Although it's not my usual cup of tea, I enjoyed Monster Hunter Tri on the Wii but despite the upgraded visuals, I found this instalment uninvolving and repetitive. Explore, gather loot, kill a boss monster, rinse and repeat. And repeat. And repeat.
Without a coherent narrative it just feels like an endless level grind.

This game is just not for me.
I don't like how hard you need to grind for the most smallest of upgrades. Just makes the game progress way too slow for me, at which point it's no longer fun for me to continue playing.

Riveting moment-to-moment gameplay, from quiet stalking to action-packed hunting, is ultimately held back by a ton of grinding. I had fun for a while but ultimately burnt out on progressing.

This was my first Monster Hunter Game, and I really enjoyed it. It is a good game to play with your friends, is entertaiting to grow together and capture all the monsters that are spread on the world. There are a few that are amazing, have a good movements and allow you to enjoy while killing them.

A nice game to play with your friends.

It's a great game to begin with but its weaker than MHGU for me.

Well from graphical stand point, it's no doubt to be that good and it's quite dense and big as well for only 1 map. Yes, the map is dense but that makes exploring the world quite confusing, so many vegetations and other thing that obstruct how you view the world (not the map). Well, you'll memorize it by the end of it

Yes, the map is dense but that makes exploring the world quite confusing, so many vegetations and other thing that obstruct how you view the world (not the map). Well, you'll memorize it by the end of it but it's easier to explore around in GU dan in World. And, any herbs, honey, etc. is hardly noticeable because they blend in with the world which is a great one but I hardly collect enough because I keep missing it. Yes, you got the help from scoutfly to locate each one of them but there comes another problem which is lighting of the game is not consistent which mostly makes me lost track of the scoutfly that locate certain object.

Speaking of map, the icon of the map seems washed out. I don't know if I can mess around about it in the setting but so far, I didn't find any solution for this. That icon really helpful thou to locate certain object to collect for your Quest.

The palico also rarely help you when you get stunned or electrified but they did heal you a lot in battle. Well, I still do prefer to get smacked by my palico when I'm stunned or electrified.

Last, it's my preferences but MHW seems to weakened most of their monsters. Like I met Rathalos on GU when I unlock the 5 stars village Quest and I got stun a lot as well as burned. In MHW, I encounter him when I'm on a mission to hunt down Pukei-Pukei (the 3rd Quest I believe). I kinda of hesitant but decided to engage in combat. Turns out, I'm winning without even healing at all. Cutting tail also way easier in MHW than GU. To be honest, this affects the satisfaction kind of feel that I hardly get from World.

Overall I do enjoy the game but GU still a better game in my opinion which makes me keep coming back to GU more than World.

The game seems dog **** in my early impressions of it, but the main problem here is that it cannot be paused, even when playing solo. I envy people who have such a lack of responsibility that they can commit to playing games without interruption that regularly, but sadly I have a life and need to be able to pause games from time to time.

Monster Hunter: World is my first Monster Hunter game in a sense and it was an interesting experience, even though I didn't finish the story; it wasn't engaging at all and it's not an important part of the game anyway.
The gameplay is fun though; there's a wide variety of different weapons, armor, items and playstyles to keep the gameplay loop - Hunt a monster -> Gather materials -> Craft new gear -> Repeat - stay exhilarating and deep.
It can get a bit repetitive at times but it's very fun when you're hunting unique monsters; the highlight of Monster Hunter: World.
The monsters are amazing! From their spectacular designs to the suspenseful confrontations, it's worth playing this game just for the monsters alone.
The graphics are beautiful and the environments are absolutely stunning! Monster Hunter: World has some of the best looking environments I've seen in a videogame.
Also, there's a lot of content in this game despite the grinding.
Unfortunately for the gameplay though, the combat system and the controls are quite clunky.

    Pros:
+ Exciting and deep gameplay loop
    + Gorgeous environments and visuals
    + A lot of content
    + Monsters

    Cons:
    - Dated combat system & controls
    - Hunting monsters can get a bit repetitive in some instances

On one hand, Monster Hunter: World is a very enjoyable videogame experience; on the other hand, it feels like a chore to play.
Overall, I'd say Monster Hunter: World is a good game, especially for fans of the series, however, it won't be everyone's cup of tea.

    Do I recommend it?:
For fans, Monster Hunter: World is a must-play.
For newcomers, it's not easy to get into the game but it's worth a try.

first of all i think capcom should make an after-story DLC to tell what is going to happen after when the main character defeats the final boss, this way i think story line would end perfectly. and another thing, In my opinion the production team should make the game a little bit more difficult, otherwise players who played over 100 hours are not feeling the game as challenging as they felt at the beginning

The gameplay is great, many people call it clunky not realising that it's part of it, it's a way of punishing the player for making bad decisions and not having enough control of their skills and character movement. People don't complain about this with Dark Souls and such, why should they about Monster Hunter?

The gameplay is satisfying, especially with friends, you have an enormous amount of monsters to fight, quests to do, and trophies to acquire. There's base decoration and endemic life collection which you can display, which was one of the must fun surprises I had with this game, some of the music can be quite nice, and while the story is passable, improving your gear and making different builds for monsters is super fun.

I was going to say that I hoped Capcom would maybe make World a "home console and PC" spin-off and continue the main series on Nintendo portable consoles, but after seeing MH Rise... ehh please bring back World and stick to it, thank you.

While travelling to the “New World”, the Fifth Fleet is attacked by a huge Elder Dragon. After being rescued, and arriving at the base camp, the player fulfils their role as a Hunter defeating a variety of creatures whilst trying to find out more about the beast that attacked their fleet.

Despite this being the fifth mainline instalment in the Monster Hunter series, it is the first I’ve played as I’m generally not a fan of these types of loot based RPGs. With this being ‘free’ as part of the PlayStation collection I thought I’d give it a go, but there was very little I enjoyed here. The game's core loop of crafting appropriate gear to be able to hunt down more difficult monsters is always going to be repetitive by its very nature, but if the gameplay is enjoyable enough this need not be any issue. Unfortunately however the combat is just as repetitive and, regardless of the monster you’ve been tasked to kill, you’ll spend an age hacking away until it runs and you have to chase it before hacking away again. Patience rather than skill seems to be all that is required...

Of course, games like this are all about teaming up with other people, but Monster Hunter World is a let down in this regard as well. Having required the use of a guide to finally work out how to team up with a family member, we were still unable to play any of the story missions together because (for some inexplicable reason) you can’t join each others game until you’ve started a mission and watched any associated cut scenes! After this you can quit and restart the mission with other people, but it’s so time consuming I couldn’t be bothered to do it most of the time.

When all is said and done I realise this simply isn’t the sort of game I enjoy, but based on this evidence, that won’t change any time soon.

The next area is beautiful, the coral area is very visually stunning, but actually getting around in it is annoying, just a bunch of loops, and by that time the MMO style has gotten to you. By this time I was getting mad that my weapon was better than even other ones I was upgrading a lot, and it turns out it's a special sword given to new players, along with your armor, that completely ruins the progression of leveling up your gear that the entire game is built on, who made this mind numbing decision really **** up! Thanks for the continuous update. But the more you progress, the more tired you get. I am not satisfied with the play that demands high control rather than the fun of destroying the enemy into the environment.

After playing 1300 hours and getting 100% ( platinum trophy). I can definitely say this is one of the best capcom games I have ever invested in. This game is definitely worth 60$ for tons of content it offers and it's very enjoyable with friends too.

It's overly long at times, and that's the biggest problem. I encountered so many enemies that where not fun to fight and so many enemies that kept running away. The combat is also pretty average. This game was promising, but I got bored of it quickly.

All the way from the Playstation 2, PSP, PS3, WII, PC (Frontier) WII-U, 3DS to the Switch and Playstation 4 and my PC again. It's been a very long journey, playing every last game, importing and region breaking all of my systems to play the Japan exclusives, even teaching myself minor hiragana in order to play the games. It's been with me most of my life.

One of the main things I've always had was the isolation, especially in the PSP days, it was such a niche title in the West most people didn't know of it and those who did tried it once and never again.
This is some thing World has tackled face first and I must say. They did FANTASTIC in this area, making it easier to learn and focusing on the west I absolutely adore the new community that's spawned from it! And playing through and completing it myself I can easily say gameplay wise this is the most refined in the entire series.... Unfortunately more so than the new title Rise. Though It's due to the controls for the Switch, I will love it so I'm not worried.

The only issue I have with this game in particular is they catered... Maybe just a little too much to new players... So much that playing this game all the way to Alatreon and Fatalis for a seasoned veteran was.... Incredibly easy to breeze through.. Aside from that I love it.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The Metacritic must-play is definitely well earned for this game regardless of the platform be it Ps4, Xbox, Pc, and Ps5 & Xbox series X as of writing this review.
It has an amazing story albeit a story that some may not even notice at first but is rather interesting non the less, the story is rather basic when you read into it.

You're a hunter travelling from their homeland to a new and amazing location filled with new creatures, landscapes, flora and fauna.
However said new location is in danger and you're required to help save it from a huge volcano sized monster called "Zora Magdaros" who is venturing to the new world due to a rather unknown phenomenon called "The Elder Crossing" and is looking for its final resting place, this is only a small snippet of the full story but it's an amazing way to draw those who are interested in the story.

The story is not the only thing to like about this game, there is also a massive roster of large monsters, from the relatively easy "Great Jagras" to the amazingly powerful final challenge "Fatalis" there are many types of monsters you can saly and/or capture (yes you can capture monsters but not in the way of "Pokemon").

Just like the monsters, there is a large selection of weapons and armour made out of the very monsters you hunt threw out your time in the new world, each with various different skills and perks, want to boost your damage? then equip armour that has skills that boost your overall damage and ones the boost how often you deal high amounts of damage
Want to decrease your stamina consumption? equip skills that reduce your stamina while running/dodging and/or skills that reduce the amount used up by attacking.

Want to use a weapon that can knock monsters down on the ground? use a hammer!

Want to use a weapon that's superior at range with different ammo types? use a bowgun! (a bowgun is a type of gun in the Monster Hunter universe).

Want to use a weapon that's fast and nimble? use the dual blades or longsword!

Want to use a weapon that does a high amount of damage per hit? use the greatsword!

There is no limit as to what play-style you want to use threw out your time playing.

There is so much to learn and enjoy from this game that I can't recommend it enough to those who are interested in playing this game, and in that case, if you're considering on buying it I'd say "go for it" you won't regret it.

I wasn't able to complete the game, but played a few hours and the first few missions before I decided that this wasn't the game for me.

The basics of the story are that you and a load of other hunters are coming to an island to research monsters. There's no notable characters to speak of - everyone you deal with has virtually no background and seem like nameless hunters after a while. After several missions of just hunting monsters in the same map for the sake of hunting monsters, I determined that this is more of an online cooperative monster hunting game than an RPG.

So then we have the combat. I've played the God Eater games, which were supposedly inspired by Monster Hunter games, and the combat in those is bad. I incorrectly assumed that the real Monster Hunter would have significantly better combat (at the levels of Tera, at least).

Combat is sloppy. The main strategy is to keep hitting the monster with whatever attack you have from whichever direction it isn't attacking in. Monsters are slightly more reactive to you than in the God Eater games, though they're still generally nonreactive. They seem like they're attacking randomly or have incredibly slow reflexes, so it's too easy to avoid their attacks. They should just go right for you, but they don't. The battles are long and boring too, with some taking 15 minutes or more, including chasing them when they decide to run away.

Things could get better later on, but with other games to play, and its poor performance on my PS4 pro (it's not a smooth gameplay experience), I decided to put this one down.

But if you don't need a story, don't need an interesting combat system, like tracking and hunting monsters, or like to kill monsters cooperatively online, then this might be the game for you.

Bought as a Multiplayer game, but despite its promise of battling big Monsters with friends, this is barely a multiplayer game at all. You can only join quests with others providing you've already done them in single player, do you basically have to finish the entire 80 story solo to enjoy this game. It's easily the most being single player experience I've ever had. Terrible game.

Mas no geral é um jogo que mexe com cada um, recomendo que experimentem.

The amount of time and effort Capcom put into World and Iceborne is obvious and is greatly appreciated. Out of the now 60 monsters present there are 2 that I can say I actively dislike. The other 58 are all great additions to the series and I hope to see them return in the future. The progression is smooth and easy and is always rewarding. The difficulty is right where it needs to be for both entry level hunters and veterans alike. After going back since starting and trying the old world style I can say that the quality of life improvements alone make the game worth its weight in gold. Each weapon feels unique and great to use. If any of the 14 were the only weapon available I’d still play just as much as I do now. I beg anyone that hasn’t played yet to pick it up and give it a try, I promise you won’t be disappointed. If you want to know, just go check out an old title. Anyway this game sells console, the only reason I never owned a PS Vita was because of this game, the only reason I was forced to buy a 3DS was because of this game and I will be a stereotypical guy for saying this, that I practically bought PS4 only because of this game. And my next console will be the one where the next Monster Hunter fan base will congregate the most as usual. BTW you have to play at least 500 hours to be eligible to write a review for this game, I am like 3300+ hours and continuing. But there is a big challenge to the entry, you have to commit to it, learn this game, play it with passion and love. Oh and the developers of this game, probably the most generous bunch of people in the World (Pun intended). keep adding tons and tons of content for FREE. All the DLCs are pure cosmetic, you don't have to buy ANYTHING other than the game to win, this is NOT a pay to win game. Yet so many people buy those unnecessary aesthetic stuffs just to express their appreciation and affection towards the game. Enough rambling, I am biased towards Monster Hunter and I don't want to hide it. Expand

Graphics look good and the world itself. If you like grinding and the idea of hunting and this is for you. IMO combat is too repetitive and you're just farming for materials all the time. Armor and weapons are super clunky but I guess that was the theme, huge weapons. The progression seems like only your equipment, which could be realistic in a way. I have not played any previous Monster Hunter game ever... let me describe how this game appears to fresh eyes. Overall, there are two main issues with the game. It lacks the polish and accessibility of Western titles, and a lot of it is very poorly translated from the original Japanese.

For example, in game hints are referred to as "tutorials". To actually play the game, you have to find a menu item called "post mission"... is that "post" meaning "after" or "post" as in what you do with a letter? Why not "start mission" or "choose mission"? In the hub world, there are characters with an icon over their head, which indicates you can talk to them... but at what distance? There's no pop-up prompt to "speak", so you have to get to what seems like talking distance.

I managed to start a mission, but again it was extremely confusing, as my companion character would just stop and wait, not responding to any attempts to speak to him. I pretty quickly figured out that I have to walk forward and encounter the monsters myself. But then before I'd finished the second wave of monsters in the first mission, my companion congratulated me and some victory music started playing.

Online co-op multiplayer is extremely fiddly to set up, and you may have to endure a few rounds of being kicked from your friend's quest before getting through. Once it was working, it was quite hilarious, perhaps unintentionally so, as we clip our swords through dinosaurs spouting purple liquid for a few minutes, and then it's all over. You're treated to a screen from which you can select a bunch of icons, and then you're back in the hub world with prompts asking you to complete things that I suppose must be for single player?. Anyway, rinse and repeat. There's no story to speak of.

The graphics are pretty weak for a PS4 game - many of the ground textures are quite pixellated up close and the characters are poorly animated and frequently clip through the animals you're battling. Your own character is rather awkward to control, with some bizarre button assignments, such as triangle to draw your weapon but also to reload it, with R1 to stash your weapon again. ... or circle to pick up stuff but also fire a flare of some sort. The HUD layout is also a confusing mess.

The character lip-sync is... well, there isn't any. This may be because they're lip-punched to the original Japanese, but the effect is quite immersion breaking if you're playing in English. Also, only a small proportion of the dialogue is there in audio format... so there's reading... lots of reading.

I feel like this is a game designed for extremely forgiving fans, rather than newcomers to the franchise. I found it a confusing mess compared to any other online multiplayer of any genre.

if you're into this kind of MMORPG it can't get any better, playing with friends is fun, helping SOS call makes you feel like a hero, calling for help with SOS will... well help you progress on most challenging situation, a **** of content, fashion, palicos, every monster

Honestly, if the Low and High Rank portions wasn’t as polished and an incredible experience to go through. This score would be 7/8 margin just because compared to previous games, the rotating event quests, RNG investigations for RNG loot, reduced weapon and quest pool, and less challenging solo player end game. But, with the incredibly constructed world, incredible combat experience, and cohesive experience, the downpoints are more just demands for more content.

I won't rehash the problems I had with World simply because they make me profoundly sad. I wanted to like the game, I hoped the new direction would bring the series to a new level, but instead, the whole thing blew up in my face like a Marshmallow Peep left in the microwave too long.

Moving to real consoles has paid off for Monster Hunter. The fifth installment is bigger, nicer and funnier (a bit). In addition, a number of free addons will extend the entertainment for another dozens of hours. [Issue#283]
