It is certainly, the best game of the year (for me), even though the major part of the game you already know and already played in Persona 5, it brings new mechanisms and new characters to the story, this makes the game look a totally new one.
    I wish that Kasumi was a playable character (like in Persona 3, that we have a male and a female carather to play,and different characters and stories for each), it would definitely bring a new vision to the game, and explain more of her story (because she have a deep background that could be better used in the game).
    And I have to emphasize the great soundtrack that Shoji Meguro does, it's amazing and complete, I'm a big fan of his work.    … Expand

    Literally perfect, best PS4 game and a true masterpiece. The original was already amazing and this version improves upon it and adds great new content. The new arc and it's characters have the best writing in all of the Persona series. If you own a PS4 this is a must have.

    Persona 5 Royal is one of, if not the, best JRPGs ever made. Having platinumed the original Persona 5 two years ago, I went into persona 5 royal hoping for slight changes to gameplay that would essentially make it a better replaythrough. There are so many minor changes throughout the game that make the characters feel more alive, or fix even the smallest issues that I had with the basePersona 5 Royal is one of, if not the, best JRPGs ever made. Having platinumed the original Persona 5 two years ago, I went into persona 5 royal hoping for slight changes to gameplay that would essentially make it a better replaythrough. There are so many minor changes throughout the game that make the characters feel more alive, or fix even the smallest issues that I had with the base game, such as completely overhauling the mementos mega dungeon, that made me thoroughly enjoy replaying through the game. If that was all there was to the game, I would agree with many of the people on this website leaving disgruntled reviews that this game is not worth $60 to someone who has played the base game. I think there is some validity in that the game maybe should cost less to those who payed for the base game and that areas like Okumura's palace were not truly fixed; however, the third semester content utterly shocked me in how well both the characters and situations were written. Without going into any spoilers, Persona has managed has managed to make me completely rethink my concepts of Justice and the idea of moving towards the future. Thematically, royal just works. I personally thought the original ending felt lackluster and the characters' behaviors didn't really make logical sense after all they had been through together, but with the changes made in royal, I believe the ending is actually the BEST portion of the entire game now. Finally, I want to end my review by talking about the music. Persona 5 already had an insanely beautiful soundtrack, potentially the best of 2017, had Nier;Automata not also come out that same year. Somehow, they made that soundtrack even better with absolute bangers like "I Believe" in combination with the more emotional "僕らの光." I don't think that this game is for everyone, but I Believe the level of care and quality present in this game is so rare and worth paying attention to that it should shine as the Pinnacle of both modern JRPG gameplay and storytelling.     As someone who's already a huge Persona fan and played the original Persona 5, the Royal is a great update on the original's gameplay. Whether you're just getting into Persona 5 or want to experience it all over again, I highly recommend picking up The Royal.

    Everything added in this game was amazing. Negitive reviews are people who haven't played the game fully and people who thought royal was a new game. It's not! Its persona 5 but defined with new content and changes that keep the game fresh and improve it. It's not only the best jrpg of all time it's now one of the best games ever made

    I Recommend EVERYONE to play this game it is a masterpiece. The music is amazing, the characters are amazing and the story and game play is amazing every thing is perfect. The third semester is amazing.

The soundtrack is the best ever in a game, the story is amazing and so is the gameplay it is very quick for a turn based combat game which lots of people will probably like. TO get to the 3rd semester and you've already played persona 5 you'd have to replay alot of stuff butPersona 5 was already the best JRPG of all time but in persona 5 royal they improved the little flaws the game had.     Esse jogo é lindo !, A trilha sonora é incrível como sempre assim como as novas adições só complementam oque já era perfeito, novas adições aos palácios, desafios na Velvet Room, o jogo está lindo e merece ser game do ano, espero que a atlus lance para o resto do mundo o persona 5 scramble , gostaria muito de jogar , enfim nota 10000, amo persona !

After playing for 200 hours I can safely say that Rarely have I seen a game so packed with content, There always something to do, either on the metaverse or the real world. But because of how smooth this two worlds interwine is a key aspect of what makes this game a masterpiece.     It really just takes Persona 5 and adds upon/improves a lot of aspects, there are some things that are exactly the same as the original. But seeing how it was already was a very good game and that there are enough improvements that you never go to long without noticing them, makes it a perfect score for me.

    Quite literally the best game of all time, crafted with expertise precision from its vanilla predecessor. The quality of life changes made to this game enhance its formula in every way shape and form. There is no better JRPG than the 5th entry of Persona, and Royal cements its legacy in a defining take on what it means to be a Japanese role playing title.

The only downsides I can think of are the length of the game (for many, that’s a problem), the graphics in palaces or mementos (they‘re not up to date) and character movement animation.     I definitely recommend P5R to anyone and everyone reading this review. I honestly think it's one of the best games ever made, not even just in the JRPG category. Coming from someone who's only turn-based experience before base Persona 5 was Pokemon, I wasn't sure how I'd like it. After seeing how incredible this game was, it definitely became my favorite game of all time. And Royal onlyI definitely recommend P5R to anyone and everyone reading this review. I honestly think it's one of the best games ever made, not even just in the JRPG category.     I can't believe it, but they made it. They made Persona 5 even better in every aspect of the game. The soundracks added are amazing. Complete JRPG game I would recommend even for the people that despise the genre, and I'm sure they'd enjoy it as much as I did. Worth it.

    Persona 5 2016 is masterpiece by default. Royal sets the bar over the base game to the ultimate JRPG of all time even higher. A staggering experience with so many good things about it, that you only got to fall for it. every little thing the base game could have done better, is put to perfection. Persona 5 Royal is, for me, the game of the generation, Is on my personal top 5 of my life andPersona 5 2016 is masterpiece by default. Royal sets the bar over the base game to the ultimate JRPG of all time even higher.     Escribo sobretodo para expresar mi más sentida vergüenza por todos los usuarios que ponen “0” o puntuación similar para bajar la media de la nota de usuario dando razones ridículas y falsas, como que simplemente es el P5 original con unos pocos DLC’s, cosa que es una completa mentira. Un juego que para mí no es perfecto, que podrían mejorarse ciertas cosillas como por ejemplo másEscribo sobretodo para expresar mi más sentida vergüenza por todos los usuarios que ponen “0” o puntuación similar para bajar la media de la nota de usuario dando razones ridículas y falsas, como que simplemente es el P5 original con unos pocos DLC’s, cosa que es una completa mentira. Un juego que para mí no es perfecto, que podrían mejorarse ciertas cosillas como por ejemplo más interacción en algunos eventos, “social links” que fueran un poco más allá, un “true ending” algo más emotivo, un ligero aumento de la dificultad ya que en esta versión con tantos cambios en el sistema de batalla se torna algo más fácil (subsanable aumentando la dificultad). Son cosas aquí y allá de la que no se libra ningún juego pero que por pedir que no quede. Pero luego ves esa historia y el mensaje que ofrece, su magnífica expansión al final, el elenco de personajes a los que se suman dos grandes incorporaciones y su profundidad narrativa, la inmersión en su mundo, un sistema de combate pulido hasta lo enfermizo, la colosal banda sonora, todas las mejoras y añadidos en TODO (no son precisamente pocos los retoques y ajustes de la versión Royal). Ves todo ese mimo y esa cantidad ingente de mejoras respecto al Persona 5 original que aunque no sea perfecto (repito que para mí no lo es, ningún juego me lo parece) se me caería la cara de vergüenza ponerle un suspenso a un juego que podría perfectamente luchar no por uno de los mejores JRPG de la historia, sino de los videojuegos en general. Seguid bajando la media si queréis pero no vais a cambiar lo que es Persona 5 Royal, una obra maestra incontestable y atemporal que ya sólo por lo que ofrece a la industria del videojuego se merece el 10 sobradamente. A falta de ver el resto de promesas de este año y aún siendo una reedición, podría ser el GOTY de 2020 y no pasaría absolutamente nada. Un juego que ciertamente no es apto para todos los gustos y en el que hay que leer como nunca lo hayas hecho, pero si consigues pasar esa barrera te robará el corazón. Un referente en su género y encima ahora en perfecto castellano. 10/10… Expand

    اللعبة فعلًا رائعة وفيها اختلافات كثيرة ، قبل ان ابدأ اللعبة توقعت اني سأتجاوز جميع المقاطع القديمة الا انني عندما بدأتها انصدمت من مستواها الرائع والتعديل الجميل على الحوارات وجعلها أمتع بكثير والألحان الرائعة اضافت جانب آخراللعبة فعلًا رائعة وفيها اختلافات كثيرة ، قبل ان ابدأ اللعبة توقعت اني سأتجاوز جميع المقاطع القديمة الا انني عندما بدأتها انصدمت من مستواها الرائع والتعديل الجميل على الحوارات وجعلها أمتع بكثير والألحان الرائعة اضافت جانب آخر

    This is definetely the best game I have ever played. A significant improvement from persona 5, I have spent 150+ hours and still want to play way more.
    The last arc of the story was the best one, somehow beating the last persona 5 arc. It was extremely good storywise, and very emotional.
    It's the best JRPG out there without a doubt, and a must play.

    I have played Persona 5 which I very much enjoyed so I was excited to pick this up. There’s tons of new features and even the story and dungeons have many new additions to the point that it feels like playing a new but familiar game. One of the best JRPGs and RPGs of the decade!

They managed to weave enough new and good content between the old game for it to feel fun. The battle system is fresh and fun. On many occasions, I have had to do battle after battle in a single PalaceNot only is it the best Persona game yet, it is also the best Persona re-release. As someone who only got to watch game play of the original Persona 5, Royal didn't feel repetitive at all. They managed to weave enough new and good content between the old game for it to feel fun. It talks about real world issues and gives quite the topics for conversation.     P5R is the best JRPG on PS4. P5 was great, but P5R is even better. They improved certain parts of the gameplay, they expanded the original story and they added a lot of interesting things. The graphic, music and sound are great. Overall, the game is awesome.

    The best game of my life! What a great experience. Characters, animation, music, gameplay, scenario, replay values.. everything is just beautifully woven together. Very thought provoking towards the end.

    Now the things to warn you about, if you don't like ALOT of cutscenes/text based stuff then its not for you. This game plays out day by day and you interact with different people/things each day. Inbetween palaces you could be doing this for a couple hours. Though there is a dungeon you can do between palaces if you wan't a break from all the talking and just want to get into RPG stuff. This is also a Turn based RPG 100%, there is no real time combat at all. This game is done really well and from a previous persona player i'm stoked they changed it this much but kept the elements of the game and improved it by loads. The old dungeons used to be corridors and boxed rooms. Now its full on creative places that you can explore where each room is different from the last and actually looks like the palace its based on.    … Expand

This game is so addicting and I sat through an entire week playing and used a week of vacation because it means that much to me! Should be game of the year but it depends on if it qualifies!     Quite literally one of the best PS4 exclusives made has become even better with this new edition.

    Everything from the story-telling, role-playing mechanics, and main gameplay is incredibly enjoyable and well thought out. I truly recommend this game to Japanese pop-culture and game fans who have a PS4!

    I’ve been a fan of the persona series since Persona 3, and I must say, Persona 5 Royal is a ground breaking title I finished the game around 2 days ago and I’m already replaying it, I had 600 hours in the original alone, although I must say the trophies were a tad too easy. In the first game you felt rewarded after getting the Platinum, but in Royal you basically get the platinum if you’reI’ve been a fan of the persona series since Persona 3, and I must say, Persona 5 Royal is a ground breaking title I finished the game around 2 days ago and I’m already replaying it, I had 600 hours in the original alone, although I must say the trophies were a tad too easy.     Absolutely wonderful game. About 120 hours to complete more or less for the true ending. The immersion of the game makes you feel like you are actually part of the Phantom Thieves. There were some great improvements since last game as well as extra content and a different ending, if you unlock the new semester that is. With the new release, I was mildly sceptical about the idea of adding in new characters to a preexisting narrative without it feeing awkward and forced.     Wow this game surpassed my expectations, I was pretty nervous for Royal although FES and Golden where an improvement over the original this is easily in my opinion the best re-release ATLUS has produced.

    This game is selling for full price and I can totally see why, this game adds another 25 hours of content which is easily more hours then a new game which is releasing, but they have also improved on the original games content.

    Changing bosses to have new and unique phases although not all have changed, I believe around 8 of the 10 bosses have had some change, 7 for better and 1 for worst. Will seeds are great as they reward exploration with three hidden around the map although they can easily be found (only had trouble finding one). The grapple hook is also a nice addition although you won't be using it to traverse the map as much as I thought, but it will be used for something else a lot which was appreciated.

    Two new confidants and one reworked have been added to the game. Kasumi and Dr. Maruki are great additions to the game having something to do with the bigger picture which I loved and the abilities they give to the protagonist are great which added a new layer to an already complex yet simple game. Akechi's reworked confidant is one of my favorites of the game and will happily do his each time I play.

    The new mechanics which are added during battles do make the game easier in certain ways but also make the battle system much more interesting and strategic, for example the purple glowing shadows which explode after attacking them, you have to decide whether or not you want to unleash a ton of damage on them and possibly not get the persona which you want because the purple shadow damages the enemies around it, I loved that and hope this will continue to be expanded in future persona games.

    Mementos is now actually fun to grind now because of another new character named Jose. Give him stamps have the choice to increase XP, money or items earned. Obviously the XP is the best choice and I found myself leveling up every few minutes instead of every 10+ minutes. Flowers could also be traded in for items which many of these items are useful.

    The new big selling point though was the mysterious third semester which had a whole new palace, boss and many hours of new content. I must say this may be my favorite of what ATLUS has created in the persona series. The villain is great, you definitely will be sympathetic towards that person, probably my favorite villain in the game. There is a lot of twists as well in the semester and I was amazed and open mouthed at a lot of them, it definitely left me thinking and wanting to continue playing the game, I struggled to put down the controller during these moments. The palace as well is great, definitely top 3 of the game in my opinion and the palace theme is great. The puzzles are simple until you get to the last one which definitely will be compared to a certain other in the game, but I liked this one a lot more and felt extremely satisfied when I figured it out.

    Overall this is the best game since the Witcher 3 or Bloodborne in my opinion, it improves on everything ATLUS created in the original version and expands on the games battle system and story. This was worth the money I spent without a doubt and cannot wait to replay the game. For all Persona fans this is a must play before Scramble comes out.    … Expand

This revolutionary RPG is not only amazing in it's own right but releases at the perfect time. This game is perfect to play in quarantine and gives you a good social and combat mix in one glorious package.     Even though it is only an enhanced version for the vanilla version. I still have a wonderful experience after playing this game. Personally, the additional confidants, stories, and features completes the original game, and it gives me more satisfying feeling than the original one. For me, this is the one of the best games I have ever played.

    Honestly, this game deserves game of the year.
    You take an incredible game (Persona 5) and essentially turn it into a director's cut with a lot of new content and changes that make the game overall more enjoyable. If you had any issues with vanilla Persona 5, they are most likely resolved in Royal.
    Overall, fantastic game, deserves all the praise it is getting.

    Amazing game with incredibly likable characters, great soundtrack, awesome style and beautiful, thought-provoking storyline that will most likely move you to tears when you reach the endgame. A truly unique experience, if you by chance haven't played Persona 5 then I can not stress enough how much I recommend this game.

    I was lucky enough to get this a week early and I’m already about 80 hours into it, and it’s absolutely amazing, and that the original which should’ve easily been GOTY, could be improved on, it’s been improved to be one off the all time great games. A true 10/10.

    Persona 5 Royal allows players to experience the story they already love in a new way without losing any of the beauty from the original game. New and old characters get their chance to shine through and steal your heart, even the ones you never expected to. You’ll laugh, you’ll cry, and maybe you’ll even feel a sense of justice for the infamous Phantom Thieves in the end. But one thing you won’t feel is regret in picking up Persona 5 Royal, as it’s truly the best Persona title, if not one of the best video games, I’ve ever experienced to date.

    All of the new additions and content mean that Persona 5 Royal is a clear upgrade to the original. New players should seek this version without hesitation, although vets may find starting the game over from scratch to be too big an ask. Either way, there’s no doubt that Persona 5 Royal sits proudly on the throne of Peak Persona… or at least it will until Atlus decides they can do even more with it.
