The engine is EXACTLY the same with a few new animations. All the same goals are there. All the same hits are there. Its basically NHL 14 with a new camera mode, two new bland announcers, grainy player textures (I guess the crowd was more important), and half the gamemodes. If that sounds like $60 dollars to you I feel so sorry for you. Expand

The Graphics are looking very nice but we seemed to have suffered so much because of them as we learned that Good Graphics are meaning less if game play and the futures we want are not there. PS4/Xbox1 versions are missing a lot of content that is in the 360/ps3 around online play.

One of the biggest glaring omissions the lack of players allowed within an online match.
The AI will dump the Puck into the net on itself.
Pratice is limited at one on Goalie.

If you only care about playing an offline standard hockey game, without much of anything else this NHL 15 will meet that, but truth be told if you want a robust online game experience, WAIT and skip Ps4/Xbox1 versions until next year altogether.

If EA comes out with an update that brings the same game modes and features back that were in NHL 14 there is no doubt in my mind users who rated this game a zero would change their review of this game to a 9 or 10. If you don't think the gameplay is amazing than clearly you haven't played this franchise in the past. It's unlike anything I have ever played and is the closest thing to realism in a hockey video game. Just give us back our EASHL, HUT offline, GM connected, and for God's sake let me edit Anthony Mantha's stats to be 95 overall before I launch "Be a GM". Expand

    Visual Presentation 8/10:
From a pure graphics standpoint, the game looks great. The arenas look really detailed for the most part and the players look great. With a leap in technology from the PS3 to the PS4, this was to be expected. What wasn't expected however was the lack of cleanliness in the menu screens you use to select your game mode. It's a far cry from the previous simple-to-use menu options found in previous NHLs.

    Sound 7/10:
Overall, the sound from the game is good, but not great. The goal horns from the games i've played have sounded authetic, however there is work going around that some horns are non- existant or completely different than the official goal horns. If that is the case, it's an inexcusable omission as the sound capture for these horns involves little work. The sound quality of the announcers though are very good. The sound track of the game is very weak which hits the score hard. Last year's NHL didn't have a high number of sound tracks, but worked better with the game. Whereas this version's soundtrack puts you to sleep. Very disappointing.

    Depth 5/10:
And that's being generous. Everyone knows by now the amount of game modes missing, so I won't list them. I personally really enjoyed Be a Pro in previous NHLs, and the inability to sim to your next shift is puzzling considering how much time is added to each game. Additionally, you can't start out in the minors and build your player up which then makes the Be a Pro mode even less appealing. HUT is still there (becuz EA and $$$) and standard online play is still there, but the volume of modes missing is head- scratching to say the least.

    Overall 6/10:

I bought this game as more of a social thing. I play against friends who have moved far away which allows time to catchup with them. Because of that, I knew what I was getting and it satisfied my needs for the most part. However, demanding full- price for a game with half the game options is concerning. Let's hope NHL16 has all the modes back, or else EA will lose even more hockey fans than they have this time around.

Don't buy all these 0-3 scores. They aren't commentary on the game, but commentary on this missing modes. The gameplay is better than ever. The pucks move randomly and realistically and if you play on hardcore mode it's quite authentic. Yes, full modes would be great, but it's not like the game is broken.

The GM mode is great. If you like hockey, getting this game is not a mistake.

For a new next-gen revamp, i actually enjoyed the realism and puck physics that it had to offer however i do realize most of the typical basic info like "3 star rating" wasn't even displayed in the game which i wonder how something so simple as that wasn't implemented in the game. I do realize the negative reviews that's shown here but really the game does not deserve a 0-3 rating if anything i would rate this game between a 6-7 (which seems more appropriate despite the missing game modes and features). Otherwise i do enjoy the game the way it is and with EA putting out updates for the game within the months, i plan to keep the game that was meant to play on a next gen console. Expand

People giving this a 2 or 0 because things are still being upgraded to the next gen platform is unfair. The graphics are a huge step up, they fixed problems with the AI and physics and the gameplay is great. I docked 3 points for the lack of depth but I feel a 6-7 score is most fair for this product.

I understand that people are upset with the lack of features and they don't think EA should put out an unfinished game BUT if they put out NHL15 after hockey season starts, those same people would be crying and saying, they should have just put it out and then updated with patches so we could have it to play when hockey season starts. On the flip side, if they put out a game where the game play was poor but had a ton of features, you would still be crying. Fact is, it's easier to patch in the modes than patch in better core mechanics. I'm disappointed at the lack of content as well but i'm glad they put their focus on the core rather than the features. So take the solid game play and graphics until they patch in the modes.

CONS: Considering how good the gameplay, is it is a damn shame that everything else about the game absolutely sucks. From the repetitive and outright stupid commentary to the activity feed to the injuries to the way a season carries itself out in Be a Pro ... it is all sub-par at best. The game is also littered with bugs. For example, Ray Ferraro, who is annoying at the best of times, will often repeat the same bloody line over and over again at every stop in play. It's enough to make you break your TV. Some of the lines spit out by Mike Emrick and Eddie O are ridiculous. If EA put as much effort into everything that surrounds the excellent gameplay, this game would be a winner overall. The EA NHL team should learn from NBA2K15 about how to make a *complete* and compelling sports game. I hope they will make major changes to next year's edition.

The bad is simple. We wanted EASHL and didn't get it. I also wanted GM Connected. It''s a major downer. The GM mode has always been my complaint about these games however. It's far too easy to make trades, there's very little depth, the rating system isn't very well done and the simming takes ages. Add that with the horrible menus and what you got is a great hockey game that only earns you a 6. Hardcores will love it.

I hope, for the sake of the series to live on, that EA fix EASHL for it, new features and updated tools for goalies, club management with more detailed player creation and everything else that the forums are requires, if they don't, the series will die pretty soon.
