    Unplayable since launch. After a patch there are still multiple problems such as lag during combat, unresponsive characters, characters moving elsewhere other than to place commanded during combat, menu issues, incredibly long (over 2 mins at times) loading screens which can reduce playing time to 10s at a time... I mean, why have I persisted playing this game for that long it’s a mystery.Unplayable since launch.     Just constant crashing, same as Versus Evils other releases, like the POE on switch release. Please stop using them Obsidian

    I love the game, really. But the game keeps on crashing. Moreover, there are various bugs that make the game nearly unplayable. The game needs to be patched.

    Ok, First of all i would like to say Pillars of Eternity 2 Deadfire is the great rpg game, but this port is just unplayable!
    its always CE-34878-0 crash error. Most often it happens then you are at fight. Im playin in turn based mode. (dont khow how it works in real time option)

    i did reinstall the game, then i reinstall it to external hard drive, and then i made initialization for my ps4 pro deliting all data, but nothing helps! I've got no problems with other games.
    In Obsidian forum guys have the same problems and many more
    So many quests incompliteble becouse of it
    I just dont want to tell about the longest loading screans in my life

    There's a lot to like here, and I do mean a lot. My total playtime was 141 hours to platinum. The narrative and dialog that Obsidian is known for is present here. The story is very good, and raises questions of self-determination and the need for gods. Reminds me a lot of the "Lord of Light." Makes one think. There's plenty of dialog to read, and it's mostly pretty good if somewhatThere's a lot to like here, and I do mean a lot. My total playtime was 141 hours to platinum. Makes one think. There's plenty of dialog to read, and it's mostly pretty good if somewhat prosaic at times. The characters are grounded and talk like real people, which I think is great, but can be off-putting if you like over the top whacky characters like Borderlands. There's also an enormous amount of interactivity in the dialog, where npcs will react to even minor nuances or choices that you made earlier, and there will be many additional dialog options that are dependent upon various skills and backgrounds. This game has maybe the most robust dialog trees I've ever seen.

    The world-building, and particularly the combat system, are fantastic. They've created a ruleset mirroring dnd that is excellent. The combat rules are better than 5th edition imo, and very balanced. I found it difficult to cheese this game. This console port has tons of small bugs though. Fights can sometimes be a mess with issues with targeting and pathing. Huge issue with giving commands to characters and them running around and breaking formation. Combat gets a little repetitive towards the end of the game. Enemy encounters are not as consistently versatile and interesting as Divinity Original Sin 2, which is the gold standard.

    This game has a very rigorous reputation system that not only tracks your level of morale with each party member, but also their relationships with each other, and also keeps a log of each incident and remark that affected the relationship. This is in addition to the standard assortment of faction relationships you can build.

    There are many encounters where you are given a variety of open-ended non-combat choices in how you can proceed. They play out similar to a choose your own adventure book. They really expand upon the experience, and make the game feel like a proper dnd adventure.

    Need to emphasize how bad pathing can be. Party members will take completely unexpected routes breaking your formations, pushing your other characters out of the way. Also, sometimes you can't change their movement until they reach their destination for some reason. It's like they get stuck on some waypoint and won't accept commands until they reach it. This is terrible for tactical combat.

    DLCs are very good. Especially Forgotten Sanctum, which I consider a 10/10.

    In summary, the RPG parts of Deadfire are very well done, but the overall product is hurt by various GUI and interface bugs that often crop up.    … Expand

    On the one hand, the sheer quality of the game is evident in bounds, and as a homage to the mighty Baldur's Gate, it continues on the excellent trajectory set down by its predecessor. On the other hand, those loading times really are so bad that I neither enjoy my time with the game, nor want to play it. Of course, a patch could resolve that and then the main criticism of the review would be rendered redundant. Sadly, I do need to review what's placed in front of me, and you're all better off playing Baldur's Gate again than slogging through this in its current state.

    If players are willing to take Pillars of Eternity II at its own pace, then they will find a wondrous RPG. Pillars of Eternity II was unjustly overlooked in 2018, and hopefully this rerelease will open the door to new players. Those expecting something as snippy as The Outer Worlds, however, will find something a lot slower, albeit with just as strong writing and care.
