    This game is utter poop. I finally had a chance to get it for free with ps plus. It's plain bad. So repetitive, physics are bad, tuning is stupid... I just don't know what to say. This game p**ssed me off on so many levels, starting with the damn rocks and poles on the side of the roads, cars and bad handling.
    A bad mix that just makes me want to give this game a ZERO.

    This game was ruined by EA's greed like so many others. While the game is nothing special anyway and the "biggest map of any NFS" is just like that because it's set in a desert with very few streets in such a way that you know the entire map before you are half through with the bad campaign, the slot machine reward system for the special items and the literal Las Vegas slot machine upgradeThis game was ruined by EA's greed like so many others.     Car handling sucks, you feel like driving a f***ing butter . Go and play old need for speed games, or any racing game. They are better than this game in every way.

    I like the world of this game, it's pretty. Nice cars, nice tuning. Aside from upgrade cards this game has just ugly handling for offroad racing. Some races are just annoying, who the f* though that sprint race on a drag car is cool? You exit the corner and car loosing grip on the font tires because of wheelie.

    Piece of crap. Steering model is bullsh*t, story is boring, characters are even more boring. Only the graphics are okay. The world is kinda poor by making it justa desert with a city. Desert can be nice and enteraining but not here.

    The game has a lot of bugs, like crashes and the floating car before a run. All the challenges are almost all the same. The game forces you to run and run again in order to progress (or you can use real money to buy lootboxes). The game physics is stupid. Furthermore, the difficult of the game are always the same: hard. It doesn't matter if you chose easy, normal or hard.

The whole game was built on this mechanic. • Frustrating bugs. The worst offender was the skybox/lighting flashing through the terrain blinding me every few seconds. If you don't like flashes it has them for every checkpoint and race ending too; awful. • The main menu music starts off good and just when you think there might be a drop it starts playing it's own funeral with an organ... A personal opinion, but it's bad.
    • Most of the song are trash. There's fake gamer girl music that I skip every time it plays as it's ridiculously annoying. There's also a song about killing white men, like wtf? I don't want to get political, but the game advertises BLM on the splash screen which I'm all for, but diversity and equality goes both ways or none at all.
    • Repetition to gain part cards and money. A real grind. • The car they tease you with isn't even part of an end mission or given to you. It's unlocked at the shop, which just makes the game feel rushed and unfinished. The female driver of the trio of characters doesn't even star in the end mission?    … Expand

    Absolute garbage. I've never seen such wasted potential in a game be ruined by such simple things like NOT aiming your car at a wall when you spawn. Completed storyline, did speedlists(worse than the actual game) and specifically started this account just to write this review. Maybe I'll save the next poor soul dumb enough to download this washed up racing game.

Im not the best driver but still a decent one I have been playing the crew 2 for 2 years and Im great over there and not imagine a new player playing nfs payback.     But still got trophies issues.
    Genius developers decided to make tons of challenges for player to do but forgot that there are NPC all over a road.
    The story is boring AF. Please don't buy the game,or event playing it.

    This game shouldn´t even be free to play, I got it from from PS Plus as one of the monthly free games and I have to say is terrible, has a lot of issues and some of them in my opinion are unforgivable for a racing game:

    I like arcade racing games, and that kind of games in order to be good they need to keeps things simple, the controls setup, the way you can improve your car and the way you progress, not cluttering the screen with menus and adding stupid gameplay mechanics that complicates car tuning.    … Expand

    Don't buy this game. On easy difficulty some missions are very hard that u will get struck and have to quit the game.
    Made a mistake buying this game, have to quit in the middle because of difficulty. Never buying any EA game again

No prob, reduce the control of your car for at least 80 %. You're in a good race? Hey, try it with suddenly appearing cars right in front of you, but you cannot dodge because the controls lack.     The cinematic parts and plot are even more hackneyed than loot boxex. All this funny or cool guys and girls. I bet if they change them with FIFA Journey or CoD characters you wouldn't even notice the different between them. And also the main story is the worth version of any Fast and Furious or other Hollywood racing movies.

    The gameplay is awful for me, the driving process made so, that I don't want to start another race. The environmetn monotonous and repetitive with the same turns, roads and colors. Every race or free riding looks like one endless race.

    If i was 10-13 years old boy, maybe I would play this game longer and with more pleasure, collecting all this rare cars parts and winning hundreds same races, but now it is too bad to spend my time for this.    … Expand

    The offroading portion of the game has got to be the most painful part of a racing game I've ever played down to the control mechanics and God awful track design. Everything else is great but they shove the off-road racing down your throat incessantly and it honestly ruins the game. Racing, drag, and drift are all phenomenal modes just ruin by one part of the game.

I can certainly say that Payback made me feel excited a few times... like 3 times, for about 3 seconds each. And that's where the game's pros end.

    On the Cons side...whoof, where to start. The game feels empty - the plot is one you forget    Considering the last NFS game I actively played was Carbon which came out 15 years ago, it's hard to say that I was expecting too much from Payback. I can certainly say that Payback made me feel excited a few times... like 3 times, for about 3 seconds each. And that's where the game's pros end.

    On the Cons side...whoof, where to start. The game feels empty - the plot is one you forget while playing it, filled to the brim with every cliche you could think of, the voice acting varies from barely acceptable to "holy crap they put that in a game?!", the characters are flat and wouldn't even work in a daytime CW soap opera, the graphics look ok for a 2012 game... but this one is from 2017 and the world feels like no one has ever or would ever live in it.

    Gameplay-wise, the game is a chore to play. The driving is absurdly arcadey, very few cars actually feel good, towards the end there is a horrendous difficulty spike, the drivers and pursuers are laughably aggressive - it is very unlikely that you're gonna get outraced, but holy hell are you gonna get the **** beaten out of you - Plan A for every NPC is to kill you in the most brutal way possible... there is no Plan B. The respawn option worked right about 10 times in my 10 hrs with the game - it usually either respawns you when there is no need for it or let's you just sit there after colliding face-first with a wall.

    The hit detection is questionable at best, the world is restrictive as hell and feels badly built - half the time I felt like I'm taking the longest route to my objective, only to find out it's the only way. Overall the missions are painfully repetitive and by the end of your second hour of playing you've already seen all the game can offer you.

    If I had to compare the last NFS game I played to this, I'd have to say that NFS is dead 70ft underground, never to be playable again, but I won't do that - I'll judge Payback on the base of what it's supposed to be - a good racing game. Well, considering it fails in essentially every aspect possible, I'd say a 3/10 is even a bit generous.    … Expand

    Unbalanced, uncomfortable, some races are to easy, some of them are super hard. I have better cars parameters then required and still stuck on one race. Also check points are an evil joke. Would never buy this game.

    I've played a lot of racing games and I think this one has made me the most frustrated. The brakes on the cars just have you sliding but if you handbrake turn the car will stop on a dime. Then driving and turning a small amount has the ass "float out" and then it wants to keep turning feeling like I need to overcorrect constanly? I know the game isn't designed to be realistic but it justI've played a lot of racing games and I think this one has made me the most frustrated.     Sans parler des micros transaction le jeu n'apporte rien de plaisant pour un jeu de course de notre génération, dirt, forza ou encore grand turismo apporte des conduites plus réaliste avec plus de défi d'année en année mais Ea se contente de seduire un publique jeune ou débutant avec son gameplay digne d'un asphalt (jeu mobile ).

    So its fun for the first hour, but the AI rubberbanding sucks. I didn't beat the game because I got so frustrated with the second to last offroad race I shut it down and haven't turned it back on. I got it on a PS4 sale.... So worth the 5 USD.

    I grew up with NFS porche, hot pursuit and everything that followed. I still find this NFS the most enjoyable NFS i've played since Carbon ( which i didn't like that much). I don't mind the cards and the lottery stuff. I have everything i need. A lot of elements from multiple racing games, packed in a really well done Need for Speed. Like i said, i never had fun with a NFS title in a longI grew up with NFS porche, hot pursuit and everything that followed. I still find this NFS the most enjoyable NFS i've played since Carbon ( which i didn't like that much). I don't mind the cards and the lottery stuff. I have everything i need.     They have side missions too. Though I wouldn't call them that since you have to play them in order to actually get to play the main mission. So you have this amazing animation mission with full adrenaline and then you have like 100x of those missions where the goal is mostly the same and the animation looks like as if EA suddenly went for a low budget racing game from an Indie developer.

    This probably shouldn't be a surprise for anyone. Tuning your car looks like a casino. You have those colorful cards that drop randomly. You will unfortunately have to collect those, otherwise your car will be inferior towards other racing cars.    … Expand

If we want offroad we have other choices like wrc, flatout etc ! The story is very poorly made, races also ! If you enter into a drag tournament or whatever then you expect to play drag races, not forced to play sprint races with a car optimized for drag races... PATHETIC.     Just like Need for Speed Heat I hate the driving in this game. The steering is slow instead of being quick and responsive.. The breaks are way overpowered.. I only played for about five minutes and deleted it. Complete trash in my opinion... I also heard it has microtransactions... I never got far enough to find out. But that is bs... Just remaster Most Wanted from PS2...

The people online who spent their money on a product have to try to figure out how they game saves itself so they don't lose all their time spent to redo everything. Twice this game hasn't saved. When my car is 40 lvls ahead of the mission, i should NOT be unable to catch the guy in the lead even when driving perfectly, obvious ploy to force me to grind MORE cards.

    To begin with..you are releasing a game..and not every game...you release Need For Speed.. for a long time you used to co-operate with EA which the past years "SHE" used to get more money from microtransactions. Now at the time being..EA not only ruined this game but it's going to ruin the games in the future just and only because you have to obey her rules since you made a contract. Although NFS games used to be very good when you were co-operating with EA the past years you manage to ruin everything when you got 1 team working for 2 games..You actually in the dev team allowed to yourselfs to get stressed out by some people who wanted to make more money..and as a resul..the team destroyed..and as the team destroyed you destroyed also the hapiness of your fans. We have to pay to enjoy most games..i understand that...but when a game is already at a really bad costing price don't say "HEY WE ARE GONNA RELEASE DLC's WHICH THEY ARE GOING TO BE 15$ each..i am not talking about the NFS games..but this is going to happen at the NFS [2019] (if it gets released at this part of time) by EA. You managed to destroy your name that you were building all these years both EA and NFS TM.     But as soon as you start racing, all **** get loose.
    First of, this is a game that adjust difficulty by making your driving worst, not the AI better. A drifty car will soon be a gripping paragon if its making a drift event. You´ll feel cheated everytime.
    AI cars going 350km/h after crashing? Check. Lighter cars kicking your Barracuda out to the curb just because you happen to be in the road? Check. AI cars that speed while you are boosting nitro? Check.
    The mechanic is simple. The "House" always wins. They´ll say it´s a feature, kinda of a easter egg since the game revolves around a fictional Las Vegas and the "House" crime syndicate. But the cold hard truth is: AI cheats a lot.
    If your car is under the specifications, Bu-bye. You need cards. I´m not giving attention to cards, because everyone else already told the truth about cards. It´s deez loot-boxes.
    Just bear in mind that to win cards you need to win races. But the races have a dynamic difficulty. That means that if you´re winning, it cheats more and more. And if you´re losing, it gives you a freebie. In reality grinding for cards is three times longer (two to lose, one to win).
    Unlike the previous installments, racing events are not difficulty based anymore. It means that everyroad after its completion becomes a hard "challenging" race where the other races are always one tier above you. TBH there is so much cheating that you´ll break your personal records while getting 3rds and 4ths places.
    The story is way worst than NFS2015. It´s Fast and Furious lazy cousin. The missions are kinda cringy (like racing a truck that is going almost 300km/h). The characters are just as sufferable (it haves mexican races in the barrio, empowered women mad-max in off-road races and cyber-neon-hacker drifters fighting the capitalism in brand new supercars).
    It just don´t have as many races as the previous NFS.
    The police is dumb as it can. Basically it spawns like rabid bees out of a smashed beehive, it´s useless trying to lose them, they´s just pop out to annoy you until you reach 200m of you objective. Than cops go home like the wolf and the dog in that old cartoon.
    After all this is a game that could be better. But all is rigged to make grinding more exaustive, and paid loot boxes more atractive.
    The game is really heavy scripted, almost to the point its a QTE. Because let´s face it: the game makes supercars speed like zephyrs just to look you´re always late. But if you don´t break your controller it will decrease its speed and let you pass in the last minute. EVERY. DAMN. RACE.
    If you got the best first lap of your life? DOESN´T MATTER.
    After all you have a major setback from the previous games. And you can see it is just to sell loot boxes. This is not a fun game at all.    … Expand

Most racing games have bad music (Ridge racer is beast for racing music). But at least I was able to use my flashdrive with my music playing. the game has a level card slot machine system. Uninspiring AND A SLAP ON THE FACE FOR PROFESSIONAL REVIEWERS TO GIVE THIS GAME A HIGH SCORE. You can buy garages but i feel that pointless too since it doesnt matter how many you own. Map is big with mostly desert so the racing is pretty boring. This is what happens when EA listens to people who pretend to like racing games. This game feels like it was made for someone who claims they like racing but have never played a racing game. The game is a easy grind. You can make a million quick. Even before the story ends. That is how easy the game is. Online multiplayer, its a mess. We have posers using exotic cheating cars in races 98% of the time. The game online isnt balanced. Thats what EA gets for trying to have players race with a tuner and a exotic car that is OP. No one took this game serious at release. If anything this may be the worst nfs game to date. If you played need for speed the run then you played payback. Its essentially the same crap you get. There is no way Need for speed 2015 is worse than this. I still play it and the online community seemed to have moved back. Most people do not understand the concept of racing games. Grid had a good concept, Gran Turismo, Driveclub (the best ps4 racing game out there next to wipeout and burnout paradise remastered) i hope EA makes a new Shift game insted. That side of the franchise was amazing and everyone ignored it because it wasnt a underground street racing game. I called it quits with EA after this and ended up selling this game.     The mechanics (especially in offroad mode) were just terrible. The cop chases were just annoying as you raced around town going from checkpoint to checkpoint getting RAMMED by cop cars that seemingly had upwards of 3000 horsepower. And that's not even the worse part about the game. Because let's face it, the story and dialogue are.

    This game has made me question what the people at EA games are doing. Like seriously, what are you guys doing? Do you guys even test the products you release? Are bad ideas just pooled together during board meetings?

    The unconscionable money-grabbing aspect has been addressed by several reviewers so I'll just mention a couple of other things that Ghost Games and other developers need to learn:

    1. Don't try to appeal to the youth market by imitating their language and mannerisms – it just looks contrived. If you make a game like a teen-movie and players don't like your movie, they're not going to    The unconscionable money-grabbing aspect has been addressed by several reviewers so I'll just mention a couple of other things that Ghost Games and other developers need to learn:

    1. Don't try to appeal to the youth market by imitating their language and mannerisms – it just looks contrived. If you make a game like a teen-movie and players don't like your movie, they're not going to enjoy your game no matter how it plays. Make games for mature adults and you will capture the youth market.

    2. Don't substitute unnecessary cut scenes for actions that players could perform themselves.

    NFS Payback is a perfect example of how not to make a game – racing or otherwise. As far as racing goes, another flaw in this entry is the obtrusive arches and directional arrows which completely break the immersion in an otherwise beautifully rendered open world.     As all time NFS enthusiast 8/10 as a gamer enthusiast 0/10. And the thought that people actually pay for this sh*t absolutely sickening. Instead of buying this just stuff a finger down your throat, puke all over yourself and run, you will be better off.

    If you stick with it you'll find a decent racer here but getting past the inane narrative, broken progression systems and longing for racers past takes some doing.
