It takes just over four hours to fall in love with Minute of Islands, an indie adventure that plays with the user's expectations, attracting him with his boyish graphic mantle into a corrupt, exhausted insular world, with an uncertain past history, as indeed it is. the nature of the characters who act within it is uncertain.

Minutes of Islands is truly an impressive game, both visually and narratively. While its slow-burn nature might deter some players from experiencing what it has to offer, it's hard not to admit that it does what it does well.

Although Minute of Islands is a game about someone who must save the world from toxic spores, it felt genuine and relatable. The way it handles themes such as anxiety and trauma is incredibly well done and thought-provoking. Though the gameplay can be a bit slow at times, it was worth getting through it just to experience Mo's journey.

The overall effect is pretty strong. The lovely presentation pairs nicely with the melancholic story, and you're left with a short but atmospheric and intriguing adventure.

Admittedly, it all leads to a well-foreshadowed resolution focusing on her troubled understanding of the verb “living”, yet thanks to the appropriately-intense focus on introspection, I can report that Minute of Islands manages a symbolic triumph at the end. It’s succinct in the exploration of its central themes, and impactful when arriving to its point.

Unfortunately, the attempt to touch on darker themes is also rather ham-fisted, but the concept of exploring the mental effects of being the chosen hero and pressures such a role entails is really intriguing. All in all, Minute Of Islands is promising but a bit muddled. [Issue#3, p.135]

If you enjoy simple, calming platformers, Minute of Islands should be right up your street as Mario it is not. What it does, it does well, but in trying to be deep and meaningful it all feels a little bit short and shallow. Gorgeous to look at and quick to play, this is maybe one for the art critics and those who like their games with something to say – even if I missed what exactly that was.

I really wanted to like this game. I had been keeping an eye on it since it was announced and bought it as soon as it was available. I loveI really wanted to like this game. I had been keeping an eye on it since it was announced and bought it as soon as it was available. I love the art style and colours, the music is good and the narration is pleasant to listen to. The main problem is that game CONSTANTLY takes control away from the player. Literally every 30 seconds. Stop to read some dialogue. Stop to listen to some narration. Stop for a tiny pointless cut scene. Stop to pan across the screen a couple of inches. You cannot walk more than a few steps anywhere without the game taking your control away. As you can imagine this gets tedious and very irritating extremely quickly! I gave up in the end due to this annoyance, and to be honest i'm unlikely to bother going back to it. When you make a game that has limited gameplay mechanics as it is ,leaving you with story and exploration, but then take away the one of those, the exploration then you're left with very little to enjoy.
