Be prepared for some trial and error in some of the game's sections. You'll die a few times trying to find the exit while attempting to escape sudden death.

This trial and error aspect of the game won't really affect you if you were a fan of the original Outlast and its DLC, as you would be familiar with this IP's level design. For players new to the franchise, it would be recommended to use a guide of sorts if you found yourself stuck in a specific section.

Outlast 2 is also a game with a fair amount of scares and a creepy atmosphere that also raises the bar on gore and violence from the first game. The gameplay is now evolved from the original; now you must check your shirtpockets (an in-game inventory of sorts) to keep track of your battery and bandage count, and there is running stamina. Bandages are a new feature that removes the health regeneration from the first game and replaces it with a limited healing system. At first, it may seem that these three new additions to the game could be an inconvenience, but turn out to actually add to the game's tension.

In summary, Outlast 2 is a highly polished game with nicely evolved gameplay, but includes level design that relies on trial and error to overcome. This game is definitely a worthy purchase to fans of the original Outlast, but a cautious purchase to newcomers of the franchise.

    No. The answer is no.

    1. Gameplay
It sucks. It's soooooo bad oh my god. You spend most of the game running away from enemies that just magically appear out of thin air if you get spotted. Stealth doesn't even work in this game, because every enemy somehow knows where you are, every time. Don't even bother playing the game on the hardest difficulty either, as it is EXTREMELY Unfair, and even then, you wouldn't even have enough reason to play it on the hardest difficulty because it literally gives you NOTHING. A lot of the game is spent reading these long notes that are boring and make you want to kill yourself. The survival mechanics are pretty garbage too. Bandages are EVERYWHERE, ruining the point of trying to be careful, while to heal you have to STAND STILL, which is the dumbest thing I have ever seen in a video game. You're definitely going to be playing through one of the most broken games that tries all this new stuff, but it doesn't work.

    2. STORY
Characters are forgettable. You don't have any real motivation to play as Blake, or to even get your poorly lip syncing wife. It's a whole confusing plot involving biblical nonsense that if you never read the bible, you'd never understand. The ending is also complete garbage, and leaves you off on what is now officially the WORST ENDING OF 2017. Not to mention the whole fact this doesn't even continue from what the first story did. There's no Walrider, nothing about the insane asylum, or even Waylon Park for god's sake. You can't just leave us hanging on what happens to Waylon!

    3. ???
This category basically just points out all the dumb stuff that the developers forgot to fix. First of all, if I supposedly can't defend myself, WHY ARE THERE WEAPONS EVERYWHERE? Is blake a cripple that can't pick up anything? Why are there like four plots going on at once, why should I care about this? Why anything?!

Outlast 2 is a gigantic **** of a game. It essentially just shoves a bunch of gameplay mechanics, and a half assed mediocre story into it. There's nothing special about this game, and there certainly isn't anything memorable about it. You'd be better off playing Resident Evil 7, the original outlast, or some other horror game from previous years, hell just play SOMETHING that isn't this game.

Unfortuently this really made the game frustrating when you get to the middle section of the game which takes place in the forest and there is little to no clear direction a lot of the time with an enemy that can attack you from a ranged distance. there were parts in this section of the game that were so frustrating that I wanted to quit the game entirely and the worst part was that this section of the game I didn't find scary at all and it took me about 2 hours or so until this part was over with. on a positive note, I loved how the game implemented some psychological horror into the game, and created some of the games best moments. when the game was scary, it was really scary. I didn't find the characters as memorable as the first game unfortuently and that was kind of a bummer but I still felt atleast two of the main bad guys for lack of a better term were pretty intimidating, with one of them being very forgettable to me, but I appreciate that they tried something different with this character. the story was kindof a mess, because unless your reading the files and notes you pick up, your gonna be left very confused by the end, and even if you do understand whats going on, I felt that the story was underwhelming in the same way a story about how in the end it was all just a dream is underwhelming, it has a similar thing going on. over all I was kind of disspaointed in the game as a whole, but the game was really scary most of the time and I really appreciate the developers for taking risks even though they didn't all pay off, and I think it is a game worth playing if you were a fan of the first game, but maybe wait for a discounted price. It falls away with the constant running from enemies, the constant dying because the game is pure trial and error. No idea where you are going until you've died 3 or 4 times. Once you've died a couple of times then the scare factor is gone. It is just frustrating. The cam-corder simply doesn't work in this environment either, unlike the winding narrow corridors of the first game this is quite an open game with open spaces and the night-vision is useless.
Overall a bit of a let down - especially with the overly complex story and confusing ending.
PS - I still sh*t my pants quite a few times playing it though!

Until the last minute of the game, I didn't have a clue of what was going on. I was just receiving a bunch of disconnected information along with pretty cool graphics, and that kinda made me bored. So many trips to your dreams in the middle of the story in Temple's Gate, dreams that you don't know why you are seeing. That made me frustrated.

The game is a well-made horror and might entertain you if you want to get scared for a while, but it doesn't really honor its name and won't be an enjoyable experience for the true fans of the saga.

This is by far one of the most frustrating games I've played in quite some time. The constant one-hit kills (even on normal difficulty) had me rolling my eyes, less than an hour into the game. My entire experience was nothing but inching forward little by little in hopes to eventually find the path that the developers intended you to run towards, yet give you little to no visible clues as to where that really is. You will spend over 6 hours in this miserable title, just running a muck and exhausting every option until you eventually figure out that there is a small hole in a fence that you need to run through in less than a few seconds. Open environments like this, do not work for this type of gameplay. You need to have some type of clue where you're going, but instead of giving you clues-- they decide to just kill you the very moment you turn left instead of right.

Dying over and over again is just one of the many issues with this title. Let's talk about some new gameplay features. You now have the ability to bandage your wounds. This is quite amusing as you cannot bandage yourself unless you come to a complete stop for several seconds. Also, since most enemies tend to just kill you in one hit-- I ask you this...what is the point? Even more hilarious; every time you die, you receive full battery for your camera and it instantly restores your health. Almost as if you were rewarded for dying? Very odd design choice. They also added another feature to the camera that allows you to hear better and from what direction. This would have been a nice addition as it does help you figure out what direction you should avoid; however, the terrible stealth mechanics completely negate any effort the developers placed on their excellent sound design.

Enemies seem to always find you; even if you're laying down in the cornfields, shrub or grass. It doesn't really seem to matter. In 90% of the chase sequences, it's better to just run around until something catches your eye that you didn't notice on your last dozen times playing the same sequence. One particular enemy that annoyed me, is actually the first enemy you encounter! You can't hide from her at all-- if she sees you and you didn't turn around upon her immediate appearance-- your dead. After several run-ins with her, I just let her kill me the moment she spot me. You can duck and weave all you want, she will find or catch up to you, I lost track of how many times I saw her pickax impale me from behind. The only way I know to avoid her is to trip her up on some environmental objects, since the artificial intelligence seems to ignorant to avoid consistently. One particular scenario the developers ask you to push a cart up to a large door to hop over into the next area. But this is easier said than done (much like everything in the game), because she will ambush you two (sometimes 3) times for every couple feet you move the cart. Depending on how close she gets to you when she appears, you may already be dead before you noticed the sound-queue that she has made her appearance. You'll run round and round and eventually she'll get tripped up on environmental objects that give you a small chance to finally outrun her (something you normally can't do) to evade for a bit. This whole segment is nothing but frustration and I'm loving the reactions from people on YouTube from this part. Yes; this game upset me so much to the point where I actually enjoy seeing others be tortured by it as well-- I'm not alone in this.

I wanted to save my last paragraph for the story but I honestly couldn't tell you what in the world is happening. Outlast 2 makes further use of collectible items to tell a good portion of its story. The biggest issue here, is that a lot of it is just nonsensical bible passages that take far too long to decipher for me to care. Not to mention, I don't feel the need to stop and read one of these every few minutes while one-hit-kill-lady is screaming from behind me. Outlast 2 may potentially have a good story to tell, but I would be willing to put money on how many people would actually care to finish it themselves before simply viewing the confusing ending on the internet.

Outlast 2 may look and sound impressive...but it ends there. Red Barrel completely missed what made the first two entries to the series so amazing. I never struggled like this in the others, I always had some sort of clue on where I was going and why, but this entry is designed in the complete opposite manner. I would really like to see the developers thought-process during the games creation because I just can't fathom why they made the choices that were made. Graphics and gore do not make a good game and all this studio needs to do in order to see that, is take a few steps back and really examine their previous efforts.

And then your helicopter crashes, you can’t find your wife, and you spend the rest of the game trying to find her…
Outlast 2 is more open feeling than the claustrophobic original…
While at the same time much more linear feeling
But I found it to be a lot more stressful…
Instead of 4 hours, Outlast 2 clocks in at a little less than 7…
Which felt to be a bit of a mistake...
It feels like it drags on forever, mostly thanks to the games awful pacing…
This is still la survival horror game, collect batteries for your camera, use that camera to record things and as a light source, collect bandages to heal yourself when you’re hurt and get through everything the game throws at you..
Hide under beds, and in barrels and lockers...
But the game is missing those tense moments the original had…
I feel outlast 2 throws way too many enemies at your way too often…
This is where the pacing issue comes in...
You never have down time, you never have time to soak in the environment and let it creep you out… because beyond the first chapter the game is throwing multiple enemies for you to deal with around every corner... and it isn’t tense or scary, it’s annoying...
Getting through sections of the game is frustrating...
You never feel like stealth is a real option...
It never really feels like it works…
Enemey detection is way too sensitive and I felt like they always knew where I was
and I felt like I had to trigger enemies, make them chase me, and run around the map to get past sections…
And some points in the game you’re forced to deal with situations like this
and it just never stops, making the game feel like a chore, especially in the final few chapters..
The game is gorgeous though, and creepy
it’s full of jump scares and surprises, especially with the random transitions between your location in this religious cult and a catholic school…
    The game never becomes predictable.
And is definitely worth seeing through to the end,
I don’t want to set any expectations, but I’ll just say it’s better than the original outlasts ending.
Outlast 2 has a lot going for it, as does the series in general...
I just wish it stuck to the one enemy at a time formula the original had... it made moments tense...
instead of throwing multiple enemies at you that you cant deal with and never letting you breathe…
Again, I was more annoyed by outlast 2 than I was scared by it…
The Demo was a more enjoyable experience for me than the actual game

Im giving this a 10 on here as an attempt to counteract the quite frankly **** retarded people that rated this anything below a seven. You people need to stop revowing games because you are trash.

The sequel to the wildly popular Outlast and you can see they were given a lot bigger budget here. I really liked the first one and the second one I think is even better. Scarier and an interesting story which unfortunately will continue in the DLC.

Outlast 2 is almost perfect survival-horror game even better the first game. And what we have now? A lot of locations, nextgen graphics and really cool story about husband, which just want to save his wife and get out of that **** I'm tired to write that review. Just go to steam, ps store or another store, buy Outlast 2 and play in that game all night...

Expand

I had heard this game is absolutely unfair in its difficulty, but I found that evasion wasn't the problem. The real challenge in Outlast 2 is finding out where the hell to go. The real challenge in Outlast 2 is finding out where the hell to go. There are some tight areas, fortunately, where progression is pretty clear, but there are many open spaces where I found myself circling the perimeter or zig-zagging the area looking for the next place I was supposed to go. Sometimes the game loads you in facing the wrong direction. At a key moment towards the end, I was loaded in facing my pursuers who killed me immediately. The game then respawned me in the right direction.

Unlike the first Outlast, I never found Outlast 2 to be that scary. It had some pretty messed up aspects, but its attempts to disturb mostly felt forced. Things are unrelentingly f'ed up so early on that each new addition to the f'ed up department feels like a desperate attempt to one-up itself. Also, if you're ever pursued, reaching a checkpoint immediately makes the enemies forget you're there and practically disappear (unless it's a scripted conflict). Also, the consequence of dying is fairly light. You don't lose any progress and you're completely healed (your camera's batteries may also be replenished, but I don't remember this for sure).

I liked the atmosphere and look. It kind of reminded me of RE4 and RE7 with a few of the more hellish set pieces of Bloodborne. I think it would've benefited from some form of self-defense - especially considering the sheer amount of enemies there are (especially in comparison to the first game). That doesn't necessarily mean you should be able to kill your enemies, but it would be nice to at least incapacitate them briefly to get out of the stickier situations so that you can get a lay of the land to find your next destination.

As far as the story goes, it was easier to piece together than the first game, but leaves a lot more questions asked than answered. The notes may explain everything, but their presentation is kind of cumbersome, so I rarely read them.

The game looks fantastic, and the sound design is just as good, but it's significantly worse than the first game. Generic story and location, annoying dream sequences, and it was just boring most of the time. There were some fun chases and moments in general, but it was still a disappointment.

Game is simply not scary at all, which is like the main criteria for a horror game, one would think. It has little to no atmosphere, cheap jumpscares that aren't scary because you expect them in like 80 % of the cases and it's way too easy. One of the worst games I've played.

    Flaws -

    1. The path you're supposed to take can be confusing at times.
    2. It's occasionally too hard and you'll die repeatedly which kills the tension.
    3. The story is laid out in the paper you find. The only hope of understanding what happens is to read as much as you can.
    4. The game is too dark (literally). You have to rely on night vision pretty much entirely which is a shame because the levels look fantastic. This is why the sections set in the school look so much better... you can actually see stuff.

    Pros +

    1. The story can be confusing but if you read enough and combine that with your own ideas it makes for a pretty chilling tale.
    2. It looks amazing.
    3. There's a lack of worthwhile survival horror games so despite its flaws it's welcome.
    4. There is a lot of tension and it can be terrifying at times.

Overall, if you're a fan of the first outlast and resident evil 7 you'll probably enjoy it. I'd recommend playing it on normal to limit frustration and if you get stuck consult a guide. It doesn't quite live up to expectations but I really enjoyed it.

    - Silly story ( its all about crazy rednecks that follow some slob into some alternative christian religion that revolves around killing offspring? ).
    - Good length, not too long and cumbersome but also offers a variety of different level design.
    CONS:
    - Trial and error gets repetitive and annoying.
    - Sometimes the NPC's are approachable, other times they instantly cut you without notice (inconsistent).
    - Sometimes you're thrusted in a situation where you have absolutely no time to react, thus resulting in a frustrating death.
    - Even on normal, it only takes between 1-3 hits to die. You cannot heal in a chase, so therefore if you get hit you have to escape to heal.
    - In some chases my character got caught on a tree branch or couldn't jump over a small object (even though the game requires you to climb up big walls). That was frustrating.
    - The ending wasn't very fufilling for me.

Overall, it reminded me a lot of RE7 and the Evil Within. Although there is no way to defend yourself physically (only hiding/running), this game had an amazingly creepy atmosphere that any horror fan could appreciate. It's all trial and error which is kind of an old school throwback, but I thoroughly enjoyed it and couldn't put it down until I beat it. Luckily, if you have a PS4 it is free this month on PSN (which is where I got it). Sometimes frustrating, but ultimately a good game that deserves your playthrough.

Some reviewers say that you need to learnt correct routes to pass some levels but I don't think it's a drawback. There are were about 2 or 3 levels where I was killed for several times before passed them. I don't think it's very annoying.

Also the story is quite good. It's not so good as for first part but that part with fake pregnancy it's awesome.

The game for me has some great moments, for me the best moments where the school scenes, it adds a realistic element to the game which I really liked, I wanted more of that and less of the cultist in the middle of nowhere with a confusing story unless you look for notes. The visuals are amazing for a 2017 game, I love the look and atmosphere of this game as well, my heart was racing at times and this is what really is the saving point of the game for me because then this leads into the many negatives of the game.

The game is unoriginal in the villain category Marta is practically Chris walker, Loutermilch is practically Walrider etc. this was super disappointing in my opinion which leads to another problem. How the big villains die, they are insulting, I found myself getting frustrated at times at how stupid some of the deaths are. The main villain Sullivan is one of the worst villains I have ever seen, he is in the game for a whole of 5 minutes, sure you could read notes about him but not everyone wants to, his motives and explanations should be explained throughout and his presence can be spread out and more intimidating this would of made him so much better. I hated the ending as well, as first it was the most confusing and insulting ending I have ever experienced, you have to find a note to explain the protagonists actions but then it still feels lazy. Also the linear path can be annoying especially when running through a cornfield. The difficulty spikes are at times annoying but I enjoyed them personally. If you fix the ending I would of given this one or two points more.

This may not be the great sequel to the masterpiece Outlast we wanted but it is still a solid sequel with weird and horrifying sequences which can make you disturbed which really made me excited especially the school sequences, but with the horrible ending and lazy bosses it does bog down what could of been a great game instead of solid game.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. My thoughts on Outlast 2: (Spoilers Ahead)

    - They for some reason thought it was a good idea to go with the predictable, eyeroll worthy "twist" of your childhood friend being (y'know) by a catholic priest that was obvious less than a third of a way through the game

    - Most of the encounters are chases, which to me are the least scary parts of horror games, all you have to do is run in a line until you reach the destination. if you're fast enough, the enemy will never even catch up to you

    - The villains are all awful. One of them is basically Ferra/Torr from Mortal Kombat X but with a bow and arrow, 2 of them are catholic priests that really enjoy doing (y'know) to underage girls, and you never even truly "encounter" them, and another one is a heretic transgender...man? I don't know if they transitioned to male or female, to be honest.

    - One thing I can say nice about the game is that much like the first game, it's gorgeous and has phenomenal graphics. I think it even improves on the first game in this way, and in a few others which I will get to in a minute. But everything just looks so gorgeous in this game, the lighting is awesome, the reflections in the water are great, the night vision looks even better than in the first game. Overall, a very good-looking game.

    - There's a new mechanic called the "Slide", where you'll run and build up your momentum, and depending on your platform, you'll either hold CTRL, Circle, or B to then slide across the floor. There's also an achievement for this later in the game where you slide down a corridor filled with blood, and I thought that was pretty cool.

    - You can also crawl now, and not just crouch like in the first game, which I think is a nice touch. Something odd about crawling, though, is that at times, it felt almost faster than crouching. I don't know if this is true, but I just thought I'd point that out.

    - There's a new mechanic called the "Microphone" which allows you to hear the enemies around you. seems like a cool concept, but every time I play it I keep forgetting it even exists, because it's really not as useful as it sounds. especially when like I said before, most enemy encounters are chases.

    - The main villain appears in two scenes in the whole game. That's it, just two scenes. "Well," you may be thinking to yourself. "What if those two scenes helped establish him as a great villain and as a real threat?" But no, these scenes don't use his short time in the game sparingly. He interrogates someone in a church near the 25% mark of the game and then kills two people, and in the second one, at the END of the game, he commits suicide.

    - The plot of the entire game is hidden in a note offshore that you have to be TRYING to find, and the note basically tells you that these radio towers nearby are making the people in Temple Gate (the place you're at) hallucinate things...like the Anti-Christ coming. The entire plot of the game, by the way, was that these schizophrenic Christians believe that the Anti-Christ is coming.
So basically, the plot of the game can be summed up with three words: "It's a hallucination."

Overall, a bad game that I wouldn't recommend trying for yourself unless it's on sale.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Okay, let me get this straight. As an extreme lover of Outlast, this game offends me on a whole other level. And I really mean it. This game messes up a lot of core aspects of Outlast. Now, enough of me **** let me get into the review. First, I'm gonna list some good things about the game.
    1. The graphics are absolutely amazing, and definitely a one-up from the first game.
    2. The sound design is incredible, and can really make you feel like you're really in Temple Gate.
    3. The character design is amazing, especially Nick and Laird (even though they look ridiculous).

Alright, now I'm gonna cross into the bad **** about this game.
    1. The school sections. I CANNOT believe that people love these sections the most. People are praising these sections when really, they're just an excuse to make the game longer and seem edgier, especially the ending. All you do in the school sections are run for what seems like hours while you wait for a random door to open or a passageway to run from Captain Tickles (Father Loutermilch). Maybe if we went to this section a few times and learned something new each time, then I wouldn't complain, but you end up here every 20 minutes.
    2. A speaking protagonist. Now, I think that the person who voiced Blake really tried their best, and it definitely paid off. But it isn't the actual voice acting that's bad, it's the fact that Blake speaks. In the original Outlast (including Whistleblower), your character never spoke except for when he was in pain. This was changed in Outlast 2 for no **** reason at all. We've gathered absolutely no information from Blake being able to speak. We've only gathered that he loves his wife, he regrets a part of his childhood, and "oh **** son of a **** oh ****."
    3. Because it's scary. Now, I'm gonna take something from Purposeless Rabbitholes and complain about a certain element that carries throughout this game. A bunch of useless **** happens throughout the ENTIRE **** game. "Why does Blake lose his glasses a bunch?" Because it's scary. "Why did that guy walk into the lake?" Because it's scary. "Why is it raining blood?" Because it's scary. Do you see a pattern? Most things happen in this game BECAUSE IT'S SCARY!
    4. The level design. The level design in this game is **** atrocious. This is one of the main reasons I hate the school sections. It even happens when you're OUT of school! Most of the times I died in this game was because I didn't step in the exact angle the developers wanted me to run in. The main trick that the devs used in this game is by tricking the player into believing that this is open space when it's really just corridors in disguise.
    5. The lack of character development. This part really makes me mad because we know jack-**** about anybody in this God-forsaken game. Nothing about Jessica, nothing about Lynn, nothing about Val, nothing about Marta, DEFINITELY nothing about Papa Knoth who's supposed to be the main bad guy. DEFINITELY nothing about Nick and Laird who we spend the most time with.
    6. That **** note next to that **** lake. I absolutely HATE that **** note. The developers give absolutely nothing about the bright lights except for a **** note on the **** end of the shore of a lake that's hidden in a **** sleeping bag. And even when you find the note, it still gives you absolutely nothing except for "towers rebooting, Jenny Rowling, owls having sex, blah blah blah." And guess who's running the towers, Murkoff. That is literally the ONLY story connection in the ENTIRE GAME that connects it to Outlast. WHAT?! REALLY?! WHY?! Why would they even think of this? Not only that, but the ENTIRE TEAM thought "yep, that seems okay."
    7. The **** ending. THAT ENDING IS THE WORST **** EXCUSE FOR A ****IGN ENDING I'VE EVER SEEN IN MY ENTIRE **** LIFE! HOW DID THEY EVEN THINK OF THIS? Yeah, it'll be a great **** idea to have the ending to this six-hour long waste of time to be a **** factory explosion that precedes a **** PRAYER! A **** PRAYER! I SPENT SIX HOURS OF MY LIFE TO HAVE THE ENDING BE A **** PRAYER! That's it, I'm done. I'm not playing this **** game ever again. WORST ENDING OF 2017!

No causa mucho miedo sinceramente.

One of the best horror games. Outlast 2 has a cursed story . This game is good anyway.

One of the biggest disappointments of this console generation. The story is almost non-existent and still poorly told. All the horror elements come down to darkness and gore. There is no psychological horror. So the game can't really frigthen the player once you understand how stupid the AI is. All the trial and error passages get frustrating really fast. The game looks GREAT and is VERY Creepy but the story is very confusing and you will need to either read ALL the documents in the game to understand it or watch a YouTube video to understand it. When you finish this game you will say to yourself WHAT THE HELL JUST HAPPENED!? I honestly do not know if I enjoyed playing this game or not.

I would pretty much consider this a masterpiece. First of all, let me say that to be honest, I'm a bit of an old fogey. Well, I'm only 30, but in the video game world I'm very behind the times. When I first started this game, I was absolutely astonished by the graphics, and did not stop being amazed until the game was over. It's hard for me to say how this compares to other AAA titlesI would pretty much consider this a masterpiece. First of all, let me say that to be honest, I'm a bit of an old fogey. Well, I'm only 30, but in the video game world I'm very behind the times. When I first started this game, I was absolutely astonished by the graphics, and did not stop being amazed until the game was over. It's hard for me to say how this compares to other AAA titles because I don't play that many of them, but it's obviously cutting edge, and packed to the brim with spooky ambience and environment detail.

I should also mention that I played this game on the easiest difficulty possible ("story mode") and that was certainly difficult enough. The game is scary enough that it really doesn't need stealth mechanics. Obviously it's nice to have for the die-hards, but if you're more interested in going along for a ride than banging your head against the wall because you're spotted hiding in a barrel, just do yourself a favor and pick easy mode.

Anyway, the game is kind of a lot to handle. It's really **** scary. Mainly a sort of "cursed appalacian villiage" vibe but that barely does it justice, because every scene is so detailed and has a different atmosphere. There are zombie types, cultists, demons, tentacles, and good old' pedo priests.

A lot of the details kind of went beyond me, such as the pieces of paper you pick up (I stopped reading them at a certain point). The plotline gradually comes together, but it's all pretty symbolic, and it's not like there's a case-closed good-guys-walk-away kind of ending.

I definitely had to play this game in installments. Especially when starting out, I was only playing lke 15 min at a time because I didn't really understand the on-wheels nature of the game and I was too busy being petrified. The on-wheels nature is fantastic, by the way. There are a couple parts that I did find really difficult, specifically Vas' Rebirth when you're in the submerged cave took me like 30 min to complete even with reading the strategy, but for the most part you can kinda just follow the queues and the whole thing is linear.

Eventually I sort of found my groove in the game and could plow through some more at a time, but the no-combat nature of the game makes every monster automatically horrifying because you cannot "beat" them, you just have to sneak or run.

I will also commend the devs for not relying too heavily on jump scares- if it did, I probably wouldn't have finished it. The spooky atmosphere here is so detailed that more subtle feelings are invoked. Hiding in the pew listening to the crooked priest, crawling under the bathroom stalls to escape the monster, falling down a cave elevator as it collapes, and then ending with a beautifully colored landscape and choral music - this game has really beautiful art, and I hope it won some kind of award.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I played the first Outlast and its DLC and I liked them, Honestly I had low expectations about Outlast 2 but it pleasantly surprised me thanks to its setting, its excellent artistic side, its atmosphere, graphics and sound. For the gameplay and the story you could have done better but a good job was done. As for the difficulty I played it at hard difficulty and I did not find it frustrating I difficult. The controls in the boat section could be improved.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Outlast 2 is an excellent horror game but I personally find it inferior to its predecessor in terms of story. While the first was well structured and with a closed and well-scripted ending in the dlc, Outlast 2 follows another plot, focused on psychological. It's not a bad game, the gameplay has evolved a little compared to the predecessor, the graphics have improved a lot with the greater investment but the sin of the story weighs heavily on me, as much as it is an incredible idea in the proposal, the conclusion lacks a better ending. Still a great horror game and compared to its predecessor, with much better quality. Expand

In questo horror si può solo fuggire dai nemici: il protagonista è debole, e non ha la possibilità di fronteggiarli.
Nessuna arma, nessuna magia. Solo la fuga.
    Grafica discreta e buone ambientazioni.
Dura giustamente poco perchè alla lunga può diventare un po' ripetitivo.
Trama strutturata discretamente e scene crude.
    Livello di difficoltà medio.
    Un buon gioco.

Trying to piece the story together on what was actually happenning was fun. I think this was a big improment on the first game but it lost some of its horror from the first and turned more into a chase simulator

After playing outlast and whistleblower I was pretty excited for this one. However, the story felt weird and without sense most of the game, some mechanics fail and the level design could be better. As a horror game is good, as a whorthy sequel? I'm afraid not.

Despite spending a majority of the game running for your life, the atmosphere, enemies and environments contain some of the most eerily disturbing assets I’ve seen in a game. As a horror movie buff, you get a real sense of appreciation and inspiration for some classic horror movies. While clearly not for everyone, Outlast 2 is a memorable fright fest that packs the appropriate types of jump scares and gore galore. If you haven’t tried, make sure to play the original first. I will be going back to the first games DLC entitled The Whistleblower in the near future.

Red Barrels has tried to create something rather different to the first Outlast, but the result is a game that, while feeling undeniably grander than its forebear, is considerably less enjoyable. [July 2017, p68]
