    Pros:
    - Loveable (for the most part), different characters
    - Intriguing story
    - Very well thought-out combat
    - Lots of different options to increase your social stats, so it's not just braindead farming untitl everything is maxed out. You can read books, play video games, go to the gym, the cinema, take part in burger eating competitions and lots of other things.
    - Great enemy design: Apart from bosses pretty much every minor as well as major enemy has a weakness that you can use to either negotiate to make them join you as a Persona for you to use or extort them for money or items. Bosses however are a different thing as most of them don't have a weakness, but you can still inflict status ailments on them and have a chance for a technical which basically works like "hit the weakness" attack, but with a lot more damage under certain circumstances.

    Cons:
    - You can't skip cut- and story scenes, all you can do is fast forward
    - You can revive everyone else, but if your main dies it's game over which is especially annoying in the early parts of the game because enemies can basically one-shot you like this.
    - Some characters join you really late in the game so they're naturally far behind on confidant levels which of course not a game breaker, but still a bit annoying since some of them only stay for a while.

    TL;DR
It's a fanastic game and if you're into turn-based rpgs this is the one where you absolutely get your moneys worth. I've spend well over 200 hours on Persona 5 and my playthroug on Persona 5 Royal will probably also be around 100 hours. Platinum included, but still.

Everything from the characters, the style, the music and the combat instantly clicked with me. Certainly not a flawless masterpiece, but its issues are pretty easy to ignore when everything else is of such high quality. Hearing the announcement of an updated re-release of the game with new content, characters and quality of life changes made excited all over again. I'm happy to say that Persona 5 Royal is still well worth the purchase, especially if you haven't played the original up to this point.

The core story of P5R is essentially the same as last time. You play as a ragtag team of misfits that gain incredible abilities and use them to change the hearts of corrupted adults. You explore various dungeons within an allotted time period, while also juggling your school work and social life. There are many unique additions made to the story, however. There's a new girl in town named Kasumi, a gymnastics prodigy, and Dr. Maruki, the newly hired school councilor. While not going into spoilers, the two slowly begin to play an integral role in the story. There are also new places to explore around the city with new hangout spots for you and your friends, and a few of the characters even have updated arcs that you can engage with. There were even improvements made to the localization and additional dialogue was recorded where needed. Following the completion of vanilla, you will also be treated to an additional month and dungeon, adding on another 10+ hours of gameplay. The same story issues that were present in the original (excessive repetition, forced drama, overly explaining things) are sadly still present in Royal, but they don't ruin what is ultimately an engaging, character-driven narrative filled with some of the most likeable and fun characters in an RPG. Voice acting continues to remain top notch and the incredible soundtrack is still a joy to listen to.

The changes also extend to the gameplay as well. As far as dungeons are concerned, they aren't too heavily modified outside of the addition of grappling hooks (which honestly don't add to much but does aid in sneaking up on enemies), and hidden Will Seeds that you can collect and exchange later for items. Battles, on the other hand, have received a noticeable upgrade. The baton pass mechanic that allows you to switch to other party members after exploiting a weakness is now unlocked from the get-go rather than building up confidants with each party member to unlock them. There are also several new stylish showtime attacks where two party members can pull of a powerful, often ridiculous finisher that can deal serious damage to enemies. The combat was already great before, but these additions make it all that much sweeter. The Velvet Room has also received a few new upgrades. There's a new Alarm fusion mechanic where, every time an alarm goes off, you have the chance to fuse together more powerful personas. The catch here is that you can only perform each type of fusion once before things start to get unpredictable. There are also additional challenges you can complete in the Velvet Room that offer additional rewards. The procedurally generated dungeon Mementos introduces Jose, a kid that will offer you items and buffs in exchange for flowers and stamps scattered about (as well as the aforementioned Will Seeds). He's not really integral to the story, he's simply there to make exploration and leveling up much easier while you're down there. Max out EXP percentage gain as early as possible. It will make level grinding so much easier. Sad to say, however, that you can no longer cheese the Reaper (boo).

Persona 5 Royal is everything that made the original great made even better. It is by far the best version of the game, and anybody who hasn't already experienced it should definitely do so, especially if this is your first time experiencing the game. It remains as one of the best RPGs of its generation, and high bar for other JRPGs to meet.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Royal was a great expansion for the game that fixes many of the smaller problems of the game while adding in a new section of the game. These fixes include Will Seeds, Jose in Mementos, and more opportunities to level up social stats. While I agree that $60 for a rerelease that doesn't add in $60 worth of content isn't worth it for many people. but I don't consider price point as a factor for the quality of a game. The new character additions were a great add, but I'm sure many wished for more time with her and Akechi than what was actually given.

Speaking of fixes, the Will Seeds were great for people who liked to complete the palace in a single day, and were great to add in different effects as an accessory too. Mementoes in the original game felt boring and just another activity to put off, but in Royal they completely fixed that by Jose's stamp system allowing easy XP and money when combined with Ryuji's Instakill ability. The grappling hook was a nice addition, but served no significant purpose other than just a style factor. Furthermore, the addition of persona traits truly appeals to players who love fusing to create the perfect powerhouse persona. Along with that, the new battle mechanics such as disaster shadows, an improved technical damage system, baton pass improvements, and showtimes were all wonderful additions to the game.

Maruki was a well-designed villain that really differed against the typical targets of the Phantom Thieves. He added a nice ambiguity of a moral decision of fake happiness. The added music in his palace truly fits with his theme and the music added just from Royal only supplemented the emotional ideology within Maruki. His ideology with the struggles of the team really created an internal struggle within the player.

More of a good thing is just plain good. The third trimester really ramped the story up to the height of a persona game. More places to hang out and more friends to make. Somehow they added another 40 hours of content. Just an absolute joy to come back to persona 5.

I am glad I was too lazy to buy Persona 5 when it came out, because this version feels so amazing. I haven't really gotten far enough to review the story itself. All the characters are pretty likable, though I do kinda dislike that damn cat, but that's a personal thing. The combat is really fun, exploration is about on par with other persona games I've played. I feel that if I'd actually played P5 I might review this abit lower, I've talked to a friend who has played both and he's not as sold on Royal, but as a new-comer to this game, I think it's amazing. Music, story, graphics, style, all of it so far is pretty on point, there are a few little nit-picks I have here and there, but they're so small, they really don't take anything away from the game as a whole. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Here's what most people say: "Oh! Persona 5 is the best game in the series! This game is a must buy! You must play it. The characters are memorable and the story is amazing!"
    Here's me: "Persona 2, 3, and 4 is better."

I'm sorry, but I can't stand people kissing the game's butt for being the Greatest Game of All Time. Because honestly, it's one of the most overhyped and overrated Persona game in the series. Not to say it's bad, it's an alright persona game, but not the best one in the series.

    Pros:
    Soundtrack:
Let's start with the soundtrack. Every persona games has a theme in their series. Persona 3 was rap and Persona 4 was J-Pop. In Persona 5, the game's theme this time is Jazz. And I gotta say. Some of the soundtracks are very catchy, if not, better than Persona 3 and 4. Even the battle theme Last Surprise, which it has become a meme to death and you'll never get it out of your head.

    Gameplay:
There's one thing that I will admit is that the gameplay has improved drastically, if not, the best in the series. No more you have to fight blob-like enemies in combat. This time, you get to fight and make a great return of battling traditional demons from the previous SMT games & Persona 1 & 2. This feels a big breath of fresh air to the series since they were absent from Persona 3 & 4. All I can say is that I'm glad they're back. And with 3 new elements: Psychic, Nuke, and Gun. These are great new additions to the game and they're welcomed.

    Art Style:
This game has drastically got an improved art style starting from character sprites, to character portrats, to animation. These are visually impressive upgrade from the P3 & P4 era.

    Cons:
    Characters:
Now that we got the positives out of the way, let's get to the negatives. Starting with the characters. I absolutely HATED these characters. All of them are unlikable comparing to characters from previous Persona games. Persona 3's characters made you feel sympathetic. Persona 4's characters made you feel light hearted and always give you a big smile. Persona 5's characters are terrible, so bad that it makes me want to grab them from the screen and punch them, mostly Ryuji because he won't shut up & keep on exposing themselves they're the Phantom Thieves.

    Story:
I gotta say this up front. Persona 5's story has the WORST story in the series. At least for the main story. Because in the Royal's story, there was new content that wasn't in the original. And honestly, it should've focused on THAT STORY because it's at least original and had a better plot twist instead of the actual main story and Maruki is a better villain and an unexpected plot twist than Yaldabaoth. But nowhere near as iconic as Adachi nor Nyx. As for the main story, and I'm gonna say this without triggering you. The story of Persona 5 feels like a rehash of Persona 4. They reused the same idea as Persona 3 & 4: someone who works at school dies, a member of your group is the traitor, the final boss is a god it's the same. And it's tiring. At least Royal did something new. Also, the game has a number of plot holes. Like, the arc with Madarame. They've found legitimate proof that the art has been plargiarized & abused his students. Why didn't they use this proof to the police? I guess plot convenience?

    Overall:
All I can say this: Persona 3 has better Story. Persona 4 has the best characters. And Persona 5 has the best gameplay. Persona 2 is the best of both worlds, but Persona 2 was a very outdated game that I can't count it. While it's not the worst in the series, I think it's not the best either. I enjoyed it, but not like other Persona games.

Persona 5 Royal allows players to experience the story they already love in a new way without losing any of the beauty from the original game. New and old characters get their chance to shine through and steal your heart, even the ones you never expected to. You’ll laugh, you’ll cry, and maybe you’ll even feel a sense of justice for the infamous Phantom Thieves in the end. But one thing you won’t feel is regret in picking up Persona 5 Royal, as it’s truly the best Persona title, if not one of the best video games, I’ve ever experienced to date.

All of the new additions and content mean that Persona 5 Royal is a clear upgrade to the original. New players should seek this version without hesitation, although vets may find starting the game over from scratch to be too big an ask. Either way, there’s no doubt that Persona 5 Royal sits proudly on the throne of Peak Persona… or at least it will until Atlus decides they can do even more with it.
