Much better than PS4 Gundam Versus. This is long awaited fan demanded VS game that's been popular in arcade.

Definitely recommended, balanced, it has all kinds of Mobile Suits and Gundams included.

Just a matter of looking for a Gundam that suits you best and you're well on your way! One thing that I have to give the rating a 9 and not a solid 10. There's no tutorial mode in this game! Why?! Don't know, but the best way to get some work in. Do free battles, or work on some single-player battles. Understand the button layout and your Gundam you want to stick with. Other than that! The only downside is the lack of game modes, but the variety of Mobile Suits to choose from as well as the customization options make up for this fact. It's not a game that thrives on depth, but it more than makes up for it through its breadth.

All in all, I'd recommend this game for any Gundam fan and for any Arena Fighter fan, and if you're a fan of both, then this is an absolute must buy.

It really hurts to give this rating, after the disaster that was Gundam Versus, and the marketing for this game, I had high hopes. So lets get the good out of the way first. So lets get the good out of the way first. It has a huge choice of mobile suits, and some that have never been in a game before (especially for the US), for me all I ever wanted was my 00 Qan[T], and this game has 2 versions of it. The other good part, at least over GV (Gundam Versus) is the Maxiboost missions. There is actually single player content in this game and you actually get all the mobile suits in the game and dont have to pay $5 per suit like GV (Why people thought that was ok, I have no idea.). The sound track is also decent.

Now to see if I can sum up all the issues in a short, precise way. So I guess lets start off with what I can only describe as the "feel". You can tell this was meant for arcades, because theres a lot of colors and flashing going on and its not as good as it sounds. It sort of cheapens the experience and makes the game after the first couple games, shallow. That kind of bears out too, because as much as I disliked GV, the combat is missing something. The graphics are a bit arcadey too, GV had better graphics, this looks like a last gen title (at this point 2 gens ago) and I feel like they try to over compensate for that with the flashiness. I will also add just like the last game no English dub either, feels lazy.

Next problem the AI, I have seen some others talk about this too, and it really does ruin the game. If theres one issue that ruins the game, this is it. On the easier difficulties its like too easy, where its not a challenge. Once the difficulty gets past a median point, it just goes from 0 - 100. AI wont take damage even from clear hits, will kill you in 1 combo sometimes even 1 hit (supposed to be impossible), get infinite boost when they feel like it, their shots will sometimes track you to a ridiculous extent thats down right impossible (beams, rockets, allied help, and other attacks will seriously do a 180 to hit you) , infinite ammo, and much much more BS. 1 piece of BS that needs special attention here is the melees. Their melee combos, for some reason they can keep up forever, even hitting you on the ground (your supposed to be invulnerable when your down, it works for AI); but with your combos you will get a few hits in and they go invulnerable. Thats if you can even hit them, because the tracking on melees is the worst I have even seen for the player. It is hard to continue a combo even while the opponent cant move. Not to mention the AI will have infinite boost and dodges so they just dodge non stop and will reverse your melees on you. They also have infinite block as well, thats not a huge deal though because they dont take damage when they dont feel like it anyways.

Another problem is the targeting system/game design. Example: In GV if you and your partner were in a 2v2 (or 2v?) through positioning and commanding your partner you could basically make it 2 1v1s. In this game that is not going to happen. There is only 1 way you can play this game, and that alone really destroys the experience. Maybe I should have put this at the top (lol), but basically what happens is your partner sometimes will help you but its usually a 2v1 (you vs both AIs). This another reason melees cant be used in this game, when you go to melee 1 AI, the other just shoots you in the back, constantly. Remember what I said about the ridiculous tracking the AI can do? Yea even if you think, "I can melee, im moving fast they cant hit me". Boy you will quickly find out how wrong you are. Also not to make this longer, but the targeting system never works right, especially when your dealing with more than 2 enemies. Without fail, when you hit the switch target button it will switch to the target that is far away and not a threat, while the guy rushing you the targeting system will skip over.

I really cant stress enough how bad the AI is in this game. This is what will make you throw your controller through your television screen. Theres a lot of other small issues (by that I mean BS) the AI commits against the player to add up to a terrible experience, but this would be many pages long, and I highlighted the major problems. I am pretty upset by this game, I actually bought it, and had high hopes for it. Best thing you can do is not buy it, not worth the time, money, and frustration. Sorry Gundam Fans.

+ Complex mechanics, it´s not a simple button masher boring as many anime games like Jump Force. You will be punished if you button mash and you have to learn many maneuvers and know the skills of your Gundam and your enemy.
+ Local coop and local vs via split screen. It anoys me very much when companies release games that only have multiplayer online and not local. Many times I decided not to buy a racing game, or a FPS just because this issue, I lke to play with my friends and family local, online is not as fun and fortunately, this Gundam MBON let me play with another player locally.
+ Always runs at smooth 60 frames per second
+ 12.63GB file size (most recent version 1.11)

    - It can be a little bit frustrating at the beginning if you have never played Gundam Extreme games.
    - The graphics are not impressive. The Gundams looks amazing but the enviroments look simple, but its not an issue.
    - Online looks dead. I tried several times to find oponents and couldn´t find any.
    - There´s no physical version of this game in America or Europe, only in Asia, so if you want to play it you will have to buy it digital or import it from Asia.
    - You can´t record gameplay using the share button, at least it lets you take screenshots. The reason of not being able of recording gameplay is probably because the game has copyrighted songs from the anime series, and of course the music you sill import in the game probably has copyrights...who knows.

    Gameplay:
It amazes me how this game has so much content. Gundam Extreme games are not new, Bandai has been doing versions of this games over and over and this Gundam VS MBON is the result of those improvements from about 10 years with the different versions, just like Street Fighter II and it´s different iterations.
It blows my mind how this game can be so deep, like Tekken or Guilty Gear in it´s own style. Each Gundam has a lot of attacks, 2 melee, 2 ranged, secondary ranged, different sets od dash, charged version of attacks (depending on your Gundam), variations of melee atacks because your Gundam does different melee attacks depending on the direction when you attack. My conclusion is that if you want to play this game you have to do a liitle research and study of the mobile suit you like to use, it´s advantages, disadvantages and combos.

    The game modes:

    Against CPU:
Branch Battle: Battle your way across a branching of battle scenes, arranged by difficulty. Cand be played solo, local and online co-op.

Maxi Boost Missions: Use upgrade data to challenge various missions. Solo play only.

    Online Modes:
Player Match, Ranked Match, Casual MNatch, Player Match Arena, PS4 Tournaments

Free Mode: Practice mode, can be played solo or with another player.

As you see, there is no story mode and this can be good because the game focuses on the things that it does good. I played some anime based games attempt to implement a story mode which had failed miserably, like Dragon Ball FighterZ, Captain Tsubasa, J-Stars Victory, Jump Force, etc. With so many Gundams from so many different series an attempt to create a story mode probably would have failed. So we a game that focuses on what is good, combat, combat and combat.

This game has multiple local co-op and local versus modes as well as a LAN feature that lets you play with up to 4 people in a local offline lobby. This game was already amazing but the addition of new content, updates including WiFi indicators and a better lobby system have forced me to give this game a perfect score.

"Ahem-1 Hp remaining-Ahem". This review will be based more on the PvP side of the game so I won't be mentioning much of the single-player content.

The gameplay is easy to understand but extremely hard to master, mainly positioning, resource management and cost order. The game's main modes of attack are projectiles, gerobi (basically mega particle beam attacks), funnels/bits and melee, with projectile attacks being the safest but dealing less damage compared to the risky melee attacks which for some units can deal up to 300 damage. The burst mechanic which is filled by dealing or taking damage has 3 choices which are Fighting Burst, higher boost refill, high increase in mobility. high damage modifier to melee attacks, Shooting Burst, medium boost refill, a slight increase in mobility, high damage modifier to ranged attack, and lastly, Extend Burst, allows to bounce out of combo at half burst at the drawback of eating half of your current available burst, damage reduction modifier, slight increase to mobility. This mechanic game-changer during a match a good burst can flip the tides in your favour, on the other hand, a bad burst can guarantee your defeat. Boasting a roster of 183 playable units from multiple Gundam anime series and manga from the original series like the RX-78-2 and Zeong to Iron Blooded Orphans like Gundam Barbatos and Gusion Rebake Full City to even some manga only units like Ex-S and Avalanche Exia, most units have their own playstyle with only a few that are similar to each other which are mostly lower-cost clone units. The unit's costs are divided into 4 costs, 3000 cost, 2500 cost, 2000 cost and 1500 cost. Don't let the cost number fool you, it is very much possible for a 1500 cost unit to deal massive damage to a 3000 cost unit. Many of the movesets are referenced from the anime but, VSTG Project has done an amazing job making them very much usable and fun to execute in a match. My personal favourite units are OO Raiser, OO Qan[T] Full Saber, Gundam Exia and Gundam Cherudim. With the first 3 having high mobility and damage to push the opponent and the last unit having great support capabilities but what they all have in common is the fact that they're from Gundam OO (Yea pick my units by my favourite Gundam Universe).

But, the game's one major problem that could very much put people off the game is the internet connection. With a bad internet connection, the game will lag both sides causing the game to pause at random intervals and delayed controls, which is something you do not want in a fast-paced arena fighting game. The best way to solve this is by connecting a Lan cable between your router and Playstation. Another thing to keep in mind is the game's extremely competitive nature, this isn't exactly a bad thing but most of the people who play this game has played the previous titles or understand the fundamentals and advanced techniques of the game enough to absolutely destroy a newer player. Although playing in actual matches is technically the best and fastest way to develop your fundamentals, this isn't the best way to do it considering that your partner probably isn't having so much of a great time. So this is where the single-player content comes in, the single-player content is the best place to practice new units and practice fundamentals for newer players since the AI for the opponent is usually good enough to be a genuine threat to new-mid level players.

Overall, Gundam Extreme Vs. Maxiboost On is definitely a great game to pick up and play for those who want to experience a unique arena fighting game or are just a general fan of the Gundam franchise. It is really ashamed that the game is only available on Playstation because if this game is released on more platforms, I believe that the player base for this franchise will definitely grow.

Mobile Suit Gundam Extreme VS. Maxiboost ON is the ultimate Gundam Versus experience on consoles. The series' steep learning curve remains, but once you've broken through that initial barrier, there's a massive amount of metal-mashing fun to be found. As both a comprehensive gameplay package, and as a celebration of all things Gundam, it's very, very hard to fault.
