Disappointing that Capcom have cut the B scenarios, there is a 2nd run that you can play with some remixed puzzles and item placement however the story is the same as your previous 1st run. Where this really causes issues is that the Leon and Claire scenarios don't compliment each other. Also the loss of the marshalling yard loses a link to RE0

You will search for the lever that unlocks the handle to get the key to find the part that opens the safe under a bookshelf that has the card reader to turn the statue to get the ID that unlocks the chess piece----ad nauseam! Then do it all again in the sewer! Running in circles for endless map puzzle fetch quests can get old fast in such confined quarters. A few satisfying ah-ha! moments have you unlocking a vital shortcut back to earlier areas, powering up weapons, and of course, blasting a few dozen zombies along the way is great; but the lovingly implemented improvements don't best the tedium still at this game's core. You could rent & finish this in a day or two. And Re4 is still much more fun to play at a fraction of the price. Expand

    Sorry for my bad English.

Nothing special. Monotonous gameplay. Сomplexity is created by the slowness of the protagonist. The plot is weak. But most annoying is the need to constantly return to old locations.

A good remake weighed down by
limitations of the original. Although faithfull to the original, the game is a bland game for 2021 in terms of variety of situations and mechanics.

-Zombies. Too many Zombies. Shooting them 10 times and they're still charging at me. Backtracking to same old space with no ammo and immortal zombies basically.

    Summary
    -------------
The graphics, music and acting were top notch. Unfortunately, the game's difficulty was changed to become more frustrating. It wasn't a positive for me since it made me stop playing. I don't enjoy going online reading walkthroughs to find a solution because zombies take 30 bullets to kill and they can get back up. The puzzles were fantastic but what's the point when Mr.X is running after you for 33% of the game. Had they limited the time he was chasing you , it could've been excellent game.

The graphics and gameplay are mostly stunning and excellent. This is top-tier quality.

The downsides are where it gets interesting. Some of them have been carried over due to the age of the original game. For example, there is much backtracking to open doors once you've obtained the relevant keys etc. In modern-day gaming this comes across as rather repetitive and lazy, cheaply increasing the length of the game.

Secondly, there is an invincible enemy or two who randomly appears and stalks you throughout a large part of the game. At first this is quite startling and unnerving in the fun sense, however it quickly becomes grating, as he can also cause you to backtrack a lot to escape or waste precious ammo in stalling him until you can escape. This is also surprising as Resident Evil 7 had the same issue and I'm surprised they didn't learn from that.

Finally, the zombies themselves, or specifically their impressive and frustrating ability to absorb bullets like raindrops. It makes some sense to discourage us from fighting every single zombie, however it also becomes tedious and frustrating that I have to expend 6 or 7 bullets to ensure a zombie is permanently neutralised. This is not practical and is not enjoyable.

While I was playing this an observer noted that "it needs more action" and I think they were right. There is too much banal content that was accepted 20 years ago due to the limitations of technology. Perhaps Capcom did not want to stray too far from the source material, but I'm a firm believer in rose-tinted glasses needing to be removed. I could have enjoyed this game so much more and I am glad it was a gift because it really is not worth the launch price. Wait until it is £20 or less.

Don't mind the different view although would have preferred the original way, not convinced with the change of characters especially Chief Irons. Is it a perfect marriage? Or does it make the mistake of trying to appeal to everyone and thusly appeal to no one. I don't want to seem pretentious so I'm just gonna lay all my cards out on the table and say I don't think it was a great idea trying to do both. Shooting enemies in the game is unsatisfying. Every enemy is very bullet spongy, because the designers clearly wanted the player to not be able to kill every enemy they come across. So very obviously they wanted players to get used to playing something like REmake 1 where you planned you route, learn to juke zombies, and speedrun as fast as you can to the finish by learning the layout. This should have been fixed camera like the classics in my opinion because the third person camera lends itself to action but the gameplay doesn't. The good thing about the action oriented RE games is that the combat in those games are fun on their own and you could play those games just for that and it would be a satisfying experience. Combat in RE2make is very not fun. You're supposed to avoid combat at all costs if you can. The meta of the game is just avoid all enemies and sprint to the finish which makes the replay value of the game very diminished after you learn how to do this. I completed the game twice on Standard, then twice on Professional, then did the 4th survivor plus Tofu Survivor before I wrote this review. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. While this game is fun and at multiple point I found myself playing for House because I was enjoying it so much, I ran into some annoying parts that messed up the flow of the game. For me, when Tyrant shows up, the game takes a small dip in the fun factor. I go from a lot of enjoyment to annoyance with this huge gray guy that I can’t kill and teleports all around the station and restricts my ability to explore the station - which was my favorite part. You should in no way play this game for the story by the way, cuz it’s real bad. The most fun parts are the moments where the fear sits in when you’re exploring the zombie ridden police station. There were so many parts I was just blown away by how much I actually wanted to explore everything!

Wer frischen, inspirierten B-Movie Horror sucht, sollte sich eher einmal ein The Evil Within 2 anschauen.

There are some highly impressive things about this remake, like the use of volumetric lighting, the binaural sounds that should be a new standard in games, or even such small details as that amazing intro animation of a trucker eating a burger.

However, when you get over the first two hours, and learn the level design, and the effective way of gameplay, instead of having some feeling of satisfaction from accomplishment in that genre defining constantly increasing survival horror pressure, everything becomes repetitive, boring, and slowly falling into a routine that won't change until the end of the game.
