Nov 11, 2017In the end, Oure won me over as an indie title with a lot of heart, and absolutely has me begging to know what other secrets I missed as I soared through the clouds.
-
Nov 6, 2017Oure is a mixed bag of a game. The overall experience of playing it is a tug of war between beautiful dreamy vistas and frustrating controls and camera issues. If you're willing to just go with the flow and get used to these issues there is a lot to like here, but if you get frustrated by imprecise controls this isn't for you.
-
Nov 1, 2017It’s often beautiful, graceful and intriguing, with more in the way of gameplay than ABZU or Bound, but it struggles to deliver moments that resonate with wonder, while the demands sometimes go beyond what the controls and camera can handle. It’s hard enough to make a game with the artistry of Rime or Journey, but Oure hasn’t got the polish, heart or soul.
-
Nov 1, 2017Even as a brief five-hour adventure, Oure is thoroughly unpleasant. Even if the control scheme was better and everything was more polished, nothing beyond its distinct visuals makes Oure stand out or provide consistent entertainment. The concept of saving the world as a dragon taking on monsters in the skies is exciting, but the final experience falls far short of that vision.
-
Nov 7, 2017There just isn't very much to Oure beyond aimless exploring, since the battles are unsatisfying and brief and the collectables feel arbitrary. Lazily soaring through the clouds collecting orbs and finding secrets can be momentarily relaxing, but there's no compelling reason to keep exploring the clouds once you've wrapped up the Titan fights. The plot doesn't go anywhere, and the main action sequences feel like a small batch of concept proofs. Oure is the gaming equivalent of a daydream--it's pleasant and light, but it feels like a distraction rather than something worth latching on to.
-
Mar 21, 2018To some extent, Oure reminds me a lot of AER, another flight-heavy that seems like a bit of a wasted opportunity. Until the day when Heavy Spectrum and Daedalic Entertainment get together and make a really great flying game with a purpose, then, you’re stuck with what’s on offer here — and right now, that’s not enough to make Oure worth your time.
-
Nov 1, 2017Oure is a masterclass in how not to follow up on the success of Abzu and Journey. A seemingly interesting set-up quickly disappears, repetitive and frustrating gameplay dampens the experience further, and the abysmal controls make every second spent playing a depressing chore.
