms of full camera control, the fact they didn't implement these type of gun control at the very least in this port of a PS4 game after the evolution of RE5 and RE6 is a pure cash grab with no efforts at all to improve the game what-so-ever.
    People could have enjoyed the original dialog and graphics with a modern twist in shooting mechanics but sadly this brings nothing new to the table where the Wii gun control did, so very low effort cash grab.

    I belong in a small group of gamers who used to play video games,stopped for a period and start again after years.
    So,I bought all the Resident Evil games which I didn't play when they were released. I must say that I am a huge fan of Resident Evil and Silent Hill series.
    I had stopped at Resident Evil 3 and last year I played Resident Evil 7. So I start with RES 4,RES 5 and finally the    I belong in a small group of gamers who used to play video games,stopped for a period and start again after years.
    So,I bought all the Resident Evil games which I didn't play when they were released. I must say that I am a huge fan of Resident Evil and Silent Hill series.
    I had stopped at Resident Evil 3 and last year I played Resident Evil 7.
    So I start with RES 4,RES 5 and finally the RES 6....
    Oh my God...
    The choice not to play these games It was a very good choice.
    My whole world collapse instantly just i started all the games.
    It was a terrible experience.
    From RES 4 to RES 5 and finally RES 6 it is unfair to say that there were not differences and improvements on graphics and animations but the plot and the games general become worst and worst.
    I was very lucky to stop playing video games these years.

    A list of things that i hated on RES 4.
    1. The change of the gaming style
    2. The luck of puzzles
    3. The bad voice overs
    4. The personalities of the characters
    5. The guns,so many guns for a Resident Evil game
    6. Terrible aiming

    One major flaw, NO PLATINUM TROPHY!! a simple copy paste job of the trophy list by Capcom from the PS3 version of the game.. beaten the games countless times already on PS2, please give us trophy hunters something rewarding!
    Sorry, Capcom says "f*ck you" in your face! A sh*t company who doesn't even bother to listen to fans..

    First, Lets start with the pros

    - Somewhat good story line - Cool main Character Now for the cons: - ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE GAME PLAY MECHANICS. for example: - rotating screen is non-functional - head shots only work 40% of the time - can't move when wielding A KNIFE - Aiming is also non-functional - Movement is only about half-functional Now back to the rest of the cons -    First, Lets start with the pros

    - Somewhat good story line
    - Cool main Character

    Now for the cons:

    - ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE GAME PLAY MECHANICS.
    for example:
    - rotating screen is non-functional
    - head shots only work 40% of the time
    - can't move when wielding A KNIFE
    - Aiming is also non-functional
    - Movement is only about half-functional
    Now back to the rest of the cons
    - Basic enemies are dumb and extremely repetitive
    - You die at completely unrealistic times
    - Shooting enemies from afar DOES NOT WORK
    - Middle of combat random cut scenes
    Oh, and did I mention that you CAN'T move with a KNIFE in hand
    and that rotating the camera with the right stick is HORRIBLE and USELESS

    Come on guys. If you reviewed this with anything higher than a 4 you are lying to yourself.
    Don't let nostalgia cover your mind up of it being a next to unplayable ported game.    … Expand

    - horrible graphics
    - horrible players
    - horrible gameplay
    - horrible zombie mode which is the whole game
    - even resident evil three was better

    This game was great over 10 years ago but now why is it even being released? It is quite clear that capcom is just releasing this game for a quick cash grab since they are doing it to 5 and 6 as well. This is just pathetic, the graphics are worse in this game than they are in Resident Evil Remake and zero. The story is awful and this is the start of the series taking a whole new turn whichThis game was great over 10 years ago but now why is it even being released?     Its your money but you couldn't give me this game for free, I wouldn't waste my time playing this nonsense, its pretty clear to me that people that like this game must be completely bored with the lack of choices of "next generation" games that are out now and allowing companies like capcom to sell them them washed up crap that was garbage to begin with. But hey, slap a remastered on anything this days and make a couple of million, but don't expect me to buy into it. Have fun playing nonsense.    … Expand

    One of the worst Resident Evil games, this is when the franchise started going downhill. No zombies, just stupid villagers and the horror has been replaced by mindless shooting.

    This francise needs to end already. This game is proof that resident evil is well past its expiration date. I got bored shooting zombies. That's how bad it is.

    Controls Sux! enemys using stupid dynamite, this is just very poor bad game. old,bad controls,very stupid enemys.. if u are gamer! and u used to play many games and u like new resident evil restribution 1 and 2.. then u will hate this one. i dont know why someone give this 8,9 or 10... its just unfair    Very Bad Game!! i bought it becasue 8.0 score! oh boy how wrong i was.

    This version aims only for the one or two persons in the world that haven’t played the game yet. Besides the 1080p resolution and the 60 fps framerate, it is still a lazy port.

    Resident Evil 4 is still a great experience. It still is one of the best entries of the whole Resident Evil franchise. 1080p and 60 FPS turns the game into a smooth thriller even if it is still not a full remake.
