    Despite having a lot in common with the Payday series, this new insallment holds its ground thanks to brilliant character design, amazing setting and glorious massacres of Nazis.

    An unusual approach to WWII games, Raid is a FPS based on the PayDay model. 4 player coop brings some fun moments, but technical failures (especially concerning AI and graphics) ruin the experience.

    RAID: World War II is PAYDAY 2 in World War II. It has so many problems with the framerate, and the graphic design looks like its from the PS3 era. We are looking forward a lot of updates.

    Even with all its flaws, major and minor, the game is filled with moments of hilarity and high tension. Playing alone or with friends, the simplistic mission design that always has you sneaking about or sprinting for your life is a blast to take part in. There’s a deluge of customization options that is only matched by the Payday games and the humor is surprisingly consistent. RAID: World War II can be frustrating at times, but there’s a lot of fun to be had with friends.

    Overall, I really like the theme and setting of RAID: WWII, especially considering its irreverent tone that evokes memories of Inglorious Basterds. But even though I’m a sucker for all things WWII, the bullet-spongy enemies, lackluster unlocks and customization, and poor mission variety don’t excite me enough to want to play beyond a few rounds. And while it’s putting the cart before the horse, without a strong community of users to drop into a raid with, there’s even less reason to stick it to Nazi Germany in this particular instance. Very little in RAID: WWII is absurdly broken or flawed, but its mediocrity makes it a missed opportunity to create a highly replayable co-op game within the WWII shooter genre.

    ​Nothing new to see here. RAID it's just an uninspired game, with awful graphics and repetitive missions. Even in coop it is unable to provide enough fun. Avoid it.

    Raid World War 2 is a co-op shooter that can be played solo with 3 other ai controlled partners or online with up to 3 other players...
    You start choosing your class with your preferred weapon, you then choose one of 4 characters from your preferred country, and you get to raiding
    The idea of raid is a good one, there are 15 missions total... 6 operative missions that are objective based like killing a target or interfering with radio frequencies…
    And there are 9 raid missions which I felt are the much better parts of this game where you’ll be doing a variety of breaking and entering, collecting intel gold, or stealing a train…
    Completing missions or failing missions will give you different cut scenes of Hitler either happy or angry at the outcome, and you’re awarded xp to level up your character to unlock new perks and unlock perk cards for the different mission types with their own advantages and disadvantages to better suit your play style… you alter all of these things back at your camp which is where you choose your mission or hop into an ongoing mission…
    All of this sounds great…
    But poor gameplay makes all of this great mean nothing…
    Raid world war ii is a complete mess…
    shooting is stiff and clunky, enemies are far too easily alarmed, there’s real no enemy variety.. It’s just soldier or spongey soldier with a flame thrower that gives no indication they are even taking damage…
    They’ll walk over and on top of boxes like they aren’t even there making the stealth approach practically useless
    in missions are there are crates around with medical supplies for healing and ammo, and your teammates do a great job at reviving you which is all fine..
    But the missions structure just isn’t fun
    it’s a lot of get to an area, interact with an item and wait a little over a minute for the countdown to go down to move on and just do it again and again and again until the mission is over…
    thankfully the 9 raid missions are different enough to not make this feel like a complete drag.. But while in mission... you just want the never ending waiting to be over, as the gunplay in between these moments of interacting are just not fun…
    there’s no feeling of satisfaction or a knife through warm butter feeling a great first person shooter should give…
    and the game is littered with bugs… one bug freezing my character into place and had me flying around the room while I was getting shot.. I had to turn off my controller and turn it on again to get out of this lock…
    The game also crashed on me while trying to join a session which is bad enough on its own... made worst by this game forcing you to watch a choppy cut scene every time you start the game up like its 1996
    And after the game crashed the button to interact with the mission select or any of the upgrade tables wasn’t responding forcing me to back out into the menu and rejoin…
    RAID World War 2 is a cool concept, with poor execution

    Great game especially with friends. Great take on ww2 and an all round joy to play would recommend to any one looking for a coop game to play

    Raid WW2 on PS4 is one big jar of marmite, you might want to like it or want to loath it but regardless of your taste, there’s no mistakingRaid WW2 on PS4 is one big jar of marmite, you might want to like it or want to loath it but regardless of your taste, there’s no mistaking that what you get when you buy Raid is a large dollop of smelly brown stuff. On one hand the full-on FPS action with tongue in cheek humour is a nice departure from the mainstream take on WW2 shooters. On the other hand though is a game destined to failure due to developer’s greed and utter indifference to quality control and customer satisfaction.

    Prior to the 5GB early patch being downloaded, the entire game was an absolute mess of head-ache inducing lagging, glitching and stuttering during every second of the action. Even after the 5GB patch, the missions in the second half of the game still lag so badly that you’re eyes can’t actually see what’s going on. It’s simply not playable. The game crashes at the end of missions about 40% of the time so you lose all bonuses that you collected as you trudged your way through. It is so bad that the developers must have known that the game was utterly unplayable before release - but they released it anyway and they clearly expect the public to hand over their cash for unfinished, poorly coded garbage.

    It’s a real shame that consumer-rights laws don’t target developers over this sort of thing, if they did, the games industry might just change for the better. As it stands, even after the 5GB patch the developers have failed to deliver a playable game and the standard of what they’re offering here is criminal. If you don't have a reliable internet connection to download the patch and if you had hoped to play the game solo offline (which you can do with the remaining 3 characters controlled by AI), stay well clear of this game.

    The developers and publishers involved in this deserve to be looking for another job. One unconnected with the games industry.

    UPDATE 22/10/17: It's now some time after release and there has been no attempt from Lion Game Lion to patch this mess. The game is still glitching and crashing frequently. I tried to stick with it and fought through a level on hard mode to win extra XP, only for the game to crash at the completion screen at the end of the level. This game is an absolute disgrace and doesn't deserve the time or investment from any player.    … Full Review »
