May 20, 2025Onimusha 2 is the kind of game that the blockbuster side of the gaming industry feels like it’d be averse to these days, an ambitious sequel that completely leaves out everything the first game did, and keeps players in the dark. Even all these years later, I’m still blown away by the sheer gutsiness of the game, and in this case, I respect the choice to simply use this remaster as an update and not alter anything about the core vision of the game. If anything, I hope choosing to bring Onimusha 2 back in this way serves as inspiration for Capcom to re-embrace the series’ sense of experimentation as they revive it with Onimusha: Way of the Sword. At the very least, experiencing Onimusha 2 again all these years later has solidified in my mind — it’s one of Capcom’s biggest unspoken masterpieces.

May 23, 2025Onimusha 2: Samurai’s Destiny is a very good remaster worth every second and guaranteed to be fun. It’s a testament to a different era, but no less exciting for it. The audiovisual improvements, gameplay tweaks, and enough content to replay (despite its limitations and flaws) are enough to give you a glimpse into the past and prepare for what’s to come. Onimusha is emerging from obscurity, and that’s definitely a good thing.

May 20, 2025I was surprised how much I enjoyed revisiting Onimusha 2: Samurai’s Destiny. I hadn’t played it since it first came out on PS2. And I didn’t even realize there were multiple paths at the time; I just beat it while renting it over a week-long period. But I will happily buy a physical copy of the remaster if one is announced. I appreciate high production values from this PS2 era, so I found Onimusha 2 incredibly aesthetically pleasing. With Onimusha 4 on the way, I hope Capcom finds the time to remaster Onimusha 3 as well. Despite the sometimes frustrating fixed camera angles, goofy voice acting, and rushed second half, Onimusha 2: Samurai’s Destiny is one of my favorite games I’ve played this year.
-
May 20, 2025Not at all afraid to reveal its sense of humor, Onimusha 2: Samurai’s Destiny is a solid remaster of its original, camp-filled 2002 incarnation that both franchise fans and newcomers are bound to enjoy.
-
May 20, 2025This remaster of Onimusha 2: Samurai's Destiny is a great new way to play this timeless samurai tale. Whether you're a fan of the original or a newcomer to the series, don't hesitate to check this one out.
-
May 27, 2025Nostalgic for veterans and appealing to newcomers, the Onimusha 2 remaster is a leap forward compared to Warlords. The quality-of-life improvements are excellent, while the updated visuals give Jubei a fresh look. Despite this, the limitations of the fixed camera system remain evident.
-
Jun 17, 2025Another remaster to Capcom's belt, Onimusha 2: Samurai's Destiny Remaster is what you'd come to expect from them. Spit and polish have given this twenty-plus year old classic a nice gleam, as well as some additions and quality of life improvements to make it accessible. It may not appeal to newcomers as much, but to the old school crowd, it's a welcome palate cleanser until Way of the Sword arrives next year.
-
May 27, 2025Onimusha 2: Samurai's Destiny is another excellent addition to Capcom's remastering efforts, keeping all the interesting tension and charm of the original title while allowing it space to flourish with quality of life improvements and gorgeously realised art.
-
May 27, 2025Onimusha 2: Samurai's Destiny is a remaster that breathes new life into this PS2 era Capcom title in a remarkably faithful manner while also introducing several changes to cater to today's players' preferences. It works both as an excellent way to relive Jubei's journey and as an entry point for anyone interested, showing the reasons behind the love this saga received at the time.
-
May 26, 2025Onimusha 2: Samurai’s Destiny was a great game on PS2 and nothing has changed more than 2 decades later. The remaster has the same set of good and bad things, with some quality of life changes and bonuses that will appeal mostly to fans of the series.
-
May 21, 2025Onimusha 2: Samurai's Destiny is a strong update to a good game. It adds all of the polish and updated features I had wanted. Most of the problems I have with the game are ones that were true of the original release, too. It's a darn fun little follow-up to Onimusha: Warlords, which expands the gameplay without losing the fun feudal Japanese Resident Evil vibe the franchise has always had going for it.
-
May 21, 2025Even 23 years after its initial release, Onimusha 2 still lives up to its name. Improved visuals and numerous quality-of-life improvements make the game a truly immersive experience.
-
May 20, 2025Even with its retro baggage, Onimusha 2: Samurai's Destiny is an undeniably great game that fleshes out the original's formula very well and in some unexpected ways to boot. Plus, it looks excellent with its redone visuals so you're bound to have a lot of fun slaying demons.

May 20, 2025Quotation forthcoming.
-
May 20, 2025Despite it being released in 2002, Onimusha 2: Samurai's Destiny has some cool new features, and is still enjoyable to play in the current gaming climate.
-
May 20, 2025Considering how long Onimusha fans have been waiting for Samurai’s Destiny to make a return on modern platforms, the lack of significant bonuses doesn’t feel like a big sticking point. More than anything, it let me finally experience a brilliantly unique series that for years I’ve been missing out on.
-
May 20, 2025Despite being well over two decades old, Onimusha 2: Samurai’s Destiny has aged remarkably well, boasting terrific action combat bolstered by memorable bosses and cleverly designed puzzles that are all consistently gratifying. Admittedly, the bulk of the narrative and character writing is relatively weak. However, they’re still an improvement over what the debut entry provided, personally giving me hope for the later titles. Moreover, the newly added Hell Mode and easily accessible minigames make this return a meticulous one. Here’s hoping the rest of the franchise receives remastered treatments before Way of the Sword finally graces us.
-
May 20, 2025Onimusha 2 is a strange but good action game. There aren’t many things like it, but I’m glad it’s back just the way it is. The swordplay and progression are great and the story is an oddity determined by a number of decisions you make at crucial points. As such, there’s plenty to explore across a number of runs. The QoL and visual upgrades also add nicely without getting in the way or cheapening the experience. This remaster doesn’t hit every bullseye, but it’s an upgraded version of Onimusha 2: Samurai’s Destiny in most places that count and I’m happy to have it.

May 20, 2025Onimusha 2: Samurai's Destiny is a lot of fun. The HD update looks fantastic, while the classic gameplay remains intact. There are some solid quality-of-life updates added that fans are sure to enjoy. The enemy and boss designs are great, and the ensemble cast keeps things interesting. For better or worse, the gameplay is still totally on the classic end and, while most burrs have been buffed out, a few snags may remain for newcomers. This remaster is responsible for winning me over to the Onimusha franchise, and I hope more folks feel the same.
-
May 20, 2025It's always a joy to see a series as legendary as Onimusha return, especially when it's remastered in such a polished way as Onimusha 2: Samurai's Destiny. We've had a blast rediscovering Jubei's adventure more than 20 years later, thanks to new features like the new controls and the revamped graphics.
-
May 20, 2025Onimusha 2: Samurai's Destiny is a very welcome remaster of a great PS2 title that arrives on current platforms with much-needed improvements. Although it still retains some minor issues, fans of adventure and samurai games have a lot of joy in this important piece of Capcom's catalog.
-
May 21, 2025The remaster enhances the graphics and adds quality-of-life improvements while retaining the original's enjoyable combat and puzzle mechanics, though the dated fixed camera and limited graphical upgrades may frustrate some modern players.
-
Jun 2, 2025Onimusha 2: Samurai’s Destiny is a fantastic follow-up to a bona fide classic, that handily also doesn’t require you to have played the original to enjoy. The fixed perspective may have felt antiquated even in 2002, but its flamboyant cast, penchant for melodrama, and fantastic combat and boss battles more than make up for Onmiusha 2’s shortcomings. Though a Remaster, in many ways it’s closer to a solid port as it’s been touched up with a deft hand that understands that sometimes it’s the quirks of a game that make it so engaging in the first place.
-
Jun 2, 2025While there’s a lot to enjoy about Onimusha 2: Samurai’s Destiny, it feels like you’re just playing the game via backwards compatibility, and nothing more. This is the second consecutive time I’ve had to say this about the Onimusha franchise, but it deserves better than Capcom has given it via these remasters.
-
May 23, 2025It’s certainly not the best possible adaptation, but in reality, that wasn’t even Capcom’s goal. The choice was clear: while waiting for the release of the new chapter in the saga, Capcom decided to continue its march toward the fateful 2026 by resurrecting, after the first Warlords, this Samurai’s Destiny as well. Given the presence of the first installment in the series, it will be even easier for fans to decide whether Onimusha 2 is worth the purchase, since the premise was—and still is—exactly the same. The choice is yours.
-
May 22, 2025Onimusha 2: Samurai’s Destiny Remastered is a solid package that serves both newcomers to the franchise and those looking to revisit the series. The game improves upon its predecessor in several ways but isn’t among the most memorable titles of the PS2 era. Overall, it offers a good experience, though not an essential one.
-
May 22, 2025Six years after the release of the remaster of Onimusha: Warlords, the re-release of Samurai's Destiny presents itself to the public as an operation substantially in line with the characteristics of its predecessor. Yes, the package is overall more complete and refined, thanks to the inclusion of a few more gems, but the overall value of the proposal is fundamentally the same. It is therefore a good way to get closer to the saga in view of the new chapter, taking advantage of the enjoyability of a gaming recipe that, net of the wrinkles on the face of the production, is supported by mechanics that are still valid, provided you face Jubei's journey with the right spirit.
-
May 21, 2025Even with a mostly no-frills remaster, Capcom succeeds in bringing Onimusha 2 on modern hardware, so that a new generation of players can appreciate its combat system and rudimentary affinity system. A better game than its predecessor overall, but still not the best in the series, however.
-
May 21, 2025It's clear that Capcom wants to pave the way for the next title in the franchise, and it wouldn't be so far-fetched to see a third installment at some point follow suit. While there's no real connection between the protagonists, their goal is to eradicate Oda Nobunaga once and for all.
-
May 23, 2025Onimusha 2: Samurai’s Destiny, like an old katana, draws its blade once more, carving a path to modern consoles. Its age undoubtedly shows in places, but beneath the wear is a razor-sharp, thrilling demon-slaying adventure that still outclasses many of today’s flashier games.
-
Jul 29, 2025Onimusha 2: Samurai's Destiny is a good follow-up to the original Onimusha and improves on it in almost every way and this remaster is the definitive way to play it. The combat feels great, the upscaled pre-rendered background are gorgeous and the colorful cast of characters helps propel the story above the first game in the series. Some half-baked systems and mechanics hold it back from being truly great, but I still recommend this to those who love the original release and to those who may have never played the series before.
-
Jun 9, 2025Onimusha 2: Samurai’s Destiny fits an interesting place in gaming history. There’s a weightiness to the visuals and combat that place it more in the past, but the new life given from the analog controls cannot be understated. What results is a comedically charming story that is coupled with methodical action combat. The lack of reliable healing adds a layer of difficulty that makes taking hits problematic and gives added weight to the powerful boss encounters. This particular style of quirky nostalgic charm hasn’t been replicated since the original’s release and the modern improvements make this a treat that is enjoyable to experience firsthand.
-
May 27, 2025The remaster of Onimusha 2 is sure to stir nostalgia in longtime fans. It’s a great opportunity to relive Capcom’s classic action-horror, though it remains very much a product of its time, complete with gameplay elements that now feel dated. Still, it's hard not to appreciate Capcom’s effort in preserving a piece of gaming history.
-
May 26, 2025A solid remaster of a game that's very much a product of its era—brimming with charm and eccentricity that you'll either fully embrace or not, flaws and all.
-
May 26, 2025A nostalgic return for Onimusha fans, but its dated design may not hold up for everyone.
-
May 22, 2025Onimusha 2: Samurai’s Destiny is a nostalgic gem that mulches demons by a bunch, but fixed cameras and retro limitations make it more a love letter to the PS2 era than a modern hit. Worth a try if you love Capcom’s eccentricity, but don’t expect a masterpiece by today’s standards.
-
May 21, 2025Onimusha 2: Samurai's Destiny is a bold sequel that adds RPG elements into the mix and has more of an action focus. Awkward fixed camera angles add unwanted frustration to combat, though, and the new weapon switching mechanic is troublesome to use in the heat of battle.
-
May 21, 2025A visually upgraded but mechanically outdated remaster of a PS2 cult classic. Onimusha 2 retains its charm and historical value, but the stiff controls and static camera make it a tough sell for modern audiences. Best suited for nostalgic fans and genre historians.
-
May 20, 2025While we wait for the release of Onimusha: Way of the Sword in 2026, Capcom returns to the fray and rescues one of the best episodes of the saga, Onimusha 2: Samurai's Destiny. Available on Playstation, Switch, PC and Xbox consoles, the remastering stays in the previous generation offering a work that could have been better. Fortunately the original game is powerful enough to hold its own with what is undoubtedly the best option to relive the story of Jubei Jagyu and Oda Nobunaga.
-
May 20, 2025It's honourable, in a way, to present the Onimusha 2: Samurai’s Destiny remaster mostly unchanged from its original 2002 PS2 version. The visuals have been given a freshen up, and some smart changes – like weapon switching on the fly, auto-save, and more – definitely make for a more playable experience. But the fixed camera angles and dated production values don’t necessarily show Onimusha in the best light, leaving this remaster as a clunky history lesson for newcomers, and a solid throwback for fans.
-
May 20, 2025Onimusha 2: Samurai’s Destiny is a delightful time capsule that harkens back to a much simpler time when linear games still had a magical feeling of worlds feeling much bigger than they were. It’s an absolute joy to revisit for retro purists who appreciate a few modernised tweaks. So what are you waiting for? Go play it already.
-
May 20, 2025Even with the baggage of its PS2 origins, Onimusha 2: Samurai's Destiny is a welcome trip down memory lane.
-
Jun 18, 2025If nothing else, it whets the appetite for next year’s big Onimusha revival, so perhaps that’s job done after all.
-
May 21, 2025Some believe that in order to truly "remaster" a game, there has to be a mastered game to begin with, and in the case of Onimusha 2, it certainly (with all due respect) isn't a game that was made with mastery to begin with. A derided sequel given an appreciable but unsurprising remaster, Onimusha 2 is worthwhile to play if you didn't play it in 2002, and is a capable study for new players.
-
May 20, 2025If you’re eager to get closer to the Onimusha series ahead of Way of the Sword, Onimusha 2: Samurai’s Destiny is a great way to do that, but it’s an awkward action experience in 2025.
-
May 21, 2025Onimusha 2: Samurai’s Destiny is a highly influential classic, one that deserves a lot more love from Capcom than this drab remake has to offer. There was a brilliant opportunity to spoil the player with behind-the-scenes developer content here, but that chance has been squandered. Instead, you get to swap weapons with a button press rather than by going into the menu and sharper visuals. You're best off saving your money and digging your PS2 out of storage, I say.
