Jan 31, 2018While a lot of focus on VR games comes from playing games in a first-person view, it’s great to have a change of pace with a real-time strategy game that includes an FPS element. On the outside, Out of Ammo doesn’t look inviting. Once you’re plopped in to the battlefield and realize all the small things needed to win on top of managing a base, though, it’s enthralling. The controls take a while to get comfortable with, but you’ll notice your own progression. As great as Resident Evil 7 or Gran Turismo Sport are in VR, Out of Ammo is the most fun I’ve had with PSVR. Just make it so players can retry a mission and not force them to exit out.

Jan 29, 2018The first-person gameplay is where the game really shines, offering immersion to the genre that only VR can.

Jan 29, 2018Out of Ammo is a great example of how to mix RTS and FPS gameplay into a viable package. It may be showing its early VR age now, but the gameplay is still as simple and fun as ever.

Jan 29, 2018This is a very interesting and original mix of FPS and RTS, that works quite well both alone or with up to four players.

Jan 29, 2018Out of Ammo offers a nice blend of RTS and FPS mechanics that's pretty fun. The ability to take possession of friendly units and fight alongside AI soldiers is a cool trick that puts you in the middle of action. It's unfortunate that known technical issues with the PlayStation VR don't allow for the level of precision I came to rely on during the heat of combat. It's also a little dry, content wise, as Survival maps differ only in terrain and setting--you'll always fight the same units no matter which map you choose. I look forward to what version 2.0 and 3.0 might look like down the line.

Jan 29, 2018Out of Ammo stands out as an example of a VR port gone wrong. While the core gameplay is fun, the room-sized parameters of a HTC Vive game simply do not work well on a PS VR. Playing this game feels like standing in the parking lot of an amusement park with no ticket. You can see the fun just inside, but you can’t quite reach it.

May 21, 2018Out of Ammo can provide thrilling RTS action, both in single and multiplayer modes. It’s never been this easy to keep track of a base and get right into the action, and there’s enough variety in all of the freeplay levels to keep strategy and action fans busy for a while. The lack of objectives or any kind of mission structure does hurt the game, though, and the lack of a clear goal to shoot for makes the whole thing feel a little too basic. Still, Out of Ammo suggests interesting new developments for the RTS genre, and I’d be interested to see a more fully-featured effort.
-
Jan 29, 2018The core of Out of Ammo is a decent strategy/shooter hybrid, offering a unique take on both genres. What kills a lot of the fun is the lack of PSVR customization, taking a room scale game and putting it into a much more restrictive space. Once you get past this it will be a decent amount of fun, but the lack of variety does diminish the real value of the game.
-
Jan 29, 2018Out of Ammo is a decent experience that blends RTS and FPS together, and if can be fun if you want something quick and not too taxing. However, it’s a game that shows its hand very quickly and doesn’t offer much beyond that.

Feb 1, 2018A fine concept isn't enough on its own merit... Especially with repetitive mission design and a control scheme that never manages to work properly. Skip it!

Feb 16, 2018While this review is hugely negative, the premise behind this game was a great one. While the execution wasn't great I believe that this game came out of the door too early, if the game had been delayed until later this year who knows if it would if had the same issues as it does now. Out Of Ammo is plagued with bugs and other issues, the core game is still there. While there isn't a huge amount of content to sink your teeth into, there are some fun moments to be had especially with a friend.

Apr 4, 2018There isn’t even a win condition, you just keep battering back identikit waves of badly drawn enemies in small, bland maps until one overwhelms you. It’s the video game equivalent of clinical depression.

Feb 8, 2018Even with what looks like decent ideas on paper, the implementation of just about everything in Out of Ammo is heinous. Looking for any semblance of positivity is like trying to find something new to watch on Netflix before your takeaway gets cold. No matter how good your day has been, Out of Ammo is willing and able to bring you down with a thump. You have been warned.
-
Jan 30, 2018The pitch for Out of Ammo sounds interesting on paper, but the execution is probably the worst PSVR game that I have ever played.
-
Jan 29, 2018There is nothing appealing about Out of Ammo. It has no character to it at all and even less polish to its name. This is a huge shame since the idea of an RTS that has a gameplay shift to first-person action does have potential. This is not how it should have been, though. This current build of Out of Ammo is not an Early Access version or an alpha or beta, (even though it plays like it); this is version 1.0. This is a monumentally rough and broken product that had several instances of controls failing to respond and even a crash in the span of only 90 minutes. Out of Ammo is an unplayable disaster.
