What a mind bending experience. To be real i can't give this game a full 10/10. Here's why: The 2nd play through is kinda annoying, you play a lot of the same and sometimes the hacking mini games can feel like a chore. There's also not a great variation of enemies and the side quest are uninteresting. I was kinda skeptic that i would fully finish the game, because everybody says you have to play it at least 3 times. This sound stupid, but you realize that the story expands as you play and the 3rd playthrough is completely new. So not a big problem. Every time you think something is weird about the game, just tell yourself "oh well, it's a Japanese game" and you'll enjoy it. You probably never played anything like that...and that's a good thing :) Expand

    few negative points :
    - low frame rates on PS4, sometimes it's very low it's embarrassing for a game like this
-most dialogues are without voice overs, you just read subtitles while characters stand there "sometimes not even looking at each other while talking"
other than that the game is a masterpiece, the soundtrack is a piece of art on its own.
nier automata has made it much harder for game developers from now on.

This is one unbelievably addictive game, smart and colourful combat with very creative type of enemy/machines having a go at you and a killer sound track, beautiful visuals and a slick game play with interesting characters and dialogs. Nier Automata is a success in every single way.

First of all the NieR:Automata actually has 2 completely different gameplays, one classic shoot em up (SHMUP) version and one quick intense beat em up based action mixed with variation of long range projectile battling, and than its some roleplaying elements sprinkled over it.
Furthermore, the game is not only in 3D action but also features complete 2D stages which reminds one of classic great game from the Super Nintendo and Sega Genesis era.

Lets first look at the base action(and ignore the SHMUP for now), NieR:Automata has a great flow to the action. Standard of Platinum previous games and the game do actually play as a mix between Bayonetta and Vanquish. Many of the bosses do truly split in between a hack and slash high tempo action or 3D shooter where its about avoiding bullets while hitting them with your special abilitets.
NieR:Automata features 4 different main weapons, short swords, large swords, spears and fist weapon. You can set up 2 weapon as your main and than easily swap between the 2 preset. Combos are based around mixing the 2 different weapons equipped and/or by holding the buttons down.

During all of that, you also have your pod. Your companion and often a very logical(wanting to kill everything) personal partner. The pod is the living gun that you will use for shooting at enemies, while this mainly feels like its to be used for the shooter part of encounters, it actually a big part to learn how to constantly fill your enemies with bullets while you punch them in the face a big part of mastering the combat. This is both hard and rewarding, especially when you also combo in the special abilitets that your pod has.
The most important customizeable part of the game is to what your pod should do, first the pod has the Lazer which is often the best thing to have and the go to ability but there is a lot of cool and interesting special abilitets. You will also later have more then 1 pod and than just like the weapon can be swapped constantly, each pod have their own unique projectile so this is important to maximum damage but even more so to trigger your different abilitets for great effect.

Mastering the combos of weapon + using the pods + abilitets is quite a challenge and the core gameplay simply is a blast to enjoy.
But the best part is actually the mix between 2D and 3d. This game has a very cool how it mixes this things so effortlessly. You can have a whole dungeon as 2d, but the boss be in 3d. Or Vice versa. Some stages mixes this back and forth constantly this is showcased mainly in the shmup stages that do this constantly. A part of the shmup can be in Side 2D, the next Overhead 2D. Then classic rail shooter, into a 3d etc. All of this is extremely impressive, especially as some bosses are fight in both 3d and 2d, so even if its the same boss they have different feel to them as the sudden 2d limitation can be make the encounter feel vastly different.

The Shmup part then its actually what NieR:Automata starts with and then this game mode will be used every now and than. Its extremely nauseating difficult on very hard but otherwise its generally just a fun game experience, arguably to easy on the other difficulty. As mentioned on the Shmup part the game truly love to constantly swap the perspective and its 2 main different ones, whiel it features several different 2d views they all play the same. But in the 3d view, the games go classic Gundam and the airplanes becomes a mecha that has fighting abilitets.
The mecha part is played in a similar way to standard combat, you have weak and strong attacks which are in melee range, you got your special abilitets etc. The different 2ds are purely airplane mode and than you have only projectiles.
The only real problem with the shmup is that the game overall has an issue that enemies can both move and shoot during cut scenes, so each time the game changes perspective you might die, you cannot move during perspective change so especially on very hard then this might kill you. Enemies also fly into you in wait for the perspective to change and this will make projectile spawn at your face in some parts of the game. (On the standard gameplay there are places when you are completely surrounded by machines after the cut scene or load finishes as well)

The game is semi open world where you can explore areas that are currently unlocked and you later gain more areas by getting further in the story. You have classic rpg elements like crafting and improving weapon and pods, these are fine but not fantastic you simply get the mats and than you can make them better, but its also a lot of hidden items to find. The game also has fishing and some of the side quest are kinda like their own mini games for example there is a racing side quest where you have to get to places in a set amount of time. The game ha

I'm enjoying Nier Automata with PS4 Pro and the frame drop is somewhat makes me hard to focus on the game. I'ts not common but certain map shows poor frame rate. And the map system is not very intuitive. Every time I need to press option button to check my whereabouts and where the quest place is. Despite some flaws Nier still is a one of my best game so far. Gameplay 8/10: Platinum games always bring high value gameplay and design and Nier automata is none the less although we have few animations and combos you can do and finishers are quite useless in the mid-late game. About the RPG elements we got the old classic level up and a stunning 128 slot (well 126 if you don't want to die) perk tree where u can fit as u can see fit for the battle or situation you have to face. And last but not least the upgrade mechanic of weapons that can be tedious as some point but it's nice and simple. The game is also quite challenging if you dont level up with some side quests (by the way they are fun and quite different between them) and it also have the insane difficulty fvor the most hardcore players, where you will die in a single hit.

SoundTrack 9,5/10: it's outstanding how a soundtrack with vocals can fit into an adventure game even if sometimes the soundtrack and overwhelm the character voices during a battle for example.

Story 10/10: nothing to say about the story, it's amazing, it's sad, it's bright, it's dark, it got everything a good script must have to be a mastrpiece. The only thing that i raccomand is to play Nier first cause there are tons and tons of references from the previous games, but still you can enjoy this game as a standalone.

Graphic and Design 8,5/1: Graphics are good, not amazing, but we have to tune down something to put up everything else, those "outdated" graphics can lead the PS4 to run this game at a stunning 60 FPS (with some major drops to 40 in the most intense battles) so its a good compromise to have this smooth gameplay. About the design we have a little issue with the world, it's not a full open world, some areas will unlock as you progress the story so there is no "oh s**t it's 20 levels above me, maybe i have to return this area later" istead the are a lot of closed doors or barricades made especially for you, but the game feels anyway good and full of thing to explore once you have everything unlocked (fast travel too).

Characters 9,5/10: And we are at the characters, what can i say, Yoko Taro already said to us "I really like girls", that's why the ENTIRE central command of the androids is filled with stunning beautiful female model of the Yorha Project (except for the Scanner type, more specific 9S in the game) so we dont have a large diversity friendly characters. About enemies there are something like 60-70, if not more, types of enemies and all feels very unique. The main protagonists have a great develop during the entire game, at some point you can easily predict what they are going to do in certain situations, this is what i call a good character design.

And that's it! i couldn't say more than this becouse even going 2 hours into the game we would have spoilers that compromise the first half of the game, so the best thing you could do now is go and grab this game!

This open game world isn't especially large and indepth as a lot of modern open world games are. However, the game play mechanics, story, and the seamless switching between 3d action, 2.5d platformer and 2d space shooter make this game fun. The great soundtrack and visuals really give this game a coherent aesthetic, that really plays well with immersing you into the world.

I would have liked to see a larger map with more playable area, more/better side quests, and better graphics. However this was the first game in a while where i couldn't put the controller down, and after I had completed all endings I was a very satisfied and happy person.

Story - The story is interesting, astoundished and leads the player into so much questions, but that's how Squenix (Square Enix) start their stories. Having an all female (And one male to be seen) Android operative squad, fight against aliens (In which the player hears about but never gets to see them) who created machines to wipe out all of humanity on Earth seems to be something out of an anime show considering there are a total of 26 endings to beat the whole game (Only 20/26 I have unlocked so far). In which most of these ending end up in a dark, or a joke twist and would lead to a sequel.
Gameplay - The open world is very well put. But the level up design is only for show as it only powers up your defense and attack power, no other customization besides weapons. 2b's fighting style is that of Dante from Devil May Cry and her... Design is from Bayonetta. You got to hand it to Japan for making the best female design. The machines are what got me interested in, as they develop emotions and characters of their own as the player progresses deeper into the game. The music sometimes repeats the same soundtrack whenever the player jumps into any battle including bosses, but the music is great overall. The gameplay changes the camera angle depending on the platform the player is in, which makes this game feel like a Devil May Cry moment.
Mechanic - Though the combo input list is short, the animation it brings in is Platinum's signature move. The player can also freely switch between weapon and hand to hand combat during combos to make the game more interesting. Pods come in handy when keeping your enemies at distance and help the player from taking fall damage. Having 9s to help the player out and changing his fighting tactics remind me of Kingdom Hearts 1 and 2 as the player can change 9s fighting type from agressive, defensive, support or protect. The dodging mechanic is the players best savior when constantly tapping the R2 button to dodge a frenzy attack and executing with an uppercut and perform some aerial combos (Won't work on small bosses though).
Characters - 2b and 9s already have a weird relationship after their first mission, especially 2b, if anything happens to 9s she goes to a panic/anger attack on the machines if anyone hurts 9s. But makes sense for 9s being the only male to be seen in the YOHRA squad, but seeing 9s trying to communicate 2b with humor and having 9s being the damsel in distress is humorous. What's wierd to me is that all characters consider Pascal a male even though her voice is female, could it be that some machines can have a homosexuality chip in their circuit showing that the world and machines can appear in many and different ways, or was this a dialogue mistake from Squenix?
Conclusion - Story is interesting, Gameplay is astounding, mechanics are fun to input and the characters have flaws in their appearance and actions. Niet: Automata gives an interesting route to the game of it's story, gameplay and it's open world. With so many endings I believe that is the reason why DLC is not shown or required for this game.
    Final Verdict:
9/10 - The game is so much fun and having the gameplay change time to time after unlocking each ending gives new way of gaming.
Buy, Not Buy or Rent - Buy. This game is well suited for Devil May Cry/Bayonetta fans out there including some New comers who have little to no experience of action role-playing games.
Video version will be up soon.

    - Amazing soundtrack
    - Smooth, responsive controls
    - Smooth, satisfying combat
    - Amazing English voice acting
    - Great atmosphere
    - Surprising, unusual narrative, plot twists and gameplay mechanics

    Cons:

    - The game forces you to tediously run around back and forth on the open world if you want to be doing side quests. This has caused me to give up on some side quests because I just couldn't be bothered to do all that long, boring running around.
    - While interesting design-wise and atmosphere-wise, the open world is empty and plain and it doesn't live up to 2017 open world games standards
    - Graphics are not quite up to 2017 standards as well. While the character models look ok, the rest of graphics are unimpressive and often feel like a budget or previous-gen game
    - Robots are too childish IMO. After seeing the first gigantic boss, I expected robots to look badass and menacing. When I saw that they look and act like childs toys, I was actually kinda disappointed and put off. But I got used to it eventually.

Overall, I can say that you will be thinking about this game for long days, weeks, months or maybe even years after finishing it. One of the best games of all time.

    My Doubts
Initially, I was fascinated by the trailers and videos I saw online but was also sceptical. Fans had hyped this game up with so much praise all of which sounded vague when you tried to understand what made this special. Things such as "it will make you cry", "it gave me an existential crisis", "the story is amazing" didn't prepare me for what was in store and to top it off the rumoured "multiple play throughs" nearly put me off trying the game at all. I didn't want to buy into the hype only to encounter a game where the story and philosophical meaning goes completely over my head leaving me with nothing to enjoy.

Multiple play throughs are great game design
Fortunately, none of this happened. I found the multiple play throughs varied enough to be unique experiences, similar to experiencing the clever level design of a soulsbourne game - an ever-expanding maze. Just this time, we had different characters telling their side of the story within this maze. Some may disagree with me but the second playthrough was my favourite. It was quite fortunate that I didn't go into this totally blind as I stumbled across the best approach for myself. I played the first time through with a vanilla experience in mind ignoring the many side quests and focusing on the main storyline. This worked out perfectly as the second run with 9S - who had access to more elements of game - make exploration a lot more rewarding. You got to open more treasure boxes with your hacking ability and you received more cutscenes and world-building that were not available in the first playthrough. Also by then, I started to come to terms with the new weapons, the additional skills and items I picked up. On top of new equipment to customise my experience. I think this is best way to enjoy the multiple playthroughs. Treat the first one like a linear experience and explore the second one like a normal RPG. Try new weapons and fighting styles and you'll be better rewarded rather than burning yourself out on side missions and maxing your build the first time round. Which is what open world players tend to do. Also I would recommend saving buying the HUD Item Scan Chip for the second playthrough as it made exploration ten times better by making it less grindy more focused and rewarding.

This is a work of art
Everything about this game is fitted together in a jigsaw puzzle of emotion, philosophy, gameplay, character development, sound and art design. You play sections of this game from 3D Action style, Side stroller, top-down Action, geometry wars-style all the way to bullet-fest battles. It's a buffet of gameplay formats executed in timely fashion. Then you are delivered a story in carefully crafted trail of cutscenes, written text, individual character's moments, witty dialogue and plot twists. All of this is enhanced by the best soundtrack of 2017 or even this generation so far. This is how you utilise the video game genre to deliver a story in such a well-crafted way. Not many games go beyond cutscenes in terms of storytelling. Not many games draw upon elements from this many genres to deliver a complete gaming experience. I think this is what makes this game so special, it feels like a video game but at the same time, well-told story. Neither the storytelling or the gameplay are holding each other back. They work in parallel and it's beautiful.

The game is feature packed, refreshing with enough plot twists to hold your attention on the most eloquent roller coaster ride you'll ever experience.

The only cons I can say are the graphics / framerate / combat system which could have been more polished but that didn't take away from the experience at all.

Dos jogos atuais Nier: Automata possui a melhor trilha sonora, o gráfico ficou um pouco a desejar e o jogo em si me pareceu tão curto queria que o jogo fosse maior... XP

Let me start with the two things that are on another level of good, the gameplay/combat and the music both are excellent, also the story is great and is extremely emotional with such good developed characters. Despite rating it as a 9, for me is a 9.5.

Nier: Automata is so close to being a master piece, it's beautiful, interesting, amazing music, and amazing character design, and hard to predict. Where this game fails to reach perfection is the gameplay itself, it just feels like it's missing a little something extra, there is much running around the world that just isn't fun.

hours and hours of quality gameplay. Grinding is quite enjoyable, you don't really have to spend hours calibrating your gear, great variety of characteristics along the gameplya. Weak story.

I have to say that Nier: Automata is a fantastic and addicting game. The graphics are beautiful, the music does exactly what it should do and that is immerse you deeper in the game. The story line is great and keeps you in the game. Overall, I was not expecting much but when I got this game I found a gem!

NieR: Automata is one of the closest a videogame has come to being a piece of art in my opinion. The story, visuals, style and music are all incredible and this is bolstered by being a really slick, challenging and fun game to play. Its pacing is a bit inconsistent, and this intrudes on the overall experience a little, preventing it from reaching the perfect score it's so near to.

The plot for this game is more than just a story - the philosophical nature of the world where robots and androids fight a war on behalf of other races presents so many deep, meaningful questions. The characters (mainly 2B and 9S) are also fantastic, and the overall experience is pensive, mournful and cathartic all at the same time. This is definitely one of the best-written games I've encountered in a while and is on par with some of the golden age Final Fantasies or Metal gear Solid's most impactful moments for storytelling. It's hard to talk too much without spoiling, but this is way deeper than any videogame has gone before, and I'm still thinking about the wider implications of the plot now.

Visually, this game is stunning. Its actual graphics may not be on par with Uncharted 4, for example, but instead NieR is grounded by a beautiful washed out pallet which extends from environments to menus to costumes. It's easily the most stylish game on PS4, sophisticated and thought out. The appearance of bright red lasers and purple explosions are jarring against the wreckage of utopia in which the game is set. Particle effects are brilliant during battle too, and the world was a joy to explore (something that is always recommended and rewarded).

Gameplay-wise, NieR is excellent. The battle system is aggressive, fast-paced and weighty (think Bayonetta) with more than enough customisable depth to make it varied. Lots of weapons, plug-in chips (upgrades) and chances to grind for levels are available, in this respect it's traditional RPG. Plug-in chips are difficult to get your head around but ultimately satisfying. The real place that NieR shines is its constantly-evolving gameplay styles. From hack-n-slash, bullethell, 2D platforming, space invader style shooters, on-rails shooters and overhead action, this game seamlessly blends so many different genres into one and the result is so captivating. Changes are frequent and plot-related, and always refreshing. Bullethell sections in particular are hectic and difficult, but so much fun. Side quests are basic but gratifying and almost always give you something to think about whether it be a minor character's motives, a relic of the old world, or a plot enriching detail.

The game's only flaw in my opinion is the pacing. It is designed to be played through multiple times from different perspectives to truly open up the wonderful story and characters, but the 2nd act in particular (while adding the gameplay element of hacking into the mix) is slow, and has a lot of recycled material. I see what the aim was story-wise, and respect and enjoyed this aspect, but in terms of playing the game, I was extremely put off by this. I was hesitant to return at times, but always found myself eventually enjoying it again. The third act is great, and worth the slog. But the mid-section slump is significant and stands in the way of me awarding this otherwise flawless game a 10. A game you love should be consistent throughout and while the other aspects in NieR mentioned are, the pacing change is so abrupt (if you want to do side-quests and get the full low-down on the plot) it is hard to ignore.

I can't recommend NieR: Automata enough, despite the pacing issue. It's a tough, engrossing and exhilarating world, perhaps a bit anime and melodramatic at points (not a bad thing), but the thoughts raised about artificial intelligence, humanity, fate and purpose are truly magnificent and unlike anything I've ever experienced. Get this game.

NieR Automata: Beyond Gods Edition was a total shock to me with how much I enjoyed it. It takes a very solid experience for me to enjoy an RPG lately and NieR grabbed me quite well from the beginning and kept me entertained throughout. It's the type of game where I want to do everything that I possibly can just to make the experience longer - a type of game I rarely find nowadays. I went into NieR Autamata with no expectations other than the good gameplay that I usually find from Platinum Games, I went away floored with a near perfect action game.

NieR: Automata is not for everybody. In fact, the game looks to be aimed at the most refined fans of the medium by not caring about the regular gaming conventions, in the same way the works of David Lynch are perfect for the hardcore moviegoers.
