    No fun, they first make impossible to score with shooters and all driving archétype so there is no fun attacking and now they patched the shooters and even at the easiest difficulty every IA makes the shot

    what a load of tosh, gameplay is horrific and laggy even with fast Internet, alot of people are complaining about gameplay being delayed, lots of people are also getting error codes for different game modes so they can't play even after doing some troubleshooting steps, game needs to be better, shooting is terrible and hardly anyone can get any greens in neighbourhood, sort it out 2k!

    I actually open a Metacritic account just so I could leave a feedback for this game; that's how mad I am with NBA 2K21. The shooting system is abysmal and it's just unplayable. I've played more than 20 games and didn't won any of them; I'm not angry because I can't win though, it's because I've got 8% shooting percentage after the games ! The game is way too tough for casual players andI actually open a Metacritic account just so I could leave a feedback for this game; that's how mad I am with NBA 2K21. The shooting system is abysmal and it's just unplayable.     Everytime I buy a sports game, it seems like its last years version and has weird money spending schemes attached to it. Do yourself a favor and avoid this year. maybe every year to be honest.

Unfortunately seems to suffer from this pre-nextgen syndrome where annual releases aren’t given a proper update. Everything is fine.     One issue I do have, however, is the inconsistency with shooting. It was pretty bad in 2k20 but has becomes even worse in this iteration. When you make shots vs when you don’t makes absolutely no sense. You miss sitters inside the rim when you’re timing is perfect and you’re barely covered, but make a 3 pointer on the fly when your timing is off and you’re far more covered. Makes the experience quite frustrating overall.    … Expand

    This greedy company keeps shelling out terrible games. The highest 3pt you can get in my career is 81!? What the hell is this, best you can do is grow to an average player. It died with microtransactions. 2k needs to be boycotted!

    Okay, where to begin. First of all I am a massive fanboy of 2k and have been buying since the goat 2k11. I have noticed the substantial dip in quality and lack of updates from the 2k franchise for some time now. I remember the days when 2k11 2k12 and 2k13 were such fantastic values in terms of gameplay and overall content compared to other sports games at the time. Now it seems that inOkay, where to begin. First of all I am a massive fanboy of 2k and have been buying since the goat 2k11. I have noticed the substantial dip in quality and lack of updates from the 2k franchise for some time now. I remember the days when 2k11 2k12 and 2k13 were such fantastic values in terms of gameplay and overall content compared to other sports games at the time. Now it seems that in order to play a AAA sports game you have to deal with the now-greedy companies of EA and 2k. This is simply something one must come to terms with when buying each year's new edition.
    I personally have not purchased a 2k since 2k17, and I thought that 2017 did a phenomenal job with the dribble mechanics and the shot meter. I did get to play 2k20 for awhile with gamepass and had an enjoyable time on MyTeam. Yet would not have considered paying over 20$ for that game. I completely faded 2k18 and 2k19 as they just looked not fun to play when compared to 2k17 gameplay.

    This year, I didn't know what to expect but I was getting absurdly impatient and wanting to jump in to a new sports game. and after witnessing the **** show that EA released with Madden 21 it became apparent that it was 2k or bust. I decided to preorder the game in hopes of developing a dope MyTeam over the next few months. My expectations were tempered but I did at least want to enjoy the gameplay and be able to grind towards my favorite players.

    I have had the game for 3 days now, and I can say that I am mostly pleased with the entire package of the game. There still is quite a lot of content and ways to play the game. Anyone here is likely not new 2k so you know exactly what to expect in terms of gamemodes.

    Let's talk about what is causing such a division in reviews from this community. THE SHOOTING.
    Yes it is definitely true that the dribbling and shooting mechanics have been tampered with. I feel like in the long run these will feel normal and potentially even preferred. I know that I had a few rage moments during my first few hours of play, seeing as the dribble moves and shooting combos take time to master and do not feel intuitive. The shooting is much much much less forgiving and it will take practicing your favorite players releases and figuring out their hot spots as you will have to run picture perfect plays to get them open looks from outside or set enough picks to blow by the defender for a layup. Layups and shooting in the paint is overpowered while outside shooting takes immense skill and patience. Get it?

    Yes the skill gap has gotten a substantialy steeper and yes the CPU players play like Monstars from Space Jam, but I truly believe that overtime a lot of these issues will get smoothed out and players will adjust to the new mechanics and whatever gamestyle that 2k seems to want to reward. I am not sure why 2k would want to punish the casual gamer, but this game is built for serious hoopers and experienced 2kers. Which honestly is fine with me, I love technical and skill driven games.

    All I know is that I can take the good with the bad seeing as its so early in the release, and I can say that I have had a ton of fun with the new MyCareer story and always love MyTeam. I actually enjoy the challenge of shooting and it really allows people with legit basketball IQ to thrive. When you do dominate it feels earned and its something to savor when you go on a shooting streak. This may not be popular opinion but I am fine with struggling upfront to learn new mechanics if it makes the gameplay more balanced and enjoyable in the long run.    … Expand

Myteam has the new game mode which is pretty cool and feels nice and has a new good look and feel. Sadly myleague is pretty much the same but at this point that's expected.     This game is an upgrade from NBA 2K20, the gameplay has been upgraded and they have finally found a way to make the skill gap bigger with at what rate do the shots go in and so you need to have excellent release if you want to make jump shots consistently.     What disappointed me the most is that there is no Create a Legend Mode and the lack of improvements for MyLeague and MyGM. I also am not happy that you can't even transfer MyCareer. But overall, NBA2K21 is a solid game that will bring in fun for Basketball Fans.

    These "games" are nothing more than glorified casinos. They constantly try to squeeze more and more money out of you. Oh and the devs are so lazy that there are some glitches that have been present in the games for years that they haven't bothered fixing yet. Pathetic.

    The most realist basketball game ever. I’ve been playing 2K series since 2K06 which makes 15 years and I agree that this game ain’t easy. If you are struggling with new pro stick aiming function on shooting, go on a setup and do not use this function.

    My build is a 6'8 PAINT beast [red/blue] with max badges and 90 strength but I can't reliably hit post moves, dunk, or even score in the PAINT over non defensive builds, while playmaking shot-creators can make 100% of their fading shots, can spam behind the back dribbles behind one screen for the entire shot clock and green light their shots after the defender gets brick wall'ed 20 times(broken mechanic that has been in the game since NBA 2k19), they can score however they like in transition since chase downs are broken. you gave shooting a hot fix instantly when the babies with no badges couldn't shoot so how about you give the paint back to the builds that require it especially when they are maxed out.

    PAINT CAMPING IN THE PARK IS CANCER (only allow the defense to be in the paint for 3 seconds like other game modes)
    BRICK WALL SHOULD ACTIVATE 1-3 TIMES PER SCREEN (depending on badge upgrade)
    HEART CRUSHER IS BROKEN (1 steal results in the team being cold??)

    The moment you guys have competition in the basketball gaming market then i feel these issues will be resolved but this is the last 2k I will personally buy and i'm making my friends and viewers pick up and try NBA live for next gen because any other BS is better that the toxic BS you guys put out year after year    … Expand

    I want to talk about the development team for this generations version of the game, (PS4 & X box one). The developer only had half a team working on that while for next gen they had Two or Three teams working on it.

    Game play: The overall game play remains the same as it did in NBA 2K20, it feels more like a patch than a new game with some minor differences. First thing that is new is the shot meter which I feel like is a downgrade compared to 2K19 and 2K20 shot meter; it feel more like an arcade version which is rather disappointing you do have the option of turning it off though. Not only is the shot meter disappointing but the shooting is not as good as it was in 2K19 and 2K20 what I mean by that is it does not feel as good as it did in previous instalments, the only thing 2K added was new shot animations and more pie charts for your my player build. The game play itself is solid though but unfortunately it’s the only thing that is solid on this generations version.

    Controls: The controls are the same with a few minor tweaks such as the aiming stick for the shooting, which is really annoying because we did not need that in the first place it can mess up the ball handling. I myself went in to the controls and made them classic by taking the aiming stick off and using the right stick for the handling. The classic controls are what work if something is not broken 2K please do not fix it.

    Modes: There are many modes in this years installation of the NBA2K franchise, my favourite to this day is still my career. In this years my career you start off in high school and make you way through college and in to the NBA which is something I have wanted for a long time in a career mode.

    My Team: This year really is no different when it comes to this mode accept you can transfer your team and the virtual currency over to the next generation.

    The Neighbourhood: The neighbourhood got a huge cosmetic overhaul but that is all it got, it still takes about 10 minutes to get an actual game going, mostly people just stand around and it is incredibly frustrating, but that is OK I still enjoy it when I do get a game.

    NBA 2k21 just feels like a patch from NBA 2K20 in some areas it is good some areas is bad, but it is still fun.

The game had so many problems with shooting and it's just not any fun playing a full game (around 30-40 minutes) where your shooting FG percentage is around 10-15%. Layups are easily missed, and playing defense against the CPU is impossible.

    Then there is the PAY WALL. Basically to get better players, you have to purchase VC in order to purchase packs. Once purchasing packs, you ONLY have 2% odds on getting really good player cards. Bottom line, you have to pay and buy a lot of packs in order to get a good team. In order to compete against the computer, you have to have a good team other wise you will continue to lose and become frustrated. I spent about 1,000 hours on 2K20 and it was such a great experience because the time involved was worth it as the rewards given for playing the game slowly made your team better. However for 2k21, the rewards are lackluster and downright almost impossible to achieve unless as stated before you have a good team to compete.

    In summary I stopped playing 2K21 after 2 weeks because it was extremely frustrating and difficult to play against the CPU. This sucks because I spent $100 on the Mamba Edition and spent $100 on VC which really didn't make my team any better due to the 2% odds.

    I wanted to write why "0", but it is just too depressing. Nothing in this game is done right. 2k21 is like a patch that broke the game to the point it is unplayable without a hope it will be fixed later. I hope ps5 version will be better, but who am I kidding - it's 2k....

    I have honestly never played a terrible game like this in my life. Very poor design, definitely not beginner friendly at all. In MyCareer mode, your character would constantly miss 80% of his shots, while the other team would constantly score a lot.     Wow! Just a complete and utter kick in the nuts. If you don't want to shell out about $100 after you already payed at least $60 for this game don't buy it, you can't even play, pretty much a standing simulator! 2k sucks!!!

I remember this thing on ps3 and yes it's even more worse. 3,190php (65usd) more expensive than AAA game more expesive than a fresh release avengers. The shot clock indicator on the floor and the shot meter is the only new thing the rest is all the same thing. Better wait for ps5. The copy paste era is began last year on current gen.     I hope that the employees who actually had to work on this game are ashamed to be a part of such a bad final product. The shooting mechanics seem to have been done by blind people, the All-Star game is just not fun, period. Dunk contests are supposed to be a fun event, not some minigame that you try and restart 5 times in a row and then just give up.     This game is terrible. Myplayer has a 73 mid range and 70 3 pointer yet he couldn’t throw a rock in the ocean. MyCareer shooting is fine but when I get into competitive modes it may be easier to do quantum physics then make a jumpshot. This game has been the worst experience I’ve ever had playing a video game.

The NBA draft hasn't even happened yet. So I thought they would delay the release until the season was over? Wrong!!! You can do what everyone else does or what the game wants to do. Which is spend money on VC in order to get better. What 2k did was make small minor adjustments. Instead of creating new modes or having new commentary for play by play. They decided to "adjust" the shooting in the game. Like shooting was a problem in the first place. I've seen other people review for this game. The people who review this game either never played an NBA 2K game before or have little interest in playing sports games at all. Sites like Forbes or IGN will give this game a 7 or 8. I would say hold off on buying this game until 2122 comes out. The only other thing that I can say is that the next gen of this game better be worth it.… Expand

Even if shot is near perfect release it’s a guaranteed brick...Defense is constantly in your face from the start of the game to the end..The cpu backpedaling is faster than my driving down the lane with the ball...nothing new compared to 2k20 and if anything, they took out more stuff..MyCareer is about 30 minutes of useless cutscenes and once in the NBAThe shooting in this game is broken.     I am an offline player and generally have only a couple hours to play the game daily. I play the myteam mode and the CPU opponent just destroys you in every game whether it's triple threat or domination or single player challenges. When a Cover Athlete tells a company their game is trash, there must be somethign very wrong with this game. DONT BUY IT, save your money and take your girl, family or friends out for a dinner / movie night instead.

    Not only did they lie about nerfing slashers being able to dribble for the entire shot clock andthen greening it, they changed the shot meter which is meh. But the thing that crosses the line is the slashers being better shooters than the archetype of sharpshooter.

Shoot with button is not effective anymore if u want to score with button u only need to green and green window is more little than last year. Shoot stick is op for me i think if u have a trick for shoot u can shoot 9/10 3point.Have u seen a problem???.     The little things can't even get updated like your player in the story is called "Junior" yet you'll still hear the crowd or players on the court call you "Che" (nickname for your player from 2K20) and players will text you calling you "Che" as well.
    Do not give 2K any more money, this game is absolute trash and deserves to be left to rot.

So I did buy the basic one, Damian Lillard cover, but I bought USD100 worth of VC. I started playing MyCareer playground during the 2xREP for the beach party and my account went to Rookie 1 twice. II just started playing 2k20 early this year, then I figured I should buy 2k21 while it's new so I can get a better rating on MyPlayer REP while playing at the neighborhood section of the game. So I did buy the basic one, Damian Lillard cover, but I bought USD100 worth of VC. I started playing MyCareer playground during the 2xREP for the beach party and my account went to Rookie 1 twice. I gained some REP points then after REP1 i upgraded to REP1 again. I found online that I was not the only person that this happened to, but a few others as well. I tried contacting their support team but crickets for the past two days, I guess they're busy figuring out how to respond to the issues that everyone is having here. Aside from that, the game got really harder to play in my opinion (MyCareer NBA and Playground), it seems like 2K favors people that upgrade right away (during first week or release?) with VCs. When you play in the playground, the players that have upgrades already were so dominant and it would really try to make you want to buy VC out of frustration. I ended up buying VC for USD100 and my player got better in the playground. It still sucks that I had to do two same REP levels. I threw away $160 and I know that's nothing to most people that play 2K but I really think it's not worth it.… Expand

The shot meter is terrible and resets when you take lay ups and dunks and is permanent unless you go meter-less, the animations and graphics are worse than 2k14 still, MyLeague is still terrible with simulation times, MyTeam is a cash grab and is more casino than game, and MyCareer is all bad servers and not realistic and not fun, it is absolutely one of the worst experiences of my life. You barely get any VC to start out and the grind is longer than climbing Everest with no hands. If this game was free I’d still ask for a refund, this game is like the Knicks but a basketball sim. I’d rather spend my money on supporting ISIS rather than these developers at this point. How could you have three years to make a game and still have no improvements, and I say three cause this is the exact same thing as 2k19 but updates rosters and downgrades in quality. The MyLeague draft classes, settings, and everything is broken and probably won’t be fixed, MyTeam feels the same but you have to start over, and MyCareer is the same as MyTeam. How can it get this bad? I had hope that this game might have been better than 2k20 but it got worse. It’s worse because it’s the same and the most fun I’ve gotten from this game is venting in this review right now. God awful and next gen will probably find a way to be worse, screw 2k who gave them the rights to the NBA, EA Live actually might be better this time around just because 2k has gone downhill so steeply it’s actually unreal. Their best game is probably PGA Tour right now because no one actually cares about that product so they should be lucky to have a game. From the broke shot meter , to the overpowered defense to the constant pushing of worthless "gear" to the lack of interviews in my season to the broke park ,with no hope of making a shot .. really sad to see it come to this.

    - Ok the level designers have managed to create a new park.
    But in other games you would probably find this as a new map in a patch.

    The horrible badge grinding and the huge invitation to buy vc is still existing. Even more than before. What was wrong on the 2k19 badge system where you had to compete a number of "challenges" like doing 3pts, screens, dribbles or whatever to get a badge for that? It was great and rewarding.
    The fact that you see sponsors everywhere you are looking at, is not enough, to milk that game.
    Why do I always have to wait 5 seconds in each timeout, before beeing able to skip? Do I really have to consume the nice sponsor placements all over the arena?

    Try not to milk your community anymore. Sponsor deals should be enough for a sports simulation.

    It loses a point because of its Virtual Currency (VC) obsession, a recurringissue in 2K games. It’s supposed to ensure that all your actions in every mode – career, MyTeam, even watching 2KTV – secure rewards, but they’re often someagre that the entire game comes across as a grind, aimed at funnelling you towards the PS Store to part with real cash.Please don’t do that. The only way games like this and FIFA will change in the next gen is if their players make a sustainedeffort not to exchange any of their hard-earned dosh for digital trading cards. Otherwise this is solid, but on that front 2K (and EA, and the rest) must do better. [Issue#181, p.94]

    NBA 2K21 makes welcome improvements to its MyCareer and MyTeam modes, but the frustratingly inconsistent new shooting system and lack of changes elsewhere make it feel like it’s lost its step over other sports games.

    On the court, this is a brilliant basketball game that doesn’t change much. Why would it when it’s not really necessary? The microtransactions, however, are more annoying than Houston’s playstyle.
