    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Please do not buy this game if you enjoy progressing yourself through a championship or playing with a friend/family member at home. This game has been designed exclusively with online play in mind. I preordered this as I LOVED! micro machines on my Sega. Making your way through a long and varied championship, driving along long laps was a blast. There is absolutely no single player championship option in this game. The laps themselves are so abysmally short (some take around 10 seconds to complete) that its like running a 400 meter race around a 40 meter track, round and round with no variety. No split screen on offer either so you are limited to a bland max 4-player elimination mode. This is a wait for the special $5 bargain bin game, please do not pay full price to play this with yourself or friends. I believe code masters could have been a lot more upfront about the lack of basic features in this game. I emailed them my concerned to which I received the following reply: "Thank you for your comments. We are sorry that you do not like the game, however a single player championship was never advertised as a feature of the game. Micro Machines works best as a multiplayer game, which is where we placed the emphasis in development."

    In short, if I can persuade one person who like I am was a huge fan of old micro machines games, to stay away from this title, at least some of my bitter disappointment will be eased    … Expand

    Very short on game modes and content, the absence of a career mode is a serious oversight and a huge move backwards from PS1’s V3.

    Graphically adept but doesn’t seem to have the colourful flourishes we saw in trailers whilst the sound is fun and music is chirpy. The major issue here is that it’s played mostly online and with a game like this that could shorten the gameplay experience    Very short on game modes and content, the absence of a career mode is a serious oversight and a huge move backwards from PS1’s V3.

    Online multiplayer focused and no single player campaign or similar, makes this one to avoid, even considering the low price. Graphics are decent enough but only running at a slightly stuttery 30fps, lazy!
    Codemasters failed at making MM relevant again.

    HUGE disappointment, I was a massive fan of the original games in the 90's but this is terrible, no single player mode to speak of and runs at a pathetic 30 fps even on PS4 Pro, no excuse for this at all when games like Wipeout Omega and project Cars manages 60 fps.

    If you are considering this game for a nostalgia hit I suggest just buy a Sega Megadrive on ebay or something, MMWS is barely anything more than an overpriced commercial for Nerf products.

    The old original classic Micro Machines 2 (Turbo Tournament) is by far widely regarded as the best Micro Machines game ever made and there are numerous reasons for that.

    Weapons did not exist in the original games as far as I recall so they should not be in this game but they are and they CANNOT BE TURNED OFF, You no longer race against the same cars in different colours instead you get a meager selection of just 12 vehicles to choose from (Granted some of them look different but they are skins that you get from loot boxes (Something else the original games did not have)

    I could go on and keep emphasizing just how far removed MMWS is from the core gameplay character of the classic games but I think I have laid out enough reasons to not buy this game already, If you need any more reasons I would suggest watching gameplay from older Micro Machines games and also gameplay of MMWS and see how much useless stuff they have added that rather than improving the formula actually ruins the franchise.

    Final thoughts: Too Expensive, Extremely lacking in content, Overbearing product placement, Not a true Micro Machines game at all.    … Expand

    This game isn't what you expect as a micro machines game...The mobile game is much more fun and free then this one where you have to pay for.... It's all about on-line gaming, no single player content and really it's missing the clue and spirit what was making this series of games so great. Normally Codemasters stands for quality racing games but this time they didn't succeed.     I was really looking forward to MMWS, in fact I preordered the game on both the PS4 and XBox One. Unfortunately, Codemasters completely bungled the design of the game, making it effectively online-only with almost no single player content. I am returning both copies and will never get the game again, total disappointment. Hopefully Codemasters will learn a hard lesson from the failure ofI was really looking forward to MMWS, in fact I preordered the game on both the PS4 and XBox One. Unfortunately, Codemasters completely bungled the design of the game, making it effectively online-only with almost no single player content. I am returning both copies and will never get the game again, total disappointment.     Something of a letdown, but most of the criticism seems a bit harsh. The "solo career mode" in this game is the hunt for the platinum trophy. This is an online game and given the reviews and responses that online aspect may well soon dry up. What is then left? Might be worth getting on the cheap if they release some decent additional DLC soon.

    Micro Machines World Series is the pits. Never before have I seen a game with such a simple concept fail so spectacularly. Every level feels like the ice level thanks to the awful turning circle on the cars that make crashing into things an inevitability, rendering all modes completely unplayable. If I were you, I’d take this one back to the shop.

    A modern version of the classic Micro Machines. Unfortunately it suffers from a lack of depth in its design. The graphics are great, the maps are fun but lack the depth and length of some of its predecessors. The AI is frustratingly good, but the online system is buggy and slow to start games which is problematic. That said, it has a fun, competitive multiplayer functionality comparable toA modern version of the classic Micro Machines. Unfortunately it suffers from a lack of depth in its design. The graphics are great, the maps are fun but lack the depth and length of some of its predecessors. The AI is frustratingly good, but the online system is buggy and slow to start games which is problematic. That said, it has a fun, competitive multiplayer functionality comparable to that of the old 90's version but without the interest of a game that keeps you coming back for more.     While the presentation and gameplay are top notch, that hardly matters when literally everything else is so bare bones, that even games from 2-3 generations ago offer more to do and plenty more enjoyment than this.

    No local multiplayer racing, the whole point of this game was to play with your mates and throw popcorn when you loose, this money grab move to online-only multiplayer is ruining too many games. loved the original on the megadrive, just make that with better graphics and online support as well as local.     There is no offline, single-player content in this game. *Literally none.*

    Your options are to play online or to play local co-op battle mode. You cannot even race in local co-op; your only choice is battle mode.

    World Series tries to transplant hero shooters basics into a racer and kinda succeeds at that but as a whole is so bland that after an hour I was sure I will never play it again after I finish this review. [09/2017, p.75]

    It's at its very best when you play it with friends, and the tracks are as fun as ever, but the racing is hit or miss, and ultimately that's what you come for. Shame. [Sept 2017, p.90]
