The worst game I've played on PS4 period.

This game instead of being called "Hot Pursuit Remastered" should be called "Hot Pursuit for PS4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch" because there is nothing remastered about it, rather they took away more things, if you have a PC I do not recommend this game at all , play the one from 2010, you will save a lot of space on your disk...

'Need For Speed Hot Garbage Sh**master' That's how to perfectly describe this game.

Car handling is very poor and unresponsive, every input has 0.5-1 second delay and it rely on luck rather that skill. The game appears to have been created by someone who knows nothing about cars and has never driven one. Rubber band A.I. is probably the most ridiculous I've ever seen in any racing game.

Even though the "free-drive mode" is pretty boring with not much to do other than drive around on your own, there is tons of great Career missions with Hollywood-action-like races and huge crash scenes. Using EMP or Spike traps, for instance, to sabotage for your competitors or the police adds to the "James Bondish" action. The physics of the car crashes are particularly impressive compared to modern racing games or even racing simulators such as WRC. While the game starts slow and may feel a bit repetitive at first, I soon find myself going faster and faster with new cars in more and more challenging mission. And last but not least – the music is great too with nice songs to accompany you through the various landscapes. Overall, one of my favorite racing games as of 2022. Expand

This review is for the PC version downloaded from the EA app from the perspective of someone who never played the game.
No wheel detected. No way to assign controls to manually force my Logitech G923 to work. Uninstalled. How does a racing game exist, simulation or not, and have no support for wheels and pedals? It isn't 1998 anymore.

I prefer Playstation due to their focus on narrative games. For scoring, I’ll be using the Gameinformer review scale and of course influenced by my personal opinions.

    (7) Average. The game’s feature may work, but are nothing that even causal players haven’t seen before.

I've never tried the original Hot Pursuit so this was a completely new experience to me. The first thing I noticed was the graphics, expected the graphics to be better. Gameplay was fun but the car physics needs some work. I really liked NFS Rivals which pretty much did the same concept but is a newer version of the game. Rivals has better graphics, car physics, and same gameplay. I recommend playing Rivals instead of this remaster that is still out dated and failed to modernize the originally Hot Pursuit. I didn't play the original but it feels like they just ported it to the new consoles without updating the game to take advantage of the newer hardware. Normally I would redact a point for bad business practice for something like that but since I never actually played the original, so I can't do that in good faith. I can still have fun with this game and so can you if you got nothing else to play.

My only regret is that there isn't enough traffic in free play, it's already a massive amount of fun to just drive around and follow other cars. Racing performs well, Online is too, amazing. Everything about this game charms me and I'd love to see another port of a NFS game as well. Expand

This review is not only a comparison between the original and remastered version of the game, but also a review of the game itself as a alone published game on which my final user score will be based on.

After 10 years Criterion launches a remastered version of one of the best Criterion games made so far. This title is practically a sequel of the well-known NFS Hot Pursuit 2 released back in 2002, even though it differs in some parts.
The game itself is a racing arcade, as all Need for Speed games are, you play both as a racer and a cop in already designated events, this is where the first difference from the 2002 title comes in. In NFS HP2 you had the chance to decide which car to use, which track to drive onto (and you still got the chance to get bounty points), on the top of that, you also had offline splitscreen mode available if you wanted to play with someone from your family or friends. None of this appears here, you have events on which you have to use a specific car or car class in a specific part of the map.
What is more, you have the Free Roam mode in which the only thing you can do is just drive, no racers or cops appear within the map, so practically a useless mode.
Ok, now after saying what wrong with the game, what are the good things? Well, of course the gameplay, you are gonna have such a great time playing this game, there are many race modes, like Hot Pursuit (of course), Interceptor, Race, Time Trial,... and the best of them are playable in online mode with other people who are gonna give you a hard time beating them, but you are probably gonna enjoy it more than playing singleplayer mode.
With the DLCs comes new cars and singleplayer events and a completely new online mode called Most Wanted in which there is a player who has the most bounty points (he's the most wanted), racer's objective is to protect him from being caught by the cops and the cops have to bust him before he escapes.

Now the difference between the original and the remastered version is that all DLCs are already in the game, given for free. Also 4K support but 30fps, and 2K 60 fps, graphics improved, but not drastically, which is a big flaw for all pc players as mods can render the game even better than remastered without buying the new version.
So for whom is the Remastered version? Well, for new players who haven't experienced the game is a must buy, but for others, well it depends on if you want to spend many hours on online mode, than probably yes as there is crossplay enabled and you can play the game with friends on different platforms. For people who already played the game (especially for pc players) and played it only for the singleplayer experience, than don't buy it, it isn't worth your money.

All in all a great game, one of the best from the Need for Speed franchise, the game itself is a must buy for all racing arcade fans, but when it comes to the Remastered version, than it isn't for everyone, for new players yes, but for others it depends.

I think this game is for people who like arcade racing and doesn't care for any physics. The game is good but there isn't anything done for the remaster(no updated graphics no new game modes) except for new liveries not much customizable.

This game is a joke and terrible. The AI is overly aggressive and literally cheats. The RNG of the placement of traffic and road blocks is completely terrible, as the game puts them in the perfect place to ensure you will wreck. They should remove this game from all platforms and count it as a complete failure.

Since almost each of the last NfS titles greatly fails in selling, It feels like this is now finally the end of a racing game era, because they take their most popular title of this series and sell it a second time just as it is.

Need for Speed Hot Pursuit is a gem from 2010 that we didn’t really need again. It definitely wasn’t in my top 5 NFS games to come back as a remaster, but still one to welcome with its new additions. This is a game for those who never experienced it in its initial state in 2010 or for those who want some variation in the arcade racing genre in the meantime until the 2021 iteration is released.

EA knows not to mess with the classic formula, so the largely visual upgrades work, creating a satisfying game. Truth is, racing games haven’t changed that much in the last decade; it’s about speed, and letting you feel that speed. Sure, you’re missing the “rewind” feature of current racing games, and it might have been nice to get that added in here.
