Prehistoric Dude captures the style of old school gaming, with its retro 2D look that I grew up with. It is different in its own way but it still reminds me of the classic game Wonder Boy. Yes you have a hatchet and throw it at enemies and collect fruit but unfortunately there is no skateboard. That's really the only thing it has in common as with Prehistoric Dude you have the ability to jump and hold on to ledges, double jump in the air, swim underwater, push rocks to advance to higher parts and so on. These abilities are unlocked as you progress throughout the game and there is a bunch of them to collect.
The story is of Dude, the caveman you play as. His nice big juicy ham has been stolen by a Dinosaur, yes you read right, a Dinosaur. You are now on a mission to get it back. The game is short but does offer a great experience in this short time. It's not all about jumping, killing and dodging enemies to advance, some sections of the game require you to unlock gates by pressing all the switches either by activating them yourself or pushing a rock onto them. Other areas require you to kill all the enemies in that part to unlock the gate which at times can be difficult if you run out of hatchets. Throughout the game you will notice some gates locked and require a silver key, so off you go looking for the key. These gates will let you progress further into the games and reach a boss fight with a Dinosaur for that section of the game and ultimately get to the final Dinosaur that has your ham, will you have what it takes to get it back?
Overall its a short game like stated above, but is very enjoyable. With the extra elements as described to complete the game, there are also objects to collect for trophies or gamer score, depending on what platform you are playing on.
I recommend this fun travel back in time!… Expand
