I'm not in the majority with this opinion, but this is a boring puzzle game that teases you with great shooting mechanics and barely any zombies to shoot. I hope you like shooting bosses though, plenty of them. This is a testament to why 3-6 progressively cranked up the action to the umpteenth degree.

I LOVE the original Resident Evil 2 on PlayStation. The original is the pinnacle of the RE franchise in my opinion, but this remake was a slog to get through and the thought of a second playthrough is scarier to me than the game itself. Game is extremely boring. Weak story, few dialogs, bad combat design, repetitiveness and a lot of back tracking.
Objectively average game has too many flaws, that’s why high scores are given only by blind fans, not by people who have never played original game.

P.S. RE3 remake did way better work than this.

Resident Evil 2 Remake is interesting, but it's not a remake at all. This game is Resident Evil 7, it looks like Resident Evil 2, the important places of the game, important and special types, the original version of this remake is removed. It's interesting that the new camera was not made for Resident Evil 2. Disappointing and awful remake

Wer frischen, inspirierten B-Movie Horror sucht, sollte sich eher einmal ein The Evil Within 2 anschauen.

Constant profanity... get a thesaurus, Capcom. There was no swearing in the original.

This is made by people who thought the original game was bad. They wanted to change every thing they could. These are not Leon and Claire. This is not Resident Evil 2. The correct word here would be imposter. This game is an imposter and its characters are imposters.

Game play is fun for a while, until you get to a boss fight, then you will want to pull your hair out. I only play on Hardcore. I have never played on any other difficulty because then you don't get the ink ribbon and inventory experience of the original. Couldn't they have left those in tact while just making the bosses easier? Any why can't I break free from a zombie by mashing buttons, like in the original? Why can't I stomp a grounded zombies head, like in the original?

I beat it twice, but I don't think I will ever play it again, unless there is a mod to make the bosses not suck.

By the time I got around to play it, the game and its design were a thing of the past. I enjoyed the game immensely however. Tank controls? No problem, I got used to them after an hour or two. It works well for the original games. The game was loaded with content, plenty of scares, fun characters and an interesting yet easy to follow plot. When I first heard of the remake I was thrilled, just like many others were. CAPCOM has recently being doing things right and with the success of a great game like Monster Hunter, what could go wrong?

The first thing I noticed was the plain ugly main menu. It's generic with the font all fighting games have nowadays. You can thank "e-sports"(lo) for that contribution. I started the game on "Hardcore" not because I think I am, but because the other difficulty settings don't require ink ribbon to save. The mode seems more as an afterthought or damage control to keep the real fans placated.

I chose to start the game as Leon, but something was off. Here we have a foul mouthed character who curses every time he fires his weapon. I hate gratuitous cursing, but I hate blatant and obnoxious blasphemy even more. There are subtitles in the game where "God" is misspelled. I had to play the game with the voice volume turned off. I just could not stand it. It broke immersion for me. I wanted to be the one getting scared, be the one to react. Not have Leon constantly remind me of it with an avalanche of profanity. The game is loaded with profane language. After "killing" a scripted boss Leon simply says "take that you overgrown son of a b****!". Who talks like that? Teens? Claire jumps into a sewer and says "now I will literally smell like s***.". These characters cannot complete a sentence without cursing. It's a rated M game yeah I know, that doesn't mean it has to be retarded though.

The gameplay didn't start to get boring to me until the 6th or 7th hour of the campaign. The game just isn't that scary for me. It's definitely a notch above Resident Evil 5 and 6 in terms of horror. Mr.X is the only thing that more or less injects some much needed fear into this. He could have worked better if he did something else other than grab and slam or punch you. People made such a huge deal about Mr.X, as if he was anything close to the Xenomorhp chasing you in Alien Isolation. Now that is something to crap your pants over.

Maybe the game was meant to be played on normal because "hardcore" seems really tough, but not in a good way. Navigating through the game can be done on auto-pilot, there is the illusion that it's an old school RE game, but it's not. It's pretty straight forward and the puzzles are on the easy side. CAPCOM had the right idea with it, but they clearly didn't want to exclude everyone who isn't a die hard RE fan. So the game has an identity crisis, retain the few old school fans and sell to everyone else at the same time. Aside from the graphics, this game does everything else from mediocre to standard. The jack of all trades, but master of none. This game has no soul, but nobody is going to agree. Everyone wants RE to succeed and I do too, but not if it means lying to myself. I decided to try Claire's campaign, this time on normal. Turns out that the two campaigns are almost identical. I thought CAPCOM has said this would not be the case, or something to that effect, what a letdown.

Something else I would like to add is that you can't skip the death cutscenes. You have to watch them every time you die. Worst part is that it they are in 30FPS. There is now a texture mod for the original RE2. Give that a go, suffer the controls for a bit and the dated graphics. After a few hours you won't even care or notice it. What you'll find in it is a game with soul and love. A game that is truly challenging, engaging and scary. Not this modern crap.

A really well done remake. However, the game has very stressful points that made me lose my pleasure in playing. The first point is that the characters are very dumb. Another very annoying point is that zombies are almost immortal. To a creature with rotten and weak flesh, they appear to be too strong. A shot or two at most should be enough to kill a zombie. When the brain is hit, body activity is over, nothing else works. The game also has very exaggerated enemies, some seem too forced. I don't see what all the hype is about. It's a well-executed Resident Evil game. There's nothing particularly special or original about it. Compared to RE7 which was a true masterpiece 9/10 and truly revolutionary, RE2 remake is like the title, just a standard remake. It really doesn't go beyond that.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. While this game is fun and at multiple point I found myself playing for House because I was enjoying it so much, I ran into some annoying parts that messed up the flow of the game. For me, when Tyrant shows up, the game takes a small dip in the fun factor. I go from a lot of enjoyment to annoyance with this huge gray guy that I can’t kill and teleports all around the station and restricts my ability to explore the station - which was my favorite part. You should in no way play this game for the story by the way, cuz it’s real bad. The most fun parts are the moments where the fear sits in when you’re exploring the zombie ridden police station. There were so many parts I was just blown away by how much I actually wanted to explore everything! When I look past the annoying Tyrant and some of the enemies, this is a pretty good game on it’s own right. Expand

Disappointing that Capcom have cut the B scenarios, there is a 2nd run that you can play with some remixed puzzles and item placement however the story is the same as your previous 1st run. Where this really causes issues is that the Leon and Claire scenarios don't compliment each other. Also the loss of the marshalling yard loses a link to RE0

This game is probably the best remake of all time as of now, but that does not change the fact that it is a remake. I am not a fan of survival horror where you can shoot things, I am more stressed about limited inventory space and lack of ammo than the "scary" things in the game. Less enemies and more puzzles or set pieces would probably make for a game I greatly enjoy

Why couldn't they just do what they did with RE1 remake except give it the over the shoulder camera and better controls... why do head shots not count more than leg shots? If you absolutely love RE then go 4 it, but this game disappointed me by far. If you want to shoot legs off zombies and run around the whole game to avoid the crawlers have fun! Ok finally received the full version December 2019. I think I actually prefer the fast paced over the top mindless action nonsense that was Resident Evil 6. Nostalgia trickery just does not cut it. So this remake really needed to up its game, but comes across as a less crappy looking version of the crappy Revelations series.

Worst portrayal of Leon and Ada to date due to mediocre voice actors. Slow paced and boring padding due to inventory management back tracking to storage chests. Combat not even a patch on Dead Space or The Evil Within. Boss set pieces seen it all done before and better. Story not even original just a remake.

The movement seriously this dated and this limited? Even original RE 1 to 5 had a 180 turn movement. Turning in this game is SO slow. Running in this game is SO slow. You know like if these people were obese geriatric asthmatics, but these are like very young fit looking people. Hell even crappy Revelation series had a immersive Alan Wake type dodge mechanic. Limited movement + bullet sponge = lazy contrived difficulty.

What was with the jank door opening and the general awful camera issues when fighting Lickers. The environments looked visually unimpressive for the most part. Technically other than those few issues the game ran really well. With only one crash on the Claire story line.

That tank stalker type character just isn't scary or intimidating. I found it more annoying than anything else. Again that type of character has been done better in other games.

Well at least RE2 remake is better than Umbrella Corps and Revelations series, oh deary me. Mildly entertaining in places with my brain on auto pilot and zoned out for the most part.

-Zombies. Too many Zombies. Shooting them 10 times and they're still charging at me. Backtracking to same old space with no ammo and immortal zombies basically.

The graphics, music and acting were top notch. Unfortunately, the game's difficulty was changed to become more frustrating. It wasn't a positive for me since it made me stop playing. I don't enjoy going online reading walkthroughs to find a solution because zombies take 30 bullets to kill and they can get back up. The puzzles were fantastic but what's the point when Mr.X is running after you for 33% of the game. Had they limited the time he was chasing you , it could've been excellent game.
