Rubberbanding AI feels almost soul-crushingly unfair. What is the point of being good at a racing game if the AI can catch up with little to no regard to a lead that you build up? At this point the rubberbanding is bad enough that it makes me feel very regretful for preordering the game. I'll keep playing to see if I can tolerate it, but I don't see it getting any better. If it doesn't, then it's a deal-breaker.

    Cons:
-Terrible dialogue in the story that is nothing but cringeworthy and really drag you out of the experience
-The story is short and leaves you with almost nothing to do when you're done
-Ultra dumb AI that you will blast past in the beggining of every race only to have them catch up to you towards the end because of some terrible rubberbanding
-Always online which DOES NOT WORK WITH YOUR SERVERS EA. Expect to get randomly thrown out of OFFLINE races because of connection problems
-Graphically it sometimes looks amazing, but mostly boring and slightly ugly. Now this is not really a problem for me except there are some major frame drops when going from dusk to dawn and occasionally mid race.
-The city is dull. There are little to no cars driving around and you sometimes have the feeling you're in a Walking Dead Episode
    -NO Wheel support
-NO manual transmission, which for my part would not be a problem as long as the automatic one works, but it doesn't and sometimes your speed out of a corner is completely ruined due to the fact that the car refuses to shift downwards

    Pros:
+Great customization on most cars which gives each car an individual feel and will have you playing to upgrade that part, or get to that bumper or body kit
+Nice tuning capabilities which allow you to play the game as a true arcade game or a slightly more sim racer
    +Good car handling
All in all this is NOT the NFS reboot most of us were expecting, although it is slowly heading in the right direction. The only thing the devs need to do is to LISTEN to the community and remove the always online ****

Another thing that really put me off were the live action cut scenes, they're just really boring and kill immersion. The characters are flat and missions are not as well designed as previous NFS games. The worst part is that this game is always online... that just sucks. Whoever decided to make this game always online needs to go f**k himself. This is a critical design flaw as online interactions are very rare. This game would be better if they just removed that. Let's start with the good. The graphics are quite amazing and the customization allows for many amazing creations. Then from there on it is downhill for need for speed.

The rubberbanding effect is mediocre and frustrating. Last minute you're about to win here comes a "rocket propelled" miata for the win out of nowhere. Then on top of all these frustrations the game stops your progression by forcing you into car that is slower than your opponents and not allow you to tune it and gives the faster car a head start and tells you to win. This kind of gameplay has to have been thought of by some retard.

Then there is the always online. I have to keep hitting "X" on the tittle screen for 30 minutes before it lets me into the game. which is stupid since I don't play with other players no do I ever see them in game.

Overall, don;y be fooled by the visuals and the ads. This game is **** and its light years away from being a proper arcade racing game.

I have avoided EA games for this reason, yet I hoped they have changed. Never again will I ever fall for this trap. My advice is: save your money and not buy it or wait for this game to be in the $1 bin to buy it. That's how insignificant this game is.

Choosing BRZ out of first 3 cars was no brainer for me, I love it, so much customization for it.
Based on the first impressions. I love it and can’t wait to get back home and play some more.
If you want another online racing game go look elsewhere, if you enjoy single player street racing games this just for you.
For those who complain about driving experience, it’s an arcade game which supposed to be fun and it is. If you want realistic (authentic handling) driving experience buy a real car with a stick and start driving. It is like complaining that sex doll does not feel like a real thing.

Almost forgot drifting is so amazing in this game.

First off, it needs a constant internet connection at all times to even play it. Yeah, it is an always online game! The weird thing is, it shouldn't even need one there is no reason for it at all. All past Need For Speed games didn't need a constant internet connection to play, so why does this one? My internet can be quite patchy, so i found myself unable to play the game at all while my internet connection was patchy. Also, because it needs a constant online connection, the game does stutter quite a bit in places. It spoils the game entirely. The handling is awful and takes a long time to get used to. I've played a lot of racing games over the years and get used to the handling pretty quickly. But not with this game, it takes a time. The game world feels empty and dull. As a result the game get's very boring very quickly. The cut scenes are just laughably cringeworthy and bad. They try so hard to be cool that they fail miserably. The A.I is poor. I've been about half a mile behind, only for the other racers to slow down until i catch them up. Once you catch them up, and you will catch them up stupidly quick, they all of a sudden want to race again. They have done this in an attempt to make the races exciting, but it just feels silly. All race games have a form of catch up on them, but this was is the worst because it is so blatently obvious. There is also no option for manual shift. Which is very odd given that this game has a lot of customization. The customization is one of the only good things about this game. There is quite a lot to customize like previous underground games. Just a shame the rest of the game spoils it. The graphics are good in places. Sound is also quite good. So, if you are looking to relive the glory days of Need For Speed Undergound 1 and 2, forget it, its not happening with this entry. There are glimpses of nostalgia, which is what it is going for, but they are so poorly done it doesn't compare to the Underground games of the past. It doesn't even add anything new. Expand

N4S was one of my all time favorite racing games and THE racer to get, well up until Most Wanted, after that it has been a downward spiral and so in an attempt to get back to the glory days of N4S, EA and Ghost Games have brought us a the latest version of the franchise simply named Need for Speed. There is no doubt that it is a shiny game with gorgeous graphics but unfortunately all this game does is prove that great looking graphics does not make a game. A positive of this game is the customization, you can do almost anything short of rebranding the car, add that to the great visuals and you cant help thinking that you have built a sweet ride, as well it should be but this is where the gameplay lets you down. The potential is there but you cant help feeling that Ghost Games really missed out on a great opportunity here. Even for an arcade game, in my opinion, the handling of the cars, is to say the least, sluggish compared to other racers of the same genre. When it comes to the story you cant help thinking why Ghost Games even bothered? It is poorly written and the acting is just as bad, add to that the constant annoyance of the phone calls even mid race and does not make for a good experience.

DRM is pretty much a hated term especially in gaming and even though EA claims that always online is for the benefit of the players and is not DRM, the fact is, that it is. Ghost gave a bunch of reasons why N4S is always online and it all points to a better experience, the sad truth of it all is that it is not and none of the reasons that they gave really justifies why the game should be "always online". If you have a poor connection or your internet is down for a period of time the game will be inaccessible.

Because this is an opinion piece I cannot directly tell you not to buy this game but with other great racing games out there like DriveClub and Forza which offer great visuals with a better driving experience and isnt marred by DRM, you have to ask yourself, why would you want to buy it.

The music and sounds of the game sound fantastic so kudos there.

    Now the bad:
The city doesn't feel alive. Minimal traffic from the parts I saw and not a ton of racers in the streets.

The customization is severely lacking for a lot of cars. The FRBZ-86 triplets have ridiculous amounts of customization where as other cars like the Volvo have barely any. There's no apparent rhyme or reason as to why either, it's like they just threw darts at a dartboard with car mods attached to it and went with whatever the arrows hit. Why even have cars like the Volvo in there with little to no customization when there are choices like the 350z/370z, S14, Evo X, Chaser, etc. which has tons of cosmetic and performance mods available? It's honestly kind of baffling to me.

Rim selection is also skewed. Again, the triplets have a ton of rims available but during the stream when the player was going through the rims there was a noticeable drop off in available models for the Evo and RX-7.

Cops are garbage and way too easy to get away from. There was no radio chatter between the cops just the "intense" get away from the cops music.

Rubber banding AI is still prevalent, maybe not as bad as the beta but it's still very noticeable.

The phone is ringing off the hook 24/7. I don't need Spike's punk ass telling me what to do and I don't want Robyn calling me all the time trying to get me into a drift train love triangle. Let me race and do my own thing with calls every once in a while or have them send a text message instead of calling me when the game wants to remind me to do something.

My final and most important thing, the handling its horrendous. I get that there's the slider and you can adjust it the way that you want to but I shouldn't have to suffer driving a bar of soap on rails until I can afford/unlock the required upgrades to be able to drive properly. I'm not asking for Gran Turismo, Assetto Corsa or even FM6 levels of handling, I just want to be able to drive in a straight line going really fast, make a slight movement on the joy stick and not initiate a drift. Grip settings make it so you can't race properly so you're then forced to make the car a hodgepodge of drift and grip. I shouldn't have to work this hard to be able to enjoy your game.

There are a lot of other good ideas that I agree with but these issues seemed like the most pressing to me personally and are big reasons why I'm taking a wait and see approach with this game versus it being a day 1 buy like it used to be before the beta and live streams. I hope Ghost Games can figure it out because I would hate to see NFS end with an attempt to make it great that misses all the key points.

The fact that you can fully max out an original AE86 with all the crazy body kits is enough for you, if you are an Underground fan, to enjoy the game immensely. Do not trust review especially by IGN because they didn't even mention the customization part in the final marking scheme, this is plain stupid.

I suggest that anyone scoring this more than 6 either doesn't engage in the game completely, does not possess a competitive edge or worse still, has some alternative investment for doing so.

My first review, after a few days, looks generous; but now, almost 3 weeks on and perhaps a little over 200 hours play [shared between xbox and ps4], I'm struggling to rate it any higher than 4/10
I suggest that anyone scoring this more than 6 either doesn't engage in the game completely, does not possess a competitive edge or worse still, has some alternative investment for doing so.

My first review, after a few days, looks generous; but now, almost 3 weeks on and perhaps a little over 200 hours play [shared between xbox and ps4], I'm struggling to rate it any higher than 4/10

So lets get the source of these 4 points out of the way:
It has a very acceptable choice of cars, modifications and handling dynamics [1point.] There is a good variety of events, from easy to very challenging, and in the main they are enjoyable [1 point] The vinyl editor is fiddly and limited but with patience plus creativity, you can just about achieve anything [1 point] There is the environment, themed as it is, a bit on the gloomy side, but large enough, varied enough and interesting enough [1 point]

    Now, the pointless;
I will start with the glaringly obvious statement of 'This is a racing game' and, as the game and franchise reminds us, there is a 'Need For Speed.' For the casual player this is perhaps not an issue but for those of us who vigorously compete against all-comers, it is vital that the Speedwalls give us the information required and are geared up for competitive racing. This means event completion times need to, and must, go beyond minutes & seconds, we simply must have tenths & hundredths of seconds, maybe even thousandths. This level of accuracy is vital, these fractions are the difference between being first and being the first loser; the rivalry that exists in online racing is intense. The speedwall should also be available automatically & immediately after an event ends without having to wait around 10 seconds for the cinematic to return you to 'free-roam' and without having to perform 3 actions to view the updated information. The first thing a racer wants to know once they hit that finish line is 'how did I do & how does that affect my position' Perhaps every Speedwall should be 'topped' with the 'World Record' for that event?

I get so annoyed that games are released with so many flaws, bugs and glitches. When a blockbuster Movie is released it is finished and polished, it is the definitive article; not so with games it appears, and certainly not the last 2 instalments of 'Need For Speed'. If one player can find so many flaws in 2 weeks of playing you must ask yourself “how come the production teams never spotted them?” or did they? And if they did, why aren't they fixed before release? The lure of the Lira?, the must be out in time for Christmas sales? Or worst still, a two-fingers up to the customers and an acceptance of this is as good as it gets .. warts an all.

We have 'route-tracks' to lead us through the events but many are very poorly placed, follow them at your peril. There are checkpoints in absurd places, some of which, if you drive a 'racing-line' you will miss completely and effectively your race is over. There are 'invisible hazards on race tracks that either stop you dead, make you crash or launch you like a missile into the air. The starts to events are awful, as you come out of the cinematic, you can be face to face with a truck or even facing in the wrong direction. The 'multiplayer' [again, just like in Rivals] is totally impractical and can only be achieved with careful planning and an absurd routine. It's sad that games such as GTA V can handle all of these issues flawlessly and yet, a much more dedicated racing franchise fails miserable on all points.

A car racing game with no steering-wheel support, no manual gears and unbelievably, no car horn [which was about the only one sure way to attract the attention of your fellow lobby players]

Of course I'm nit-picking, I paid plenty of money for an over-hyped average game with AI cars that attack you on every turn, trucks with 5-watt tail lights that are set like traps for you to impact into at 370km/h and cars suddenly spawning right in front of you as you hurtle down the freeway or canyon winds. 'Collectibles' that are lame, tame and pointless [literally], sweeping blue-light flashes that constantly blind you as you approach that right-hander at great speed [where one of them trucks will be waiting] off course this is all more noticeable once you have passed the cinematic story and the constant phone calls and messages and have entered the realm of racing against your peers.

How about a little more customisation on all cars, some offer very little indeed. In the vinyl editor, give us some manufacturers decals and badges, a few different fonts and a more precise control over placement. Those garages! Why cant we drive through them and have our damaged cars made good, like we did in Most Wanted or Rivals. Why is there no 'photo-mode', we love taking photos of our custom rides.

Finally, I ask myself this question “ are the developers, producers, EA Games, Ghost Games, all happy with the work they have done on this game. Are they satisfied that they have produced the best they could but more importantly, how can they not see the issues I do?”

Every single time we hear the same proclamation ”we listen to you, the players” .. okay, listening is fine but do us a favour, take what you hear, learn from your mistakes, scour the best things from other titles, take the advice from the experts and make the next one awesome .. it may be your final opportunity.

I can definitely smell some paid reviews here, but I really hope that people simply liked the game.
On the other hand, there is very few things to like here - for some reason, important things are dumbed down and were produced with poor quality.
+ NFS about streetracing: been awhile, can feel fresh when playing. + Cars modifications. They did really good job here, and we are even

+ NFS about streetracing: been awhile, can feel fresh when playing.
+ Cars modifications. They did really good job here, and we are even having neon in upcoming patch. If you wanted to make your dream car, this is the game for you.
+ Video. Well, the story isn't good this time, but we have videos with actors - it's rare for racing game.

All these mentioned above can add a good touch to the game, but this doesnt make the game! The big problem lies in gameplay and interaction with the game/players, and it is hella bad.

    - Physics model. STOP MAKING RACING GAMES ON BUGGY **** FROSTBITE. The worst driving feel I ever had in racing games. The adjusting bar from drift to grip is a trap - grip car barely moves, and just turns much slower compared to drift, hence forcing you to drift. And you can barely control the car, you just don't feel it touching the ground. Like you are driving a big chunk of soap instead of a car. This is essential. You get no satisfaction from driving - game will suck, no matter how much other stuff you added (and there was not enough stuff added). You can get used to it, but it is just a pain in ass, you basically try to withstand the driving experience instead of enjoying it.

    - Main "bosses" of the game. I can see where the whole budget gone, seeing those people all invited and playing in videos. And it is bad. Not that they play bad, no, they are awesome. The thing that you dont get satisfaction from winning the important race. When you win let's say, Ken Block, you don't achieve **** - he says something that you are a cool guy. That's all. You play the game to show off to some random dude. Not to defeat, escape, dominate, put any word that brings up competitive spirit. You just don't give a **** This ruins story and motivation.

-Always online and multiplayer overall. You have to be always online (apparently because of twitter integration, for **** sake, what games have become these days), which is ofc bad, but well, not a big deal. The serious problems come with actual multiplayer. Bringing and starting race with your friend can be pain in ass, but hell, I will endure it. Developers stepped on the big mine, made a huge mistake for the sake of "broader appeal". Anyone can join your race in the middle of it. and some races can happen on the same area. Most of the time, some random retard just smashes into your car from nowhere, block the road and just pisses off. Different races can occur at the same area, and not phased out - you **** up each other's races. Gratz, EA.

    - Videos are weird, most of them show some random clubs, conversations, more clubs, some fastfood restaurants, etc. With some people talking **** barely related to game. They don't show actual cars (unless you are in your garage), some racing, nothing.

    - Police is disgustingly weak. No reaction, bad driving, they are even unavailable in some regions of the map. Strong feeling that they were added in a last second "just to be there", and made easy enough so your 7 yo would be not too overwhelmed. The heck, Finding police is harder than escaping them. Throughout the game I NEVER got caught. They cant catch you even with destroyed tires.

    - AI. Second big complain after driving model, AI sucks balls deep. They are weak, stupid, always crash and **** up your drifting-driving(even ally, yes, you have team races). In addition, there is the most retarded "balance" system in racing games. Cars teleport and gain light speed shamelessly. Just check your minimap - No matter how the car crashes, your enemy teleports somewhere behind you, gains SUPERB acceleration out of nowhere, just to reach you and be near you, just to catch enother "tree" again.

    - Bugs, or more like frostbite shenanigans physics point two. Car tends to glitch out when doing a jump from small ramp, etc. Car can collide with invisible bull**** when you are turning. Car collision itself made retardedly.

    - Graphics. It's not that visuals are not beautiful, oh they are. Very bad lightning job. Too much extra effects on the road and world, which are not lightning sources - same problem was carbon, and on high speeds you basically can't see **** Usually you can barely see your car to be honest - not a single light source highlight your car externally, and car's light fades off hard from random blue-purple-gray bull**** happening on the road.

Decent try. It could be a good game if developers actually had more time to fix problems. Games definitely feels rushed. Few cars, not fixing obvious problems (driving, police, physics) makes game barely enjoyable. Do not buy this game. Wait for some kind of discount and patches with content - but I really doubt that developers will release patch which will fix AI or driving mod

Only online?? And what's that with the AI some times being totally unfair? Graphs and feel is good but there are huge issues i 'm glad i sold it in the half value, call that a gain.

Need for Speed is a well-wrought game, full of interesting features, albeit without many fresh ideas. However, it is prone to deliver most of the gamers in the uncomfortable arms of boredom sooner than later, although it is bound to satisfy the hardcore fans.

The latest Need for Speed feels old in every aspect. The driving model, the AI, the story and the characters, the environments – all of it is simply poor. [13/2015, p.68]

Need for Speed’s decent feel of driving and nice tuning options don’t amount to much when coupled with harsh rubber banding, boring environments and a terrible forced story mode. [Dec 2015]
